How did Mr. Harris become an expert on the depth of Gov. Palins intellect? What specific knowledge does he have regarding her understanding of economics, management theory and practice, foreign affairs, finance, nuclear proliferation, Islamism or modern governance? What does he know about her reading habits, what publications she subscribes to, who she confers/consults with on a regular basis? Surely she could have read, over the course of 25 years of adulthood, what Mr. Obama read during his several years at an elite university. Mr. Harris has no idea what her knowledge is on any of those subjects or how ready she is to assume the Presidency. He assumes quickly that her intellect is shallow because she (you fill in the blank!!); wears flannel in the winter, does not believe in abortion, was not educated in the same way he was, is a woman, has a deep and abiding faith in God, is Republican or is a mother.

Though Harvard University was founded in 1636 neither Abraham Lincoln nor Harry Truman attended it and both served stellar careers as U.S. President. Mr. Truman was even a practicing Presbyterian. Intellectual elites Woodrow Wilson (Princeton alumnus) and Herbert Hoover (Stanford alumnus) were both widely considered failures as President.

Mr. Harris makes the point better than any conservative or ???regular??? person can. He thinks he is ???better than???, rather than ???different than??? people who are not like him. Mr. Obama, I believe, harbors similar sentiments. This is why Republican candidates have won 7 of the last 10 presidential contests.

No one not already once a president, comes into that office knowing much more about being president than any other self-convinced genius journalist or politician. What counts is not what you think you know before you walk into that office but what kind of character you bring with you once you are in. I trust McCain and Palin VASTLY more than Obama and Biden; on that count and so do most Americans. Count on this one as being a really close election.

This election is an IQ test for America. If we, as a people, lack the intelligence to see the irrationality of a McCain-Palin presidency, then we do not deserve to be in a position of world leadership, and we will be relived of that position very quickly.

This article is unfathomably slanderous about Governor Palin's religion. Mr. Harris uses quotes taken out of context, mixed with hearsay and utter fiction to invent tenet's of Governor Palins' beliefs that he has no basis to claim. I have no more insight into her faith than Mr. Harris, but neither would I profess to be an authority on her beliefs and how they would inform or instruct her actions as Vice President or President.
In addition, the resistance of voters to elitism is not because they look down on Ivy League education. It is becuase they do not want their lives dictated to them by the "chosen ones" who seek authority because they believe they are smarter and better than the populous, and therefore have the duty to run our lives for us. Sarah Palins' genuineness, authenticity, and small town values are attractive to voters because they show us that she is not governing out of arrogance or superiority, but becaue she shares our values and goals and is working to achieve them.
Lastly, I very much appreciate that someone in the position of President Bush has a stong faith not becuase it dictates his actions as if by divine intervention, as Mr. Harris suggests, but because he understands that he is accountable to a higher power. President Bush's faith and Sarah Palin's statement in Alaska indicate that they are eager to do what is moral and just and right by God, and not that they are somehow divining the course of world history from the Bible.

To suggest that people from rural states with religious convictions are somehow incapable of govern anything more than their own lives is to ignore our countries??? history. Abe Lincoln was a man from rural Illinois with deep religious convictions. He blamed the Civil War in his 2nd Inaugural Address on the wrath of God for the evils men had committed. Yet it was this same conviction to something greater them himself that caused him to take action and to succeed where so many others had failed. Are we so high and mighty to discount Lincoln???s ability and judgment in saving this union and setting right a country on the brink of failure? Teddy Roosevelt insisted it was his time spent in North Dakota, not New York City, that prepared him to be President. Don???t dismiss us as ignorant hicks, we grow you food, drill for your oil, and mine your coal. What has New York given us? A 700 billion dollar bill.

Having worked in two state legislatures, I have had the privilege of working with good public servants of both parties and I have seen examples of poor public servants in both parties. I have not worked in the Alaska legislature, but I have met Sarah Palin on several occasions and she is at the top of the list in politicians who I believe have entered politics for the right reason. Your comments on her faith are appalling and show complete disregard as to how Governor Palin has not used political office to impose her beliefs on the public.
Your generalizations in regard to Pentecostals are elementary and certainly not those of an elite journalist.
