Sam Harris' words should be written across the sky....oh; but, Palin supporters can't read!
Having read all of Sam Harris' books, I appreciate his enthusiasm despite bit of intellectual dishonesty. The "we want elitists" is a neat trick of purposefully misreading what "elitism" is as a worldview. However, Harris knows that it is a false comparison, and an easy hit. Shame on him for taking such low hanging fruit. Also, I look forward to Sam Harris' critique of Obama's readiness for the presidency since his is much more imminent than Palin's.
What a tunnel vision piece of garbage this article is. Obama has LESS experience than Palin, you bird-brained nincompoop. You don't mention that Palin is a governor, not a senator.
I guess you are pro-Arab because Obama sure is NOT BLACK at 6.25% Negro blood and 43.73% ARAB blood ( Nobody cares about the 50% Caucasion blood in Obama, least of all, Obama).
WHy do you think, looking at Obama Hussein Mohammed Obama and his father's side family names...they are ALL Arab. Even Kenya lists Obama's father, Arab-African. Going back in history Obama's father's line was involved in SLAVE TRADING and now Obama has all the blacks wanting to vote for him! OMG!
When and who is going to tell African-Americans that a vote for Obama is a vote for an Arab-Amercian?
Check the facts: Do a search: "Obama Arab-American"
or check the link to the investigator that discovered Obama's TRUE ancestry: http://kennethelamb.blogspot.com/2008/02/barak-obama-questions-about-ethnic.html
Don't blame me for telling the truth.
I've seen a lot of attacks here on the company Obama keeps, inlcuding his wife, his former pastor, etc. Anyone want to defend Sarah Palin's husband being a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, whose slogan is "Alaska First - Alaska Always" and whose stated goal is "... the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:
1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State."
Notice which one is last on the list. Oh yeah, in 2006 she addressed their convention, saying "Keep up the good work, and God bless you." Now, what good work would that be? This is the only thing they list under the "Goals" section of their website.
HockeyMom18? Harrisd? Anyone?
What I said earlier was if we are going to judge Palin solely by the people around her as is mentioned in this article by the company she keeps, Barack Obama should be held to the same standard. I personally am less afraid of Palin's friends than Obama's.
Well I'm simply terrified by Palin's stupidity. So you want a secessionist in the White House? I guess terrorism only matters when it's perpetuated by people who don't look like us?(Yeah, I'm white and I daresay I'm more American than you are, considering my family's been here since before there was a U.S.A.) Governor Fluffbucket has some questionable ties to right-wing religious extremists who hate America so much they no longer want to be a part of it. Hey, why don't you ask someone in Oklahoma City what it's like to be the victim of a homegrown terrorist attack?
How in the world does a hate-mongering, elitest, completely lack of logic writer gain a voice in a publication like this??? I'll take street smarts over graduate degrees any day of the week. Take it from someone who has a graduate degree--- they can be the stupidest people ever. I'll take someone who can think, get things done, perservere, and has the backbone to do the right thing regardless of the supposed "intellectual" debate over a smooth talking, educated with not-much-to-show-for-it candiated anyday.
And tell me again what are Obamas qualifications?,,,,How many times did he vote present instead of taking a stance?,,,
There is hope: Sarah Palin clearly does not speak for all women. Chances are her views are considered extreme and out of touch with the mainstream by the vast majority of American women. You wouldn't know it watching Fox News, though, would you?

Only when Palin actually answers a question from a reporter that's not scripted from R aids will we know if she can tout her as a solid pick. It's more than apparent that many have lost interest - the Rep's aren't confident enough to expose her real answers to the public (are we supposed to wait until she's in office to find out a glaring truth?)....maybe they're afraid that she will bumble positions/answers like McCain has over and over - there's no doubt, I'll stick with the folks who will answer questions and have plans to move forward.
If you change the name for Sarah Palin to George Bush, then this article would be about George Bush rather than Sarah Palin.
albert
Just for a moment let´s forget that these people are running for office. They are just normal folks that you meet at a party somewhere. They have no party affiliation. You have a nice long conversation with Obama and you have a nice long conversation with McCain. Which one would strike you as being more savvy, smarter, more up to date on the issues and most level headed? That´s the one you should vote for.
Obama campaign said to be lowering expectations in anticipation of Friday's debate. "Mr. Obama never expected the race to be this close and so he never prepared" said Mr. Kwansi Mifune an Obama aid today. "We expect Mr. McCain to do a lot better. McCain has a lot more at stake in the debate." Mr. Mifune added.
Whatever he said is lame. Obama knew how close this race would be. I did hear him tell a fib the other day. He said, "The American People are smart." and now I wonder. When so many people support a man who relies on lying and won't admit his past and he is a HUGE reason for the meltdown. And when he brings in a VP candidate based on how pretty she is, and thinks that we American women are so stupid that we'll just v ote for any female, it makes me wonder just what this nation will be like if not change happens. Can we really take any more? Enough is enough.
This article summarizes the perils of the Palin phenomenon better than I have yet read: "the joyful marriage of ignorance and confidence." Brilliant. That is exactly what the Republicans, and Palin especially, epitomize. America cannot and will not make the same mistake for the 3rd consecutive time by electing people to political power that are not intellectually engaged in the world around them.
VETERANS FOR OBAMA
RE: Comment: "You may agree with the content of the article, but it was inappropriate, poorly written partisan anger."
Well thank you, Bill O'Reilly (with your loofah sponge?)... or ... are you Sean Hannity (still unable to stand-up after drooling over Palin for an hour).
The fact is, seeing you have a Palin-sized education to go by, let me spell it out for you: Sam Harris' article was very well-written. Everyone I know will see a copy. Everyone you know won't see it, because you know it will make them think, and realize, "Hey, this guy is right."
Mr. Harris, thank you for restoring some measure of reason and logic to our political discourse, especially those of us who watch, like a terribly bad movie, what is considered today to be qualifications for the most powerful nation in the world. But then again, that will be the measure by which we will lose that position and other, more rigorous nations will take over -- and with good reason. Only in this country would religious fanatism and mediocrity make it all the way to our White House. My dead grandfather, a noble and wise soul, always said: Each nation has the government it deserves. And so it will be should McCain or Palin make it to the White House. What a sad state of affairs...
You might not like Palin, but there was very little reason or logic in this article
The beginning of the article was persuasive. The author lost me when he suddenly started attributing to Palin a large collection of fundamentalist beliefs, none of which we have evidence that she holds. At that point it was Harris who came across as the religious bigot.
This is one of the most well written articles I've read on the Palin debacle. Thank you Sam Harris and thank you Newsweek.
You may agree with the content of the article, but it was inappropriate, poorly written partisan anger
Wow. It is amazing to me that there are actually people in this country who even half-way believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be in The White House! You know who you are, and you know you believe that for one of three (3) reasons ... (and don't worry, many of you will claim to fit all 3, we're sure!).
Now, you Palin supporters concentrate real hard and tell us which one fits you best. Meanwhile, you Bush supporters run off and find someone to read these to you:
1) You would never, ever consider allowing a Black man, and an intelligent and politically superior Black man at that, to become President of the United States;
2) You like the way Sarah Palin looks and you think she is "just like you" because she has a pregnant teenage daughter, a lowlife husband, uses chummy phrases like "You guys..." , believes her own lies, shoots guns, throws the Bible in everyone's face, etc.;
or
3) You are as ignorant as she is, AND, just like her, you don't really care about the future of this country.
May I ask, whom among thee is blinking now?
McBlinky is blinking--just watch his interviews or speeches..it's like he's sending out some morse code to the yahoos out there.. Blink blink blink (translation--hey people.. did you guys notice barack was Black?- Blink blink blink (translation- you know he's intelligent also)
Would love a black president. Hillary would get my vote if she were black.
Welcome back Harley,
HEY SAM,
THE GIG IS UP FOR YOU AND THE ENTIRE MSM. WE KNOW YOUR DIRTY LITTLE SECRET. YOU???RE TRYING TO ELECT OBAMA.
YET, OBAMA HAS A HUGE AMOUNT OF PORK BARREL SPENDING ON HIS RECORD WHICH SHOWS A PROFOUND PROCLIVITY ON HIS PART TO SPEND TAXPAYER???S MONEY FOR UNNECESSARY THINGS. THINK TONY REZKO ON A NATIONAL SCALE.
AMERICA CAN???T AFFORD THE OBAMA-PELOSI-REID AGENDA.
BUT FOR NEWSWEEK THIS IS UNIMPORTANT. THEY WOULD RATHER RIP ON SARAH INSTEAD OF EXPOSE A CHICAGO POLITICIAN???S RATHER DUBIOUS RECORD. OBAMA???S RESUME/RECORD IS THE REAL DANGER TO THIS COUNTRY.
Good one. All wrong, but good.
I suppose that you are suggesting that Obama is the best for the job. I don't see a standout on either side, at least with McCain and Palin you know what your getting, I can't say that about the Democrats. I have been hearing rumors that Clinton may still be the Democratic Vise Presidential nominee?
No one knows what they want or who they are. All they do is lie.
