Unfortunately, McInsane is as much of a part of the good old boys' network as is anyone on Capitol Hill.
Unfortunately, McInsane is as much of a part of the good old boys' network as is anyone on Capitol Hill.
Obama managed to become a good old boy in Freddie and Fannie Mae. After only being a Senator for a few years he is the #2 recipient of bribes, oops I mean campaign contributions! He received $104,000 from those crooks who left that in shambles but didn't leave without taking their $100+ MILLION!
Harris - you have a COMPLETE misunderstanding of not only Gov. Palin, but of Christians who seek to steward their gifitings in the area of government. No one - and I mean NO one - I know in among evangelical circles (and I am a pastor) desires a Christian theocracy in America. This is a total straw-man argument.
This article is along the lines of Keith O's MSNBC footage trying to tie Gov. Palin in with some witch hunter in Africa. Ridiculous.
The true ignorance is with those whom are not willing to tolerate any other worldview except their God-exempt, pluralistic, humanist worldview. It is best summed up by the SC governor who proclaimed that Palin's best qualification for VP is that she has not had an abortion. But I guess desperate times create desperate quotes...
i loved this article finally someone with balls to stand up tp the palin blinded followers. if OBAMA[vote OBAMA08] doesent win presdiency and mccain wins hopefully palin is not vp. i heard something about biden backing out due to health problems coming up is that true? if so even though i cant stand the "bitch" hillary clinton she would be a nessasary vp choice.Go out and vote..... 1 last thing a comment to wyandotte shut the hell up with your bullshit religious feelings and untruths not everyone is christian...JR Mickel erie, pa

Such disrespect for other's opinion and Hillary. You mother would be proud. Wonder how you would feel if someone referred to her in such a manner. You don't even know Hillary yet you defile her name. Classy.
I believe the Biden thing is a rumor. Obama knows he screwed up by snubbing Hillary
Finally, an intelligent analysis of what Palin's philosophy (or lack of one) represents. But I can attest to how her beliefs conflict with her actions on a practical level. One would hope that a professed Christian of any stripe would not consider lying, naked ambition, and lawlessness to be virtues. Yet, in Alaska, we are watching her true values at work on the national scene with an appalled fascination. There's no guessing at what kind of leader she is anymore--she's laid it out clearly.
She promised us transparent government and accountability. Yet she has refused to cooperate with a legislative inquiry into alleged abuse of power--despite her assurances that she welcomed the inquiry and would cooperate. She is allowing her husband to ignore a lawful subpoena on the most laughable pretexts. She has allowed McCain's campaign to install itself as a de facto governor of Alaska, meaning that anyone who has questions for or business with the governor's office is automatically referred to the McCain campaign. She has allowed McCain's opratives to politicize this Troopergate inquiry into a standstill and then to laughably complain that it's those dang Democrats who have "tainted" the investigation. She either exaggerates her accomplishments here or flat out lies about them with such assurance that it's breathtaking. I'm not casting stones; I'm referring to documented incidents.
She knew better here than to allow her fundamentalist views to decide her political actions, and yet the second she accepted McCain's offer, she willingly allowed herself to display those tenets for political gain.
If she returns to Alaska (and for the sake of the country, she should, regrettably), I can almost guarantee she'll face a recall election. She is not the governor we elected (and fewer than half of the voters in that election did choose her). She is McCain's vain, cynical, and manipulative creation--but now we can see it more clearly. And thousands of Alaskans hope the rest of you will, too.
Your article is astonishing. Can you really have fallen that far over the edge? Let's just start with the simple comparison of the resumes of Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. Although we can agree that Obama has the more impressive educational background which should have given him every advantage, we find that he falls short on actual accomplishments. There is very little in the resume that shows he has done anything, either as a community organizer, State Senator, or during his short time in the U.S. Senate. For all his rhetoric, his elite schooling, his passport, his visits to Europe, his connections, he has nothing of significance to note. Sarah Palin, with the disadvantages of the average American (not attending an elitist school), not having a passport for most of her adult life, dealing on a daily basis with average American family problems, has a resume full of accomplishments as both a mayor and a governor. She has shown that she will work for the good of the people who support her...how can you discount an approval rating of over 75%? And, please, let us not forget that Palin is at the bottom of the ticket. McCain's resume, without question, shows a level of accomplishment that even an elitist would envy. You can only be blinded by your own elitism.
Obama had the most humble beginning of any of the candidates- with hard work not seen or exerted by most people in this country he got to where he is today- and yes he did go to an elite school- but he earned it- people keep calling him an elitist- and you say that like it is a bad thing- McCain is an elitist in the sense he lives (and spends) in an elite world that looks down on the majority of this country- Obama rose through the ranks, and fought for what he achieved- hes a senator, so that forces him into an elite company, the same one McCain stands in, but it does not make him an elitist. I find it disgusting and narcissistic of people in this country that they actually ridicule someone who has achieved and earned so much.
Obama WORKED to get where he is. McCain got to where he is because of his dad and priviledged connections. All other candidates got to where they were at because they WORKED on it, campaigning, raising money and personnel, making people believe in their cause, allowed to get drilled by the press, debated openly. Palin got to where she is now because of a PHONE CALL. And in every instance where she needs to test her abilities, she hides away. What does that tell you about her 'qualifications'? If McCain and Palin are elected, it sends a frightening message for Americans and the world: that you don't need to WORK to be successful, that leadership doesn't mean ACCOUNTABILITY, that exploitation for power is the true American way, and all of the institutions we've set up to make ourselves as better individuals and better citizens means nothing.
Obama did what?
McCain did what? Palin did what?
His resume shows he attempted to steal from America and had his wrist slapped, he lies all day every day, he hates women and he's very unimpressive with regard to the economy and foreign affairs - plus he does not have the aptitude to fix anything. Ms. Palin is completely useless in thought and action.
Great Reply Ask,
Hope your day is going well.
Easy there Dumplin, please take off the cap lock, if you are screaming OK go for it. I do agree with you on what it appears Obama wants. I say appears because it changes regularly, what I don't like is his telling me how to spend my hard earned money. He has clearly stated that he is going to tax me and if I don't like it his buddy Biden tells me I am not patriotic. Both my husband Vietnam and my son Iraq have fought for this country, love this country and believe we are the best, as a wife and mother I watched and tried to make ends meet. I love this country and I do understand where McCain/Palin are coming from. How would Obama know, he hasn't defended this country or it's people. We work hard for our money and I will give to whom and when I want. Why do I have to pay for those who don't go to school, don't work, don't support their children and don't require anything of themselves except collecting a check.
The mortgage crisis is in part to Billy Clinton deciding that those that did not own homes should have them at any expense. These were people who couldn't afford them or read the fine print, this is my fault? Go ahead Obama tax the crap out of us and see what happens, you are not going to like it, the economy as a whole will be in big trouble not just the housing section.
This article is right on. Ms. Palin simply has no national or international experience that would qualify her for the office of VP or President. As much as I despise Cheney, at least he has had the world experience to do things VPs do....such as sitting in a bunker, strategizing about how to prevent the next war, or how to start it. Cheney was in Azerbaijan 2 or 3 weeks ago trying to do just that. I wonder if Ms. Palin could have even pointed out where Azerbaijan was before named as McCain's running mate?
Has anyone seen Ms. Palin's answer in that unscripted "town hall" type meeting she had last week, concerning oil and coal? It was simply scary. It made no sense at all. Google "palin fungible molecules", and find the YouTube video of Wolf Blitzer talking about it. If this is the response an "expert" on energy gives, I'm scared to death what type of response she would give concerning whether or not she enters the nuclear codes.
Early this year, Ms. Palin was talking on air with an Alaskan radio talk show host who referred to another Alaskan politician, Lyda Green, as a "cancer" and a "bitch." Turns out, Ms. Green is a cancer survivor.
Palin just sat there and cackled, not saying anything. She should have said "now, that's going too far." Instead, a few days later, she replied that she was "caught off guard" with those talk show hosts (this is a lie, because they went on and one about Ms. Green, even referencing her weight).
Now, what's going to happen when the next international crisis takes places, and Ms. Palin is "caught off guard?" This simply is very frightening.
Again; Clinton, Carter, Bush and Reagan. All governors with no national or international qualifications.
Instead of getting your talking points from morons, think for yourself. Please address the issues that McCain and Obama put forth and discuss their value and validity. Pushing experience is going to lose the election for Obama.
Clinton, Carter, Bushes and Reagan - you're comparing them to Sarah Palin? Excuse me but what DRUGS are you taking? It's got to be some kind of hallucinatory or anti-deptressant.
These statesmen were primed from the dawn of their careers to be leaders - in whatever walk of life they chose. Some were primed to be politicans and one or two came that route via other careers. But all four of these, had YEARS of experience as politicians, had TRAVELED THE WORLD and, in Clinton's case, was actually a RHODES SCHOLAR who stuided at Oxford University in England, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious universitites ever.
Palin doesn't deserve one more bit of ink. She should be largely ignored. She's a nice woman, I'm sure, and I'm not personally against her as a governor of Alaska (but I wouldn't want her in Texa)..
Together with McCain, a doddering old man with a terrible temper, a former PPOW who may have even suffered longterm ;psychological fallout on top of his physical problems, the two are a national security threat.
She's not appropriate, she's not qualified, and she's not well educated or exposed enough to the world out there. Enough said.
Bringing up Clinton is not exactly a good thing. ???I did not have sex with that woman???. (On the other hand, I guess any of the other women he slept with). And this is an example of good character... I do not think so. Clinton is the perfect example of one who lacks moral character and key leadership skills.
One's character is key in leadership, for it is the culmination of a leader's experiences, education, and most importantly, their philosophy that will drive their decision-making.
Unfortunately, the other choice, Obama, is even worse. He has significant character flaws that should make one pause... and then vote the other way.
Ok, let's compare McCain's integrity to Obama's:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/personalities/barack-obama/
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/personalities/john-mccain/
As of right now, in terms of honesty, Obama leads with 41 statements of truth vs McCain's 25.
In terms of dishonesty, Obama has lied once while McCain has lied 6 times.
In terms of absolute dishonesty, McCain is 6 times more dishonest than Obama. So, if McCain is 6 times more likely to lie than Obama, and character is key to leadership, and Obama has made at least 50% more truthful statements than McCain, that means I should vote Obama as McCain has quantifiably less integrity.
I just saw / read two more lies from Obama within the last 24 hours.
At that rate, I think this poll is a little off.
An unsubstantiated claim by you with no reference to what the lies are, nor any research to confirm whether they are lies or not.
I'm sorry if I prefer actual "confirmed" lies that are researched and cited rather than someone blindly referencing them without citation or evidence.
But, if you want to play the game of possible lies that have not yet been substantiated, I'm sure McCain has plenty more that are not yet researched and cited. He has verifiably made more negative attacks against Obama through his ad campaigns. Further, his lies have been more blatant and transparent, which would indicate to me there are more that are as of yet undiscovered.
See, I can play the pretend game too. It's fun when you don't reference anything and operate completely on conjecture.
You misunderstand, I don't mind you questioning Palin's experience (or lack thereof), but to cut the question whole cloth from "no national experience" is a non-starter. Disqualification based upon her experience *because she is a governor* is ridiculous. Next, whom are we comparing Obama to? What national and international experience does he have that gives him merit as a valid candidate for President? Please don't say he's visited other countries, we all know that we're talking about international relations not vacationing or searching out your family's roots. Essentially, every president has advisors that are experts in the matters of foreign relations, I would hesitate to say that either candidate would take on some maroon to head up the state department.
The fact is, neither the far right nor the far left are willing to recognize that neither Palin nor Obama are ready for the job. We are screwed, regardless.
Read this if you are still in doubt about Sarah's experience:

You can learn something about a person by the company she keeps. In the churches where Palin has worshiped for decades," -- What a hypocritical statement here. We can judge Palin by her church but not Obama? What about the fact he went to a church which preached Anit-Americanism for over 20 years? No, no, no says the liberal media, this is not a reflection on Obama... Yet when it comes to Palin it is. What crap.
What
I agree Obama went to a church where his pastor would regularly say "GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!"
"US of KKK"
Yet people like lemmings blindly follow this DUMMY and believe anything out of his mouth. 95% of Democrats both female AND MALE want to have sex with him they are so hypnotized by his BS. LOL
TO ALL: Let's get out and vote. I'm a republican...I will make sure to go out and vote for McCain and Palin, do the same and we'll be way ahead at the end of this journey.
We can probably spend all day discussing what has happened in the past and who did it. What is important to me is what are we going to do from now. In this article by Sam Harris to me this is truly a wake-up call. McCain is partly showing us what is possible from the Religious Right and why its a bad idea. Or at least to really think about installing person(s) with this set of beliefs. The constitution outlines the need to be vigilent against this kind of leadership because it is mainly not inclusive of all. To me the constitution helps protect smaller groups from opression by the larger.
Things I look for is a new leader.
1. Knows the tennants of the fabric of our country backwards and forwards.
2. Knows the intent of why the Constitution, and later added Bill of Rights were written.
3. Is more inclusive on solutions and willing to communicate and compromise on issues..
4. Has insight into many different social fabricks of our country. Being more in tune with people.
5. Has insight into the world as a whole and willing to communicate and a knack for consensus.
6. Uses the military card as a last resort.
7. Doesn't divide people or problems into groups or thouht therefore creating division.
8. Has a solid logical mind for prioritization and solution but can use a gut feeling once in awhile.
9. Has both the highest form of education our country can offer but also have excellent common sense.
10. Has the foresight to be a stateman on the future without being in the back pocket of special interests.

McCain is a 100% fit.
I have to agree w/ Slimmie, McCaine is a better fit to the list than Obama. I have real concerns that Obama's early politcal training came at the knee of Black extreemests, that he's spent much of his life attending church w/ a minister who preaches racial divisivness (sp?, sorry, I am a lousy speller). .
Your spelling is the least of your problems. Slavery was extreme. Jim Crow was extreme. Poll taxes were extreme. Lynching was extreme.
Neither Obama nor his erstwhile pastor ever subjected any other human being to the violence to people of color that was real within their life times.
All Pastor Wright did is exercise his constitutional right to speak politically.
Words mean much. However, the sword in the case of African Americans has shed more blood then the pen.
You just described Hillary
Yes, I was a delegate...:>)

what a piece of crap journalism!!! you can say the same about Obama's ignorance as well. GO BACK TO SCHOOL and relearn the basic journalism
Of course it is not journalism it is an opinion piece you dolt
Many Americans have the same reservations about Obama's lack of experience but for different reasons. In responses to the article, the fact that Obama can claim that he sat in Rev. Wright???s church and that has no influence over his decisions and policies mutes the point of this article in regards to Palin.
Palin regularly attends a church where people handle snakes and speak in tongues (what century is this again?) I find this hard to overlook. She didn't have a passport until this year, how is she going to have any positive impact on world politics when she probably can't point out places like Warzistan, Mindanao, or Darfur on a map? The last thing this country, and the human race for that matter needs is an "Average American" sitting shotgun on the world stage. Oh, by average American I mean an overconfident, SUV driving, un-traveled, NASCAR watching, Snake Handling Jesus Freak. "Average Americans" are the main reason I am now an EXPAT.
You are ignorant! That statement is not true! The church to which Mrs. Palin belongs does not, nor has it ever endorsed snake handling and such foolishness! You're apparently an embecile who needs to do some research. The sure way to determine a fool is for him to open his mouth, in the case make a stupid comment! What a tool!
I felt it necessary to point out a few things the current administration has taught people in this country to believe about the Middle East that are completely untrue. Wake up, people! MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST DO NOT HATE US! They do not hate us because we are christians. They do not hate us because we have freedom. They just do not want us to take our money and military power and use them to tell others how to live their lives. On Sept 11, they attacked our symbols of financial and military strength. We have for many decades been trying to force our policies into places in the world that do not want our input. If we just stayed away and respected their ability to run their own land, they would not have felt the need to attack us. Don't be part of the ignorance of lumping all middle easterners into one category. It disrespects the memories of those who died on 9/11.
Remember, radical islamism is like the KKK to christianity. Give people respect, and maybe they will give it back. I have given up any hope that Palin understands the significance of cross-cultural understanding.
She would be like Amanijebad. He was an attractive ideologue from no where who appealed to many of the same underlying religious and nationalist forces within Iran. Unlike him she would not be just a figurehead, with real power vested in the coterie of Ayatollah's that control most of what goes on in Iraq.
You're right, presidents get elected for all kinds of weird reasons.
Let's see. Clinton got elected because people felt comfortable with the idea of having a beer with him.
Bush got elected because he convinced people that he would act based on his Christian faith (which we've seen was just a pandering statement to get votes).
People are willing to vote for Obama because he isn't Bush.
People are willing to vote for McCain because he isn't Obama.
But we also have to face that Fiorina was right. None of our four leading candidates are qualified to be a president. McCain and Biden have been around the longest -- but they've only got experience in committee, not any administrative background. Obama has only a fraction of their experience, and most of his experience has been that he learned how to vote "Present" instead of making a decision. Palin's woefully limited experience is actually the most extensive of the four candidates -- that's what we should really be scared of.
Obama has even less intellectual ability to lead than Palin, and HE is the one running for President. He has done nothing in his life of any importance and has no life experiences to speak of.
Them are some fighten words. Got some facts to back it up?
Are you a Dem shooting sarcasm?
I hope so...
If you're a Republican, you haven't been paying attention.
An idependants point of view: To tell you the truth I do not see the difference between the qualifiactions of Obama vs Palin. They both are lacking. They both have had gaffes, and the news media blows right past - Bush Doctrine for her, 58 states (59 if you split apart the 2 real states combined) by Obama. The biggest problem with with this is that Obama is the Democrates 'A' team - the Pres. Candidate. Meanwhile Palin is only the VP candidant (and you seldom even hear anything out of them, other than when some like Agnew or Gore get caught taking money - in Agnew's case he lost being VP, in Gore's they gave the $$ back to teh Chnese and said oops, but no foul).
So should we be having a similiar debate on whether Biden (Dem.s "B" team) is a greater candidate of change than McCain (Rep. "A' team)?
Sure why not compare Biden to McCain. I think that would be healthy so everyone goes into the next election with their eye open.
Sah-Sen
While I agree with the lack of "bankable" education, experience, and enlightenment, I think you do all of us harm to make so much of her religious beliefs. Many of our presidents, even going back to the founding fathers, have had weird religious ideas that did not fundamentally impact the country in the ways suggested in your piece. All of these issues are side issues. The more we make of them the more we play into "Rovian Politics". The one truth of the day is that Americia's other god, MONEY is getting funny. While we all may differ on the who what or where or "GOD", in American the god, money matters just about equally to all. The truth of things is that 8 years of Republican Executive, Judicial branches and 6 years or Republican Legislative branch control has proven the Neo-Con theology is heresy to the almighty dollar.
