Please explain to me how McCain is a better and safer choice for this country then Obama. PLEEAASE tell me.

This article should be about Obama. He is the one with no experience. Lack of experience is no big deal for Democrats and Liberals when it comes to their nominee. HELLO...Running one State (Governor of Alaska) is a smaller version of running 50 States. Obama does not have any experience in managing anything, except not being able to push any voting button in the Senate except "PRESENT." America needs a President that is more than PRESENT. Sam Harris of Newsweek, you're obviously a liberal. Try using this same scrutiny of reporting with Obama and you will surely put Obama out of the picture.

Shouldn't we be comparing Palin to Biden not Obama? Joe Biden is a fraud, check out his last run for president. Biden runs off at the mouth whenever he is backing into a corner, is this what you want running our country if Obama can not serve his full term? John McCain has by far more experience than Barack Obama in very difficult situations. Barack Obama has made his living on the backs of the taxpayers with nothing to show for it. Teddy Kennedy the hit and run murder is one of his mentors, how did the Kennedy's make their money? Booze illegal Booze. Troopergate is nothing compared to some of Biden and Obama's buddies. Let's check them all out, line them up and give the American people a real look. If Palin is going to be judged solely by the company she keeps then lets do it for all of them.

WHY on earth is this article headlined "When atheists attack"? This point of view has nothing to do with atheism--I am a mainstream god-fearing Jew married to a mainstream god-fearing Catholic, and we agree with every word of Harris' article. What is Newsweek trying to accomplish by this sensationalism?

you seem to gorget that George Washington consulted God on a daily and "Extremist" way, Abraham Lincoln prayed every day. i believe that you should take a look at past presidents and not only point to george bush. we have traditionally had leaders who were devout in their faith. i would say that most still did a good job. you would be rather naive mr. harris to beleive that because she is devout in her faith that she can not do a good job, and this is why you and your liberal buddies in journalism will lose this election for obama, you insult the majority of americans by putting religion down in such a way.

It does not matter if we were a "christian nation" or not. We have people of all religious beliefs as well as no beliefs here in this country that all deserve respect. Therefore, it is wrong for a politician like Palin to want to impose her beliefs onto everyone else. Her wanting abortion illigal is like a Muslin taking office and forcing everyone to wear burqas. You can't make everyone follow your religious views! If you want to be pro-life and not have an abortion that's your choice, but you should not take that choice away from others.

Also, all experience aside...who do you think is better equiped to turn this country around? Obama wants to make this country a better place. McCain wants to please his party. The same party that got us into this mess. I used to like McCain before he gave in to his party.

I don't know how anyone can even call Obama and elitist (meaning: snob). He worked for everything he has. He was an average boy who worked hard, got educated and provides for his family. McCain married a rich woman and never had to work for anything. McCain is more of a snob than Obama ever will be.

What are the issues of most women? Again, major generalities. Get specific what about Palin and women's issues do you not agree with and why? Also, she never denied science. Her father was a science teacher and she beleives that evolution should be taught. However, she believes in creation. How do you know she is short sided, you can not even answer the question if she supports other forms of energy?

First things first, if you're going to sit there and pretend that you have never felt any kind of a higher power whether you call it God, Allah, Gaia, or Mother Nature then nobody needs to listen to you because you're obviously a liar. Secondly , who are you to tell people what they should beleive in? Thirdly, your obviously a hard-core democrat who doesnt even has the insight or the spiritual enlightment to even seek out the truth about the issues. I'm not a republican by the way and personally I don't like either choice we have. Obama is no better, he's been a community organizer before...... But what else has he done? He's helped pass two laws, one of which lets sex education be taught to kids as early as kindergarten. He has no executive experience at all. His running mate Biden has no executive experience at all. Are you so blinded with hate because they beleive in God that you can't even see this? It's proposterus for you to even write this article... Also I do have one question for you, During sex who does an atheist cry out to? Oh God! What do Sam Harris' religious views, or lack thereof, have anything to do with what he said in this piece?
This is dreadful editorialising an otherwise excellent,well thought-out piece of writing.

What unmitigated rubbish. I am quite sure I could drool on my pillow a more coherent column on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The attempt to compare the skills required for political office with that of a pilot or a brain surgeon is something I wouldn't expect from a high school sophmore composition.

What vitriol from the scared leftist elitists!!! I guess that since we can tell a lot about a person from the company he keeps, Obama is a radical muslim who would spew racist hatred from apulpit if given the chance...oh, right we aren't supposed to judge him by the company he keeps right? Although, he did divorce himself from some of those same personalities when his advisors told him that his associates weren't playing properly to the coveted demographic of middle Americans that make up the country.
