The next administration must immediately confront issues like nuclear proliferation, ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (and covert wars elsewhere), global climate change, a convulsing economy, Russian belligerence, the rise of China, emerging epidemics, Islamism on a hundred fronts, a defunct United Nations, the deterioration of American schools, failures of energy, infrastructure and Internet security

It seems odd that democrats are using the inexperience card to attack Sarah Palin. What in Obama's background makes him any more qualified to discuss these issues. Until the situation in the middle east was explained to him by military advisors, he thought we should just ignore it. Now that he's learned more, he thinks our withdrawal should be conditional. He now thinks a nuclear powered Iran is a serious threat to the world & states he isn't taking any response off the table (including a military response) to prevent Iran's getting a nuclear bomb. Over the past week or so, both candidates have had to seriously educate themselves on the economy.

The argument that Sarah Palin shouldn't be vice president because she doesn't have enough experience just doesn't fly when the other guy is running for PRESIDENT without experience

markd1...you are off a few years and a continent or two....who cares about what a student of Soviet history thinks? Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable in China, or North Korea, orr hey maybe even Russia (former U.S.S.R) Our country is not based on a Marxist philosophy...what have you been smoking????????????

The reason why I agree a lot with the author of this article is the fact that myself I discovered with pain that a good majority of the american people value mediocrity and I am wondering what they are going to pass along to their progeny. I remembered people working hard, making sacrifices for their child to have a better education which was synonym of better tomorrow. After all this was part of the american dream. AMERICA WAKE UP

Senator Obama to include prescriptions for Vicodin and Norco in his national health care plan. "Karl Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses and I just want American to be able to have access to the real thing." said the candidate at a rally in Toledo Ohio.

I am a Pro Choice republican but even I draw the line at babies who are BORN! Obama wants to kill them, where doctors strangle the babies that are born alive during abortions. Pretty disgusting stuff, even for a Democrat to believe in!

Ok if we are going to simply lie and say anything how about this. McCain is/was an adulterous womanizer who joked about women being raped by gorillas. Opps, my bad thats true isnt it.

I vote on the economy, taxes, and JOBS. Mc Cain wins that and that is WHY OBAMA is now saying he will keep taxes low till we get out of the recession.

Ok Mr. Genius Obama if raising taxes NOW will hurt this fragile economy then WHY WOULDN'T raising them later slow job growth, lead to job losses, money FLOWING offshore (what I plan to do), etc.

He's an IDIOT and you MORON DEMOCRATS have ruined America in the last 2 years you've had Congress.

I agree with 1 thing Obama says we need change. Throw the BUM Democrats OUT!!!

    Dear "RightThinkingWoman"

Actually, most of our Founding Fathers were deists, meaning they believed God created the universe but was not involved in its day-to-day operations.

    careerdaytrader:
You can't possibly be serious. Do you honestly believe that only Republicans make up the "clear thinking, hard working, business owners ... who pay 70% of the nation's tax"? I'm an independent who generally votes Democratic, are you saying that I'm lazy and getting a welfare handout? My tax returns beg to differ. I think clearly, I work hard, and I pay my fair share of taxes. How DARE you imply that my political beliefs inherently make me useless to society. As for your beloved Republicans, how do you explain GWB's socialist bailout of Wall Street? Looks like all of us are going to foot the bill for the actions of an exceptionally wealthy, exceptionally corrupt few. Are you aware that the package he and Paulson want to ram through Congress does not allow any checks and balances on where and how that money will be spent? BTW, at least Obama is smart enough to enlist as one of his financial advisors a certain Warren Buffet. Maybe you've heard of him. He's kinda famous for being brilliant with money. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin thinks that going from an annual salary of $64K to $68K constitutes a pay cut. Really, I don't want her anywhere near the presidency.

    • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/22/2008 11:40:42 AM

Carrerdaytrader thinks that ANYONE who doesn't love the Republican party or thinks that John McCain is the second coming is a lazy, non-tax paying welfare recipient. I think he is just panicing if his screen name indicates what he does. He should be careful, he just might be on the breadlines himself if the stockmarket keeps going the way it has been. He just might have to look for the kindness of strangers himself some day. It doesn't matter how many times you tell him that just because you disagree with him it doesn't mean that you work full time, pay your bills and pay your taxes on time too.

Obama denies that key foreign policy advisers are Anti-Israel. "They had to pretend to be Anti-Israel in order to get tenure," said the candidate. "I should know. I taught at the University of Chicago."

Palin's appointment resonates with any student of Soviet history. For extended periods throughout Soviet history, those with education and experience were derided for their elitism. They were shot, imprisoned, exiled or simply sidelined from politics - depending on the period - while "typical" people who supposedly better represented the masses - factory workers, farm laborers, etc. - were elevated to positions of great power. The result was a repressive regime which collapsed in large part through its own mismanagement. Electing Sarah Palin to office would be a tragedy, in the classic Greek sence for we have the power to choose our fate. Her vision is narrow, she appoints school friends to positions over those who are more qualified, and is supremely self confident despite her gaping ignorance. Let us learn from others' mistakes, and vote in favor of candidates who are themselves educated and who will draw from the wonderful, wide range of educated and experienced people that America has to offer when forming an administration. I choose Obama/Biden and the diverse talent they will invite into their administration.

  • Posted By: rjm3 @ 09/22/2008 9:47:53 AM

While I agree with the assessment of Sarah Palin's general lack of experience, I find her selection a politically savy move by the McCain camp. After reading this article a few questions come to mind:
-When is the last time that voters and the media were this focused on a VP nominee?
-How can you criticize Palin's lack of experience without considering Obama's own thin resume?
-Why does this article's attack on Palin's religious beliefs bring back memories of Obama's Jeremiah Wright saga?

I think it's a small political victory to have voters comparing the qualifications of the Republican's #2 with those of the Democrat's #1.

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/22/2008 9:54:39 AM

You're right. Palin's lack of in depth experience just SHOWS how inexperienced Obama is and how MUCH THE MEDIA LOVE HIM for reasons that clear thinking, hard working, business owners and other Republicans who pay 70% of the nation's tax as the lazy Democrats just take our welfare handouts just can't FATHOM!

      • Posted By: benkrapf @ 09/22/2008 10:09:05 AM

        Lazy Democrats like Warren Buffett?

FYI, the most dangerous laziness is when an individual follows lockstep with their party for no other reason than fear. Republicans need to do some soul searching or we may find ourself with a McPalin in the White House and a TRULY broken country two years down the road.

        • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/22/2008 10:34:40 AM

Democrats already ruined America in their 2 years running Congress. Oil prices doubled, financial melt down due to their liberal policies of forcing banks to loan to minorities who have NO DOWN PAYMENT and no income to afford the houses they were buying.

Great job Democrats! You STUPID MORONS have ruined our country!

          • Posted By: dark.energy363 @ 09/22/2008 11:37:11 AM

You have got to be kidding. So you just chose to ignore the fact that Phil Graham and others of his ilk removed ALL oversight/regulations from the market. They systemactically handed the keys to the henhouse to the fox. You have got to be kidding.

          • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/22/2008 11:28:29 AM

I believe it was originally the Republicans that pushed for less regulations on the banks. "Less government in our lives". Yes Bill Clinton also lowered the regulations on the banks and the investment industry. Alan Greenspan, who was a Republican until he changed to Independant, thinks that the banks should be able to "police themselves". Obviously, this has not been working. Republicans can not have it both ways, you cant call for less "government" and then cry wolf when less government means that the fox is watching the hen house.

          • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/22/2008 11:10:07 AM

Comment: Obama does have experience and at the very least an education that would give him the ability to make some of the most important decisions in the world.

Obama has a degree in political science with a specialization in international relations from Columbia University.

Went to Harvard Law School and was the first Black President of the Harvard Law Review. (Not easy for a white guy let alone someone who is "Different". This means he was the best of the best of the most intelligent minds in the country...)

As far as protecting freedom... Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years!!!!! Hmmmmm!!!!!!

After this is when he began his political career...

Can either John McCain or Sarah say they have been the best of the best??? Or are they the best of the ordinary???? We need extra-ordinary people running the country and making decisions...

Key Democrat warns of more terrorist attacks if Obama is not elected. "You aint' seen nothing yet," said Representative Kwanzi Mifune today. "You think the world is angry at us now? "

Why is anyone listening to Biden, he got less than 1% of the vote the last time he ran for President. Some will say he ended his campagian early, does fraud ring a bell. I would be concerned if I was Obama's people because Joe Biden is one angry guy, he may not studder anymore but his mouth seems to still ge the best of him.

Sam Harris opinion much like Nobel Laureate James D. Watson the pioneering DNA scientists with respect to comparing Africans and Europeans. A very elitist questionable paradigm with respect to a person's ability to make decisions. The best minds don't necessarily translate into great leaders.

The left wing loonies are...AFRAID...of Sarah...scared because she is real...Reality scares the bejesus out of the lefties.....and the reality is that the FemiNazi movement has been, unmasked for the lie it has always been.....The vast majority of the women who hate her...are full of guilt and condemnation. They...or...their daughters are guilty of murdering the most innocent of us all...the unborn....and the guilt and self-loathing makes them bitter...so instead of repenting and asking for forgiveness...they demand others to follow their path...and murder more...It gives them an excuse...it feeds their self-hatred....That is the goal of the liberal movement...to be a constant victim....It is the party of victimhood...It's not our fault...they did it to us..I had no choice.

This liberal mentality is a form of mental disorder. The author of this piece of garbage is proof of the fact. Sarah Palin scares you...because you know...you could have made the same choices...but you chose not to...and you can't handle the guilt. Grow up...REPENT...own up to the sin.....Jesus saves...Liberalism KILLS.

Can you please explain to me how Jesus taught love and compassion and your comment was full of vile hatred? I really don't understand. Just because I'm not an ultra conservative does not mean that I'm a "FemiNazi" as you put it. I believe in equal rights for men and women. If that makes me a "FemiNazi" then sobeit. I do not "hate" Gov. Palin as you put it. I just don't think she's the right person for the job. Oh and while you are explaininig how your God thinks it's ok to degrade individuals, perhaps you can give me chapter and verse in the Bible where it says that. See, when I read the New Testament, Jesus embraced those who were "different". He cared for those people who were "different" than him. I really don't understand how "Christians" can spout off all that hatred and vile when Jesus said to do differently. That whole "Love your neighbor as yourself" thing kinda gets lost in translation I guess. Please do not presume to know me just because I may believe a little differently from you. I suggest you go back to read your Bible and really think on what it means to be a Christian. And one more thing. Before you go throwing stones, make sure you aren't in a glass house.

    • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 09/21/2008 12:13:55 PM

WOW...I'm always amazed at the level of hatred and vitriol that you Christians exhibit towards other people. Ummm....didn't Jesus teach you otherwise???? Oh wait...you think that because you believe in God, that you speak for him. I think it's time for you to go back and re-read your Bible, since you've obviously missed the message!

      • Posted By: jeffreylebowskijr @ 09/21/2008 2:33:57 PM

The whole point of organized religion is to allow people explicitly NOT to think, but to take instructions on faith. When you read this guy's post, it's clear he's just regurgitating what he was told by Limbaugh, Colter, and the rest of the true devil (remember what the bible says about how Satan will disguise himself HolyRoller? What about that, hmm?)

    • Posted By: edmorrisey @ 09/21/2008 11:57:42 AM

Separation of church and State...remember? Jesus represents only ONE religion throughout the world, not everyone.

      • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 09/21/2008 12:04:18 PM

ed...each person has free will...to think and believe as they choose. My point was the EXTREME hatred toward Gov. Palin, by the FemiNazi's....that in my opinion is completely rooted in coveteousness and guilt. Gov. Palin has demonstrated that her personal beliefs, did not affect her decisions in policy. That is an unfounded criticism. But to HATE her for valuing life, is beyond twisted.

Get real people..did we forget about Bill Clinton's sexual escapades, the the huge issues surrounding our economic status with the Carter administration? It is evident that you guys are just very biased towards someone who has not been tarnished by Washington politics. I realize that this an opinion piece, and that Mr. Harris, unlike many atheists I know, feels the need to be aggressive and insulting with his proselyting. However, it is unreasonable to say that because Sarah Palin has a large family and strong religious beliefs makes her unqualified to lead. Personally, I do not like her; I think she is not well-informed on international politics and I disagree with her on many issues, but perhaps Mr. Harris ought to consider his own extremism before attacking Governor Palin's.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/22/2008 11:29:39 AM

There are so many reasonable ways to attack Governor Palin on policy and substance. I can't understand why people think personal attacks on her will be affective. It only adds to her appeal.

Sarah Palin has a lot in common with a very famous Christian. The problem is that the way in which she defines herself as a Christian demands that she represent only one extreme religious point of view and can therefore only represent those who agree with her. She represents as her immediate Republican Party predecessors do, TYRANNY, wrapped in a flag, and brandishing a bible. It's frightening that people are buying her bull, just like she's selling it! Make no mistake Sarah Palin is a very talented POLITICIAN, but she has used her very feminine wiles to fool millions of naive and unsuspecting Americans that she's just like y'all - "JUST A HOCKEY MOM". If you believe that then I have a BRIDGE THAT I WANT TO SELL YOU!
