I suppose Obama's "community organizer" experience makes him so much more knowledgeable regarding world events? He sputters when he's without carefully crafted speech. Typical media hypocrite. You all brag about his intelligence and ability to rise above HIS lack of experience, but for some reason Palin would be incapable of doing the same (even though she's had an executive role.) At least you had the decency to put "OPINION" in the title - unlike your other openly biased coworkers.

In a new low, Senator Biden mocks Palin's lack of education. "She probably thinks that Tennessee Williams was a country singer." said Mr. Biden. "She probably thinks Cornell is some kind of foot wart." "She probably thinks that Darmouth is some kind of lake bass." "She probaly thinks Middlebury is a shallow grave." "she probably does not know the h is silent in Amherst" GO LORD JEFFREYS.

Unbelievable. You would think the Obama campaign would show more humility

???And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly, it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people. And when I look on my people I see them work and work and toil and labor, and at the end of the week they have only for their wages wretchedness and misery. When I go out in the morning and see these men standing in their queues and look into their pinched faces, then I believe I would be no Christian, but a very devil, if I felt no pity for them, if I did not, as did our Lord two thousand years ago, turn against those by whom today this poor people are plundered and exploited.???

Sounds a lot like a Repugnican political candidate in that he was willing to say anything to get into power, at which point his true vision came into play. What truly awaits us should McCain/Palin ride their lies into the White House? I truly shudder at the thought.

  • Posted By: Sarah1234 @ 09/22/2008 10:54:08 AM

I dont really think that Palin has the experience to lead but why slam her intellingence? Just because someone is religious, they have to be stupid as well? What if someone in the media said "Well Obama can't possibly be intelligent enough to make decisions because he is black and they are notorious for their stupidity" They would fire that person so quick that heads would spin, God will take care of the ending of this world and the ones that believe that will have everlasting life and just because it scares you and you denounce it doesn't make it go away.

    • Posted By: dark.energy363 @ 09/22/2008 11:21:33 AM

How about not god taking care of ending this world but instead a person believing they are "acting" in behalf of god to end the world. You merchants of death.

Everlasting life and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause and the Loch Ness Monster. Sarah Palin is both stupid and a liar.

  • Posted By: SouthernSoccerMom @ 09/22/2008 11:03:03 AM

I am a Christian, southern, Republican, stay at home mom and I agree. I am sick of people assuming i would support the McCain/Palin ticket because she is a mom like me. Give me a little more credit. I hear a lot of McCain supporters telling me why I should fear Obama, but very few reasons to vote for McCain. The average person in my state is hurting and we want change. Do I wish Obama had more experience - yes. Do I still think he is a better choce than McCain - you bet.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/22/2008 11:21:23 AM

Well put.Unfortunately, articles like this one give comfort to those who are supporting McCain for the wrong reasons.

I'd like to respond to Sarah1234 (and people who say the arguments against Palin also apply to Obama): neither Palin nor Obama have much experience, but intelligence is a completely different matter. Black people sometimes suffer from the racist stereotype that they are less intelligent, but few people would say that of Obama. It's not just about good speech. You are comparing someone who took six years from five small mushroom colleges to compete a bachelor in communication, to someone who has a Columbia degree on International Relations, and a Harvard law degree. In terms of speech content, you are comparing someone who has no particular views about the world apart from the fact that she lives "near" Russia, to someone who has a comprehensive and coherent Wilsonian view about International Relations (read Obama's book or his earlier not-so-dumbed-down campaign speeches). I can go on and on about Obama's superior reasoning skills when he flushed out his thinking on several occasions. (Trained as a theoretical physicist, I pay more attention to such things than most people do.)

"I believe that with the nomination of Sarah Palin for the vice presidency, the silliness of our politics has finally put our nation at risk."
If that's the case, than how can anyone support Obama. We at least want an individual in office that will pledge their allegiance to our country, he won't even wear an American flag pendant or put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Not to mention the fact that he has been indoctrinated for over 20 years in a church that teaches that white people should all die and if God doesn't make it happen, well he should die too.
Or what about his policy to negotiate with terrorists. Obama would not be good for America, not because he is black, but because he is full of hate. That is a silly political move that will put our country at risk.

    • Posted By: dark.energy363 @ 09/22/2008 11:16:36 AM

You have got to be kidding. Enough with you merchants of death. Can you imagine putting this women in charge of our nuclear arsenal when she is hoping for the coming of an armageddon. Why you people so relish in the potential death and destruction of countless million is deplorable.

Epidemic source discovered. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta announced today that the epidemic of Clinging to Bibles and Guns Syndrome (CBGS) had been traced to Gideon Bibles left in motel rooms throughout the Midwest. The Obama campaign has called for Gideon Bibles to be removed and replaced with copies of Of Mice and Men.

You can say anything you want to about Sarah Palin and her views, experieince, etc, in terms of her being a future President, if McCain should not complete his first term. At the present time she is not qualified to lead the free world, I agree. The problem is that the same thing is true of Barack Obama. He is not qualified to be President either. Is he slightly more qualified than Sarah Palin? Perhaps but I doubt it. All he can really do is give good speeches so long as he has a teleprompter.

Leaving race aside, the only reason that Obama is ahead of McCain in the polls (if he still is) is that he has a commanding presence which McCain does not. Obama looks young and vital; McCain looks old and crumpled. I don't have cable tv and I spent the last weekend with some friends who do have cable. For the first time I could see the two of them campaigning. I was struck by the difference in physical appearance and told my friends that now I know why Obama is ahead in the polls. It shows just how shallow and lacking in substance so many American voters (the ones who support Obama) really are.

So we have a choice as Americans, choose the ticket where the unqualified person is at the top of the ticket with the qualified person in the second slot or choose the ticket with the unqualified person in the second slot where the qualified person is in the top slot.

The Liberal media is having a field day with Palin but seems to give a pass to Obama. Excuse me, not just a pass but a cheering on!

I think most of the people in red America would prefer to hear Sarah Palin bash Obama and the Liberals and the left wing media than they would prefer to listen to Obama, the Liberals and the left wing media.

Comparing Sarah to Obama is like apples to oearnges. Look Obama is a Hrvard Law Scholar and Proffesor, therefore his knowledge on policy making and International law are far greater than a 5 time college jumper Sarah who could barely get her journalism Diploma. Obama's character and mannerism portray thoughfulness, lucidity, clearness of thought, he can bridge differences between parties and reach consensus. Sarah governing style is my way or the highway, fire anyone whi disagrees, that speaks volumes of her character and the way she would rule if McCain does choke on a spare rib. 12 years as a in the legislator for the district of Chicago and 4 years in the Senate is experience enough.

I could never vote for someone who belonged to an anti-American church for 20 years and claims he did not hear the message. I will never vote for Obama.

    • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/22/2008 11:00:59 AM

I guess you would vote for a woman who's exit strategy is the Revelation? You can keep Sarah Palin.

    • Posted By: bethND @ 09/22/2008 10:33:29 AM

Yet you would vote for someone whose husband was a member of an anti-American group that wanted AK to cecede? I'll vote for someone who has an education relevant to the job....someone that actually graduated top of the class.

    • Posted By: bethND @ 09/22/2008 10:30:28 AM

Yet you would vote for someone who is married to an anti-American man who wanted Alaska to cecede? I don't know about you but I don't always listen to every word in a sermon. Wake up.

  • Posted By: carolo @ 09/22/2008 11:00:09 AM

Sarah Palin went to 5 different schools to get her Bachelor of Science Degree. A degree in journalism is hardly enough education to be Vice. However, John McCain was 895th out of a class of 899th so he's not exactly a brain child.

  • Posted By: HockeyMom18 @ 09/22/2008 10:27:01 AM

Why is that the liberals want us to look at the company Palin keeps but they don't want us to look at the company Obama keeps? I am more fearful of Obama's terrorist friends and the Rev. Wright, than Palin's. Shouldn't we inspect all the candidates with the same looking glass?

I don't have to agree with you nor you with me what we do need to do is treat each other with respect. I know it is hard for the woman's libbers and non religious folks but please remember my grandfather, husband and son have fought for your right to have your opinions and express them in view of the world, please at least try and be respectful you I am sure would want the same.

    • Posted By: clcorbett @ 09/22/2008 10:57:39 AM

So what about Sarah Palin's husband? The AIN wants the option of seceding, it's right their in bold print on their website, and he was a member for 7 years. BTW, I attend church every Sunday, don't call me non-religious. I'm no feminist either. And my dad and brother-in-law both served this country in the military, plus my father-in-law was a POW, too. Answer the question, do you want a secessionist whispering in the ear of the VP?

Our country was built upon the principal of freedom of religion, less government intervention in our personal lives, and other guiding principals. The article simply demonstrates that Palin would not adhere to the principals our country was built on. Additionally when it comes to foreign policy, God does not dictate what man should do - our President does after weighing all of the facts. We need someone who is willing to objectively weigh all the facts prior to making a decision. Can Palin do this?

  • Posted By: stellar7blue @ 09/22/2008 10:49:16 AM

Although I sympathize with this author's concerns, the difference of qualifications for Mrs. Palin are highly biased though well-fleshed out. I do not see the author appealing to the other side of the aisle - the one's, who like-minded with Sarah Palin, observe her disqualifications.

Furthermore, "dogmatic" beliefs differ from worldview and doctrine. The use of dogma inappropriately continues the misinterpretation of this word to be universally applied to negative religious beliefs. In essence, dogma is a codified principle that is essential to religion-not person. Dogma, furthermore, is essential in the Roman Catholic faith on very few beliefs (papal infallibility on Mary as a Virgin, etc). Therefore, Dogma is a classification by a profession of laity or clergy or a collection by which membership is subscribed.

This exceptionally well-written peice offers much to those of similar belief, but this continues to be the same argument of who is better elected to run the country? The critical thinking is supurb; however, the attack is far more personal and such artistic leway blurs the line between religion and state. Why not examine her principles blind of her religious and spiritual background? This article is clearly not authored by someone who can draw the distinction, truly intoning an elitist view that ultimately submerses his own argument by prejudice.

How can we get people looking to talk when their worldviews are constantly attacked? Yes, voting on values can limit the scope of the picture, but maybe America needs a wake-up call to understand how those values are limited in scope rather than ostrasize for having any values. We cannot cloud the argument behind veiled "education" because both sides come out smelling elitist.

So Mr. Day trader, if you are among those who would look at the attacks and ambushes on Palin as "media gimmicks," then would you also agree that the claims you bring up were also "media gimmicks," an unfair, unwarranted attack from the opposing side that picks an irrelevant fact and twists it in to something extreme.
I also find it humorous that you would think that Barack is a racist, and that you would bring up these points in an article about SARAH PALIN that mentions nothing about the Democratic Candidate.

  • Posted By: Spincast01 @ 09/22/2008 10:47:43 AM

People! This is NOT about the "company" someone keeps. This is about what one actually believes to be true and the influence those irrational beliefs have in making decisions of the greatest import.

If you weigh the magical thinking, imaginary friends, the infallibility of certain "holy" books, she's closer to Ahmadinejad than Obama. Grow a brain! Then use it!

Yes, this is an intelligent, reasoned, accurate assessment of Palin and her meager qualifcations for any politcal position, let alone that of Vice-President of the United States, but Harris is, after all, only doing his job when he points out that the emperor has no clothes. The presence of someone like Palin on the political scene is frightening enough, but more terrifying still is the absence of responsible journalists, brave enough & intelligent enough to flush out quacks and charlatans. Harris may be a noted provocateur, but in this
instance, he speaks the unvarnished truth.

  • Posted By: MotherOfOne28 @ 09/22/2008 10:47:10 AM

Well Put! I especially like the comparison between Jamie Lyn and Bristol, the idea that it is so wrong for one teenager to become pregnant and then get married, as oppose to one who some in the Christian world is making it seem as if it is ok for her to get pregnant and commending her on keeping the child...such double standard and hypocrisy.

Now as far as I am concern America will be a scary place and it would be a sad day for the world if Palin/McCain "as she puts it recently" should become leaders of the free world. Elitism/or being well educated is not such a bad thing, well as far as I am concern anyway. I would not want my neighbour who has no idea of what he is doing or no real training to operate on me, the same way I would not want a beauty queen to be one heart beat away from becoming the president of America.

Also it is beyond me how women who supported Hillary can now say they support Palin...what are you all thinking or not? How can you look at her as a substitue for Hillary? They are as opposite as night and day. It is sad that you would vote for someone because she is just a woman, because I cannot see any other reason. Sure she is a working hockey mom, but why do you believe your concerns or needs will be her concern when she gets into the big house? Yes it would be good to have a woman as president (and at the rate at which this campaign is running she seems to be the one running for president and not McCain) but how can you just throw your vote behind someone who knows very little about what is going on in the world, are you all that blind?

Wake up and be real, put all emotions aside, and think for one min. what does she really bring to the table apart from being a working mother! If she needs so much prepping before she can face the media, shouldn't we all be concern! Her using God to justify the war in Iraq is also another cause for concern no matter how much she tries to down play it or rephrase her statement!

WAKE UP AMERICA.......IF NOT FOR YOURSELF......FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND THE WORLD WHO CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ELECTION BUT WATCH.................

I wish there was a more powerful way to say "Completely agree." Very few people understand the need for intelligence in politics. And amazingly, I'm afraid that very few will attribute the failures of the last eight years as having anything to do with intelligence. Americans seem to want to have "someone like them" in the White House. An unbelievably scary pattern.

  • Posted By: MoJabar @ 09/22/2008 10:41:16 AM

Culture wars aside voting Republican is too expensive. Democrats may be tax and spend but Republicans are spendtrhifts. Whatever Obama plans to to cannot be more expensive than the wars in Iraq and Afghanastan and the bailout of Freddie and Fannie and AIG. Republicans used to be fiscal conservatives who championed the free market. More than ironic that Republicans accuse Obama of socialism, when it is the Republicans who have forced me and other tax payers to pay for banking and insurance excesses. If Obama is socialist, at least he honest about it.
