What an elitist article! Urban and money doesn't qualify someone for having more experience nor the ability to think! People who comes from small towns and lives in small towns chose to reside there and make their lives there. Its a choice, not a mind set! Liberals should know about choices, right?

I don't what people running the government and making policies based on what they think God is telling them. God is not holding our debt. If oil stops being traded in dollars and switches to say euro's, our empire will come crashing down. And yes, the US has been building an empire based on OIL! However, we now consume more than we produce. We don't have the manufacturing base that helped get us out the the great depression and win WWII. This is why the Iraq occupation has not helped the economy. I don't what leaders who still believe in free unregulated trade and "shock doctrine" economics. I want people who can deal with reality which includes the facts. Endtimers like Palin believe a war in the Middle East will bring on the rapture and the second coming of Jesus. I don't what her finger anywhere near the nuclear button!

So many people completely pooping their pants over the idea that Sarah Palin will (a) blow up the world, (b) force all of her religious views on Americans, (c) dissolve the Constitution, (d) is the puppet of some mysterious group of evil doers, and (e) has no ability to form a single thought in her head...makes me think I need to vote for McCain/Palin. I have yet to see any actual evidence, so the epithets must be for lack of argument.

    McCain/Palin 2008!

There is one area that people tend to forget, if Palin does become prez, nobody thinks that she does not have the opportunity to select a new vice president. Something to ponder

It is ironic that the party of the elite, Godless, intelligentsia could not get its candidates elected to the position of dog-catcher without the substantial perennial vote of the poorest, most uneducated groups among us. Many of these voters are so poorly educated that they can barely read and cannot balance their own checkbooks. So the Democrats whisper sweet nothings in their ears, throw them an occasional bone and ignore them between elections.

Have you really ever looked at the real statistics here, or are you just parroting? The single best predictor of whether somebody supports liberal/progressive ideas and candidates is whether or not they're highly educated -- it is the poor, desperate, un(der) educated and over zealous religious folks who vote for the rigid and authoritarian policies and candidates -- there was even a study last week that pointed to an increased responsiveness to fear being an indicator of conservative politics. I don't mind debating you guys, but at least do your own research and don't just keep repeating whatever you've been fed -- the information IS out there for you if you're willing to turn off Fox News for a sec...

Just remember, these zealots' hero, Ann Coulter, was certain that Canada sent troops to Vietnam until politely corrected by a journalist. This is the breadth of the education that is exploited by crazed fundamentalist groupthink.

Here's a real question to ponder: If ignorance is bliss, why is Holly roller so nasty and angry?

We want elite pilots to fly our planes, elite troops to undertake our most critical missions, elite athletes to represent us in competition and elite scientists to devote the most productive years of their lives to curing our diseases. And yet, when it comes time to vest people with even greater responsibilities, we consider it a virtue to shun any and all standards of excellence. When it comes to choosing the people whose thoughts and actions will decide the fates of millions, then we suddenly want someone just like us, someone fit to have a beer with, someone down-to-earth???in fact, almost anyone, provided that he or she doesn't seem too intelligent or well educated. -Sam Harris.

If people believe that the Iraq war is a task from God, it doesnt make them any different from an islamic radical believing that his task ends in sacrifice or 72 virgins. Result is both parties use religion to answer political situations.

If America wants to preach Democracy, maybe it should fix its own institution before establishing it elsewhere. Oh i forgot it was about the WMD's(Want More Drilling).

In a way, you have a point, but in another way, you need to understand that Americans don't start wars, we defend ourselves when one is started against us, and we do not do it in the name of anyone, including God. There have been wars mentioned through out the Bible history, where God did intervene, but to say God is on any particular side is to sound very pompous, so instead, maybe when we pray, we should ask that His will be done concerning the situation, and ask for His blessing in keeping our family and loved ones, and
the innocents safe. We can not possibly know the workings of God's plans, so we live each day by faith and trust. We, also, can not say that something is not God's plan, since it is written that God works in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform. I don't argue with the creator (at least not often, because he always wins!) but, I have been known to pout when He says "NO" to something I want, but then he tells me he has something better in mind, so it turns out great.

Ask yourselves: What's really the goal here? The religious right's eye is firmly on the prize... It may be the presidency, but only because that is the only way they an pack the Supreme Court with socially conservative judges. The Supreme Court is the REAL goal here.

They (the hard core religious right) don't really care about the economy. In their view, another worldwide depression would be a good thing... for their religious agenda. Imagine if the world economy really DOES implode. Multi millions of people out of work and in need... Then in steps the evangelical big-tent revival snake-oil salesmen saying "Step right up, folks! The Lord will provide for you, just accept Jesus as your saviour... and vote how we tell you to vote." You see, if McCain actually manages to steal this election like Bush did in 2000, the religious right actually HOPES that something really does happen to McCain in his first term. Palin is who they really want in the first place. They're not voting for McCain, their voting for Palin.

well, why do you liberals try to match her aginst Obama's media created identity always. Match it with Mccain who is Obama's real opponent. Gov. Palin has some years to get her experience with "head of states" . The probability of something happening to Mccaine is not that different from that of Obama, as of now. .. atleast for next 4 years.

    • Posted By: tpowers63 @ 09/21/2008 6:57:55 PM

All women over 35 are encouraged to take amnios. But the question is legitimate: If she never intended to abort (and would never consider such a thing), why would she take it? Perhaps to find out if she had a potentially fatal condition for HERSELF?

As we know, fetus-worshippers seem to believe it's okay to "slaughter babies" if they pose a threat to the life of the mother. In other words, they see certain fetuses as mini-terrorists. Not innocent. Worthy of annihalation.

Sam Harris, you're so smart, do you think you could win an election for Governor? I doubt it. But let's say you did. Do you think you would then be smart enough to get an 80% approval rating from your constituents? I doubt it. Tell me Sam, what inspires you more about Obama, the changey hopetude or the hopey changetude? McCain can't use email. The horror. So? When was the last time Obama landed a jet on an aircraft carrier, pitching in the ocean, at night? Hmm? Keep it up, dude. People of religious inclinations are often so insecure and self projected that they have to portray an image of absolute certainty , of absolute trustworthiness and moral superiority and therefore make the worst bosses, chiefs, spouses and partners. This type of personality has a name : compulsive personality disorder. This people are inflexible, they take any form of criticism or disagreement as a personal injury leashed upon their character. They are usually very controlling in very aspect of their life's, wether at the office or in all types of human relationships. Palin's record exhibits all of those characteristics and the Pentecostal religion being the most dogmatic, restrictive, sexually repressive protestant religion is full of these types of personalities. This country has turned against reason and has embraced superstition, myth and religious bigotry. Once upon a time we elected politicians that pandered to these people but were not openly claiming that they were one of them and therefore ruled from the center. Now, we are electing and placing them in the highest government and court positions. If Obama, who is also a self declared Christian, - a characteristic that appears to be litmus test for American politics-- does not get elected , we will be stepping right into the Dark Ages.

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/21/2008 6:53:01 PM

dreamweaver, go weave some baskets. You fear something in the vague veil of reality, but do not fear something that is an absolute. How interesting. And given that many people think there is a seperation of state and church, tell me why, then, do we have "In God we trust" on our money, why do we swear on the Bible when giving oathes, why does, practically, every patriotic song have phrases that mention God? I'll tell you why, because this is a country based on christian beliefs, a christian foundation, and I don't care what some try to say contrary to that, and another thing, a REAL christian does NOT try to shove their beliefs down anyone's throut, nor do they feel superior to anyone; A REAL christian feels grateful, and humble to be able to live in a country where they can worship as they choose, and a REAL christian does not attempt to tell others how to believe. Anyone claiming to be a christian, and tries to make you feel unworthy unless you agree to the way they believe, is NOT a REAL christian. There are some people in this world who are too busy practicing their RELIGION to be CHRISTIANS. Jesus LED, He did not shove!

    Mark Hosenball

    NEWSWEEK

From the magazine issue dated Sep 29, 2008

The principal achievement of Sarah Palin's term as Alaska's governor, a natural-gas pipeline project backed by $500 million in state tax money, might never be built unless Canadian authorities can strike a deal with some of the country's angry Indian tribes. Approximately half of the proposed pipeline would run through Canada; native tribes who live along its route complain they haven't been consulted about it and are threatening to sue unless they are compensated. Representatives of the canadian tribes, known as First Nations, say Palin and other pipeline proponents are treating them with disrespect. The tribes' lawyers warn that the courts are on their side and say the Indians have the power to delay the pipeline for years???or even kill it entirely by filing endless lawsuits."

Well, we know Palin is already dreading the Biden faceoff.

But that's okay. She gets special treatment, reserved for retards:

The Obama and McCain campaigns have agreed to an unusual free-flowing format for the three televised presidential debates, which begin Friday, but the McCain camp fought for and won a much more structured approach for the questioning at the vice-presidential debate, advisers to both campaigns said Saturday.

At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

    • Posted By: Geministorm @ 09/21/2008 5:48:53 PM

I imagine that the Obama camp agreed to the debate format because Biden has Foot-in-Mouth disease. Thus, both parties benefit.

      • Posted By: tpowers63 @ 09/21/2008 6:47:39 PM

No, they agreed because they were DYING to have McCain admit he picked a running mate who's three icecubes short of an igloo.

    • Posted By: All-Star1980 @ 09/21/2008 5:44:25 PM

Wow, if Palin is so easily rattled by a loose format debate, I am sure she will do REALLY well if she is ever faced with having to negotiate with foreign leaders. I am sure the leaders of Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea will be super-accommodating to Palin!

          It does? From your source;

          "Change in Selection System

Mr. Obama was elected after a meeting of the review's 80 editors that convened Sunday and lasted until early this morning, a participant said.

Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. Among these were Elliot L. Richardson, the former Attorney General, and Irwin Griswold, a dean of the Harvard Law School and Solicitor General under Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.

That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review. "

4 years later the Constitution is something past generations talk about, but it's gone. Palin is now looking to run for a second, third fourth, and fifth term. There is really no doubt she will win because the Republican Party is now the only legal party and FOX is the only government on the air. If this looke funny THINK of who runs the Banks now. Barbie was picked so they stick their hand up her butt and pupett out anything they need you to see and hear. If you think this is crap tell me how we were lead to war with Iraq.
