    Kurt Gibson, one of Alaska's top officials overseeing the pipe-line project, says it is "premature" in the process to start consulting with Canadian Indians.

    This is the kind of statement that puts ignorant non-natives into a bad position because the successful way to get agreements with First Nations is not by telling them what they should think is a good deal. Instead, success has been in agreements where First Nations were involved in the deveopment proocess. Most corporations in the natural resource industry working in Canada know this. What American's Iand ignorant Canadians) don't recognize is the First Nations have both Aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights and just about every inch of Canada is covered by them. Aboriginal peoples in Canada were NOT conquored. Instead, Canada was established nation to nation agreements recognized by the U.N. Its only that in this most recent decade that First Nations have exercised their rights in protecting themselves from being trampled on by modern developments by people who have never respected their legal stewardship over lands in Canada.

    She just whines when she talks. I cannot stand listening to her, let alone the lies that she is fed to read out loud because nobody wants to listen to McCain. Remember, McCain was boring and nothing without Palin - same old Bush-man. For all those who are trigger-happy, she will be VP - VP does NOTHING. McCain is running for president and he is still boring and another Bush-man. So voting for them together means another eight years of Bush!!!! Get that through your heads. Also, as a woman, Palin does not represent what a lot of us want - teaching abstinence in schools instead of responsibility; no abortion in case of rape or incest. This is a very scary woman to me. She has lied about her experience (bridge to nowhere, being in Iraz, Troopergate, and on and on and on). If something did happen to McCain during his presidency, is this truly someone you want running our country? Someone picked only because they can be a loudmouth female used as a ploy to draw Hillary voters? Are you actually going to fall for that? I hope not. If you do, you honestly deserve what you get, but unfortunately others will have to pay the price - us, the middle and lower class who are now struggling as a result of the last eight years. Please wake up and realize what is/has happened and don't be fulled. Vote intelligently, as an American.

    in canada we have first nations communities not indian tribes. this verbiage is condescending and mildly racist. good on my first nation's brothers and sisters for upholding their soverign land rights and demanding consultation and compensation. these first nations comunities are not a bunch of uneducated indians as suggested in this article.

    Just watch how the candidates (president and V.P.) interact with the American people after speeches and on the campaign trail. McCain, Obama, and Biden all shake people???s hands and interact with them. On the other hand Palin only signs her autograph on hats and flyers. This speaks a lot about how she views hear position in this election and what type of V.P. she will be.

      I for one, being a nobody was able to walk right up to her and talk to her. As our Gov She really cares about what the people think. Thats why she has such a high (80%) aproval rating up here in Alaska. I am so tired of the BS spin that a large part of the media are putting out that I know are blatent lies. I have lived in Alaska 24 years and know the truth. You need to know a little more about a person other than reading an artical from a group that makes sure every artical they write about her has a negitive spin.

    I feel it is odd how so many of the Dems are victims.....talking about a cartel that they can't do anything about....how they are being tricked....how they are being out maneuvered... how Palin's husband will get a raise from her being V.P.??? Listen to yourselves.. Are you that weak? Stand up for yourselves and oust your party???s majority from Congress (as they have half of the approval ratings of G.Bush I would think you would want them out...)
    Remember McCain was hated be the GOP b/c he crossed party lines. Now you think he's a G.W.-third term???er b/c he's voted with G.W. 90% of the time?? B.O. voted with his party (remember they have 1/2 the approval rating of G.W. Bush) 97% of the time by those measuring terms.
    Don't be a victim. Just vote and realize both parties stretch the truth and exaggerate.
