Well, what do we expect ? When a man has been in Washington for 26 years, unless that man is a man of the people who travels by public transportation, the chances are that he will become out of touch with the needs of the people. I can barely get my one old car running. That's agood reason why Senator McCain believes the economy is fundamentally strong. But the ordinary American who unlike the Senator with his 13 cars, knows how to respond to the question "Are You Better Off Today Than You Were Eight Years Ago When McCain George Bush Cheney Republicans Took Over The Reins Of The Country?

Wake up America, the McCains do not live in our world nor does Palin. do you think they know whats its like to make a decision on should I let this medication go this month to pay a bill, should I cut back to two meals a day, skip lunch, they never face such decisions, at least Obama got where he is by doing it himself, he was poor and knows what its like!

Great article. Too bad it didn't mention the McCain's private jet.

    • Posted By: marybare @ 09/22/2008 4:12:29 AM

ukenuke - your name says it all. Check out Obama's connection to "The Chicago Machine" - they created him and totally own him. He will support them if he becomes president.

Please note - 1 car in Obama's name and 1 car in McCain's name. That is all that needs to be said!!!

But you won't see the UAW happy that the family owns a Cadillac, a Ford, two Jeeps, a Lincoln, two Gem's (Chrysler), and a GMC? And the Honda was made here, too. That is buying A LOT of American. Talk about petty partisan politics!

  • Posted By: koonsl @ 09/22/2008 3:23:23 AM

At least Obama not only "talks the talk" but "walks the walk."

McCain just "talks the talk." What a hypocrite.

  • Posted By: Dmitriy @ 09/22/2008 3:20:40 AM

Even Obama's choice of car is a way to pander to voters. This guy is a scam and can't be trusted.

  • Posted By: Dmitriy @ 09/22/2008 3:19:09 AM

Even Obama's vehicle is a show to sucker in the votes. Obama is a scam.

  • Posted By: koonsl @ 09/22/2008 3:02:21 AM

    John McCain should be truthful.

Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.

I am not a fool, and I don't appreciate being talked down to like a fool by senator mccain.

Our great nation's founding fathers must be spinning in their graves at this lack of integrity in this American senator.

  • Posted By: Avidread2 @ 09/21/2008 6:14:19 PM

And McCain claims Obama is an elitist. Since someone with seven homes, 13 cars and millions in assets can't really throw stones at Obama's one house, one car and moderate assets, I guess he must have meant that Obama's education made him an elitist. I mean raising himself up from a lower middle class upbringing to graduate top of his class at Harvard is pretty fancy. And I guess McCain being born with a silver spoon ij his mouth and walking into the Naval Academy with abysmal grades because his father and grandfather were Navy admirals is a success story. Oh--and did I mention he graduated 451 out of 454. With those credentials, I don't blame him for trying to turn Obama's success and hard work against him. What is he going to say? "Hey, I'm a smart guy too. I graduated three spots from the bottom of my class."

    • Posted By: tjjust @ 09/22/2008 2:12:21 AM

Was John Kerry's wife's family not elitists? The Heinz family has a lot of money...we all use ketchup.

    • Posted By: pgurlatl @ 09/21/2008 6:58:04 PM

"Elistist" was just code for "uppity" which just stops short of saying the N word. How dare Obama have a million dollar home and one car! And how dare he think he can actually become POTUS!

      • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 7:19:28 PM

I agree. I mean who really thinks John McCain can sit up in his 7 houses with his 13 cars and his millions and call Barack Obama and "elitist"? It's absolutely absurd. I can't believe people let that one slide. Paris Hilton? Who do you think lives a life closer to Paris Hilton's? I bet even young Paris knows how many houses she owns.

you need to look at all the goodies democrats give themselves at your expense. mcain pays for huis democrats make you pay. if that isnt dumb the n keep doing it and drive a 1994 crap car

    • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 6:58:07 PM

THIS explains his feeble grasp of the economy. He probably failed Economics 101!

Hondas are made in America, aS THE "Big 3" invest money in Mexico and canadian plants, Honda has invested an enormous amount of money in this country as they develop and build automobiles. When I was in the automobile business Honda was over 90% Amercian made. But the "Big 3" complained to congreess so it never recieved domestic status. The Accord alone has been built in America since 1982.

    "his success"??

Mr. MacCain went right from the Navy to Congress, he has never held a job in his life!!

Oh, if you want to count the $50k Cindy's Budwiser Distributorship paid him in 1980 after they married so he could campaign full-time for Congress!

John McCain has FAILED every test he ever had,

POOR Student 890 of 895 at Annapolis
Crashed 5 planes, once returning from the Army-Navy game

    • Posted By: maucka @ 09/21/2008 10:15:17 PM

I'm in the Navy, So does that mean I don't have a job that is worth anyting. He was a comanding Officer of his unit (the biggest unit the Navy had at the time) So that does not
qualify has a job. What job as Obama held???

      • Posted By: tinatuna @ 09/22/2008 1:59:53 AM

Oh yeah, Obama is a lawyer. He went to Harvard. He has taught and also done lidigation. He also had many jobs putting himself through school, but I'm sure you will make fun of them. He was a community organizer....but you probably don't think that's a job. Palin doesn't. By the way, I was a community organizer. It's not fun, low pay and tons of hours. Go ahead, make fun.

      • Posted By: tinatuna @ 09/22/2008 1:55:47 AM

No, it means you are an honorable person who has joined the Navy. I thank you. My Uncle is 52 years old and now in the middle of this war. He was sent to fight because George Bush lied to get us into a war. He is honorable, but George Bush is not. I know you are a good person, but so are the rest of us that want our families to come home for good. It's killing our family and we can't survive. He was married for 37 years w/ 5 kids and his wife divoriced him. McCain and Bush are the same and McCain said we should stay in Iraq and we should keep fighting. It's not fair to our military to fight their wars. We need to give our military a chance to grow and strengthen...more trouble is coming.

Democrats, liberal media especially, are such hypocrites. Did you do these kinds of 'serious investigative reports' when John Kerry was the democratic nominee? I don't remember the 'how many cars does John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry have' article, etc.

    • Posted By: tinatuna @ 09/22/2008 1:48:08 AM

Yes they did, but you didn't care then. They were all over his wife for having money. Too bad in that case John Kerry and his wife actaully did NOT lie about how many houses and who bought cars for thier kids. You are right...they are both married to rich women, but one did not lie about it and then pretent to relate to the middle class. Ond did. McCain. I'm sorry but he will say what ever he thinks will get him elected and he thinks we American's are stupid.

  • Posted By: tinatuna @ 09/22/2008 1:44:07 AM

I am in shock. It must be nice to get such large tax breaks and pay less percentage wise because you make so much money. I am voting for the man who will lower 95% of American's taxes. I am voting for the man who will stop the war and bring my Uncle home. I am voting for the man who will protect women's rights and who knows how many cars he has and who he bought them for.

    Obama.

This is some of the worst journalism of this election. It's biased, it's petty, it belongs on Inside Edition, not Newseek Magazine. Do some real reporting, Newseek. No one cares how many houses or how many cars McCain has. They care about what the candidates will do to revive this economy. They care about how we deak with Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran. There's gotta be some real news out there, Newsweek. Why don't you go report it?

  • Posted By: valiant817 @ 09/22/2008 1:33:46 AM

You call this journalism? This is some of the most shameful "reporting" of this election. When the article cites the "fuss" over candidates' houses they fail to mention that the fuss was simply faux outrage the DNC put out to try to score political points on a non-issue and paint McCain as out of touch. It used to be LA was the only place where it mattered what car you drove...No one asked George Washington how many horse carriages he had, or what fleet of autos the Kennedy clan owned. Who cares? Other than Big Labor, of course, no one does. Average Americans have real things to worry about, like soaring gas and food prices and an economy on the brink of collapse. Want to do some real reporting Newsweek? Why don't you report on how Barack Obama really intends to "change" this country, in some concrete terms other than some vague rhetoric or the basic fact that he obviously brings some color to the White House. Do some real reporting, Newsweek.

  • Posted By: kcwolf @ 09/22/2008 12:57:52 AM

I agree who cares what the canidates drive. Does it really matter what they drive or how many homes they own. I would be willing to beat over half of Congress, have more than one home or more than one car. Rather it's American made or foreign. I wish too, that the media would cover the indepent canidate that is running. He deserves to be heard as much as the senator's. To of whom, I blame for many of country's problems. Remember the parties running against each other don't get along. They can't even pass a bill with out blaming the other for it's faults.

  • Posted By: rongstad @ 09/22/2008 12:18:54 AM

Who cares? The media persists in covering this meangles drivel. How about some coverage of the third party candidates in the race. Let us here some alternative views from the status quo special interest views of Obama and McCain.
