I repeat: instead of worrying about how many homes and cars the McCains have, you should be worrying about the fact that Obama is a primary sponsor of a bill to give $845 BILLION dollars to third world countries, over and above what we already give in foreign aid. It would be distributed over about 13 years, I think. I wondered where he might want the taxpayers money to go after I heard the views of his pastor & church.

Since when are the facts partisan? It's the job of a news organization to report facts, and if those facts portray one candidate in a more favorable light (as many of the comments posted here state or imply) then that's because of how you interpret the facts. What are they supposed to do, just ignore any information that might allow people to make a value judgement of one candidate over the others? That's kind of the whole point of the first amendment.

Wow, for a multi-millionaire McCain sure has boring taste in cars....but then look at the drip he is married to. Go out an order up one of those cool Teslas or Volts that are out of reach pricewise for us average folks. I am just envisioning him driving around in his Caddy all filled with road-rage at the young whipper snappers whizzing past him. Sure wish he'd get in that glorified golf cart of his and zip on over to the shuffleboard court with the rest of the old, sun ravaged geezers in Arizona instead of wanting to run the country.

Typical mean-spirited, personal attack by an obvious liberal. You just can't stick to the real, serious issues that face this country. God help us all.

Shoot, 1.6 million dollar homes aren't really considered all that outrageous these days. That won't get you much in DC, or NYC, or Chicago, or San Fran, or LA. Most people who live in those cities are far from rich and own condos that are in the $500k to $800k range. And, dork, McCain's 7 homes don't amount to the same value as Obama's million dollar home. You are frickin naive or challenged. I love also how we are now dinging people for going to Harvard or other good schools. Yes, let's get the dumbest candidates out there and the least academically accomplished, just so some Joe Schmoe on the street can feel validated and less stupid. Give me a break. America is assbackward when it comes to wanting Joe Schmoes leading them in terms of intelligence and accomplishment. I personally want the smartest people we have dealing with our complex and challenged economy and foreign affairs issues.

Yes! Vote for brains - vote for Obama!

  • Posted By: joywinsagain @ 09/21/2008 9:58:40 PM

Wow. Now I can totally make an informed decision about who I should vote for...ya know, cause cars REALLY matter in a campaign. I realize Newsweek is trying to make Obama look like he's "in touch with the Ameican people". It doesn't really work. The great thing about America is that anyone who wants to work hard can get rich, and you are FREE to spend your money any way you want, including being the owner of 13 cars . That is what the American Dream is about. I'm glad I cancelled my subscription to Newsweek. Our dog was the only one who used it, and he's finally house broken.

I think it's hilarious that people on this thread keep saying McCain worked hard for his money. Hello? He married this money. Don't people know his wife is an heiress to hundreds of millions of dollars? I understand he had to go through quite a few ladies (while he was still married) to find one rich enough to bankroll him.

This is the only problem with this country, We are all to busy wanting what others have. The day we start looking at what this country NEEDS is the day this country can heal. The day WE THE PEOPLE stop living thru others life this country will get better. Live thru your eyes and what you can afford and WE THE PEOPLE would not be investing tax dollars in wall street. PS. ALL THE WAY McCAIN you can do it.

    • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/21/2008 8:28:54 PM

IT is McCain's laize faire approach that caused this problem. You can't expect someone who is causing something to fix it also.

        Amen! Well said!

  • Posted By: ukenuke @ 09/21/2008 8:37:47 PM

This is a fantastic article. What it doesn't mention is that the McCain's also own their own JET AIRCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you f#@'n believe it?

    • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 11:23:25 PM

...and yet he claims to be "just an average Joe".

  • Posted By: Givemeabreak @ 09/21/2008 8:40:16 PM

One more thought for you in Obamaland.
While I'm sure you won't fail to remember J. McCain's age as you blast him for being so old, senile, blah, blah, you do seem to be forgetting the age difference when it suits your purposes.
When Obama's 70-some and has been in politics a few more decades, I wonder how wealthy he'll be then?
You can only see your savior as an "average guy" because you want to see him that way. He's exactly like his colleagues - on his way to being very powerful and very wealthy. He's just a few decades behind his peers (both Democratic and Republican). Convenient for him (in this article) to be so young and just starting his career. He'll downplay that same inexperience when campaigning, however.

Incidentally, I wonder if we'd be having the same conversation if Hillary were the candidate? She and Bill are just absolutely LOADED. I bet they don't have just one car, or one house. Wouldn't have been relevant to the Democrats if she was running, though. You'd focus on how "average" she was in any other convenient way.

    • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 11:21:43 PM

Thanks for pointing out how OLD he is and how close Sarah Palin would be to being President of the United States....think about that. We're damned if he lives (voted with Bush 90% of the time to get us into this MESS!) and damned if he were to die...talk about putting someone with no experience except that in revenge firings - even back to her mayoral days. Wonder what kind of revenge she could get if she were POTUS!

You know the difference between BUSH and McCAIN?........Lipstick!

  • Posted By: BooTx @ 09/21/2008 11:14:41 PM

All of the McCains' cars and homes are not a reward for "success". They are a reward for Cindy's inheritance. I don't know who worked hard for the reward, but it wasn't them. Tell that to Carol, McCain's first wife who he divorced in his midlife crisis, to marry Cindy, who was then 25. Republicans preach family values, but only Democrats are expected to live up to them.

Good Evening fellow Americans. I thought I would bounce in and give you a site to look at that gives the spenditures of all the Presidents from 1950 forward. It gives you eye opening facts and why we need to get RID of the REPUBLICANS. There is plenty of fault here for the Demo's to take also. Just look at this site if you have time. Mean while every one have a safe and terrific week.

since when is wikipedia a valid source of information. This is what I'm talking about. Liberal morons will believe anything they read regardless of where it came from. Just like Al Gore and his rediculous nobel prize for global warming. It's like this country "last four years of a democratic congress" has been subjected to the never ending parade of stupid, ding ding.

    • Posted By: southern builder @ 09/21/2008 10:05:09 PM

Huh? I'm a registered democrat. Walton county ,Florida; you remember, where 60 of 67 counties voted for Bush in 2000 but we pretended Gore won. ( I'm still embarressed about that!) Anyway, How can you diss the republiCONS when we have been worse for the last decade and a half? I believe in freedom of speech. Equal rights for women and minorities. etc..... "We" have said freedom of speech if you agree with me. Freedom FROM religion. Rights for gays (I'm cool with that) , but not for straights (got a problem there). ETC., .... I don't like the war but we've lost more Americans in the last 7 weeks on our highways than we have in 7 years of the war. How can we say we support freedoms here, but we oppose them in Iraq ? What happened to my party? We were the party of progress. Now w're the party of finger pointing when we are guilty many times over of everything we accuse the repuplicons of. You think we should get rid of them... i think we should recognise the harsh truth. They hold the moral high ground! And I'm frightened. What happened to us? When we need a Roosevelt, a Truman, a Jack Kennedy, We have to choose between Clinton II or Obama? God help us all!

It might be important to point out that John and Cindy McCain have several children of driving age, while Michelle and Barack Obama have none. Just a thought.

    • Posted By: evrm4 @ 09/21/2008 10:20:30 PM

And just a distraction. Just how many kids do John and Cindy McCain have that warrants the ownership of 13 vehicles?!?! The large number of cars is more tied to the large number of residences that the McCains own, at least 7 at last count.

      • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 11:10:21 PM

EXACTLY! Incredibly high number of residences = incredibly high numbers of cars + no economic sense and a chance at being President = disaster for our country.

      • Posted By: Givemeabreak @ 09/21/2008 10:46:04 PM

Talk about distractions! What, are you upset that we might take our eyes off the subject of how rich the McCains are?
The WHOLE TOPIC is a distraction, prompted by the desire to make Obama look like "one of us." - when he isn't any more like me than McCain is.

  • Posted By: BooTx @ 09/21/2008 11:08:47 PM

Well, McCain defines "rich" as an income of at least 5 million. Whay do you expect? He wants to do the same thing to health care that the Republicans (Saint Maverick himself included) have done to Wall Street and the mortgage market. I hope we're not stupid enough to let him do that just because his running mate hunts moose.

  • Posted By: bebepples @ 09/21/2008 9:53:02 PM

So, McCain has 13 cars - a bit excessive, but why should we begrudge his success? The Dems can play the class warfare game all they want - it won't work. A person is elitist, not based on what they own, but on what their view of the "common folk" is - and Barack certainly feels he is above us gun-toting religion "clingers". Anybody who has the "audacity" to write two autobiographies before he has accomplished anything is out of touch...

    • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 11:06:14 PM

Yes...and McCain thinks someone making $500k is "middle class". He's too stupid to be elitist. No wonder he was at the bottom of his class and has no grasp on economics or even the state of our country. You are right. Cars doesn't matter. Brains do.

It is nice to see mentioned all of the good works that the Repub candidates wife does in other parts of the world but HOW ABOUT HERE!!! If the us wasn't so busy selling arms to 3rd world nations meybe they wouldn't need so much help

  • Posted By: GATXER @ 09/21/2008 10:42:50 PM

I doubt anyone voting for Obama is so dumb to think Muti-Millionaire Obama and his wife who works only have 1 car. I would also like to know how you got DMV records from IL which doesnt even have a DMV it the SOS and it a crime to release that kind of info to ANYONE. Obama got rid of his 300 because........the US SS started driving him around. I knew NBC was in the tank for Obama....now Newsweek......Im voting for Obama....which any sane person would do.....but you just turned Newsweek into a joke.

  • Posted By: sandyj1 @ 09/21/2008 5:05:05 PM

This is getting quite ridiculous...now we are tallying cars...in a presidential race....and we wonder what is becoming of American values. Man, this gets sicker and sicker...

    • Posted By: evitasg @ 09/21/2008 10:32:05 PM

Indeed. Love how it's about the issues important to the American people.

  • Posted By: speedingupoctave @ 09/21/2008 10:29:03 PM

big deal. my family has 4 vehicles sitting in the yard right now, with 3 of us driving. there is nothing wrong with owning many cars and it shouldnt even be brought up. it doesnt matter.
