BTW, McCain has never been anywhere near in touch with average Americans. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, as the son of a Navy Admiral. He never had to achieve anything on his own in those early years, as his daddy got him into the Naval Academy and the War College.

Hey this article discusses all the expensive and/or massive cars the McCain's have verses Obama's one car. How about telliing me how many massive homes the McCains have. As far as I know Obama only has one in Chicago.

    • Posted By: Givemeabreak @ 09/21/2008 8:06:30 PM

Yep, only ONE massive home in Chicago - that he got in a shady deal involving a very shady friend.
That's surely the kind of proof we needed of the CHANGE that's going to come from this different kind of politician!
Thank heavens he only has one 1.65 million dollar house - why he's a regular guy just like you and me!
If you have one house worth that much or 7 houses, it's all the same - very rich guys running for a very big job.
Only someone who isn't paying attention would think that Obama can "relate" to the average guy. Unless the average guy went to Harvard, rubs shoulders with crooks, and lives in big houses.

Don't forget the private jet the McCains own!

  • Posted By: lisaooo @ 09/21/2008 8:04:53 PM

I think this is less alarming than the fact MS. BUD wore an outfit and jewelry on the first night of the convention that was valued at over $300,000. The current First Lady showed more restraint and taste, especially in these tough economic times for average Americans, by wearing just $10,000 worth.

I DON'T want a president who can afford 13 vehicles! A person like that cannot relate to the working public. NO way, no how!

    • Posted By: Givemeabreak @ 09/21/2008 7:59:43 PM

You idiot - they ALL can afford 13 vehicles.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I burst the delusional bubble of the Democratic party being the "working man's party?" Let me clue you in, the Dems are as rich (or richer) than the Republicans.
If you can't vote for someone that wealthy, you'd better stay home.
Incidentally, I don't want to ever vote for someone who ISN"T financially successful. If he can't get his own family ahead of the average, how is he going to be smart enough to get this country ahead of the others? Think about it for a minute, if you can get past your envy.

really? Ford had no problem hiring Mulally who had a Lexus on order at the time he took the job as CEO?

Jay Leno's not running for President or pretending to be an "average Joe". Maybe he should run though.

you are being scammed. read what i wrote about congressional perks. free cars gas insurance. do you get these perks. also look at what they buy ob leased a escalade and leased 4 acuras on your dime.does that make you happy. youd think they would be driving around in electric cars and fuel cell cars. the democrats have been scamming america for the last 40 yrs about solar, wind, global warming. heres one you wont believe on martas vineyard where all the ivy league elitist democrats live. a man proposed to buy one end of the island and harness the wind for power. would supply all the power to the island and some people off shore. do you want to no the two senators that got it shutdown by telling the epa. kerry the ketsup man and almost dead kennedy. want to know there excuse" it would look ugly. dont be a obobot actuall troll the internet for truthful facts notwacky spin

  • Posted By: clarinetmama @ 09/21/2008 7:53:53 PM

He may have thirteen cars, but aside from the class Willys he owns there certainly isn't anything very interesting about any of them. Dang, if I had his money I'd order up something really cool like a Tesla or a Volt. I can just envision him driving in Phoenix all filled with road rage shaking his fists at the young whipper-snappers whizzing past. John, do us all a favor and take up some old fart hobby like shuffleboard or checkers and drive around in your little retirement "golf-cart" like all the other sun-ravaged Arizonans.

I think if you look closely; the Toyota has more American parts than the Cadillac. But the real point/s is what are they doing to fix the problem ? The problem is not too little gosoline but too much use. If America could average 25 MPG we would not purchase ANY foerign gasoline. But what you want but make sure it gets 25 MPG or better. Walk to the corner store or ride a bike... Drive with two or more in the vehicle. To hell with Detroit unless they start building ( right now today ) cars and trucks that get over 25 MPG. The biggest problem Detroit has is Labor Unions while the second is building what we need.

...and this matters why? I thought the publicity this election received had reached rock bottom, but I see they've dug themselves a deeper hole. I don't care WHAT they drive, eat, breathe....I care WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO FOR THIS COUNTRY. Pleasepleaseplease, journalists, candidates, advisors, sponsors...DROP THE RIDICULOUS ARTICLES, DROP THE RIDICULOUS INSULTS AND FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES YOU WILL PROVIDE THIS WONDERFUL COUNTRY. I DON'T CARE WHAT OBAMA DID WHEN, NOR WHAT MCCAIN DID WHEN...AND IT'S REALLY A TURN OFF WHEN EACH CANDIDATE PAYS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS INSULTING THE OTHER CANDIDATE. Here's a lil' secret from your average American: DROP the negative campaigning and let us know how you'll better America. THE CANDIDATE THAT DOES THAT...WINS!

Nice Post, this is what more people should be writing about! This sick and twisted game by ALL THE MEDIA outlets to turn this thing into a god damned Jerry Springer show! Oh that's right us average hillbilly trailer trash American has no brain and therefore must be spoon fed this crap on the 24/7 media buffet line.

      • Posted By: abbychloe @ 09/21/2008 7:50:18 PM

Thanks, btorched...isn't it funny that we average American hillbillies really DO GET IT, HUH? I may not be a scholar but I do have common sense...Let's hope they both get back to basics...and soon.

Please tell me exactly what Obama has been doing all his life. Evidently his father from Africa met his American mother somehow and he was born in Hawaii. Then he must have been out of the country most of the time he was growing up and was taught part of the time in muslim schools. Then he went to Harvard. Not sure what his grades were. Then he was a "community organizer", whatever that is. What did he accomplish? Then he was briefly in the Illinois legislature. Nothing has ever been said that he did there. Then most recently he has been in the Senate almost 6 years, but evidently he was campaigning for president most of that time, since nothing can be pointed to that he has done there.

What is the matter with the news media? Do you idiots think this is worthwhile news or of any interest??? You should be ashamed writing this trash. Who cares who drives what.

  • Posted By: likeIseeit @ 09/21/2008 3:17:33 PM

How freaking petty!!! Perhaps we should check in to how many TV's each candidate owns too. Or maybe even go to there houses and see how many pairs of shoes or suits or dresses their wives have. Where will it stop with you liberal idiots. Yes, I said idiots. What difference does it make what kind of or how many vehicles they own? This is really grasping at straws!

    • Posted By: ukenuke @ 09/21/2008 7:42:41 PM

If the situation were reversed, (e.g., John Kerry), this article wouldn't be considered "petty" by the wingnuts and whackadoodles. It would be considered essential reading. Anyway, we don't begrudge John McCain for doing well. It was hard work dumping his crippled wife for a pill-popping beer heiress.

  • Posted By: carl6352 @ 09/21/2008 7:39:43 PM

once again you tell half truths. those cheep cars he bought. but when he got to the senate and congress's rediculous perks which msm or newsweek will not report at taxpayeres expense they get lease cars. he got a caddy escalade and accuras for his crew. he also gets free gas, goverment insurance. now mcains wife who is absolutely rich. they buy there cars not the taxpayers. please in the future if you want to do a hatchet job! make sure its only to bumb obots!

You have got to be kidding me. There are a lot of GM.s and Ford's made in Canada and Mexico now. Honda Accord's and a lot of Lexus's are made in America too. Stop trying to promote one side of the presidency campaign and do you job as an unbiased news reporter. No wonder people would rather listen to the Colbert report than your news.

    • Posted By: ukenuke @ 09/21/2008 7:38:47 PM

Accords and Lexus's are made in America. And the profits go to.... JAPAN. Dumba$$.

I was going to comment about wasting my time, and asking what this article really has to do with election issues - but I see I have already been beaten to it. So i'll just suggest that future stories of this type should be labeled clearly as entertainment and/or gossip.

  • Posted By: myopinionhere @ 09/21/2008 7:32:50 PM

Obama may be a millionaire but Ms Bud, Cindi McCain, is a BILLIONAIRE. I shudder at the thought of her being first lady, or as McCain himself might call her, if the past is any indication of the future, the first c*nt. No way, no how, no McCain/Palain.

  • Posted By: psullivanll @ 09/21/2008 7:30:57 PM

I can't believe I took the time to read this stupid article. I'll never get those precious minutes back.

  • Posted By: Mayusan @ 09/21/2008 5:39:36 PM

The neighbor across the street has 4 people (legally) allowed to drive, and they have 2 SUVs, 1 pickup, 3 cars, 2 4-wheelers and 2 Harley Davidsons. That's 10 modes of transportation.

I myself have 3 cars at my house. One is an SUV, one is a car, and one is my brother's car.

One of my good friends has a car, a motorcycle and 2 scooters.

    So what?

McCain and his family worked their butts off to get where they are. Cindy McCain's parents came from nothing and now have an empire.

Who cares how many houses or cars they have? They've earned it... and they give back. Cindy is a known humanitarian long before McCain became a runner for the presidency. That's how she ended up adopting one of her children. she was at Mother Teresa's orphanage when she met 2 girls that needed medical treatment. She brought them both to the US for treatment, helped one get adopted, and adopted the other little girl with John.

Unlike Obama sitting in his million dollar mansion procured with help from an indited slumlord while his half brother lives in a hut in Kenya on less money than a street peddler makes.

    • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 5:50:11 PM

You want to make it persoanl - than give BOTH sides of the story. Cindy McCain is a saint....who picked a MARRIED MAN up in a bar and tore up a family. Talk about good 'Ole republican values - they expect them from everyone but themselves. Then....Mr McCain - who "earned" everything he got........he left his wife an MARRIED into money. Now he cant even remember how much he has...or how many houses...or how much someone makes to be considered "middle class" (it's NOT $500,000!). He also can't seem to remember what he read in the paper yesterday or the day before - because he thinks the economy is fundamentally sound. Exactly what is "sound" about it?

Don't even get me started on Palin - who got married pregnant...and wouldn't teach safe sex to her 17-year old daughter - who's now pregnant...and she STILL doesn't believe in teaching anything but abstinence. Honey - YOU couldn't keep your legs together and neither could your daughter - so why do you think all other Americans can and should. I'm not digging her for getting pregnant or her daughter either. But there the Repubs go again expecting different values and behavior from everyone else but themselves. Her poor daughter would probably NOT be pregnant if her mother was at least smart enough to have "a little talk" with her.

Next we can talk about the LIES that she "said NO to a bridge to nowhere" - when it is publicly documented that she lobbied for the damn bridge herself. Made a good speech though. Too bad most of it was pure fiction.

      • Posted By: MO-Momma @ 09/21/2008 6:14:47 PM

Tell it like it IS, not how they WANT it to be. There's a difference. Cheers my liberal friend, and kudos on your well thought out posts. I seriously doubt any of it will sink in, ever. Some people are just too blind, and too small minded to realize what's been going on before their very eyes. And the ones that DO see, yet still support? They must be extremely sick, misguided individuals, and I doubt years of therapy could alter intelligence!

        • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 7:27:17 PM

Thanks for the kudos - bring as many people to the polls with you as you can! I cannot even believe this race is a close one. I'm in WI and we're a swing state. I'm on the phones and knocking doors. Anyone that wants to can help the swing states on line from home barackobama.com (I mean with help, not donations, but they can do that too.) We're both laid off here, so in-between looking for jobs - we're trying to secure something better for the next 4-8 years (and 2 Supreme Court appointments). Focus on the swing states though. The Red states are gonna stay red at this point - and the blue states are already there - so help out in any way you can to reach out to people in a state that's tied up and "up for grabs".

      • Posted By: revamp3 @ 09/21/2008 5:54:40 PM

Oh by the way, the speech was written by Bush's speech writer even BEFORE Palin was nominated... yep, they're real mavericks alright....

        • Posted By: Mayusan @ 09/21/2008 6:05:09 PM

The thing about that friend, John's marriage was failing. It was the typical thing that happens to people who come home from war and try to make a new life for themselves. Sometimes it doesn't work and the old life doesn't fit into the new. No one is saying they're saints, but they've done MORE for this country and humanitarian efforts than Obama has done.

Tell me a few things Obama has done. People keep asking and the only thing his supporters can say is he's black. Wow, major humanitarian there.

As for being misinformed... wow you must only listen to the nuts on the failing Air America because, by her own admission, she voted for the bridge until they came up with a new plan, decided to pump it up with pork barrel costs. When she got the new plans... saw the cost... she said "hell no".

And the end result... SHE VOTED IT DOWN. She stopped it. Whether she was for or against it, who cares... she's the one who stopped it while her democrat friends wanted to push it forward.

And if you want to go there, fine. Can you tell me why Obama voted to RAISE the taxes of families starting at an annual salary of $35,000 which is considered lower-middle to middle class when he said that was something he would not do, even though his running mate says it's patriotic to pay more taxes?

          • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 6:48:29 PM

I don't argue at all that John is a hero and paid a price. That doesn't mean he should be President or even that he has good judgement. We are already WELL aware that he does not have a good memory or a good grasp of the economy.

Yes, Cindy McCain has, without a doubt been a wonderful humanitarian. It's nice that her father's hard work has left her with so much money that she has funds to do so. Still it's true that many people with those vast funds still wouldn't give to those in need - so kudo's to her for that. ....People with FUNDS...oh yeah, that reminds me - rich people: You have also misquoted Senator Biden - who said it is the patriotic duty of those making more to pay more taxes. (Subtle difference there, but middle class Americans will no doubt appreciate the difference.)

As far as Obama's humanitarian efforts, I would consider graduating from Harvard as the President of the Harvard Law review and skipping Wall Street to head up to the hardest hit poorest parts of Chicago, roll up his sleeves - dig in and make a difference in people's lives to be a humanitarian effort and even a personal sacrifice of income.

Who is going to restore the ECONOMY? I'm guessing the guy who understands the economy is in a crisis. Who's going to get us out of Iraq, where we're spending billions that we HAVE BORROWED to spend? I'm guessing the guy who voted not to go over there in the first place and also the guy with a plan to get out of there. I don't think it would be the guy who thinks we should be there for 15 years. Who's got the right plan to KEEP JOBS in America? Who's tired of Exxon having RECORD PROFITS while we pay through the nose at the pump - and says we're done giving companies who make that much money TAX BREAKS? Who's going to give THOSE taxes back to the American people by giving breaks to 95% of all Americans? Who's plan ELIMINATES taxes for seniors making under $50K?

Almost EVERYONE is in agreement that Bush GOT US in this mess - and we're happy to get him out.....so let's not vote with the guy who VOTED WITH BUSH 90% of the time and HELPED get us in this mess. Who's going to clean up Washington and it's lobbyists? I'm guessing NOT the guy who has so many lobbyists on his campaign staff. Wouldn't that be a stab in the back?

Iraq? We shouldn't even BE in Iraq anyway - so if more politicians had VOTED against the war as Obama did - - we wouldn't be in this incredible mess to begin with. (Which is NOT only killing our soldiers, but draining the American economy and making us the laughing stock of the entire world.)

Obama's platform is clearly spelled out on barackobama.com . Maybe it would be enlightening. There is no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama should be the next President of the United States and is the one who can lead us out of this war and economic disaster.

      • Posted By: revamp3 @ 09/21/2008 5:52:58 PM

        Well said. I agree 100%

    • Posted By: revamp3 @ 09/21/2008 5:50:24 PM

Seriously, you were doing fine until the "Unlike Obama in his million dollar mansion" bit... You are so misinformed... Obama, my friend, can actually tell you off the top of his head HOW MANY HOMES HE OWNS!

      • Posted By: Mayusan @ 09/21/2008 6:07:51 PM

        How am I misinformed?

        1. he has a mansion that is 1.5 mil.
        2. he helped secure that property through Slumlord Rezko
        3. he admits this because he said that working with Rezko "may have been a lapse in judgement"
        4. how many humanitarian efforts has he made in the last 20 some years? He didn't even go to Iraq until he became the main Presidential candidate for the dems.

        Where's my misinformation?

        • Posted By: Toujours @ 09/21/2008 7:16:25 PM

Not true. Obama has been to Iraq a few times before his high-profile trip this year.

Cindy McCain has done a lot of humanitarian work, and that's admirable. Except for her stealing from them, of course. But how does that make McCain a better candidate? Come on.
