Oh wow and this passes for journalism these days. Let me guess the next great breaking story will be that he puts gas in the Cadillac. I know they can write a story with all of the obligatory hand wringing about campaigns not talking about the issues. They can pontificate about the lack of substance in the candidates statements and commercials. I do believe with these two writers if you put them together you might have a combined IQ of 100.

I realize I'm splitting hairs and perhaps looking past the point of the article, but most Honda sedans sold in North America are actually made in Ohio or Alabama. A VW plant is opening in Tennessee soon (although his convertible was probably made in Portugal or Mexico), and the Prius will soon be made in Mississippi as well. Having that many cars is not such a shock with all of the homes they own: I'm guessing that they prefer to have cars based out of their homes rather than ship them all over the place.

Still, it seems a bit gluttonous.

Well maybe most of you who disagree with Bush being voted in twice should have voted to make a difference, obviously most of the country knows who the right candidates are b/c they are the ones voted in. As far as McCain and all his vehicles...you act like they all cost over $50,000...i mean hello, he has a honda, toyota, volkswagon and a jeep...big money vehicles there. Also, you say that he can't be compared to average American families...I mean what makes and American family average...everyone in this country pays for a mortgage, buys groceries, buys gas for their vehicle, pays utility bills, has credit cards...etc. I could continue, so we all have the same affairs, so no reason to say why anyone couldn't compare. Obama, by the way just bought his hybrid vehicle, his Chrysler 300C most likely cost as much as McCain's Cadillac CTS...in my opinion each of them by what the article says only has one vehicle.

uummm.....the article clearly says McCain has 13.

Yes, McCain is an "average American" - I'm sure when McCain's chef in one of his 7 houses buys the groceries they are worried about a budget like the rest of us. I'm sure when McCain's personal accountant pays the mortgage ON HIS SEVEN HOUSES - he wonders how he will be able to pay it next month. If McCain can't remember how many houses he has - do you think he is aware of what the UTILITY BILLS are for ANY OF THEM? Come on - you CAN'T be serious that you think he knows what it's like to be hurting for cash, laid off or struggling to fill your tank?!

Dude, some people are SO out of touch it's astonishing. I bet GAG believes every word of it too. Sick! GAAAAG me, puhlease. What crap.

I can't believe some of you would call this petty, LOL. This is a perfect example of the deceit being perpetuated by the McSame clan. This is quite funny actually. All the talk McSame has made of Obama being an elitist seems to be coming back to him. GOOD. An elitist doesn't own just one house, juts one car dummies. An elitist will own several houses and cars, way more than they would ever need. The spirit of an elitist is to posess, posess, posess, and have more, and better, things than their neighbor. This is clear evidence McSame is an elitist, and is not the good 'ol regular joe he''d trying to convince swing votes he is. Good job NW, keep exposing these fools for what they are! McSame is not an 'Everyman". Look around people, how many cars do YOU own, your neighbors? How many houses do you get to choose to live in? Some people don't even hav one, but McSame has more than he can count? GET REAL people, wake up and smell the coffee. I used to have confidence American's were intelligent, and would do the right thing. I'm not so sure anymore. As the right wing fundies grow stronger, it tells me there must have been a missing link in their evolution. May Mother Nature eventually weed these needless creatures out before they do any more damage....

When the Rethuglicans refer to Obama as an elitist it is just code for "uppity n****r". Obama living in a million dollar home is way worse than not even knowing how many homes you have. Obama sharing one vehicle with his wife is way worse than having 13 cars. How dare he?

I agree with Mayusan. Who cares.

  • Posted By: revamp3 @ 09/21/2008 5:31:06 PM

"Once 50 cent's preferred car" Are you serious? How low of you to imply that, what does 50 cent have to do with Obama? That they're both black? Is that why you're making that lame association? If Obama was a white Joe Smith would you have made your stupid comparison? NO. What a joke of an article... let's focus on the issues and not racially motivated idiotic comments that only magnify your inability to be a true journalist.

    • Posted By: pdogma @ 09/21/2008 5:51:35 PM

how about this one (in regards to 50 cent). in the name of equal time and from the era that threatens to bring forth the fairness doctrine, why doesn't Newsweek state - "McCain, driving his GM SUV - same one that Randy Travis drives" (along with other well known white entertainers). how's that for identity politics?

You know what really amazes me is that Newsweek and most of the MSM are ignoring something else that McCain has that Obama doesn't.

McCain has a pair and they are made of American Steel, Obama doesn't have any.
Will never grow any and if he did have a pair, they would be Code Pink-PINK.

i feel this election is STUPID vs STUPIDER regarding the american people and your side's winning

    • Posted By: revamp3 @ 09/21/2008 5:33:35 PM

You're everything that's wrong with America. You're the stupidity that decided voting for Bush twice was a good idea. Go Texas!

  • Posted By: An Average Joe @ 09/21/2008 5:32:52 PM

How can a man who has so many houses that he can't even remember how many there are (7 HOUSES - I don't have ANY trouble remembering that I have 1) and 13 CARS (14 if you count Cindy's Lexus) and who thinks the "American economy is fundamentally sound" and that the middle class is anyone who earns less than $500K...be AT ALL in-touch with the American people and what they need. How could he possibly know what they're going through?!! If anyone is "Elite" it is Mr. 7 houses and 13-14 cars feeling sorry for anyone making under $500K. He not only lives in a different would - he lives in a different universe than the rest of us who are truly "Average Joe's". He's rich (no problem with that - just don't pretend you aren't), he's uniformed (helloooooo - the economy and the stockmarket (and the banks and half the mortgages) are TANKING.) He's OUT OF TOUCH and out of his mind on all things economic. NO WAY should this guy be our next President - ESPECIALLY when the ECONOMY is in the crisis that it is and he doesn't know a thing about finances. How's he going to balance a budget? How's he going to fix the economy? He hasn't a clue. Maybe he'll ask one of the many LOBBYISTS on his staff to fix things. (Oh yeah - he's also going to CLEAN-UP the lobbyist situation in DC by hiring them into his campaign. At this rate, he'll probably promote them right to cabinet positions while he's at it.) It is absolutely ridiculous that this man is even CLOSE to winning this election. Voting 90% of the time WITH BUSH - (and HE'S supposed to get us OUT of the mess Bush got us in to? - Yeah right.) Why is this race even CLOSE?! (But then again...we are the people who voted Bush BACK into the White House, even though it was already announced that there never were any WMD's and he'd lead us into a war under false pretenses....so - I guess ANYTHING is possible.) I hope more Americans have common sense this time around.

what a crock that anyone owuld spend time looking at this. How many people drive in the McCain family vs Obama family. They run a rnach and have several "old" cars. I have 4 and am flat broke - all american made and paid for. does thta say something about me? Hell no and it says nothing about either presidential candidate. Lets discuss issues not trash

only GOD can help us now..i just want to scream..why do repuglicans debate using not the actual argument but using the "what if" and what was done "before" conveniently ignoring any change, instead of using thee actual present argument..i'm trying to hold back from describing them in non nasty terms, but knowing repugs, they will spin the refrain into a bad thing..

  • Posted By: Sconan56 @ 09/21/2008 3:47:10 PM

rebazhin, nohippiesallowed and the like all probably fall into the same category so of course they are going to cry foul. Either that or they are paid trolls or maybe just ignorant enough to swallow neo-con B.S.??? Which makes them a special kind of ignorant to vote against their own best interest's...Oh and BTW nohippiesallowed, I'd rather be a Hippie than a Brown shirt, Jackbooted redneck Nazi....

    • Posted By: iinb @ 09/21/2008 5:06:30 PM

right on; i'm with you but no need for name calling eh..that's a repuglican tactic when logic doesn't work..we should hand them stix/stones too

Oh Please...Is everyone still living in the fifties when "American" made cars were really American made and "Imports" were really imported? Honda's footprint is just as American-made now as GM. American employees, American parts, American sales. So, according to some comments, McCain is criticized for not "supporting the American Auto Worker", and Obama is the "true patriot" and does. Well, if Obama owns one Ford (a remarkable and unlikely fact) how does he support the auto worker more than McCain does when McCain has purchased 13 times as many vehicles, which I may add are ALL American-manufactured cars. It seems to me he supports them 13x as much. We could criticize him for living excessively, but hey, at least he's put his money into a struggling part of the economy.

How many yachts and airplanes do each of them own? I'll bet Obama doesn't have to refer that question to his servants.

    • Posted By: iinb @ 09/21/2008 5:01:21 PM

lol...thanx, that was funny..i need a few laffs when i see how stoopid american comments are (your's excluded) when it comes to partisan b.s.

  • Posted By: valadezaj @ 09/21/2008 4:58:20 PM

I don't have any cars! So I guess I should be president eh? LOL

  • Posted By: Calinica @ 09/21/2008 4:57:45 PM

That's the big difference between both of them! Right there.......

  • Posted By: pdogma @ 09/21/2008 4:57:39 PM

anyone thinking that McCain is over the top with his cars is stupid. He is old, right? He has several kids that I believe are driving age. that would make some sense about the number of cars they have. Obama is younger - has a wife and two small kids. don't let the liberal rag Newsweek try to shape yet another debate about another topic - helping Obama score points.
