Forget whether the cars are foreign made or not. If you (McCain)can afford 13 cars, you cannot speak to me who has a hard time affording one about the effects of the economy (especially if you voted to keep policies in place that contributed to this economic mess). Period!

yes...fascinating...cars they drive....how about the fact the lack of regulation pushed by the republican economic policies over the past decades and finally enacted less than 2 yrs ago when they shredded the regulatory measures placed there by FDR have caused this flop on wall street. Wake up folks...2yrs of not having regulations that resulted from the 30's depression and we're back in the same situation.

I'm a registered republican and this year I will be voting for Senator Obama. I'm pro 2nd amendment rights and believe civil unions is the furthest gay couples should get recognized, but folks these are small issues compared to whether or not you'll have a job tomorrow or if you're pensions and retirement savings will live through this. Stop gettin lead astray by the media and political campaigns and start paying attention to the issues that really will make a difference in you lives. If abortion is a key issue and you can't let it go then stop being hypocrits and realize that the Bible doesn't give any man/woman the right to take another life in any manner...this includes death row and sending our sons and daughters into harms way to kill other human beings....we don't have the authority to take life in any instances.....turn the other cheek and work harder to lead by example and win folks over with good deeds. Help the sick and poor......and we can start in this country first in that department.

Thank you so much for your comment.
For all the talk of what the Bible says, so many seem to forget that helping the poor and weak is one of the major themes, mentioned hundreds and hundreds of times compared to the three or so verses mentioning homosexuality, and the numerous verses that give little value to the unborn (Numbers 5, for one, which instructs priests to administer abortificants to unfaithful wives.)

"What you do to the least of men, you do also unto me."

I am so happy that Keith Naughton and Hilary Shenfeld are working so hard to define the candidates on the things that are important and defining. PS I have three cars. I'm three times more evil than Obama.

  • Posted By: Powerfade @ 09/22/2008 10:45:41 AM

Obama is just smoke and mirrors! Even according to the article, he traded in what was considered a gas guzzler for what he perceives as more votes! Just because someone has money and spends it does not make that person bad. Wait until Obama gets comfortable with his level of power and money and he too will try a to keep up with the jet set. If you need proof just look at his new McMansion he just aquired and HOW! In any event I do not trust a newbie. He needs to swim in the pond awhile before he trys swimming in the ocean...even Nemo figured that out!

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:29:28 PM

He traded it in to be more consistent with his positions.
Are you seriously suggesting that if he hadn't traded it in, you wouldn't be complaining that he's a hypocrite?

Trivlaka, my online nic has nothing to do with the klan and i do not lie. Just because someone is from the south does not make them agreeable with the klan or make them prejudice. If you werent such an bigot you would know that. What part of Russia do you come from comrade? You must be Russian based on your online nic, right??? And for those of you who dont think being a Patriot is important, go find a country of your choosing to live in where patriotism isn't important. Being a Patriot doesn't just mean wrapping yourself in the flag. It also means caring about your country and the people in it. For those of you who don't understand that, I am sorry for you. If you think for one moment Obama gives a flying crap about this country, you are dead wrong. All he cares about is getting to be President. He talks the talk but he can't walk the walk.

      WELL SAID!!!

      • Posted By: gretch8501 @ 09/22/2008 6:29:22 PM

what connotation? Can a person put together two words, without someone making judgments about who they are. Lighten up

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:22:09 PM

"Caring about the people in it."
Not just the rich people. Not just the people who have health insurance.
      People.

WHy don't you and yours practice what your poreach, rather than just spouting what you think sounds good. There is no substance to your mindest.

And if you are from the south,. you must certainly be aware of the loaded connotations in the word "Southern Knight.." What's next? Calling yourself Grand Dragon because you have an interest in mythology?.

  • Posted By: suthrnknight @ 09/22/2008 10:32:38 AM

Oh and for the record, I spent 21 years in the military of which 1 year was spent in Vietnam. I am retired and fighting every day for the benefits Congress wants to take away from us.

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:24:25 PM

Then you better nor be voting for McCain, who consistently gets the lowest rating on veteran's issues.

  • Posted By: listgirl @ 09/22/2008 10:31:17 AM

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight ...

    * If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

    * Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

    * If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

    * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

*Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive and first in line behind a man in his eighth decade.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a true Christian.

    * If you teach responsible, age-appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

    * If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

    * If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

    O.K. -- much clearer now.

      Don't forget: 1 jet.

    • Posted By: jnlberry11 @ 09/22/2008 5:54:19 PM

Are you going to limit the number of kids I can have too?

  • Posted By: davec123 @ 09/22/2008 10:02:11 AM

So what, the man owns 13 cars. Have you heard of an auto collector? I guess if Jay Leno were to run for public office, he'd be slammed by owning a few forgeign made cars in his collection too! By the way, there are at least 4 Honda plants in the US, Nissan has a few, and I am sure Toyota does too. As for the VW, they are made in Mexico (will probably have a plant in the US some day) and have you heard of NAFTA???!!

    • Posted By: friendly democrat @ 09/22/2008 10:22:26 AM

no,, the point is they are labeling a guy that was born a poor black man with 1 house and 1 car as the elitist..thats why its brought up...obama is intelligent and our ignorant culture mistakes intelligence with elitism...

      • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/22/2008 3:38:16 PM

Obama is an IDIOT. He wants to tax the HARD WORKING and INTELLIGENT rich and give it to those who are not as smart, not as hard working!

He's a socialist who is in favor of more welfare and government hand outs. PEOPLE DON'T DESERVE FREE HEALTH INSURANCE. If you can afford it you deserve it, if not you don't.

The rich pay 70% of the income taxes now PLUS with free health insurance people live longer and that means SOCIAL SECURITY BLOWS UP sooner rather than later. TOTAL DISASTER!!!

Think about it dumb A$$ Democrats!

        • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:17:55 PM

You are a horrible, selfish person who is blindsided by GOP talking points. Upset because people live longer with health insurance? Despicable!
Don't you remember Bush and his "uniquely American" comment to the woman who worked 3 jobs just to get by? Despite how many times you repeat the lies, just because someone is not in the top few tiers of wealth does not mean they are lazy or uneducated. Nor does simply having health insurance mean you are still able to afford healthcare.

  • Posted By: justchuck @ 09/22/2008 9:37:07 AM

Obama doesn't sound too successful to me, LOL. How does a family of four get by with one car???

BTW-How did McCains bombing of the Vietnamese protect or ensure "OUR FREEDOM".

    • Posted By: realistin08 @ 09/22/2008 10:02:24 AM

      Public Transit.

      • Posted By: crazydriver156 @ 09/22/2008 10:14:30 AM

Public transit is extremely inefficient and does not coincide with the capitalist American system. Move to europe.

        • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:13:23 PM

Sorry, but 1 person per car is far more inefficient than several people riding in the same vehicle together.

  • Posted By: jake333 @ 09/22/2008 8:43:09 AM

The McCain's are living large because they earned it, or other family members earned it. If you don't have a nice life, it's because you haven't earned it. Stop complaining and go to work. Stop asking for a handout.

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:08:55 PM

You're right. People who struggle while working two or three jobs should get off their lazy butts, forgo sleep and work more, so they can keep the man at the top rich. That's what America is all about, right?

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/22/2008 4:46:50 PM

      Is a job a handout?

    • Posted By: calong @ 09/22/2008 10:02:12 AM

      Is Corporate Welfare a "handout"

    • Posted By: calong @ 09/22/2008 9:41:44 AM

Corporate Welfare = bailing out the rich! Hey Jake333 does it go both ways???

    • Posted By: calong @ 09/22/2008 9:35:51 AM

Hey jake333 would the bailout we will be paying for be considered a handout to get this economy back on track- Corporate Welfare doesn't count does it??? it only go one way for you.

  • Posted By: Ankhorite @ 09/22/2008 6:05:14 PM

McCain is a disgrace. Thirteen cars and three electric buggies... no wonder he can't understand people, especially rural people, who can no longer afford the gas it takes to get to work with a long commute. He's a fibber, a faker, and a phony. Bah!

  • Posted By: Matchpoint @ 09/22/2008 8:28:10 AM

You call this news? Are you kidding me? Who cares? Hummm? I wonder who you support?

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:02:09 PM

Obviously not Obama, who they dubiously tied to gangsta rapper 50 cent.

  • Posted By: veisalgia @ 09/22/2008 7:13:58 AM

    Comment: WOW,
Dirty little racist trick tying 50 Cent to Our Democratic Nominee.
Just so you know, 50 mostly drives a Rolls Royce Phantom, Bentley, Ferrari and Lamborghini machines. How could a 300 be his FAVORITE?
(Snoop Dog is the big 300 spokesman in the Rap world. Are we interchangeable?)

Harriet Myers drives a Chrysler 300
John Kerry drives one as well.
    Adam West (Batman) drives one.
Audrey Hepburn sold one on ebay.

Why use "Gangsta' 50 as a reference with Senator Obama?
What if the Article was about Myers and not Obama? Would you use that reference?

Just last week Fox news went straight from a story on Barack Obama to an OJ Simpson story . They made them share the screen for a few moments....... Disgusting.

This Artcle is by Keith Naughton and Hilary Shenfeld. I first looked up Mr Shenfields other Newsweek published "Gems" and found this one immediately:
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    FRIENDS LIKE THESE
Long before sex, lies and texting caused Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to plead guilty to two felonies and resign on Thursday, he and Barack Obama shared a warm man-hug before a huge Motown crowd.<< (edit)
    ---------------------------------------------------------

I'd bet you can guess where it went from there.

I am sooooo tired of this crap...You guys think the American people don't notice..

    TW

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 6:00:45 PM

Oh, I think they're pretty much banking that people will notice: the people who will avoid voting for a black man with any flimsy excuse possible.
"Don't vote for Obama! He thinks white women are hos!" Egad,

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/22/2008 4:48:32 PM

Audrey Hepburn died several years ago. When did eBay sell her car?

  • Posted By: MCJ123 @ 09/22/2008 5:48:38 AM

db17 you're wrong! As a percentage of income the wealthiest have myriad different ways to reduce their taxable income. Barack Obama often sites in his speeches the example of the percentage of income that Warren Buffet pays versus that of his secretary (about half). Of course in pure amount, he makes a lot more, but as a percentage of his income it's drastically less.

    • Posted By: dally2915 @ 09/22/2008 12:21:15 PM

Is that the same speech that he couldn't remember what he was saying or the one where he said the U.S. has 57 states?

      • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 5:58:43 PM

Unless you also want to discuss how McCain thinks Putin is "President of Germany" or doesn't know where SPain is, you should probably stop now.

      • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/22/2008 4:51:34 PM

A minor misspeak over months of primary speeches. Big deal. Obama's judgment and temperament are what count. He'll be a terrific president.

Bet he knows the founding fathers didn't write the Pledge of Allegiance.

  • Posted By: Dmitriy @ 09/22/2008 3:41:55 AM

I like German cars. They're good leases and don't break down like American cars. Less plastic and they don't have that fake leather that's called real. Like Ms. Palin.

tinatuna, what obama is proposing is transfer of wealth from the ones who make money to the ones who do not for whatever reason it is that they don't make the money...we are in the US and everyone has the opportunity to succeed....obama is a good example...It's that there are too many skeletons in his closet from rev erend jeremiah wright, to ayers and his fraudulent ways for money, not to mention the one who launched obama's political career a known terrorist....why do you think that obama's campaign is raising an unheard amount of money??? it is mostly foreign...from the middle east. Why do you think the big lenders are going down? it was bill clinton who is to blame for changes to the lending institutions back in the late 90's....It has been obama who has opposed 95 times to lower taxes...Taxes will go up for everyone....when obama proposes to send out monies to people as way of economic stimulus he says the money will come from big oil and the taxes imposed on them....newsflash these taxes will be passed on directly to us by way of gas increase in price-don't you get it????there is no such thing as free, someone has to pay...and eventually it will be us the common ordinary working (keyword) citizens.....

    • Posted By: jitterbug_perfume @ 09/22/2008 5:56:19 PM

This is the first war in American history that taxes have gone down. It is not normal. It is not just. If the people at the top want a war (from which they have profited greatly, btw) then they should be willing to pay for it.
Furthermore, trickle-down economics is a sham. The money always rises. People with little money always have to put it back into the system, into the hands of the people at the top, whether they're purchasing food, clothes, gas. Those with very high incomes put their money in offshore accounts, investments and often will move their entire corporations offshore after they've milked the American people as much as possible. See: Cheney/Haliburton.

Can we move on for once and stop raising issues where there is none? Senator McCain is rich by his marriage and probably by inheritance. He has been a US Senator for more than a quarter century. Can we reasonably expect this guy to drive once tiny Hundai and live in a one story condo?
Let's talk about his policies (or lack of policies where appropriate) and leave garde-robe, real estate and size of wallet alone ( or to the tabloids for that matter).

    • Posted By: ukenuke @ 09/22/2008 5:52:48 PM

Ok. How about campaign finance policy? McCain backed legislation requiring presidential candidates to pay the actual cost of flying on corporate jets. The law was intended to reduce lobbyist influence. But over a 7-month period, McCain's campaign gave itself an advantage by using a private jet owned by a company headed by his wife Cindy, and paying less than 1/2 of the normal cost. 13 cars. 7 houses. And 1 jet. This is the intersection of personal character and public policy, and it shows that McCain is a sneaky, lying hypocrite.
