Show me a gas friendly car that holds the Palin family comfortably. And I seriously doubt the Obama's all ride in one car. They are just looking at cars registered to the candidates... you know there are several cars chauffering the Obama's around... and I doubt they are hybrids!! Come on people... how many cars someone owns has little to do with how well they can run a country. We watch shows like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" , "Cribs", etc. and we are fascinated with the amount of wealth these people have. What hypocrites we are! Not to mention, I bet a few a you had one of Cindy McCain's beers this weekend!

McCain lives and loves a greedy lifestyle. Numerous homes, 13 vehicles, private jet, the best that money can buy. Cindy McCain is greedy to the point of depriving her stepsister any of her father's inheritance.

John 'Greed' McCain. John 'Hypocrite' McCain.

before obama entered politics he was a practitioner of civil rites laws and then taught THE CONSTITUTUION. does knowledge of our constitution not mean anything anymore? and that was before he was state senator and then senator of illinois...cmon folks, do u prefer palin who before politics was a tv reporter...she won mayor of a small town and then has been gov for 18months and already under ethics investigation and a majority of state republicans voted to look into her ethical practice...i could move to a small town usa and have a good chance of winning mayor myself

When you read the document, did you remember the part that refers to everyone being equal? Do you remember your ethical due process? How can you talk about ethics and logic and then judge others and claim such unrelated points?

Arizona is a community property state. So regardless if Cindy actually wrote the check or handed over the cash, Grammpy is one and the same in terms of who did or who has what..

Good grief! Who cares? My husband and I own four vehicles and NONE of them are American and none of them ever will be. My concern right now is healthcare costs, not how many freeking cars someone owns.

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/22/2008 2:29:43 PM

Sounds as though you'll be happier when there are no American car companies.

  • Posted By: Wynters @ 09/22/2008 2:25:47 PM

So who bought McCain's cars? Him or his wife? Because if it was his wife, then he did not infact work for those cars unless being married to a rich woman counts as work. I ask because most of the cars are not in his/both their name which I find slightly odd.

I think McCain and Palin are guilty or using the term "Washington Elite" during the RNC but I don't actually recall seeing them use the term directly at Obama although it was implied which I believe makes them just as guilty. Just my opinion.

How dare McCain call Obama an elitist. This whole McCain deal is really if not so pathedic would be amuzing. The mud ads he's putting out and the lies he's telling are starting to become clear to the voters. His POW experience does not excuse his bad behavior and lies!

    • Posted By: stampy @ 09/22/2008 2:18:13 PM

I would challenge you to provide any quote where McCain called Obama an elitist. Also, if you think McCain is the only mudslinger in this race I'd encourage you to take a look at factcheck.org. People in glass houses...

And I own 5..1993 Chevy C2500 Diesel P/U, 1995 Ford Escort Wagon, 1999 Chevy Cavalier, 2002 Rexhall Motorhome with a Ford V-10, 2006 Chevy 2500HD Crew Cab P/U and to top it off I also own a few toys a small 17' boat with an OMC 2.3L (Ford), and a Suzuki R450 Quadrunner, a Yamaha 350 Raptor ATV, Yamaha TTR-125LE. SO BIG DEAL!! You know what...I EARNED THEM. I worked my ass off for the past 8 years after 20 in the USAF where we owned several different cars over the 20 years that were all but falling apart and to make ends meet living pay check to pay check. So McCain can reap his benefits and so can everyone else that has spilled blood and sweat for this country. Get Over it. No matter if you are a DemoRAT or a RepubiCON.

Even though I support Obama, this is not important to say the least. I have zero problems with this.

  • Posted By: friendly democrat @ 09/22/2008 2:13:03 PM

to break it down, mccain voted to deregulate these now failing institutions...mccain said its not the govt job to regulate these institutions..but now its the governments (which really means YOUR MONEY)...job to bail wall st out of ruin....if we are not going to regulate it, we shouldnt bail em out...if we are going to bail them out, WE NEED TO REGULATE IT. we are giving the republicans yet another blank check to spend ur tax money...first a war, now wall st. but the republicans refuse to consider subsidizing health care and are against welfare. its ok to buy bombs and bail out corporate rats, but its not ok to help the sick in hungry in our country....makes me sick. lets bail out MAIN ST.

Has anyone stopped to think that most American cars are now made in Mexico or other FOREIGN countries, while both Honda and Volkswagon have facilities in the U.S. That means the money spent on those vehicles actually stayed in the country while major portions of the price for the domestics is going to other countries for the expense of transporting and salaries of foreign employees. And, for that matter, what does it matter when it comes to our country's future?

  • Posted By: RU Kidding @ 09/22/2008 1:45:27 PM

McCain lives a life divorced from the American reality.

  • Posted By: funkdome @ 09/22/2008 1:43:25 PM

    Our media is a joke.

Thanks for this informative piece Newsweek. You guys are really making a difference.

Who cares if the car is foreign made....I would rather see someone make a smart choice in their purchase than to make one just for image. If McCain want to own a Toyota ( which also provides jobs to Americans) or a Honda...let him. Will buying a Chevy make a better President? No, of course not. Stop being cretins and pay attention to what really matters.

    • Posted By: friendly democrat @ 09/22/2008 12:31:34 PM

ur the one that obviously isnt paying attention...how could anyone vote republican.. just look around u...turn off ur faux news and look around. the republican leadership has all but destroyed our economy and now u want 4 more of the same...u should be ashamed.

      • Posted By: pjamet @ 09/22/2008 1:38:27 PM

I AM a democrat. I do not plan on voting for McCain because his vision for our country is not one that I share. However, the car that Obama drives is not want makes want to vote for him. Where it was built also has no bearing on how he will run the country. This fake patriotism is only a way to distract voters from what really matters. We clog our airwaves, our airwaves and our discussions with things that really do not matter andwill not once the election is ov

  • Posted By: jhunter72 @ 09/22/2008 1:33:13 PM

Who can blame them? American cars suck.

  • Posted By: sir_ken_g @ 09/22/2008 1:27:12 PM

Heck my wife, kid, and myself and our parents have not owned 13 cars in out whole life. But McSame is jsut one of us LOL

  • Posted By: sir_ken_g @ 09/22/2008 1:25:43 PM

Me, my wife, my kid, my parents, wife's parents have not owned 13 cars in our lifetimes... folks "just like us" LOL

  • Posted By: dtechba @ 09/22/2008 1:19:32 PM

Roberta McCain's father was a wildcatter but you also fail to note that she was almost cut off when she eloped with John McCain's father. They did not have an opulent lifestyle during much of his childhood. Surprisingly, there are more than passing similarities between the life stories of McCain's mom and Obama's grandmother. Obama's grandmother was a person from comfortable circumstances who married against her families wishes. McCain's mother was the same. Both are still alive, are very strong women and have had great impact on the candidates lives (Obama lived for many years with his grandmother).

  • Posted By: genxgirl1970 @ 09/22/2008 12:49:02 PM

So Newsweek really expects us to believe the Obama's have only one "lone" vehicle....I guess the world is full of unicorns and pink clouds too. The authors of this article are clearly unbiased and aren't trying to sway anyone and are just reporting the news. (obviously) As for global warming, I really like when Al Gore is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to come to speaking engagements about how bad global warming is and then hops on his private jet to fly off into the sunset. He even got busted for using too many outdoor, environment unfriendly bulbs in his home state and it took the local news channel to point this out before the "bad bulbs" were changed. Whatever....

    • Posted By: pm24601 @ 09/22/2008 1:09:24 PM

I know lots of people that don't own *any* cars (and yes they live in the US.) Carpool, and mass transit work just fine for them. And with Barack campaigning as much as he is ...when would he drive a second vehicle.

      *think before posting*

    • Posted By: molten_tofu @ 09/22/2008 1:01:02 PM

Al Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming, and you probably voted for GW in 2000 because you thought he was "stiff" or "too intellectual" or something. I accept your apology.

  • Posted By: molten_tofu @ 09/22/2008 12:32:20 PM

Melissa, honey, all I'm asking is that when you meet your first mixed-heritage person, please tread carefully around the word "mulatto". You don't want to lose your first multi-racial friend before you're even friends.

    • Posted By: Melissa_ski @ 09/22/2008 12:39:14 PM

I have two multiracial nephews. I tell them that they are bi-racial. There mother was caucasian their father black. To call them white is disrespectful to their father and to call them white is disrespectful to their mother. However, mulato is in the dictionary meaning a bi-racial person. Please look it up.

      • Posted By: molten_tofu @ 09/22/2008 1:08:44 PM

I apologize, I'm just angry and it's a message board so I get careless; it's easy to bash you because it's partially anonymous.
