    it does make sense ....nickielane...

ITS CALLED NATURE. PROCREATION. we as humans seem to think we are above the power and sway of our own instincts and passions. WE are still a bi-ped mammal, an animal, on earth. we still have urges, that good ole "heat of the moment" thing is the classic example. WE as humans and beings of life walking this earth are bound by that which makes us, SEX. sex came before religion, before government. all animals on earth have the urge to recreate life. we just have the ability to halt life. and its scary to alot of people. but there are many animals on earth that devore they're young for a number of reasons...food is scarce and they cant provide enough for themselves much less a newborn animal or cub, over population, territory etc... sounds alot like humanity to me...we are not above nature.

that's what I'm talkiing about..........if these women are so hungry.....let em devour thier young.......then they can see the power of a choice.........rare....medium...or well done?

      Good job nimo

unfortunately the higher rates of abortion among minority women is probably related to low rates of marriage among black women, the bedrock of social support for childbearing. One surefire way to help the black community is by promoting family cohesion. This is multifactorial and most be addressed as a cultural shift from within the Black community, but also there are social factors such as high drop out rate, unemployment and incaeration rates among black men that hopefully the govt can throw a bone at now and again. Address domestic violence and teach financial literacy. Bring back home economics in middle and high schools. Some women may be choosing abortion because the support sysyem to have another baby is not there married or not, childcare is not cheap, yet poor in quality. Its hard. As always I pray for my country.

Uh - marriage, the bedrock of social support for childbearing?

Is that why the divorce rate is 50%?

  • Posted By: MeUnedited @ 09/23/2008 11:55:30 AM

Before the pro-lifers go about taking on the task of telling me that I'm going to hell....take a walk in my shoes. I was 30 years old....in a unhappy, abusive marriage and preparing to ask for a divorce. I was on the pill without my husband's knowledge because I knew he was aware of my unhappiness and was afraid he would try exactly what he ended up trying. He purposely damaged a condom in an attempt to get me pregnant so I wouldn't leave. What he doesn't know is that even though I had prepared for his deception with my own....I got pregnant. I never wanted children but I had agreed to think about it when we got married.....part of the reason I wasn't on the pill. Here I was, getting divorced (I asked for one as soon as I found out I was pregnant), pregnant and terrified. He left me with all the debt....all the bills. We were barely making it with two incomes....I was left with one. I didn't want a child. I knew if I had the baby every time I looked at it, I'd be reminded of the pain. It wasn't fair to the child for him to do what he did. I prepared myself, spoke with a counselor and had an abortion. It hurt like hell. Emotionally and psychologically....I'm fine. I never had remorse and I know I did the best thing. But that was my choice to make....no one else's. I don't want to have to do it again and I've since made sure I won't have to. My situation is far from the worst that ends in abortion. I can't even fathom being raped and ending up pregnant. Everyone is entitled to their opinion....but they are not entitled to tell me what to do with my body, my life. They can sit on their high horse in their crystal palace and look down on me if they want. I don't really care. I just hope they never have to go through what I did......and I hope no one they love has to go through it either.....I'd hate for that to be what made them see that sometimes what you see as black and white.....typically has a shade of grey.

    getthepoint...

and thats what its all about. A CHOICE, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF THAT CHOICE IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL MAKING THE CHOICES THAT AFFECT THAT INDIVIDUALS LIFE. thats the point of it all. but he still gave that freedom. why cant we as a society stop poking our capitolist noses in every facet of the individuals life?

  • Posted By: getthepoint @ 09/23/2008 10:33:31 AM

check this out..........if you were in that group back in the seventies or eighties that had high abortion rates

and if you have since decides to make smarter choices, as proposed below, then your rates for abortion have dropped 100%..........

That blows away what the article suggests.......

    • Posted By: obgynluke @ 09/23/2008 11:53:44 AM

      apparently you dont understand statistics...

  • Posted By: ndrock @ 09/23/2008 10:53:06 AM

Money for birth control is such a lame excuse for abortion. You can get birth control through your doctor and the pharmacy companies. You just have to want to fill out the forms on the web sites that all companies have, get the prescription from your doctor, and send it in. I know stamps are expensive, but so is an abortion.
The next step of course is that you have to want to do something about birth control and that means taking the pill, or the other means available to not get pregnant including the old "rubber". It may not be 100%, but it works most of the time.
Birth control may not be perfect, but in this day and age there is just no reason that a woman has to have one, except for rape and incest.
But see that is the kicker, one must want to prevent pregnancy, and that takes a little effort on both the man's and woman's part.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 09/23/2008 10:57:34 AM

It also takes a community that openly discusses the best methods for prevention and makes those tools available. I have known many students in their early 20's who have *never* had a frank discussion about sex. The only thing they know for sure (besides the fact that babies are a possibility) is that they must keep their sexual activity *hidden*.

      • Posted By: mydiadem @ 09/23/2008 11:52:54 AM

ndrock you obviously are not on the birth control pill or are so rich that you can't even fathom that many people cannot afford it. In order to get it you need to 1) go to the GYN and get a prescription $ 2) hopefully have health insurance and pay $25 a month or if you don't pay about $50 a month. Comparing the expense of stamps to birth control is laughable! Yes you can use condoms but like you said they are not as effective, only 95% of the time when perfect use and really are only 85% effective with normal use.
And as was said earlier, the religious nut jobs are now even trying to take birth control pills away from women lumping it in with 'abortion'. So its just going to get harder and harder, not any easier, to 'put in a little effort' without some changes!
Also how much do you think its costs to get Viagra these days?

  • Posted By: getthepoint @ 09/23/2008 11:50:59 AM

basically,.....people have the right to remain stupid

  • Posted By: getthepoint @ 09/23/2008 11:47:46 AM

Jesus always gave a choice...........but, with your choice came consequences.

if you chose not to believe...... He didn't hang around you any longer. He was so very intoloerant........and narrow minded too...

  • Posted By: MoJabar @ 09/23/2008 10:20:55 AM

Too bad sterilization is off the table for the poor and stupid of this country. The article seems to say that some women are just too poor or uneducated to buy birth control! How do they pay for the abortion if they can not spend a few dollars on condoms. And reading between the lines it would seem that these same stupid and poor women don't seem to care if they get S.T.D.'s either. S.T.D.'s including H.I.V. that smarter and more responsible tax payers will be paying for. Mass sterelization of this moronic underclass would go a long way to solving expensive societal problems. By all means, poor and stupid women of U.S.A., please have as many abortions as possible, to save the country from your unfortunate progeny; and thank you for doing so.

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 09/23/2008 10:51:20 AM

Actually, it would much cheaper to sterilize the poor and stupid men, don't you think? Vasectomy is much, much cheaper than tubal ligation. We could eliminate the expensive societal problem and save even more money in the process.

A win-win for everyone. Oh, except the men, of course.

      • Posted By: MoJabar @ 09/23/2008 11:00:52 AM

All the better. Vasectomies for the men and Norplant for the women, just for good measure. Then the poor and stupid can spend the whole day getting it on with no consequences to society, aside from that pesky H.I.V., and Gonorrhea.

        • Posted By: son_shine @ 09/23/2008 11:40:12 AM

I hope you're joking because common sense tells you that education is the issue with poor poeple. That prevents unwanted pregnancy and disease. Just because you can't imagine being in a community where there is a lack of eduation doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • Posted By: nickielane @ 09/23/2008 11:25:23 AM

OK Abortion is wrong no matter what! But come on... they forget the "teaching" they had as 16 year olds when they turn 21??? .... Or even if they are older and already have more children they can't say NO to their "desire" for sex (married or not), but they can say NO to a new life already started in them. Dosen't make sense! Wake up People!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: getthepoint @ 09/23/2008 11:39:10 AM

some people who cannot say no to thier desires are huge......some are broke........some are dead

  • Posted By: jim43 @ 09/23/2008 11:38:52 AM

This issue is stupid. Factsare Only a woman has the right to deside. You can have sex 50 times or 500 times or 1 ONCE, your choice. If you end up late you lost the right to choose, Now you Deside. No matter how much your opinion is correct. The man only plants seed.

  • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 09/23/2008 11:37:55 AM

    for getthepoint...

and i quote YOU..."and if they accepted the healing"...i.e. a choice.

jesus never pushed and forced people to beleive him. he gave people a choice. the freedom to make your own life what it is whether that be following jesus or not. and that was more than 2,000yrs ago. and we still have a problem allowing freedom of choice. we still have a problem of not being able to seperate church and state.

  • Posted By: juliesatx @ 09/23/2008 10:35:39 AM

Possibly part of the problem is the fact that Mississippi has only one abortion clinic in the whole state with a healthy population of minorities. I guess you only get to have choices if you can afford it. Who cares bout the women forced to have children they cannot feed? The state of kansas wanted to overturn abortion even thought they have less than 5000 a year. What no one cares about is the 200,000 children in the state who live below the poverty line. But even worse is the fact that 80% of the population that lives below the poverty line are women and children. Can you explain this to me? Men are not being held responsible for anything which is why this is a 'single party' decision.

Just looking at the stats on violence against women tells me the state does not care about protecting women. Our possible new VP decided to charge rape victims for their rape kits in the state of Alaska which has the highest rate of sexual assault. Outrageous that people will still vote for her. the state of Nevada, where women are a legal commodity, has a serial killer on the loose and I think they should be forced even more so, to protect women especially since they benefit from their exploitation.

I know many women who have had abortion and don't feel guilt. They know they made the right decision. One friend of mine had an abortion of her second child and good thing she did because her husband left her a couple of months later for someone else. She would have had two babies to feed, completely alone. She feels good about her decision.

Because women bear the responsibility, often alone, to raise children, no person can judge these women for their choice. If you want to send them pampers and give them free health insurance maybe you can make them slaves of the state, forcing them to give birth, breeding poverty and soldiers of course. Margaret Sanger understood the challenges women face, here's a quote by her....................

War, famine, poverty and oppression of the workers will continue while woman makes life cheap. They will cease only when she limits her reproductivity and human life is no longer a thing to be wasted.

    • Posted By: son_shine @ 09/23/2008 11:36:00 AM

YOu know, my husband and I have two wonderful children. But what makes me sick to my stomach is this cult-like baby worship. Yet when these same babies grow up, the same people who want them born at any cost, will sent them to an unjust war, will jail them for the slightest wrong, will marginalize them if they are minorities. This is so stupid! Like anything else, you need to let people be. With the right environment, most people will make good choices.

    • Posted By: jim43 @ 09/23/2008 10:47:39 AM

Many issues yes. Men need to be responsible also. My Daughter has a 9mo old and her Husband left her 7mos ago. He did call and will visit today, his last visit was in June. No child support has been paid. I just dont see how its ok for me to have sex without responsibilty. I wouldn't drive without brakes.

i FEEL WOMENS RIGHTS WILL GO IN THE TOILET IF THE REPUBLICANS WIN --i HAVE ALWAYS VOTED REPUBLICAN --NOT NOW--If I were raped by some grungy druunk at 43 --and I was made to carry the child --It would not work --also we fought for these rights a born again lady will not swing me to vote for her or mr. mccain backward thinking

Dust off that old coat hanger. Say hello to the back alley abortionist. So long Roe v. Wade.

Don't give up. We all can do something to prevent those who would like to rule our public and private lives from getting into office. It's not a lost cause.

Anti-Abortion Laws are Discrimination against woman???s Rights
How can anybody allow filthy old men, usually in there 60???s and Republican, to decide what???s good for our daughters?
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention their new puppet, A.K.A. Sarah Palin!

check the full article at www.chilitoz.com

    • Posted By: bojack27 @ 09/23/2008 11:10:12 AM

Why is it discriminating against woman' rights?.... A woman shouldn't have a right to kill a child period! No matter how you put it..... fetus, blob, mass of tissue.... we all know that it is an unborn child and any woman think that they have the right to murder a child is deprived of reasonable thought process......

It will be interesting to see how much the abortion rates increase once the Bush Adminstration and Leavitt of the Health & Human Services have their way by making most forms of birh control (IUD, the Pill, etc.) classified as causing abortions. Further, the mandate that they are proposing will make anybody from the janitor (who works in a doctor's office and objects to birth control) on up to the doctors and pharmacists not have to be apart of dispensing birth control or give abortions. In other words, the government is going to allow everyone to decide if you should be able to get and use some form of birth control, but you or the victim of rape or incest will not have a say in the matter. This mandate does not have to go through Congress either. The final day to speak out against this mandate is Sept. 25, 2008. Let Mr. Leavitt know that it is irresponsible and damaging to women.

PS My Big Brother is for Abortion Rights

  • Posted By: 4astrongamerica @ 09/23/2008 10:58:09 AM

The excuses are just that...excuses. I was one of the statistics in the 1980's. I was an unwed teenager, living in poverty. I chose to give birth to my son & had an abundance of support & resources to help me. However, had I chosen to do so, there were actually a few couples that approached me about adopting my son if I didn't feel that I could care for him. That's not to mention all of the adoption agencies that were available. Thankfully, I was determined and had the confidence that I could care for my son. I raised my son alone & attended college until I met my husband. I am now a college graduate, married for 17 years to a man that loves my son and a successful business woman. Maybe if we would support these women and encourage them to choose life, then maybe responsible decisions could be made that favor the unborn. If you are only told that you can't...You'll believe that you can't. The resources are available - people just need to offer these women viable options other than abortion and help them to believe that they can or that there are better alternatives.

perhaps if women knew when to say no....this wouldn't even be in the headlines.

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 09/23/2008 10:57:30 AM

You are assuming that all women can actually say "no." Sadly, many can't.

Domestic violence is a real problem for many women, and saying "no" to a volatile partner puts many women (and sometimes their children) at risk.
