Why is it suddenly so important that this has to be done NOW!!! ? The idea of rushing this plan through without taking the time to fully explore it and attempt to understand it scare me to death!! I honestly hope that Congress goes on vacation without doing anything with this plan. No one is going to ever learn from mistakes if we don't let them suffer the consequences.

We all will have to tighten our belts, we all will have to budget better, we all need to slow down a bit. Throwing good money after bad is bad policy. The bailout will aid the few that own or have vested interest in the organizations that made poor decisions, on the wings of massive profits and wealth. And, we need to look at those folks in congress as the election nears. Vote out the incumbents starts correcting some of whats wrong with our economy.

We certainly can't trust "Flim Flam" Paulson with his new flim flam scam to bilk taxpayers out of $700 billion to save his crooked cronies on Wall Street. This is his problem that he created by constantly lying to us over the past year about how strong the economic fundamentals are and how robust Wall Street was.

I say let Wall Street pull itself up by it's own bootstraps! Yeah he wanted a rush to judgment because no one in their right mind would ever hand over $700 billion to a Con Man and just trust him to make wise investments of taxpayer money without any oversight and no accountability.

I believe Paulson is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. If he stands there and says that if we don't act now that we'll face dire consequences, then if Congress doesn't act, people are going to panic - and create dire consequences. He and the Administration have put Congress in a no-win position on this one.

Every action throughout history that has monkeyed with the economy has had unintended consequences. I would imagine the unintended consequences of injecting $700B of taxpayer dollars into the private sector could be astounding. And what if, in the end, it doesn't work or makes matters worse? Where does that leave us? In "dire consquences" and less $700B.

It's sad for so many people to miss the point here - we are not spending $700b, we are buying below market assets at market value (or below market value - hopefully) which have already been written down by the holding companies for huge losses. It's annoying to watch the media try and cause fear by telling everyone that they will tax the people for $700b. Warren Buffet had a great interview this morning explaining how the US Gov't could actually make money on this "bailout". The real risk is to make sure the US Gov't does not overpay for the assets.

The fact that Paulson, Bernanke and soon, Bush are trying to rush Congress and the American people into supporting this should raise all kinds of red flags. Scare tactics, talking of impending crisis, recess and doom and gloom are GOP trademarks - remember the Iraqi invasion. No, no rushing into this bailout!!! WHile something may need to be done, oversight, penalties and care are mandatory if you want to spend my money.

Who can honestly argue that a Republican president would be good for the USA at this point? After the last 8 years of

Does anyone else feel like nobody knows what the hell is going on.

I agree with 1easylay that if we hadn't thrown all of our money down an Iraqi hole, we'd be much better equipped to respond to this ridiculous financial disaster. But all of the much more useful domestic things that could have been done with that money can only be lamented now thanks to Georgie.

IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE MORE THAN 1 TRILLION DOLLARS ALREADY WASTED IN IRAQ, WE'D BE OK NOW.

Horse liniment will cure liver cancer. Just rub it on your body where the liver is located and see how good you feel.

Now, we need to make the doctor who prescribes the horse liniment immune from responsibility in case the liver cancer comes back. It's one thing for the patient to die, but if the doctor has to pay, then we won't have a doctor any more.
