Clay's Aiken's Overdue Honesty

I think Clay is a good guy, I love his music and I for one is still a fan. I was surprised that he is gay, but I understand why he kept it to himself. My wish for him is to continue to be a great dad, as I'm sure he is and keep making the music that I love.

Right, bath houses and public bathrooms. I'll bet you call that looking for love.....

This was none of anybody's business until Clay made it everybody's business by "coming out" in People magazine. There's nothing brave in admitting to be gay or being one. It's brave for a celebrity to say that they are battling cancer or another life-threatening illness. Being gay is very much the norm in today's Hollywood. So Clay will fit right in. Whether being gay is right or wrong is a matter of individual opinion. Nobody should be judged for what they choose to do with their lives, unless they are a criminal. However, for anyone to say that being homosexual is NORMAL is ridiculous. Nature has many strange phenomenon, and just because there is some gay activity that happens sometimes among animals, doesn't prove anything. Whether you believe in God or evolution, the reason why human beings survived for thousands of years on this planet is because of procreation, which can still happen only because of a man and a woman, even when with help of technology like in the case of Clay's son, you still need a man and a woman to create another human being.

Clay is an embarassment to Country music and American men everywhere. He is now a joke just like Rock Hudson.

It seems to me that there could be a lack of understanding of this situation here. Has the writer never heard of Rock Hudson for instance, Tyrone Power for instance, or Richard Chamberlain who came out at age 72 a couple of years ago. True, things have changed a bit, but not human nature, family conditons, etc.

Thank you so much for this article. You said everything exactly as I have been thinking it for years now. I was a Clay Aiken fan from his first days on American Idol, and I eagerly earned all I could about him and supported his decisions. But unlike what seems like many of Clay's fanbase, I have a brain, and in recent years, watching him fumble and bluster through interviews, I could not deny any longer that he was simply not acting in a way that should be earning our respect. Your remark about him reacting homophobically to questions was dead on. I do not think for one moment that the public has a right to know his sexuality, or that he should have been forced to answer these questions. I do, however, think that a celebrity seemingly so concerned with using his fame responsibly (he has used it to support many causes as well as to found his own foundation) would have - gay or straight - responded with a bit more dignity and made it clear that it should no longer be seen as shameful to be a homosexual. Many Claymates are angry not because he is gay, but because they trusted this young man implicitly, and therefore defended him for years against these attacks, even though he himself barely handled them with any grace. I understand that it takes a lot of courage to come out, but I am disappointed that Clay had such little faith in his fans and in the public in general that he felt he would be shunned and ridiculed for coming out. No one cares if you're gay or not, Clay. We do care, however, that you did your homophobic dance of shame for so long. I'm glad that you've finally decided to be a man about this, and I hope that from now on your behavior can be Idol-worthy once again.

And what gives you the right to judge anyway? I think maybe you're just alittle peeved because Clay
wouldn't give you what you wanted at the time? Besides, what does anyones sexuality have to do with anything
anyway.

I happened to see the Bible mentioned as I glance down through the messages. I always figure it is not my problem to decide what a higher power (God) feels about the way someone else lives their life. Not my place to judge.

I am not an Aiken fan and I have never seen Idol. However, I think it is different for a male to declare he is gay if being an object of attraction for women is part of the draw to his career. I think it is easier for a woman to declare they are gay because many a man has the "gay women" fantasy and they can all see themselves smack dab in the middle of 2 women getting it on. Women usually want romance and love, not just sex, and so it is not as easy for a man to come out if attraction to the opposite sex is part of what makes his career go 'round.

LET A BOOK INTERPRET ITSELF, hmmm, last i checked according to many universal laws and personal studies ive done, books arent alive, they cant think, but they CAN be interpreted
