Sarah Palin: The Hollow, Floating, Bubble..Caves in on the Obama Stimulus Money...
    ---------------------------
ANCHORAGE, Alaska: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will sign bills accepting most of the federal stimulus funds available to the state, her spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Palin initially said she would accept only about two-thirds of the $930 million available to Alaska.

Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said the governor changed her mind after the public weighed in during legislative hearings prior to lawmakers passing bills to seek almost all of the funding.

Palin had warned about the state having to finance projects created by the stimulus funds after the federal money runs out. She earlier called the stimulus package "an unsustainable, debt-ridden package of funds."

Alaska's Legislature conducted more than 20 public hearings on the federal stimulus package, and legislative leaders said they couldn't find any of the strings attached to the funds that Palin had warned about.

They passed bills accepting nearly all the funds before the April 19 adjournment.

"I thank legislators for their work on the federal economic stimulus package and the public for participating in the process," Palin said Tuesday in a statement.

The only funds Palin will reject, Leighow said, will be nearly $29 million for a State Energy Program she says are tied to adopting a statewide energy code.

Alaska's vast expanse and wide-ranging conditions are not conducive to such an energy code, Palin said.

Leighow anticipates the legislative bills covering the stimulus will be sent to Palin by early next week. She will have 20 business days to sign or veto them.

    Source: The Portfolio Magazine....

There is a considerable gap between the image Sarah Palin tries to project and the reality that underlies it.

In sometimes startling fashion, her deeds often belie her words.

And as I learned on a recent visit to Alaska, nowhere is this more evident than in the story of the still-chimerical gas pipeline.

There are certain basic facts about Alaska:

Beautiful, it???s far away, the winters are cold and dark, and it far exceeds the National Average in such Categories as Suicides, Alcoholism, Wife Beating, Child Abuse, School Dropouts, and Percentage of the Population likely to be found bearing one or more Loaded Firearms at any given hour of the day.

    Translation: [[A Hill Billy Haven]]

But the most important fact about Alaska???the one that has done more to determine its destiny than all the others???is that underneath it Lies a Whole Hell of a Lot of Oil !!

    Sarah Palin is a ...

    "Hollow, Floating, Bubble"
    --------------------

But with natural gas selling for less than $2 per million British thermal units, or MMBtu???which it had been for about 50 years???there was no way to make money building a $40 billion pipeline to carry it all the way from the North Slope of the Brooks Range in Alaska to Chicago, or Green Bay, Wisconsin, or Burnt Chitlin, Louisiana.

Only in the past 10 years did the price climb above $3 per MMBtu, the lowest possible number at which an Alaskan pipeline might be feasible, according to experts in the natural-gas sector. (After spiking to more than $12 last summer, by February gas was down to about $4.75.)

In Alaska, another factor came into play. The gas was controlled by the same three companies???Exxon Mobil, BP, and ConocoPhillips???that were producing the oil at Prudhoe Bay.

By injecting it into their oil wells to increase pressure, they???d been using the gas to up the production of oil, a far more valuable commodity. Only in the past several years, as the North Slope fields began to run dry???production at Prudhoe in 2008 was only one-third of its peak output, in 1979???had the three companies begun to consider selling their natural gas.

That was when Sarah Palin reared her head.

She saw the launching of a natural-gas-pipeline project as a God-given opportunity to prove herself bigger than Big Oil.

Thus was born, in the spring of 2007, the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act, or AGIA, under the terms of which the state would pay up to $500 million in startup money to the company it selected to build the pipeline.

The chosen company would have to comply with AGIA???s stringent, inflexible terms. Certain provisions, such as the state???s refusal to set tax rates in advance or even specify the formula by which they would be calculated, seemed designed specifically to discourage Exxon Mobil, BP, and ConocoPhillips from participating.

In fact, the terms discouraged almost everybody. In the end, the only bidder to meet AGIA???s requirements was the Calgary-based pipeline-construction company TransCanada. Nonetheless, Palin was thrilled.

She felt that with AGIA, she???d stuck her thumb in the eye of Big Oil as no governor before her ever had. She was good, and they were bad, and she???d defeated them. She was Joan of Arc at Orleans.

There was only one problem: TransCanada didn???t have any gas. Exxon Mobil, BP, and ConocoPhillips had the gas. In her populist fervor, what Palin had done???aided and abetted by the state legislature???was contrive to pay as much as $500 million to a foreign company to look into the possibility of someday building a line.

Poor Sarah! She's always going to be a national joke from here on. The sad part is that she just doesn't get it or care. To think, there are people out there who actually think she has a shot at 2012! She'll shoot anything if it gets her on the cover of'"Guns and Ammo."

I think that it's laughable....We kill the wolves and bears (brutally) so that the moose and caribou populations will grow...so that hunters can go out and KILL them. Am I missing something?? Most of these "hunters" are for sport to begin with....the others that kill for food...I can understand. Moose and Caribou are ENORMOUS animals...how many do they need to kill for food? 1, 10, 20 for an average family for one year?

I totally agree with Defenders of Wildlife. If they seem to have a predatory problem with wolves; why not trap them and transport them to the lower 48 states where they are endangered??

I was all for Palin...AT FIRST. Then I was notified by DOW about the aerial hunting, and how Palin encouraged it. I was horrified, especially for her remarks on the $150 for the foot of every wolf slaughtered. THAT IS barbaric and horrifically cruel. That spurred me on to find out more about her...and what I read shocked me. What was McCain THINKING?! WAS HE THINKING?! She's a country bumpkin IDIOT. She's sneaky and just to the left of honest. I DON'T WANT HER IN ANY POSITION OF POWER IN MY COUNTRY.

I'm a Republican and I was all set to vote for McCain, but now....I have no idea of WHOM I'm going to vote for now. I'm thoroughly disgusted and embarrassed to be Republican right now. I wonder if McCain is worried about who he picked as a running mate; if he's as embarrassed and annoyed as the rest of us are. Is it too late to pick someone else??

"Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

Anyone who thinks Gov. Palin has any kind of future in national politics, let alone being a serious candidate for president in 2012, is drinking something a lot stronger than Kool-Aid. To say nothing of the MANY scandals and lies coming from her administration, the programs and views she TOUTS with PRIDE disqualify her in the eyes of a vast majority of our population. She may have temporary popularity with the Republican base, but that base is less than a third of our population. She will lose that support when the base begins to examine her unequivocal (if nonsensical) statement that while she opposes Roe v. Wade, she nevertheless believes that the Constitution provides an inherent right to privacy. This, of course, as Couric pointed out, is the cornerstone of Roe, as well as of many other decisions conservatives hate. Palin is not a credible candidate for national office.

Shooting wolves from airplanes is barbaric. Just contemplate how many voters are dog lovers or dog owners. I have three dogs myself. Visualize someone shooting your dog from an airplane. Now visualize voting for someone who thinks it is okay to pay people a bounty to do that. A dog is not a wolf, as I clearly recognize. But the distinction is not so great as to make a meaningful difference to most of us in the lower 48 (and certainly not to those of us who live in blue or even swing states).

Gov. Palin will remain popular in certain limited circles. She will never be a national candidate. And I'm damned glad of that. Savage, barbaric cruelty. There's no other way to put it.

    The Antichrist!:
When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn???t stop himself. He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the ???bubble of American supremacy,??? because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global ???equilibrium.??? So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms ???regime changes,??? is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment. But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it. Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an ???economic war criminal??? who ???sucks the blood from the people.??? Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a ???third way??? toward economic stability.

Wake up, America, before it is too late!!!!

You've got to find a better hobby than just trolling Newsweek posts, Krohn. I'm actually embarassed to notice you're raving (4 in 24 hours, jesus man). You should take all your conservatively biased Fox News bullshit and go some place where someone might actually notice (other than me, of which I've already admitted is embarassing in itself) or give a ***. Hell, I'll probably forget I wrote this in the next two minutes just to show you how insignificant your ranting really is. Go get a girlfriend or a hobby to fill up your time because this is just entirely unproductive.

My god Krohn, don't you have anything else to do than post conservatively biased Fox News bullshit on insignificant online Newsweek reports? I'm actually a bit embarassed that I'm responding (to your our posts in 24 hours) but for Christ's sakes, son, if you're really wanting to make a difference I can promise you here is not the place. Take your crap somewhere else where first of all someone besides me is going to read it and perhaps where someone gives a ***. I won't be responding back to any of your comebacks and will probably forget I wrote this in the next 2 minutes, just to show you how inconsequential your raving really is.
