Obama has done nothing but hand over billions of dollars to the banks and millions to his organization of choice, ACORN. Small businesses have gotten nothing but a higher tax burden.

I agree with "Concerned Liberal." ObamaAide to the UAW was a stab in the back, but to allow those who perpetrated the financial meltdown of the World's Economy to virtually go scott-free is unacceptable. The Rober-Barons, Fat-Cat Politicians (of Both Parties), and the individuals at the responsible regulatory agencies should be made to stand in front of the American people to "Pay the Piper."
As for the Democrats and Republicans - until the stifling laws that restrict ANY third party from gaining traction are defeated and overthrown (in court: Unconstitutional; freedom of expression and speech), then we are going to continue to have the same Jerks and A _ _ _ oles up and down the Political Bean Pole. What we need a "Jack" to come along and cut down that "Bean Pole" so that we can start over with all of our Politicians.

One might wonder as to the quickness of the economic rebound if the stimulus had been given out in terms of how it would have best effected the most people.
Instead of rewarding those who got very wealthy in the exercise of destroying the collective wealth of almost the planet by allowing them to first stay in business when their work morals and ethics bit them in the ass, but more diabolically their nature was completely overlooked when grant these monies and so they were allowed to reward the very people who deserve prison or even death by stoning!
Maybe 100,000 Americans benifited from the convoluted and continuingrewards for failure that Obama is still in the process of giving his buddies in the UAW and auto industry what if they actually went to the general population or even let them fail and those dollars went to reeducating and paying the unemployment of the thousands that still got the boot in that industry?
Humans are a predictable spieces, when they get hit with a stick they remember it especially if it is a regular practice as it has been for at least the last 4 decades.........reward the rich with favorable laws and pack your retirement chest with extra cash!
WHAT IF WE COULD COUNT ON OUR GOVERNMENT TO REPRESENT THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE MAJORITY?
Don't count on it when either the Democrats or Republicans are in control!
When they are in control it is more about how much can I steal and get away with it!
"What about us" is an utterance which stems from a perception that government is influenced by something other than "we the people", and is out of control.

I would like to write Pres. Obama a letter asking him why at a time taxpayers/middle class are losing their jobs, why isn't he cutting some of the layers of Washington's federal jobs. Taxpayers pay those salaries, maybe if some of the gov't layers were laid off, we would see those in power do something quicker. Why are we still spending billions on space travel and Pentagon payrolls when needs are not being met for the basic's for the middle class. Wouldn't there be more bang for the buck if they stopped the NASA funding and some of the Pentagon funding/payroll at this time. Is traveling to the space station so important now, when the general economy is struggling so. Shame of those in higher power, not to stop some of this chaos, but deeper spending cuts. Why add so much new debt, why not cut some spending?!!!
"Is traveling to the space station so important now, when the general economy is struggling so"
The advancement of space technology is an important aspect of the modern world. The advancement of humans should continue even in the midst of hardships. If you really want to cut some costs, turn your cable off. That will save the individual tax payer more than if they cut the space program.
It's amazing how President Obama who has been in office approximately 45 days should be the wizard of oz. Ok to ask the questions and make suggestions, but this crisis is significant and he's only one person with help of course. He like you and me around our kitchen tables must priortize. Great suggestion but on that requires patience. The president has to wieigh what helps the American people or what gets the most bang for it's buck as he considers his priorities.

YEAH LETS RUSH TO GET ANOTHER DEMOCRAT IN OFFICE, SO ALL OF THEM CAN WREAK EVEN MORE HAVOC ON AMERICA.
What party was in office for the last 8 years? After being warned about Fannie and Freddie, what exactly did Henry Paulson do when he first stepped into office as Treasury Secretary?
Better what party was in office 20 of the last 28 years? what party cleaned up the mess 8 of those 28 years, Clinton and left a surplus and we all had good lives it's called trickle up. But for some reason you enjoy the punishment of the Republicans and the power, corporate priority and filling their pockets with billions and trillions of our money. Now the whole thing has fallen on all our heads except the wealthy, they might be loosing money but they will survive and do it quite well.
Fortunately for Americans the majority get this it's unfortunate that you don't it's called putting Republican interest about your and your families self interest and there are a number of you on that page.
I find it ironic, and to a degree quite funny, the types of people that are republicans, especially in my area. It is usally the people that do not benefit from republican decisions, and usually the ones the benefit from the "socialist" programs in this country that they will not admit at being so if they benefit.
My first comment is that any comment, according to some people who would have the amount of money that could put then in the range to dervie probable cause to investigate if there are questions and complants about how they use it, believe is sufficient, outside of Constitutional procedure, because of their purported importance and consideration of confidentiality of others, for a countercomplaint that automatically restrains the person with the personal comment, prevents him or her from releasing further information, and results in civil and criminal action, automatically or as necessary until however the important person claims s/he could be harmed ends and s/he feels comfortable.
My second comment is I wonder how billions of dollars do into one person's pocket, and if, instead, there's a larger conspriacy as well, where it goes into a pool, for future interests, protection, and to favor the groups eliite interests above the greater good. By that hyoethesis, it would become a safe bet and certain, if people could invest privately in ways that are known to be profitable and also consistent with the elite groups' interests. (As an example, somehow, relatives of people who invested, in ways they were certain they couldn't loose a lot; such as, in the poison, cyanide, to be used in the United States and in Europe, prior to and during World War II, never knew and they fought each other, some having impossible responsibilities and some living leisurely or well.) When I heard of the AIG "scandal," I wondered if we should admit the larger operative civil conspiracy is too great for us, as a Country, and ask for help defending valid employees and witnesses, prosecuting people who obviousy aren't as competent and don't work for the greater good, and letting others allege and respond to grievances first, for human and civil rights, by "joining," "conceding," or forcing the admission and release of infomraiton to show that an individuals rights and feelings about the situation we're in, and what would be for the greater good, are valid, and could be acceptable to politicians and others who have to make decisions. By the time information gets to books, about, for example, the Rockefllers, and their non-American relatives don't know about it, it would be too late for their American relatives (at AIG,) to do anything to correct the situation they tried to prvent. From,"Don't Dare Call It a Conspiracy,, if AIG employees are required to assume an interest common with the group, and someone were to decide they'd need to advance a huge amount of money to insure and indemnify Medicaid programs and providers, then the President would need to know that, and also that I'm sure "social services" was the last decision, in the government in Germany, before World War II started, and also that national healthcare, the way it's described, would have a worse result in the United States.

sinfulx2, read the article in the New York Times about this, the issue I refer to is dated Sept. 30th, 1999. After you have looked up that issue of New York Times, and read the article, come back and give us your opinion then.
President Obama's budget helps the average person. That's a big reason we need to support it. I might also add that we need to apply the new math, advocated by Van Jones. We need to compare the amount we spend with the amout we save in the future. For example, unversal health care costs about one half to two thirds as much as our present dysfunctional system. We' could save billions if not trillions of dollars if we permitted anyone to buy into Medicare. I could give a lot of other examples, but sumbal123's attention span seems to be limited.
To help finance the budget we need to slap a 70 to 90 % surtax on the incomes of the top 1%. These are the people that brought us this debacle and these are the people who expect the government to finance their Golden Parachutes. A sur tax is good way to Just Say NO. My proposed surtax is nothing new. That's pretty much the rate the wealthy paid during World War II. The Republicans love to tell us that World War II ended the depression. They don't tell us that World War II involved massive deficit spending and higher taxes on the wealthy. Considering the threat of global warming and terrorism, we are facing a crisis as severe as World War II.
MR OBAHMA BEST GET HIS HEAD OUT OF THE SAND AND REALIZE THATTHE WALL RAIDERS AND THE BOTTOM FEEDERS ON WALL STREET WILL DETERMINE JUST WHERE AND WHEN THE STIMLUS PACKAGE WILL PASS, WHEN IT FITS THEIR PACKAGE AND JUST WHERE THE PORK WILL BE DISTRIBUTED. THE TAXPAYER WILL BE LEFT OUT IN THE COLD AS USUAL.
Fortunately you were completely wrong. The President is definitely fighting for us.
The 750 billion tarp is a lie.
The sub prime mortgage meltdown is a lie.
The foreclosure crisis causing a world wide economic downturn is a lie.
It is all about math.
Less than 1 million foreclosures times less than 1k per month payment times 12 months is less than 12 billion in loses from every single foreclosure last year. So why do banks need trillions. When they made if you do the math again over 500 billion on the mortgages that were paid?
It is all a lie.
The banks sold the mortgages to wall street. Wall street securitized the assets and rated them AAA. Then leveraged the original mortgages up to 1000 times to borrow 10000 times the original mortgage from the bank. Then wall street to add insult to injury took some of that money and invested only in corporations who off shored every single american job humanly possible to third world slave and child labor.
Now Americans have no job. The banks have no money left. The biggest american corporations are going bankrupt because americans can not borrow money to buy homes or auto's. All because Wall Street stole so much money that the economy can not recover. And the banks and wall street are the biggest donors to both political parties. If it was not so serious you could make a comedy out of this and laugh until you cry.
Wake up America and do the MATH!!!!!
if you live your life right, pay your bills and take care of your mortgage, all you might get is the mini-tax break of $400 per person. That???s about enough money for each of you to go to lunch once a week -??? but only for a fast food lunch. At $7.69 a week, Obama???s ???Making Work Pay??? tax credit doesn???t make work pay very well.
The Roman Caesars appeased their people with bread and circuses. In 2009, Obama has offered us bread, too. But this time it???s just a few items from the Dollar Menu at McDonald???s. And, for circuses, the passage of his 1,071-page American Recovery and Reinvestment Act certainly ought to qualify. More than 300 Senators and Representatives ???- nearly all of them Democrats ???- voted for the largest spending bill in history without ever reading the darn thing!
The signs of a chronic, economic rot in the lives of millions of Americans and their families, have been painfully apparent for many years now. With a government seemingly, hell bent on making their fellow Americans suffer through these current indignities because of a Congress and a Presidency so focused on the drone of Corporate Lobbyists ( Who now stand at over 17,000) that they seem to find it easy to also forget why they are there. The American People deserve better than what they have been getting from their elected officials. Much, much better.
I would like to know why companies are still allowed to bring in (or keep) temp. visa workers, like comp. programmers, medical or other workers and the like - while American Citizens are getting laid off by the thousands? These are called H-1B workers. How come we don't hear a thing about them? At a time of crisis, shouldn't they be going home and citizens being hired? Outsourcing should be put on a halt basis by the Pres.
Absolutely, News123!

Instead of giving money to the Auto industries, give a $10,000 voucher to each adult American citizen to buy an electic car of their choice and let small business who build electric cars compete for their business. Have everyone interested in obtaining a voucher perform voluneer work in exchange for the voucher. The country would become less dependent on fossil fules, the environment would benefit from less emissions, jobs would be created for everyone (not just UAW members), cheap transportation will become obtainable for everyone and everyone could more easily find employment if they have transportation.
Great plan, Y2, but, realistically speaking, we both know this idea has about as much chance as an ice cube in Hades.
Re: Health Care in Calif. - Get rid of the illegals - that'll help! Get them off welfare, think about it. Our true Americans are suffering because of them. Wake Up!!
Agree completely! They need to "JUST DO IT!!"
MR OBAHMA BEST GET HIS HEAD OUT OF THE SAND AND REALIZE THAT THE "GOOD OLD BOYS": WILL DICTATE
HOW THE STIMULUS AND HOW MUCH IS PUT TO GOOD USE. THE RAIDERS OF WALL STREET AND THE BOTTOM FEEDERS WILL BE THE ONES TO PUT THE STIMULUS TO WORK, "IN THEIR FAVOR".
I sooo agree with you y2kleader!
phoyett@knology.net,Instead of giving the banks and industries money,Give each citizen a 15,000 voucher to use to pay bill,s.A voucher is the best stimulus plan for the citizen. That will get the economy started.
It is obsurd to give more money to the banks. I say let them go bankrupt. The "foreclosure crisis" is only a crisis to the banks. Actually the forclosures are the best thing to happen for a long time because we can now buy a house for under $10,000 and live without a mortgage or paying rent. Thomas Jefferson said, "If we allow banking institutions to take over our country they will be a worse enemy than any standing army." The people of america should declare war on this enemy by refusing to pay their loans. That's right..everyone should just stop paying. The banks would go belly up in a heartbeat. The money we save on mortgages and credit card payments would go back into the economy. So the answer is NOT to give more money to the banks, the answer is to get rid of debt by telling the banks to go to Hell.
I feel like we don't matter. our heating cost went up from $150 a month to $350. Our groceries are up about $100 a month. Our rent went up by $150 a month. They layed off 50 people at my husband's company and put a wage freeze on everyone else. The oil man made another delivery last week and the bill was $4.49 a gallon. How can that be when oil is less than $50 a barrel? Someone is still getting rich and we are getting squeezed out. If they give the people an incentive we'd be stupid to use to to buy some large appliance we don't need. I heard someone say that the solution isn't to get the middle class to live within it's means...it to to give us BACK our means. 10 years ago we were comfortable....today we are worried. Next year our daughter hope to head to college. How are we going to do that?
I am a qualified and extremely competent computer-trained administrative professional of over 20 years. I lost my job over a year ago and since then I have been searching the wantads EVERY DAY and applying for any and all administrative jobs to no avail (even jobs paying half of my last salary advertised as contract and offered WITHOUT benefits). Cobra was unaffordable, so I have been without health insurance all this time and expect to be without coverage for some time to come. To summarize this past year, I've had to sell my home at a loss (luckily, before going into foreclosure), liquidate and place all remaining belongings in rented storage, give up my beloved pets, swallow all pride, relocate 4 states away and move in with my aged parent. I still carry some indebtedness and am actively doing everything possible to pay it off as quickly as possible. I am SO weary of seeing blogs written by unsympathetics (whom I can only assume HAVE paying jobs) gripe about Americans having no pride and asking for bailouts. If it weren't for unemployment benefits (which are a pittance, but I thank God for that pittance nonetheless), I would be an even bigger burden on my family than I already am. Today is January 14th and come April 15th, I will have to find a way to pay the income tax due on the unemployment benefits I have been receiving all year. And the hits keep acomin' . . . . All I want is a job and some self-respect and both seem unattainable. I know there are alot of people out there in much worse shape, and I feel for them as well. It does not surprise me to see articles about increasing suicide rates in these troubling times. I've occasionally thought about it myself, but my family doesn't deserve to deal with that, so I don't. I don't want a bailout. I want a job. Someone please tell me, where are the jobs? It seems the wantads I'm reading are merely ghosts. Signed, Frustrated.
I agree, we ALL need the bailout. just "wipe all the slates clean" and lets all start over. Maybe we can start by keeping jobs here in the U.S. instead of sending them off to people who cant speak english and can only do half of the job, then send it back here for us to finish. I have been laid off from the largest telecommunications company in the world, and now, my husband may be getting "laid off" due to his IT department is sending all the work to India. Why? and for what? They are already here, sending their dollars back to them..We are the ONLY country in the world who doesn't want to keep jobs here and take care of their own. I have come to grips with the fact that we are not actually "free" . Only the "corporate America" is. They are the ones who have started this whole mess. If the jobs would have stayed here, and America looked after their own, we may not be in this deep of a hole. I believe "sweep off your own porch, before you go sweep off someone else's" Our country has never done that, and now it shows. the sad, really sad thing is, it is not going to get any better any time soon, and possibly not in any of our lifetimes.
