Perhaps the only bright spot in the current "crisis" is that the hole we are in is sufficiently wide and deep to forever bury the rotting corpse of Reagan/Thatcher economics.

Maybe Ahmadinejad was right. American is in delcine. We borrow more than we can afford. Capitalism unregulated leads to excesses. When the world stops leanding us money, then we're force to printing worthless paper. The American economy is based on borrowing money. Companies have to borrow moneyto make their payroll b'ce they don't get paid until net 30 or net 45 days. Most folks don't understand how the lending crunch will affect them beyond their 401K. But if it continues for a few weeks without a bailout, my bet is that folks will be seeing layoffs and furloughs at their work because companies can't afford the higher borrowing rates to make payroll. Capitalism can be brutal. Becareful in what you ask for.

The American public is getting what they deserve. They've over spent. They've over borrowed and many are living a life style they can not afford. This whole situation had to happen. The problem is they are like the spolled brats that mom and dad bails out of the mess they've made only to do it all over again. I really believe they should suffer awhile to learn what a dollar is really worth. I know others will suffer who don't deserve it but that is also the case with the bailout.

Thank goodness for Newt Gingrich. Someone willing to stand up for the American people. He also has no problem taking the arrows from wacky liberal journalist who revel in writing hit pieces against conservatives in order to elect the choosen one "Obama.

Interestingly, this is the first thing Gingrich has done that I ever agreed with - disagreeing with the bailout as initially planned.

For someone who once tried to call for the death penalty to anyone bringing a single ounce of marijuana over our borders (estimated street value: $320 or so), Newt's being surprisingly level-headed here - so to speak.

Oh, also: If McCain can't seem to make it to the debate Friday, why don't the VP candidates debate instead. I'm sure Biden could fill in on a moment's notice.

As noted last night this is like calling "time-out" in a game when the other team is on a run. Hopefully, the time out will cool things down a bit. This is John McCain being twitchy for effect. First Palin, now "suspending the campaign" and then CHICKENING OUT OF THE DEBATE! Republicans have to be looking at their nominee, scratching their heads and going "what the hell?"
