Perhaps the only bright spot in the current "crisis" is that the hole we are in is sufficiently wide and deep to forever bury the rotting corpse of Reagan/Thatcher economics.

Maybe Ahmadinejad was right. American is in delcine. We borrow more than we can afford. Capitalism unregulated leads to excesses. When the world stops leanding us money, then we're force to printing worthless paper. The American economy is based on borrowing money. Companies have to borrow moneyto make their payroll b'ce they don't get paid until net 30 or net 45 days. Most folks don't understand how the lending crunch will affect them beyond their 401K. But if it continues for a few weeks without a bailout, my bet is that folks will be seeing layoffs and furloughs at their work because companies can't afford the higher borrowing rates to make payroll. Capitalism can be brutal. Becareful in what you ask for.
The American public is getting what they deserve. They've over spent. They've over borrowed and many are living a life style they can not afford. This whole situation had to happen. The problem is they are like the spolled brats that mom and dad bails out of the mess they've made only to do it all over again. I really believe they should suffer awhile to learn what a dollar is really worth. I know others will suffer who don't deserve it but that is also the case with the bailout.
Thank goodness for Newt Gingrich. Someone willing to stand up for the American people. He also has no problem taking the arrows from wacky liberal journalist who revel in writing hit pieces against conservatives in order to elect the choosen one "Obama.
How much is circulation done at this liberal shill mag.
I see zero leadership in Washington. We have experts (Paulson and Bernanke) with bad ideas; a bunch of winps and wusses (the Dems); flame throwers (Gingrich and Co.); ineffectual incompetents (Bush); grandstanders (McCain) and finger-in-the-winders (Obama).
You called it correctly!
Do you realize that only 2.75% of total mortgages are in foreclosure? So how can you blame the economic disaster on a bad loaning practice?
willnotvoteobama,
you need to better take grade level math courses before understanding these topics. $85b for 200million gives $425 each. Now redo the math again.
Gingrich just wants to be a headliner again. He's a blowhard hipocrite. He should just fade into obscurity.
.....................................Bush is under attack by people of both political parties. I am amazed at how many Republicans are now attacking him on the economy......he seems to not be able to find much cover to protect himself from all that is being aimed at him.
as the liberals always say bush is a lame duck president ! its about time that the republican party makes headway in this issue because bush is being pushed and pulled by the dems because he's a lame duck !
newt for president ! he's is correct he unlike the dems did his homework and knows this bill is not good for the american people !
Who let the loser back in. Newt has been belittled, ridiculed, found out to be a hypocrite, a liar, a conniver, a charlatan, and a carpetbagger amongst other dubious personalty traits. He was finally booted out of Washington by his own party and rudely asked to never come back. Are the republicans that desperate? With John McCains' never ending self destruction mode it is no wonder at all.
Go ahead and stand up Chuck, let the people see you!
Clift!!
I think I like you... actually! I always have but more now than ever before :P
Newt is right on and so are your observations. Let's hope McCain spoke with Newt before he announced his trip back to Congress or has the same vision as Newt.
And than there is BO... "just tell me when you need me"
That fool couldn't lead a little league baseball team to the snack bar.
McCain hatches up a transparent ploy to try to halt his screaming dive in the polls, so, a month before the election he claims he is "suspending" his (losing) political campaign to rush off to Washington (where he isn't ON the key Senate Committees actually dealing with the financial crisis) to save the world, and "by the way, Barrack, why don't you suspend your (winning) campaign, too", he says, "and join me, leading the cameras up to capitol hill and getting in the way of any actual chance for progress on this issue". Right. That's "putting the country first" sure enough! Do you really not GET this cynical play by McCain?
A few points is hardly a "screaming dive". Stop your BS.
McSame is down on Fox News polls...
Isn't Fox Noise the official fluffer of the Republican party?
McCain is bazaar. But not as bazaar as people who would support his bazaarness. It is so bazaar that I have to snicker.
NEW GANGRINE...I MEAN NEWT GINGRICH, WHO IN TE HELL DOES HE THINKS HE IS? WE MEXICAN AMERICANS MAY CRAZY BECAUSE WE LIKE TO PARTY, BUT WE ARE NOT STUPID...I REPEAT GRINGO, I MEAN GINGRICH, WE ARE NOT STUDPID. GRINGRICH THINKS THAT HE IS PULLING THE WOOL OVER THE AMERICAN VOTERS EYES BY SELLING PALIN AS AN EXERIENCED POLITICIAN JUST BECAUSE SHE WAS A MAYOR OF A RINKI DINKI LITTLE TOWN OF WASILLA AND THE LITTLE RINK DINKIE LITTLE STATE OF ALASKA THAT PROBABLY HAS MORE WOLVES AND POLAR BEARS THAN PEOPLE.
IN MY OPINION...COMON NOW NEWT. YOU ARE A HAS-BEEN REPROCRAT WHO IS TRYING TO SELL THE AMERICAN VOTERS AN APPLE BY CALLING IT A BANANA: CROOKED. YOUR PALIN, THE LIER AND INCOMPETENT AND INEXPERIENCED IN FOREIGN AFFARIS, COULD LEAD US INTO WORLD WAR III IF THE McCPALIN TICKET TO NOWHERE SHOULD WIN, GOD FORBID.
HAS ANYONE EVER TOLD YOU MR. GREENWHICH, THAT YOU ARE DOING A DISSERVICE FOR AMERICA BY INFLATING PALIN'S IMAGE WHEN IN REALITY, SHE IS NOT WORTH YOUR WORDS. YOU ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN McBRAINLES: HALF-TRUTH AND HALF-LIES.
WHAT? AM I GOING TO VOTE FOR THE McPALIN TICKET TO NOWHERE?
HELL NO!...THANKS, BUT NO THANKS! VOTE DEMOCRAT: OBAMA/BIDEN...THE BEST CHOICE ...THE ONLY CHOICE...WHEN THE DEMOCRATS WIN ...THE PEOPLE WIN!
ISN'T IT GREAT TO HEAR THE REPUBLICANS PLAY THE RACE CARD AGAIN ? NOW BLAMING MINORITY HOMEOWNERSHIP FOR THE ECONOMIC CRISIS(NEIL CAVUTO, O'REILLY, HANNITY, RUSH....ETC) NEVER MIND THE FACT THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR HOMES AND THE LENDERS WHO GAVE OUT THE LOANS WERE WHITE............................JUST F'N HILARIOUS.
Interestingly, this is the first thing Gingrich has done that I ever agreed with - disagreeing with the bailout as initially planned.
For someone who once tried to call for the death penalty to anyone bringing a single ounce of marijuana over our borders (estimated street value: $320 or so), Newt's being surprisingly level-headed here - so to speak.
Oh, also: If McCain can't seem to make it to the debate Friday, why don't the VP candidates debate instead. I'm sure Biden could fill in on a moment's notice.
As noted last night this is like calling "time-out" in a game when the other team is on a run. Hopefully, the time out will cool things down a bit. This is John McCain being twitchy for effect. First Palin, now "suspending the campaign" and then CHICKENING OUT OF THE DEBATE! Republicans have to be looking at their nominee, scratching their heads and going "what the hell?" Cause McCain is proving he doesn't have the stuff to be President.
For once, I agree with this Fathead. That'll about do it though....
"But he never lost his skill as a strategist."
He never lost it because he never had it to begin with. Being a blowhard is not a strategy.
