Comment: The beautiful thing about America is that you have freedom of speech and can support whichever candidate you want to. But for the past few weeks I've been listening to people speak, and going into chat forums like this to read what people are thinking, and what really scares...and irritates me...is how much misinformation there is out there, especially about Obama. The American public is so misinformed it's tragic. People are believing the crappy McCain ads that they see on TV, and the hilarious chain emails that have been going around. And they've been taking them as gospel and using it to base their decision on who to vote for. Are you kidding me?

Get your facts straight before you start spewing ignorance. Get your facts straight before you start calling people names. Get your facts straight before you go to the polls.

I'm a Dem and a woman and a minority...but I didn't vote for Hillary in the primaries because I didn't believe her platform. I've read the websites of both McCain and Obama...and you know what? McCain has been doing such a "slight of hand" trick on people that you're not seeing what's really happening, what he really stands for. Absolutely nothing.

And Sarah Palin? Are you serious? If that woman becomes president we're all screwed. Is there racism involved in these elections? Of course there is! If Sarah Palin had been Obama's running mate, and had been black, or asian, or hispanic, and her 17 year-old daughter was pregnant, do you think the Reps would have applauded her for keeping the baby and said "everyone makes mistakes?" Ummm...let's see? NO! They would have crucified her in the media! The woman just got a passport last year...she's never been outside of the US...but she wants to talk about foreign policy? Now she's doing a photo op at the United Nations...give me a break people.

People will vote for whomever they choose, that's the great thing about democracy. But I just had to get this off my chest because it's been driving me nuts.

Alright...let the ugly comments begin! .........................

You are correct, both sides need to stop and think, respect another persons position even if it does not agree with yours. I am also a woman, small business owner, and would not have voted for Hilliary. To be truthful I am not sure who I will vote for this time. I would like to vote for McCain and Biden, I do believe experience counts and I suupose there are things in Obama's past that bother me, actually not what he tells me today but those people he considered mentors by his own account.

THE ONE THING OBAMA GUARENTEES, IS HE LISTENS,LEARNS,AND ADAPTS [TODAY CALLED FLIP FLOP] IF HIS ASSOCIATES FROM HIS PAST ARE A CONCERN, HAS HE DISPLAYED ANY OF THE SAME TRAITS, ,OR SHOWS HE LEARNED FROM HIS MISTAKES, AND IS BOLD ENOUGH TO ADMITT IT. UNLIKE THE ATTACK ADDS DON'T STATE.

Obama is hardly in hiding! He held FIVE rallies yesterday in Florida, spoke at Clinton's initiative in NY, AND went to Washington, flying in BEFORE MCCain did. He doesn't need to hide. He actually can remember what his platform is and what his plans are. He doesn't need prompting. He doesn't need a nap before the debate!

What depressed me, a lot, was that Sen. McCain--who has a good record on political reform and unwise tax cuts--hired Mr. Schmidt (Karl Rove's deputy) to run his campaign, and former-Senator Phil Graham to be his top economic advisor.
Former Texas Senator Graham, the champion of De-Regulation and a lobbyist for UBS-DB (a large German-Swiss Bank), was often called the "Senator from Enron," when he was in the Senate.
Sen. McCain is too close to "bidness', particularly the oil bidness, for me.
In comparison, Sen. Obama seems to be more of a grownup.

Responding to Really....are you serious....I agree very much about your remarks regarding lies & mis-information being reported & believed. I am a white, middle class, senior whO supported Hillary as I have admired her for her actions before she came into the white house & as the First Lady. I also worked on her campaign in our local primary. When she dropped out, I immediately threw my support to Obama, as I realized his platform & issues were very much alike. I learned more about him, & have been working locally on his campaign & donated as much as I can in $10 to $30 increments. I've ordered campaign "gear" to give to people as I campaign. WHAT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IS THE FEMALE HILLARY SUPPORTERS WHO HAVE NOT BACKED OBAMA---I FEEL THEY ARE PLAYING THE "RACE" CARD. THEY CAN'T SERIOUSLY BELIEVE MCFIBBER & LAME DAME WOULD MAKE A BETTER CHOICE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE ! FACE IT --OBAMA IS MORE EDUCATED, MORE ARTICULATE, MORE UNDERSTADING OF THE NEEDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND MORE TRUSTWORTHY IN WORKING FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AS WELL AS TACKLING THE MANY ISSUES FACING THIS NATION.

  • Posted By: lamm01 @ 09/26/2008 4:39:26 PM

Let's face it. During the worst financial crisis this country has faced in decades, Obama is hidden in a secret location trying to figure out how to speak without a teleprompter.... Why doesn't he send one of Hollywood friends to bodydouble for him tonight....

John McCain is an avid reader and is known for rereading many works of his favorite authors. The favorite author of John McCain is Herman Wouk who has written The Winds of War and the Caine Mutiny. Wouk served as an executive Naval officer aboard a minesweeper during War War II. Victor Henry the main character in Winds of War was a naval officer who became a confidant both to FDR and Harry Truman. FDR and Harry Truman went outside the normal channels of military command and relied on Victor Henry for straight talk advice on how to approach Russia and Germany and Japan prior and during World War II. John McCain sees himself as the Victor Henry character who understood the nuances of war and foreign policy better than anyone. John McCain is more knowledgeable about foreign policy than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama combined due to his military experiences. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have no military background between them and do not even have the background to know who to connect with to get straight back channel information. Barack Obama and Joe Biden lack the knowledge to even ask the right questions even if they could line up a current day Pug Henry commander to give them the straight scoop. Herman Wouk wove history into his novels. There is saying that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat history. John McCain knows history and will use that knowledge to guide the United States through the tough challenges that we face in the war on terror, radical Islam and dealing with a resurgent Russia.

        • Posted By: Cycoblitz @ 09/26/2008 4:25:46 PM

Sounds like you're a biographer. Too bad being a POW doesn't make you an expert on foreign policy. If your ideals are cracked, they're still dangerous.

        • Posted By: xanabella @ 09/26/2008 4:07:56 PM

If McCain is such an "avid reader", how come he couldn't read the two and a half pages of the Bernanke "proposal". What a joke.

  • Posted By: in debt to the company store @ 09/26/2008 4:13:42 PM

When McCain says, "If I were president today," he's obviously referring to the decision he'd make on that particular day.

McCain has been the true leader in this whole mess - Osama has been sitting on the edge campaigning while McCain trys to save the country

    • Posted By: Cycoblitz @ 09/26/2008 4:37:39 PM

Oh, true leader. Lies daily, flips daily, Hasn't bothered to read the exact plan he went to DC to fix. True leader. Wanted to up and fire the SEC guy. That's really leadership. Oh yeah. The economy is fundamentally strong. then Crash. Oh yeah, true leader. What did Obama say about the bailout? Let's wait and see what we can do and look at all options. Spoken like a true leader. What did McCain say? Let's bail them out with no responsibility or comment. Those who are taken in by the one who was instrumental in putting us here in the dark place are the ones who will be regreting like the ones that elected Bush. Now he was a true leader. Where was he yesterday. Not to be found.

    • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/26/2008 2:00:23 PM

What the hell are you talking about? McCain didn't suspend anything and every media outlet including FOx has said as much. And then they had the meeting he so desperately wanted and he DIDN"T SAY A WORD. He didn't even present an idea of what we should do. That's not leadership.

And if you are going to try to be coy about Obama's name then you are below the intelligence level of this discussion. Please go back to FAUX news boards.

      • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/26/2008 2:13:32 PM

No, McCain suspended his campaign and went to Washington. BTW, we're all glad you attended the meeting and could report the minutes back to us as to who said what.

        • Posted By: Redburn @ 09/26/2008 4:11:42 PM

It was reported that McCain said nothing until the end of the meeting and then what he offered at the end was very vague...

He continued to run ads, have conference calls, send surrogates on TV, collect donations, etc. That is a campaign in full force. Don't buy his lies.

          • Posted By: xanabella @ 09/26/2008 4:02:23 PM

I'm an undecided. I find these forums incredibly hostile. Few of you are doing your candidate justice an I suspect that both candidates would be disgusted by your venom. That said, what I've seen recently is an erratic McCain. He keeps throwing irrelevant distractions into the presidential campaign. My guess is that 8 years ago, McCain would've been a much better choice than Bush. But now, he just doesn't appear consistent or even stable. Obama, on the other hand, speaks with authority, calmness and actually presents concrete ideas for improvement and change. If I am to believe what BOTH men are saying, it's Obama who makes so much more sense. McCain & Palin are a lot of rhetoric, with no substance. I'd like to vote for McCain, but between his ill-choice for a running mate, not allowing her to speak to the public, his "creating" the Blackberry, the "fundamentals are strong" nonsense, de-regulation/regualtion swings, now this staged suspension of his campaign ... it's just so clear that he's erratic and will make bad choices once in office. It's sad because I think that he was once a very viable candidiate. My research tells me that Obama is a man of great character, strength & vision.

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 09/26/2008 1:51:18 PM

You really sound like an undecided.

      • Posted By: janieclark @ 09/26/2008 1:58:54 PM

I'm a registered Republican but I'm leaning left. And frankly, you're not posting ANYTHING to help me change my mind.

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 09/26/2008 2:03:12 PM

I am not trying to change your mind. Most certainly if you believe that Obama is all those things you stated then vote for him. After my research, I do not believe that he is someone I can support. But that is what is great about this country. We all have a right to make our own decisions. Good luck with yours.

          • Posted By: Redburn @ 09/26/2008 4:28:24 PM

        • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/26/2008 2:05:40 PM

I say this to people at work including Republicans and most agree. If you're religious to the point of believing that your views should be the country's and/or rich enough that you believe paying more in taxes to help the less fortunate is tatamount to treason then by all means vote republican. If not then vote democrat.

          • Posted By: paproudmom @ 09/26/2008 2:34:11 PM

Actually we have a small business where my husband has put on average 80 hours a week for over 25 years. We believe in helping others. We are religious but don't impose our beliefs on others. We worked for what we have and do not want the government to take from others to help us. We are not feel envy towards people who have more than us. That makes us Republicans.

            • Posted By: dmspeech @ 09/26/2008 2:48:22 PM

Guess what? My husband has a small business and works comparable hours. I work in public schools but could be making 3 times my salary in the private sector. I volunteer 10 hours a week. I attend church services but don't impose my religious beliefs on others. There are plenty of people who have more than I do but I say thanks for being an American every day. That makes me a Democrat.

    • Posted By: blackcourt @ 09/26/2008 2:00:33 PM

If you want the United States to become a socialist state by all means support Obama. Bigger government, more taxes, redistribution of wealth, its all on his agenda.

      • Posted By: xanabella @ 09/26/2008 4:13:49 PM

Bigger Government?! Are you kidding? You obviously are unaware that the Bush Administration has undertaken the biggest increase in executive power since the new deal.

If you neo-cons ever took the extra effort to think for yourselves instead of spouting "talking points" you would know that your own party doesn't exhibit the qualities your looking for.

      • Posted By: janieclark @ 09/26/2008 2:06:36 PM

I don't remember reading any of those ideas on Obama's webpage. In fact a lot of what I read was the opposite, like the reduction in taxes for 95% of Americans making less than $250K (that includes me). That actually implies a redistribution of wealth to the middles class (again, me).

        • Posted By: russianmaksim @ 09/26/2008 3:05:29 PM

do me a favor if you never lived in socialst state don't talk, I have(soviet union). Plus you already gave socialistic programs in US Gov. do some research then come back with something smarter and not ignorant

        • Posted By: HockeyMom18 @ 09/26/2008 2:59:18 PM

The tax break you will be getting or the $l,000 he has spoken about will come from taxing those who make more than you and small businesses, This is wealth redistribution, take from the wealthy and give to the less fortunate. The money has to come from somewhere.

        • Posted By: AskPlus @ 09/26/2008 2:18:27 PM

And the senate is already re-working economic policy to parallel his ideas.

  • Posted By: HollyD27 @ 09/26/2008 11:37:42 AM

Come on people ... start putting two and two together! I know it's difficult for some, but, we're talking about the future of this country!

Of course Obama wants to debate. He has no real concern over the economy! He has enough money to "ride out the financial storm"! Do you?

Let's see: look into Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson. You say "Who?" You know ... the two former Fannie Mae CEOs who are campaign advisors and contributors to Obama's campaign!

Let's see smart Americans: Obama took the second largest amount of campaign finance money from Fannie Mae contributed to Congressional leaders at a whopping $126,000. McCain took in $22,000. Doesn't add up does it?

SO, sit back and think what you want about the great debater King ... I mean Obama ... and figure out if you would rather risk losing everything or watch Obama debate!

For me, it's a no brainer! Make Obama go back to the Senate chambers and start working for a change! This is a big deal for him - HE ACTUALLY HAD TO SHOW UP FOR WORK!

    • Posted By: nataliefite @ 09/26/2008 12:31:04 PM

Thanks for your comments, it's refreshing to see someone with a clear head to see and speak the truth. Everyone else these days is so blind-sighted by the glitz and glamour and can't look any other direction than left.

It doesn't matter what John McCain does it was always be wrong. Can you imagine if Barack Hussein Obama would have decided to put off the debate to put the country firtst! Oh my gosh he would have been praised and praised for being so freakin' great. Anything McCain does will always be portrayed by the media as wrong. He can't catch a break. Let's face it BHO only wants to debate so bad because he has studied so much, and doesn't want to forget anything! What a mess America is face. If people would really dig deep into Obama's life and association and really look at the facts he wouldn't be where he is at right now....

MCCAIN/PALIN 2008!!!!! The safest choice for America!

Your John Sidney McCain III used to be an honorable man. After the Keating Five scandal he changed into a bitter old crmugeon. That coupled with Rove style campaigning and it is really sad to see him fall so far. I used his full name since you used the full name of his opponent. Is't that only fair. We aren't doing this as scare tactics are we? Just trying to give honest opinions.

Are you as ignorant as you sound? Open your eyes and ears. McCain is posturing to save a dying campaign. His ploy to skip the debate and "put America First" is as transparent as a window pane. Like many other sheep in this country, you mistake Obama's deliberateness for indecision. After 8 years of W, I can understand that you wouldn't recognize intelligence, but Obama is the most qualified person to run for president since Bill Bradley. You want elitism - look at the Republican Party, who fiddles while Rome burns. These guys have their money put aside. They may have lost thousands, but compared to their millions, that is peanuts. Employees of Enron, AIG, GM, WaMU, etc... - these are the people who are losing their shirts because they were forced to follow their employer's lead and own company stock. Now, watch the big bonuses be paid to honchos which layoffs cascade through these organizations.

  • Posted By: Once you try to deceive @ 09/26/2008 3:30:07 PM

The media continues to push Obama in spite of public outrage over how McCain is treated by them. Ask yourself this question, why did'nt the headline say "McCain gets ready to Rumble?" He was the one who did not plan to attend due to the mess in Washington. Typical for Newsweek and MSNBC.

    • Posted By: xanabella @ 09/26/2008 3:42:06 PM

      um, are you kidding!?

The article is about Obama rehearsing for the debate, if McCain was rehearsing for the debate rather than doing photo-ops in Washington then maybe that could have been the title of the ad. You comment is like reading an article about "why apples are good for you" and saying, "why didn't they talk about why Oranges are good for you"!?

Another neo-con desperately suggesting that the media is unfair because their candidate is unraveling before their very eyes.

THE KEATING 5 WOULD MAKE FOR GREAT READING, BUT OBAMA HAS NOT DROPPED THAT ON MCCAIN. MCCAIN ATTACKS WITH NO SUBSTANCE, AND OBAMA STATES HIS HOPE FOR OUR FURTURE,NO ATTACKS,YET OR EVER SO FAR! • Posted By: JC0101 @ 09/26/2008 2:59:45 PM

A lot of people are rightly intimidated by those who want to push their morals on others. It is one thing to simply express your opinion. The problem is people on the right are using the legislatures and courts to push their personal religious values on people who hold different values.

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 09/26/2008 3:38:52 PM

I was an undecided until recently. When this whole economic "crisis" came to the forefront, I started realizing....The republicans, starting with Bush, Bernanky (sp?), and Paulson, anted to bail out the fatcats on Wall Street with absolutely no oversight, and no questions asked. That was their plan. Sen. Obama wants to tax the upper 5% of the wealthiest persons and give money back to the other 95% of the people in this country. I realized that the "R's" are for the rich, and the "D's" are for the rest of the people. I'm one of the "rest of the people" so for the sake of my family, I HAVE to vote for Obama.

Even independent tax watchdog grouips say that while McCain wants to lower taxes on ALL people, it would be the top 5% of the wealthiest people who would benefit the most and get the largest tax breaksand the rest of would benefit the least and get the smallest tax breaks. With Obama's plan the opposite is true....the lower 95% of the poplulation would benefit the most and the top 5% would be taxed a bit more. Like I said, I'm in the lower 95% tier and I need that money to take care of my family a whole lot more than Rockeffeler (sp?), or any of the other fatcats

The State stopped paying the towns for the kits, the town did not charge the victims another missunderstanding but the media, they cleared that up the other night on CNN.
