Steve Waugh: A vote for Nader is vote for ideals
    Steve Waugh ??? 9/27/2008 6:48 am

Dear Editor: The religious fervor with which people embrace Obama's campaign baffles me. At once, Obama promises to withdraw all combat troops from Iraq and promises to maintain the occupation, leaving the commitment to the wars open ended. McCain will speak of staying there 100 years. On the one hand, he says he will bring home combat troops, all the while promising to maintain the U.S. military presence. Obama also promises to increase the military budget and escalate the war in Afghanistan.

Most of my friends want peace. Why not work for a candidate who says flat out that he will cut military spending and stop the war? Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzales make that commitment in their campaign.

Eighty percent of the respondents to Tammy Baldwin's survey this summer said that we need comprehensive health reform in this country. Obama's health plan resembles the plan George Bush proposed two years ago. Nader and Gonzales say they will work for a single-payer health care system. Why not work for that?

The Democrats have refused to stand up to the current administration and hold it accountable for its misdeeds and violations of our Constitution. Like a passive-aggressive teenager, they wait for the Bush administration's end and hope that the Democrats can win the election in November. That's their campaign slogan: "Hope."

Why not work for a country that we can be proud of instead of settling for the least worst option? Learn about Ralph Nader's candidacy. Why not support someone who represents your ideals?

I simply cannot understand that there could be a doubt about who won the debate .
Just by comparing misstatements it is clear that it is Obama...to take just this one example.

Were you disgusted by the sound bite debate you had to endure last night? Did you wish there was someone on stage who was actually addressing substantive issues instead of trading resumes and platitudes? Outraged by the fact that third parties are deliberately and systematically excluded from public discourse and that millions of Americans consequently don't know that they can vote for real reform?

If you are, sign up to join Freedom Writers, the Nader campaign to end media bigotry by demanding that radio, television and newspaper stations cover third party candidates. We need you to help us break through the media blockade and bring real issues and solutions to the people!

If you think about it John McCain plan for forty-five new nuclear power plants is reasonable, needed and attainable. Our current 108 nuclear power plants supply twenty (20) percent of our electricity requirements. This is amazing considering that it has been thirty years since there has been new construction on new nuclear power plants anywhere in the United States. Construction on new nuclear power plants has occurred throughout the world but not in the United States thanks to Democratic leadership. In France, nuclear power supplies 80 percent of their electricity needs. Because 108 nuclear power plants are generating twenty percent of our needs, an additional 45 nuclear power plants will only increase the percentage of nuclear power to roughly 28 percent of our needs well short of French eighty percent nuclear power generation of electricity. John McCain proposals are reasonable and will help lead us to energy independence. Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to study the issue for another 30 years. By that time the only remaining United States builder of nuclear power plants General Electric will have gone the way of Westinghouse and sold its nuclear construction division to a foreign owned company Toshiba Corporation of Japan. Given the Democratic led hostile business environment for nuclear power in the United States, we will have no United States owned companies capable of building nuclear power plants.

The reality is that a few nuclear power plants will have a greater contribution to our relative energy independence than all the combined contributions of solar, wind, and thermal energy. Only the proposals of John McCain on nuclear power, offshore drilling, wind, and solar energy will make the idea of a relative United States energy independence a reality.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/28/2008 2:07:59 PM

Until there is a plan in place to contain nuclear waste, I don't think we can have a discussion about increasing the number of nuclear power plants. They may well be safe and effective -- but no one wants them in their backyard. John McCain is quite willling to burying the waste in Nevade -- but he does not want it even passing through Arizone. I wonder why?

Get 10 or 12 communities to volunteer to host a nuclear power plant and you might have the beginnings of a discussion. But before those talks get very far along, you better decide what you want to do with the waste.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 12:24:50 PM

First, Congress became disenchanted with nuclear after Three Mile Island and Chernobyl. I personally think that the reaction there was alarmist, but this is a country that seems to thrive on adrenaline rushes. In any case, you are correct that its time to give nuclear another look as part of a comprehensive energy plan. The problem of waste remains, but I think new reactor designs (already designed) will help offset that by using degraded fuel and that safe disposal is possible of the rest. But what hat you pull a supposed solely Democratic hostility toward nuclear out of is not clear. RepubliCONs had control of the House from 1994 to 2006, and had control of House and Senate for part of that time, yet things did not get noticeably friendlier toward nuclear power no matter who was in charge.

Second your contention that their will be no US owned companies that do nuclear. Really, this is just opinion on your part, unless you have a crystal ball and have seen the future. General Electric is a widely diversified company, who will most likely keep nuclear reactor expertise onboard as long as they run the Electric Boat Division.

      Finally your conclusion:

"The reality is that a few nuclear power plants will have a greater contribution to our relative energy independence than all the combined contributions of solar, wind, and thermal energy."

This just pure hogwash. Thousands of Gigawatts are available from both solar, wind, tidal, and geothermal. Enough to power the United States for a millennium. Millions of Gigawatts if you want to talk about space based solar. Developing energy resources that don't deplete is a no brainer. Any six year old can understand that if you drink from a glass that is refilled every time you pause, you won't run out.

"Only the proposals of John McCain on nuclear power, offshore drilling, wind, and solar energy will make the idea of a relative United States energy independence a reality."

I don't see an ounce of support for this statement in your previous statements. Let's just call it what it is - an unpaid political ad. You know as well as I do that McCain's no maverick, he's just erratic. He's voted, as the article details 11 times against alternative energy and then has the either the balls or maybe senility, I can't tell which, to state before the nation that he has never voted against alternative energy

JUST WATCHED FOX TODAY AND HENRY KISSINGER DID NOT AGREE TO HAVE A MEETING WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS. HE ACTULLY AGREES WIH MCCAIN. YOU GUYS NEED TO WATCH FOX AND SEE AND HEAR FOR YOUR SELVES. THIS WAS ON FOX VIA A PHONE CONFERENCE.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 1:10:59 PM

You really don't read articles very well do you, Lori? It was all included in the fact check article, even the part where King Henry said he agreed with McCain. Only thing is, a reflective person finds Kissinger's post debate comments and McCains in debate distinctions to be just a little disingenuous.

    • Posted By: mmcgee @ 09/27/2008 9:51:49 PM

Just because McCain has encouraged Kissenger to get back on the loop 'de' loop express and get with McCain's story doesn't discount what he said. Millions saw a news clip of Kissenger supporting presidential level talks with Iran within the first year of office.

      • Posted By: LORI WASHINGTON STATE @ 09/27/2008 10:24:05 PM

KISSINGER SAID TODAY THAT LOWER LEVELS OF AUTHORITY WOULD FIRST, I REPEAT FIRST TALK THEN WHEN A DEAL WAS CLOSE THEN AND I REPEAT THEN THE PRES WOULD BE ENGAGED. THERE WAS NO TIME FRAME MENTIONED TODAY ON FOX. YOU REALLY NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH AND WATCH FOX NEWS. THEY REPORT THE FACTS AND THE TRUTH.

        • Posted By: topknot5 @ 09/27/2008 10:33:03 PM

Fox has always been completely on the right. Of course you are going to see what you want to see if you are republican watching Fox News. Why do you think that Fox is the only thing allowed by the current administration? I suggest, Lori, that you go out and expand your mind. Check out several OTHER news sites. You will learn that what you see on Fox is ALWAYS right sided. Maybe you should go to wikipedia and read the info on ALL 4 candidates. Telling people to watch Fox news and get enlightened is rather naieve, no offence. Spread your wings a little. It wont hurt you and heck, you may come out of this a little more educated on the aspects on ALL the candidates, other then what you have been spoon fed by Fox. Good luck sweetie!

            • Posted By: topknot5 @ 09/28/2008 9:56:29 AM

Lori~ You think McCain really wants to protect this country? Maybe he does at any cost. Have you seen his voting record AGAINST the troops and veterans? Desipite his "I'm gonna protect, fight for, cuddle with the troops and veterans" talk, his voting record against them stinks. I'm assuming the reason he not-so-straight talks is because he assumes if he comes across sympathetic to the troops and veterans, it will con people into voting for him. I'll give you 2 examples, out of the many, in regards to his voting style.

When a proposal came up to fund for more helmuts, tents, and bullet proof inlays..........McCain voted to table the vote (which means to deny the proposal, put an end to the dicussion and never bring it up again. You can look up the definition of table voting if you would like).

When a proposal came up for funding veteran hospitals.........McCain voted against it.

There are numerous others that I dont have the space an energy for. So basically McCain wants us to stay in this war but not protect our troops? Thats a great idea! Thanks John McCain for caring so much for our families and husbands. OH PLEASE!

They are proposing a great new plan for the G.I. bill. McCain is against it.

Did you know the support for Obama over McCain for military and for veterans is about 6 to 1? Check out veteransforcommonsense.org.

              http://www.veteransforcommonsense.org/articleid/9559

As a wife oof a military man, a woman who knows her stuff about ALL four candidates, and someone who cares about our troops and veterans..... I cannot, I WILL NOT vote for McCain. Thanks but no thanks McCain.

This military family for Obama/Biden 2008.

              Thanks for listening

Considering you keep referring to "you Americans" I'm gonna guess you aren't American so you won't be voting for either one. How will McCain protect America anyway?

He could further deregulate the industry.
He could complete selling America off to China.
He could crash a few more of our planes.
He could put a few more lobbyists in control.
He could give out a few more no-bid contracts to his cronies.
He could get involved in a third savings in loan scandal.
He could continue to give useless speeches where he reminds us "his friends" that he was a POW and is somehow a maverick.
              or
He could drop out, take his 72 year old butt home and spend the rest of his days drinking his wife's beer, and enjoying his well endowed blond barbie doll of a wife.

Amen - some Fox loving folks think McCain is good for "us Americans" - they probably also think that Bush walks on water - or at least Fox would like them to think that way.

        • Posted By: mmcgee @ 09/27/2008 11:03:57 PM

You really need to do your own research instead of spewing the GOP talking points fed to you by Rupert Murdoch. If you had paid attention Obama stated that preparation would be required and that lower level talks would be required before getting up to the presidential level. Kissinger stated "presidential level" discussion should be engaged within the first year of office. You can hammer away at things all you want. You can live in fantasy, but if you want to talk foreign policy experience McCain can't hold a candle to Kissinger. Kissinger is foreign policy, McCain is Keating 5, savings and loan scandals and lobbyists.
You might want to ask yourself who is the better leader : The one who will at least listen to someones complaints or the one that says "I'm won't talk to you until you do exactly as I say and if you don't like it I'm taking my toys and going home". Noone ever stated you had to agree with someone just because you are meeting with them and neither Obama nor Kissinger stated anything to the effect.
Look at it from this perspective : You can't win the lottery without playing, and you can't make friends and work out problems if you won't talk.
I might also suggest you fix your caps lock, it appears to be stuck in the on position.

Good Luck convincing people that they didn't hear what they heard....and we clearly heard Osama say that Kissinger would advocate a President meeting with TERRORIST STATES... How many times does Kissinger have to clarify the fact that he NEVER SAID THAT!!!!!! He would advocte lower level meetings.
SO, no matter what you try to convince us that we hear....WE KNOW A SNAKE WHEN we see one//

I watched the Forum with the 5 former Sec. of states and Kissinger most certainly said he would agree to meeting with Iran without conditions, either McCain has got kissinger flip flopping for him or Henry needs to increase the dosage of his medication.

Actually, when he says that we are sending $700 billion a year "to countries that don't like us very much," he could be discussing our ENTIRE import bill, oil plus everything else, as well as the money that goes overseas through financing our debt. I note that NOWHERE in the debate did John McCain actually say that we were spending $700 billion on foreign oil nor foreign aid, simply that we were sending $700 billion abroad to "countries that don't like us much."

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 12:55:53 PM

So that would include Canada, Mexico, Brittan, Taiwan, the rest of the Common Market countries, and Japan? Funny, prior to Dubya, those countries liked us just fine.

Even according to your transcripts, Sen. Obama that he was talking about direct and immediate Presidential contacts with Iran without pre-conditions.

"McCain: By the way, my friend, Dr. Kissinger, who's been my friend for 35 years, would be interested to hear this conversation and Senator Obama's depiction of his -- of his positions on the issue. I've known him for 35 years.
Obama: We will take a look.
McCain: And I guarantee you he would not -- he would not say that presidential top level.
    Obama: Nobody's talking about that."

Why don't you point that out? It is disingenuous that Kissinger would agree wholeheartedly with McCain, when it turns out that Obama actually had gotten it right....

Senator Obama did an excellenct job. I feel confident that he will be a great president. McCain's temperament was showing. He seems to feel entitled to the office of preisdent and did not treat Senator Obama with respect. I am looking forward to having Senator Obama and Senator Biden running our country.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 12:49:40 PM

Well he is entitled. All the reversals of convictions he had to go through. All the a** kissing with various RepubliCON factions. And having to kneel and kiss Dubya's ring for the 2004 elections, that took the cake. Any man puts himself through all that should have the Presidency, according to RepubliCON mores. Not mores I share BTW. Let the best man win, and its not McCain. He's no Maverick, he's just erratic.

I am writing this message to inform people of the injustice being perpretrated by Fox News against Barack Obama. For the past two weeks there has been nothing but negative reporting against senator Obama by the Fox News network, which is unfair to listeners and the candidate. This networks seemingly biased opinions are not of interest to us viewers. My concern is that negative reporting like this will influence voters that are undecided of which candidate best express their wishes. I depend on these news stations for fair, accurate and just reporting regardless of the outcome whether it be a debate or any other current event and if that cant be accomplished I feel that it is grounds for that station (Fox News network) to be boycotted until they learn and understand that those types of injustices will not be tolerated. If anyone else can relate to the unfair reporting of Fox News I suggest that you join us in a boycott of this news station. PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 12:43:32 PM

Really this is not a problem. People that get a regular diet of "Fair and Balanced" reporting are in McCain's camp anyhow. Why would anyone be surprised that Roger Ailes's newsroom is trying to trash Obama? Murdoch wanted a propaganda arm, I'm surprised he didn't hire Rush Limbaugh as President of Fox News.

    • Posted By: ICYEYES800 @ 09/28/2008 4:15:35 AM

Is that some kind of sick joke????? From the inception of this political season, every news media has been pushing Obama down our throats...lying, cheating, and making him appear to be the "Messiah"...So, if you are just finding out that there is a network that's willing to tell the TRUTH, where in the hell have you been since the last election????? Wow, talk about out of touch with reality...didn't you hear Obama suggested that people watch the debate on CNN, because they are BIG OBAMA SUPPORTERS....You're a little late with your yelling "WOLF".....

  • Posted By: shepporoni @ 09/28/2008 12:43:14 PM

I love these fact checks. It's too bad they can't be recorded instantaneously while the debate is actually going on. If we could have ticker tapes going on the bottom of the screen while a program is on, why can't we do something like this during the debates. For people to make informed decisions, they need the truth. It's something in short supply these days in America.

    jArcher1:::::

Why should Barack Obama insist that the removing the ban should be part of a comprehensive energy ban? Why should it be a bargaining chip. It is the right and appropriate thing to do and should not used as a Democratic leadership fillibuster or extorsion tool to extract concessions on other issues. The math on offshore area is correct. Total onshore is 3.4 million square miles. East coast offshore area is 840,000 square miles alone. Add the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific west coast, offshore area of Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico and you have 4.4 square miles.

The current gas lines and closed gas stations with no gas in the Southeast including Georgia and North Carolina are just a prelude of what we can expect under Barack Obama and Joe Biden energy policies of limited offshore exploration and no new refineries. Although these gas lines are an immediate result of the recent hurricane Ike that hit Galveston and the Gulf coast, they are indicative of the tenuous nature of our refinery capacity and existing supplies of petroleum. Our refineries have been stretched to their limits for decades. Do you think, oil companies are going to invest in the future in new refineries in the United States given the tepid Democratic Party leadership support of the oil industry and their insistence on mandates for alternative energy sources. Oil companies would have to be crazy to invest even a nickel in new refineries or even do basic repairs to existing refineries. I hope all the people currently driving around looking for gas are real diehard Obama supporters otherwise they may just question the energy policies of their leader and realize their tire air pressure guage is not going to help them with an empty gas tank.
President Jimmy Carter used to say the same thing while he wore his trademark sweaters and said that we needed to turn the thermostat down and put on our sweaters to stay warm. I think a lot of independent voters are not happy with Democratic Party energy policies. People do not like to stand in gas lines or have to push their cars.

It is also a shame that the gas lines and empty gas stations are mainly in the southeast which will become Redstates for McCain/Palin next month. It would be more poetic justice that the blue states of the northeast should suffer from the gas shortages caused by their Democratic leadership. The northeast has been lockstep in their opposition to offshore oil drilling, nuclear power, clean coal, and even wind energy in the Massachusetts Bay area.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/28/2008 12:00:44 PM

Hawaii? Really expect there is oil in mid Pacific do you? And in fact including territories is, hmmm, shall we say, slightly slippery? As for the rest of it, you do understand moot do you not? Go look it up, basically it means no longer a consideration, the Budget Appropriation is *passed,* it goes to your former hero, Dubya. McCain's stance on drilling, Obama's stance, both are upstaged and made irrelevant by Congress.

  • Posted By: italy1 @ 09/28/2008 11:58:44 AM

First off, I want to know why very few people in the media have picked up on the fact that Obama has said on the trail he has visited 57 states with two more to go, and told an audience full of veterans of war that as he looked out at all the fallen soldiers he was thankful. Macain can't blink or cough the wrong way without this and that being said, yet Obama is getting a free pass.
Second, Obama's economic advisors have all made millions working for the very companies we are now bailing out. Also, he has been in office a little under 4 years, yet has seen the 2nd most amount of money from the lending companies. On top of that Dodd and Frank have received millions from the companies they now say were poorly run. At least twice since 2001 Republicans have voted to reform the lending industry, and were stiffled by the other party both times.
The media needs to get with it, and stop playing favorites. Neither party is perfect, and both have helped to ruin this country, but fair is fair..The media needs to stop passing their opinion as news, and start meeting their responsibility.

While camping and attending a bluegrass music festival, I took a tour of Comanche Peak Power Plant, the last nuclear power plant built in the United States. The plant is unobtrusive and is at perfect harmony with its environment. It is located near Glen Rose Texas a beautiful area that has bluegrass band festivals in the summer. It is a wonderful scenic country area and home to Dinosaur World and a state park. There are dinosaur tracks from 100 million years ago along the riverbed that can be seen some say are heading in the direction of New York City. The Brazos river flows through and the place is an environmental heaven. There is old green Sinclair Oil Company dinasour statue that stands at the park. Ironically most of the stations and assets of Sinclair Oil Company was bought by Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company was a jewell of an American oil company that explored and developed the Alaskan North Slope and at one time owned eighty percent of our Alaskan oil reserves. Arco Oil Company was subsequently bought out later by foreign owned British Petroleum during the second administration of Bill Clinton. The point of this comment is twofold. Democratic hostility toward United States owned energy companies has led to the sale of United States oil companies to foreign interests and that nuclear power plants can even be located next to wonderful wildlife and park areas and make good unobtrusive neighbors. Nuclear power is a friend of the environment and does not emit green house gases.

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin realize that the Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to effectively give away in trust our offshore exclusive economic zone by standing in the way of any current offshore development. Under the 1982 United Nations Law of the Seas Convention the US has an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles and mineral seabed rights up to 350 nautical miles extending along the Continental shelf. A nautical mile is 6080 feet so our exclusive economic zone extends about 240 miles and mineral seabed rights extend 420 miles. The US has the world's largest offshore exclusive economic zone totaling 4.4 million square miles. In comparison, the total land area of the United States is only 3.4 million square miles.
On the East coast alone, if you drive from Key West Florida to Bangor Maine it is 2000 miles. Multiply the 2000 miles by mineral seabed rights extending out 420 miles results in a total of 840,000 square miles of ocean acreage. Because we have the world's largest offshore coastline which is twenty-five percent greater than our land area, it only makes common sense that we exploit our offshore resources to achieve our energy independence.

Already a moot issue. The Budget appropriation provides for removing the offshore drilling ban. Originally the claim by McCain/Palin that Obama opposed drilling was a lie anyway, Obama stated he was for expanded, responsible O/S drilling as part of a comprehensive energy plan, the major focus of which would be developing renewable energy. And you really ought to redo your math about offshore area > onshore area.

If Mr. McCain is going to include reporting the news as part of his debate response, it would be helpful to at least get basic facts correct. McCain's shameless lead in at Friday's debate was to deliver the bad news that "Senator Kennedy is in the hospital."
Kennedy did go to the Cape Cod hospital briefly Friday afternoon, and had been released well before last night's debate. Oh, but wait! I actually know how to use a computer, unlike McCain, and that was my news source. An utterly tasteless and crass use of Ted Kennedy's name, Mr. McCain. Shame on you!
Your role at the presidential debate is to answer the moderator's questions in a way that will inform the American voting public what to expect from at the helm of our ship of state. When we want to see the news, we will turn to a place where we can at least presume the basic facts are correct.

The report I read said he went to the hospital in the morning, and Kennedy's office said he returned home about 8 p.m.
Obama may have wanted to say something about Kennedy, but was beaten to it by McCain. Of course, Obama realizes none of his supporters care about anyone older than 50.

"Of course, Obama realizes none of his supporters care about anyone older than 50." Really? You believe that? If I wanted to caricature someone, I'd point out that our Republican president has put us so far in debt, he must not care about anyone under the age of 10. (Because they'll have to pay it off! Get it?) And his EPA seems unconcerned about their future too. Kid-haters!

Wow, don't place me in the position of defending the current Republican administration, cause I'm not goin there. Just saying, it is SO common for Obama supporters to rag on McCain's age/physical condition/so-called mental deterioration. If the shoe were on the other foot, and McCain supporters kept raggin about Obama's being black/separatist/in it for what he can get for HIS people, McCain supporters would be on the hook for bein the R word, faster than you could say 'white supremacy.' Yeah, McCain supporters would all be tarred with the racist epithet. But Obama supporters are uncomfortable being tagged with the less abominable ageist label. Most of them do sound ageist, even the ones that claim to be over 50, or over 60, whatever. Then there are the little darlings who claim to be over 70 and they, well they KNOW they're not the same as they were 20 years ago, so how could McCain possibly do the job as president? Etc, etc, it gets nauseating, I agree with people who object to all the ageist comments.

Just wanted to know who you were refering to when you stated "his people" ? Remeber Barack Obama is of mixed heritage and race. His people are White Americans and Africans. He is classified as African- American. Barack represents so many "people" whom call America home. If you are not one of "his people" explain to me who would be?

Hes not muslim! Thats a myth proven wrong a long time ago.

Everything that comes out of your mouth isnt true in the least bit. The sad part is you make the Republican party look bad. I used to be republican. But over the years I've smartened up and realized that not only some really good/decent people belong to the party, but also EVERY SINGLE racist, bigot in the US votes republican..........no matter who the candidate is and if they are right for the country as a whole. Some of these people will believe ANYTHING they are told regardless if its true or not and dont even make an effort to even check their facts. People like this frustrate me.

You know I was gonna write a lot more but you're not worth my breath.

DOESN'T SOUND LIKE YOU WERE IN THE MILITARY. YOU NEED TO WATCHFOX AND GO TO UTUBE AND GO TO GOV SITES. GO TO WWW.VOTESMART.ORG. WWW.FACTCHECK.ORG. John McCain was born 72 years ago and selected a beauty queen for a VP. What does his current judgement show when he selects Sarah Palin for the most important position he can appoint as a candidate? I believe he is out of touch with so many aspects of the many responsibilities and requirements that the presidency will require. He is outdated and needs to find the nearest rocking chair and rock the grandbabies. Obama/Biden in 08, please.

EXCUSE ME, but you guys have selective AMNESIA....Osama spoke FIRST!!!!!! Hell, I was disappointed that McCain took it upon himself to wish that whale (Kennedy, anything good)...He is a perfect example of what is terribly, terribly WRONG with the majority of politicians, Including Osama....they begin to think they are above the law and get a GODLIKE mindset....Kennedy has done everything from hiding his fortune in FIJI, so it won't be taxed to MURDER...anyone ever heard of Chappaquidick???? Unfortunately for the woman (at the time) was pregnant and he had to solve that problem and he did....her body was never recovered...Bobby and John were both Clinton like....skirt chasing, all empowered, just as the Joseph Kennedy was...This family is a disgrace to America and it's sad to say, but TRUE..this guy never did anything for anyone but HIMSELF.....that's why he connects so well with Osama.....

        • Posted By: topknot5 @ 09/27/2008 10:47:19 PM

You wanna talk skirt chasing. Read the biographies on McCain. He did plenty of skirt chasing in his time. Heck his current wife is a direct result of an affair he had on his last wife.

And the name is spelled OBama. Don't be ignorant.... What is this 5th grade? If someone running for president named Charles Hanson, would you compare him to Charles Manson, because his name rhymed.

Give me a break. Just living proof we need to put more money into education.

"Obama realizes none of his supporters care about anyone older than 50." Yes, there's a meaningful comment. Do you really believe this? If I wanted to caricature someone, I'd point out that the Republican president has put us so far in debt, he must not care about anyone under 10 years old. (Since they'll have to pay it off.) His EPA doesn't seem to care about them much either. I guess your Party is adults only?

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin understand that under the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift, 300 million years ago when oil was formed all of the continents were one supercontinent called Pangea. The continents then drifted apart. The Africa coast was right up against North Carolina 300 million years ago. Today half of the oil production of Nigeria is now offshore and the odds of large offshore deposits off our east coast are very strong. There are also huge oil deposits off of east coast of Brazil. Brazil has tied up almost all of the world ocean drilling ships in the hopes of developing those deposits. Given there is confirmed oil off of Brazil, likely oil off the Southern US east coast and there is confirmed large deposits south of Newfoundland then it is likely there is oil all up and down the entire United States east coast. The United States has the largest coastline in the world and it is simple common sense to make use of those offshore resources to achieve our energy independence. John McCain energy proposals will bring about this development that we so desperately need.

Who gives a rip about Fox news? They are at least not getting on board with most of the eastern seaboard media who have annointed Obama without even knowing him.

Speaking for some undecided voters, I am sure, when I say that Michelle Obama is a highly paid hospital bureaucrat who would be right at home with most Republicans, if she hadn't been black by an accident of birth. Obama has spent the last decade desperately trying to move up in a financial sense, too. Taking the help of shady local underworld characters with financial dealings in the Middle East. He took their help gladly to get into his own expensive home, and he took the help of many people none of you would consider mainstream, such as his own Rev., whom he has now disowned.

How many Presidential candidates have such financial dealings with underworld characters in their own neighborhoods, then in the last months, are forced to say they don't share the views of their own clergyman they've followed for the past 20 years?

Not a one, excepting B. Obama. It's a miracle of his powers of oratory -- learned at Rev Wright's knee, as well as at Harvard -- that he was chosen to make the speech at the Democratic convention that brought him to national attention. It's another miracle that the country is/was being so poorly run for the past 8 years, that people jumped on Obama as their candidate for change.

Yeah, change is good. But voters should make sure they're not jumping from extreme incompetency to extreme corruptability. Because I see nothing in Obama's background to make me believe he and his administration wouldn't be as corrupt and money-grubbing, once they're in, as the Republicans have been.
He is primed to be even more corruptible, as he started out much poorer.

Senator John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin because he intends to follow through and make his Project Lexington for United States energy independence the dominant issue in this campaign. Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband works for British Petroleum but instead should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company. Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

I hope all the people currently driving around looking for gas are really diehard Obama supporters otherwise they may just question the energy policies of their leader and realize their tire air pressure guage is not going to help them with an empty gas tank.

It is a shame that the gas lines and empty gas stations are mainly in the southeast which will be all Redstates for McCain/Palin next month. It would be more poetic justice that the blue states of the northeast should suffer from the gas shortages caused by their Democratic leadership. The northeast has been lockstep in their opposition to offshore oil drilling, nuclear power, clean coal, and even wind energy in the Massachusetts bay area.
