This is unbelievable amount of exaggeration especially on McCain's part. Obama had his fact slightly skewed but what appears to be the case is that McCain was dead wrong or even lied about a whole lot of stuuf.

I think that the FEC should penalize a candidate who seems to be charging out with his sword swinging high above his head, and yet basically lied about many things about Obama. Obama should also be cautioned to double check on his exact mathematically drawn figures.

It's fairly obvious that even John McCain knows that the Kennedy name still holds a lot of political capital. McCain simply lacks the intelligence and the class to know when and when not to invoke the Kennedy name. You are, however, missing the point that Mr. Kennedy's health is not an appropriate topic for these debates, nor is there any value in McCain's erroneous reporting.

It was not a fact-filled comment, not something to dissect for errors, just a short statement of fact, that Sen K. had been in the hospital. And as you say, it wasn't a topic for debate, and wasn't debated. I wonder at your believing it worthy of consideration, except as a political ploy of some kind. I don't think it would have been treating him in a shoddy way for Obama to have mentioned it, except that on his part, it would have seemed like he was using it for political capital. (Things get sticky with using Ted Kennedy's name, don't they?)

Sen Kennedy may have done a world of good in the past 40 years, and his constituents have kept him in office. But I have to ask what is the worth of his judgement, in a role as mentor to the next President??? Politically, he is useful. But when it comes to a person's basic integrity and judgement about what to do in a crisis, I don't think Ted Kennedy will be the go-to guy. I wish him well, but he directly and personally caused grief and suffering, and the passage of time does not negate that fact.

The debate started at 9 pm. I read about Kennedy's trip to and from the hospital before the debate STARTED. If Senator Obama had wanted to treat his friend and mentor in the shoddy manner used by McCain, he could have used his introductory comment to do so. Please remember that Obama spoke before McCain did last night. The Senator from Illinois has a little more couth than the Maverick from Arizona. As well, Obama seems to understand the purpose of the debates is informing the American public about potential presidential behavior, rather than inept newscasting.
If Obama had been seeking the presidency when I was 50 he would have had my vote. I am honored to vote for him now, as are many of my long past 50 friends.

Of course, a candidate's experience means little or nothing to an Obama supporter, we know that. And physically, Obama does move a little faster than McCain, so there again, he's quicker on the draw than the older guy. When it comes to dirty campaign ads, Obama is keeping up with McCain, or even ahead there, too. Obviously then, he's the answer to this country's problems.

Boy, all it took was last night to wrap up any questions as to if Senator Obama could be President. I heard someone comment on TV about how stupid it is to judge someone on how he stands, or looks at another. Let me tell you, I am an Obama supporter, but john McCain's arrogant attitude last night disgusted me! All you have to do is watch those men to see what kind of character they have. I am so proud of Senator Obama for not dropping to McCain's cocky level. If he would spend as much time checking out the problems of this country, and the struggles the people living in this country are having, as he does bragging about himself, we might not be as bad off as we are. McCain telling of how long he has been in politics, and all of his experience for all those years did only two things. It told everyone how really OLD he is, and proved to the people with all his experience and time in politics....he still has done nothing!! I pity any man who thinks he is so much better than others, that he can't even look at them. If you watch, Obama was the FIRST to go to McaCain to shake hands, at the beginning of the debate, and also the end. That's what I call character, and that's thekind of man we need to get our country back to being respected by others, and lead us inrto prosperity once again. You won't ever see that if McCain takes that office. Of course, we all know that won't happen!!

Don't see what the VP candidates have to do much, with the fact checking in this debate. Palin's abilities remain to be seen, governmentally speaking. Biden's ability to do anything except study foreign policy and be re-elected year after year, remains to be seen. Obama's abilities remain to be seen, for that matter. McCain is becoming more of an unknown quantity every week. At least we know more about his personal and family history than we do Obama's.
There's just no way to judge who we should be against. No reasonable person would be actively "for" either one. Buzzard choices.

Damn! I feel like McCain, I spaced out for a moment and entered my comment twice, I do however find much humor in this whole thing "BUT" I am going to tell you all a little story----- Once upon a time their was a firm and goal orientated lady in Wassilla Alaska, she was a real go getter, she worked hard, raised children and did what she thought was right including standing up for her family. To her campaigning meant somewhat honest competition. stretching the truth maybe but not beyond any realistic limits. Her hard work got her ahead fast and soon she was a powerful Gov. of her state. Her perception of government from where she could see it was confined to the limits in which it exposed itself and could never offer up the level of ugly ness that good ole D.C. had to offer..... Until that day,,, 48 hours or so before the R.N.C. And then here it comes, THE PLANE , THE PLANE. And that my freinds is the moment all of that changed for the Damned sure pretty hockey Mom of AK. She has been exposed to a cunning coniving crew of man eating, hostile, desperate, bunch of every hard core walk of life politics has to offer and my friends as Johnny boy would say: She is not happy. Some say, HEY LOOK! Sarah has lost her confidence. No folks... She has seen the creeps she has hung around with and she has had her fill of the crap they are trying to sell us and the only confidence she has lost is something we all can easily relate to and thats the confidence she once had in her party and her running mate. I wouldnt be shocked if she tells em all to stuff it before Nov, Now let me share a thought with you, have you ever resented a person for fooling you on a first impression, well the rath of a woman is not a pretty picture .. Please take note I am a republican gone democrate, I was in fear of the Palin explosion at first but now I see and respect her and her heart and folks the later is not in it like it wasIf I were McCain I wouldnt be messin with her,, she could pull this election simply by using him the way he has used her. and with a few choice slips POOF ! its over, that way she doesnt have to quit . you cant quit something you never started, I wonder if that sweet little gig she has in Alaska is looking sweeter every day? THE END! I know,,, cool huh?

. It is simple common sense. If you are alone and in a fight with two people, it makes sense to focus on the stronger fighter because that person can knock you out and it is all over. Barack Obama and Joe Biden seem to have difficulty with this concept. They apparently believe that it is a sure bet that we are going to win the war on terror and that we do not have to be careful in how we sacrifice American military lives in winning the war on terror. I doubt that Barack Obama or Joe Biden will be preparing any letters of resignation when their grand strategy on the war of terror fails and American soldiers have to pay with more blood. Barack Obama???s strategy is only to wait until Iraq is armed to the teeth and only if you see Iraqi marked warplanes attacking the World Trade Center and only then is it okay to send our men to storm their beaches. Of course at that point our casualties will be ten times greater.

    • Posted By: citizenwhocares @ 09/27/2008 6:21:13 PM

One minor flaw in your argument : we weren't in a fight with Iraq until we attacked them.

Ok be nice to senior week is over, now its no more Mr. Nice Guy. But now the fun begins. The Palin debate, man I'll bet shes glad to be hooked up with Kenya style witchcraft people. just think, next time Putin pokes his little head into Alaska air space she just calls her preacher and its shooo shooo evil bad spiritual USSR dude and pooff he is gone.DAMN what a warm and fuzzy feeling! That and bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran!

The Kissinger statement about meeting with Iran without conditions was during a discussion on CNN with 5 former Secretaries of States -- Powell, Baker, Albright and Christopher in addition to Kissinger -- last Saturady night (Sept. 20). I remember it distinctly because it did contractict McCain's position. If Kissinger changed his position to accommodate McCain, he has no credibility.

    • Posted By: acros @ 09/27/2008 5:58:32 PM

Kissinger was talking about Sec. of State meetings and he even said so because I watch the same CNN program

    • Posted By: acros @ 09/27/2008 5:56:31 PM

Kissinger was talking about Sec. of State talks and not President to President like Obama said he would do. I watched it to.

I have been a Republican since 1968. I have always voted for the Republican candidate. That is going to change this time for the FIRST time! I will VOTE for Obama and Biden. He's a natural for THIS job. McCain is an evil mean spirited person who would be dangerous in this position and his pick for VP is idiotic. I can't imagine McCain winning, he'd be at war with anyone who doesn't like us and Obama would at least repair the damage done to our US reputation by the Bush administration which McCain is part of.

  • Posted By: kenkarman @ 09/27/2008 5:54:15 PM

Obama went easy on him, after all its not nice to pick on wrinkled up old white haired dudes. I must say though, to be Sarah next week should be a matter of sensitivity also, after all she sees Putin popping into her airspace. Now this is where that Kenya preacher is gonna come in handy, he wiil be able to chase out the putins just like the witches, shooo shooo be gone you bad evil spirits be gone, boy! that makes me feel good!

  • Posted By: lonely_soul @ 09/27/2008 5:41:29 PM

It looks like Obama definitely favors families over single-person households. Doesn't he consider singles as "people"? Some of us didn't have a choice when it came to hookin up, or are no longer hooked up.

  • Posted By: TruthForward @ 09/27/2008 10:26:37 AM

Some of McCain's comments were totally off. No amount of truth in them.

My *biggest* disappointment from last night's debate was that neither candidate gave a straight answer to the question of what will be sacrificed to pay for the coming Well Street bailout. Both candidates danced, ducked and weaved. While mouthing the obligatory "sacrifices will have to be made", they both valiantly tried to give the impression that they'd still follow through on all of their existing financial promises (tax cuts, spending, etc.). Neither the "maverick" nor the "changer" had the COURAGE to stand up and say "Americans are going to have to pay for this bailout and it's going to hurt a bit."

"Country First" and "A Change We Can Believe In", my a$$. It's more like "Votes First" and "Promises I Want You To Believe".

Can we draft Perot and his graphs to inject a bit of hard reality into this fantasy these guys are spinning?

  • Posted By: Alphonse @ 09/27/2008 4:23:10 PM

Senator McCain does not seem to be interested in facts or in telling the Americain people the truth. He wants the American people to hand him the presidency without him telling people where he stands on important issues. "Turst me," "I know how to do this," "I know how to do that," etc. These are the cliches of senator McCain. But how can we trust you, senator McCain, how can we believe that you know how to do this or that when clearly your more than 25 years of experience in congress led the country to the military and economic mess of today?

THE BIGGEST QUESTION THAT WE NEED AND DESERVE AN ANSWER :

Can anyone justify why the tax-payers of this country are expected to support a 700BILLION cash fall to Wall Street?

    1. Why should I pay for the loan on your Mercedes SUV, or Range Rover?
    2. Why should I pay for the mortgage you signed on the dotted line for and claimed you would faithfully make the loan payments?
    3. Why should I pay for the second mortgage you obtained for the beach house that you did not need and now have two mortgages on a home that you need and can not afford and can not sell?
    4. Why should someone who has no debt, now be expected to pay for everyone else who wanted to run up their credit cards and live high on the hog?
    5. Why should I now have to pay for the Wall Street execs who were given huge cash bonuses last Christmas?
    6. Why should I pay for the multimillion dollar bonuses provided to Wall Street managers?
    7. Why do the Democratic party want to place the blame on the Republican party when they are as much to blame for this financial fiasco?
    8. Why are WALL STREET execs so very happy at the prospect of getting $700Billion poured into their coffers?

** LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, WHY SHOULD I AGREE TO GIVE $700BILLION TO THE TWO MEN WHO GOT US INTO THIS FINANCIAL MESS? It is a mess, not a crisis, and bedamned if I want to pay one red cent.

So if Kissinger changes his position after the debate, it qualifies as an Obama fact error? No chance that he felt bad about helping the opposition?
