Thank you Fareed Zakaria for stating in such clear terms, what I've been thinking for weeks!!!

McCain's gambling habit looks very familiar. I am a child of a gambler who never thought he had a problem while he got our six-person family evicted from our home. His seemingly irrational decisions make sense when you understand he is a gambler at heart. He may be a patriot, a hero BUT he is definitely a gambler at his core. Look at his decisions, not like he is a politician, but as a gambler. There is a 'rush' gambler's seek to relieve their boredom. At my core... that's who I believe McCain is. The selection of Palin is no surprise.

I don't know whether to panic, laugh, or be angry. The current financial situation has me close to panicking about my family's future but McCain's pick of VP, which I thought was silly but humorous at the beginning, is so irresponsible that I am now very, very angry at the prospect of having someone so unqualified be so close to the presidency at the worst possible time.

Not "Sexism but common sense" that the Mcain people are displaying with regard to Palin? Hardly. It may be understandable only in the sense of an insane agenda where they redouble their efforts in the face of what actually needs to be done.

Sarah Palin doesn't know what she doesn't know. She is overconfident from her rapid rise in Alaska, a rich state with a small population. But she lacks knowledge of the United States and the world, and all the issues which we are facing. John McCain did not put country first when he selected her to be his running mate. He put his political career first. He treats her like a Stepford Wife -- won't let her be seen, won't let her speak, and when he allows her out, she can only say what she's been told. What a disaster!

With all due respect, just exactly what is "victory" in Iraq? Victory over what? And why would we even want to have a VP who has to ask what the Vice President does, who has no concept of foreign relations, and who can only mouth what the handlers give her? I fear for the future of our country if McCain should become President and then either die or become incapacitated.

I don't care if Palin lacks experience -- but lhow about the fact that she lacks any intellectual curiousity or knowledge about the world outside of Alaska? I might possibly be inclined to to vote for John McCain, but there is no way in hell that I would cast a vote for anyone on the same ticket as Palin. She is a an absolute joke.

Don't be sexist Republicans and let Pailin freely speak her mind! Also, allow the media free access to her so that she can prover her worth as well as provide more material for Tina Fey and SNL!

Just because Obama was too stupid to put Hillary on the Ballot for his VP, don't think that McCain wasn't smart in picking Sarah Palin as his second in command. Experience can be gained as a VP, afterall she isn't the first name on the ticket.
There has been an experience question about Obama ,first on his ticket, since he started his campaign and he still a huge Question mark by his name.
The answer of his stupidity was apparent when the ever present Senator picked the guy that said that" he is bright, articulate and clean cut", Senator Joe the Coal expert.

Gov Palin is a wife and mother of several children. She has a lot in common with the average American woman. She brings a woman's perspective to decision making in the oval office. Unlike Hillary and Barack, she is against abortion, she is pro gun, and pro drilling for oil. She is for fiscal conservatism and she is for VICTORY in Iraq, something important for the soldiers here in Iraq. We dont want to fight and sacrifice, just to have Barack Obama give our hard earned victory away. This war has not been fought perfectly, but neither has any war our nation has fought. Mistakes were made in the Revolution, the Civil War and World War 2. However we had to persevere. Americans want to win, they will not tolerate a quiter.

When I listen to this woman and consider that she might be a hearbeat away from the Presidency, I lose any sympathy for McCain that I used to have. She was obviously chosen for this ticket to go after the very conservative right-wing of the Republican Party, and not for her ability to think and express herself intgelligently.

I may be preaching to the choir here but I see this running mate selection as evidence of Senator McCain's serious lack of judgement. God help us all if this senior senator wins the election then passes away while in office.

So when Democrats and Obama blast our economy, an economy based in part by confidence, this is putting country first?? When Pelousi blasts a scathing partisan speech before the extremely important bailout vote- this was putting country first?? When Barney Frank blocked regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack in 2002, this was putting country first? Funny how Newsweek and Fareed somehow miss this

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say 'intuition'. The difference between Obama and Palin is like the difference between a Steinbeck novel and a Sesame Street song.

He knows how to string a noun and a verb together to make sense---Are you for real---wake up!!!! She's an embarrassment and disgrace to females and to being an American.

He knows how to put a noun and verb together to make a complete sentence and a complete thought. Palin is a disgrace and embarrassment to females and Americans. Only when she reads from a prepared speech does she make any sense. Wake up.

Thank You for pointing out the obvious. My fear is that the truth about Palin always seems to fall on deaf Republican ears. Is it now Ok for me to believe that the average republican voter simply does not care about this county's future and would prefer the female image over ability. They are putting this country's future at extreme risk. O8/12

The Republican Party apparently went on a scavenger hunt to find McCain a running mate. Objective: find a candidate who appeals to the greatest voter base (rather than a candidate who is the best qualified to succeed the most powerful political position in the free world). Republican campaign strategists - "Let's go find someone is who is ultra conservative, a member of the moral majority, a Washington outsider who will appeal to the independent voters, and Oh, yeah it would be great if they were a lady so we could tap the Hillary crowd." The McCain camp put election first, nation second.

Barry is really showing us how he is committed to "CHANGE" the first thing he does is get a guy who has been in the Senate for 36 years. Now that's "change we can believe in". I think not.

As a woman and a Mom, I'd love to see another woman in an executive role in the White House, but I want the woman who makes it DESPITE being a woman, rather than one who gets there because of being a woman. We all know the McSame campaign chose her to gather up the Hillary voters. C'mon. How stupid do they think we are? (Obviously not as stupid as Palin...)

But McCain had dinner last Saturday with Lieberman. Can we hope?
