    Palin: ???a time BOMB???
Waiting to expire. Palin has had her 60 days of fame then its back to lipsticks and being the average hockey mum.
If I have not learned anything in this life, I have learned one important lesson. As much as you dislike someone, the more you see of them, the more you realize there is a side to their character that captures your attention. Unfortunately for Palin it has been an: ???Ooooops I did it again!??? for every interview she has had. She has absolutely blown the few opportunities that she has been provided with to prove and persuade people ???she is the one???.
Maybe some people should stick to what they do best, if in Palin???s case its (As she likes to put it) a hockey mum- then do that and do it best.
If the Republicans win the election, she, unfortunately, will become just a breath take away from being the president of the United States of America and a wake up call to all- there is not way an ???average??? and ???everyday??? person can be do this SUCCESSFULLY.
If Palin is the best America can offer for VP then that is a nation in crisis!!

My advice to Palin, the time is ticking enjoy the fame while you can, it appears that???s what she is in it for??? she hasn???t waken up from ???lala??? land???

Palin: "A time BOMB" and the expiry date is just around the corner. She has had her 60 days of fame!!

If I haven't learned anything in my life, I have learned one thing for sure- the more you see of someone, the more you know them, and often the more you like them. Palin is one of those people the more you see of her, the more flaws in her character appear. She has blown every opportunity she has had to persuade people hat 'she is the one'. Personally, every interview she has made (actually the only few, that I can count), it has been an: 'oooops I did it again!!'
I am sure if only McCain looked a little better and 'wiser' there MUST HAVE BEEN an American who would have been suitable for VP. If the republic party has seen Palin as 'best suited for VP' then it appears that a nation is in trouble.
Having a women to lead a country such as America is astounding and as a female nothing would have made me more proud, but if its Palin... I would not even want to imagine, the VP chair can not be for an 'average person' or as she likes to put it 'a hockey mum' . It required experience, a great and open mind, a talent, an understanding and knowledge.
If the Republicans win this election, Palin, I fear, is just a breath take away from being the President of the United States of America and just being 'good' on its own is not enough for the VP of a hegemonic power such as United States!
My advice to Palin, stick to what you do best!!
If you think you make a 'good' hockey mum- then be just that.

Sarah Palin a good mother no way! She uses her children to get what she wants. She thrusts a pregnant teenage daughter out into the media and a younger daughter on the ice for votes without any concern for them. I have never met a teenage girl that was pregnant that didn't want to hide it let alone want to be in the national media. How can she say that she cares for them. Then apparently forces them to get married ? Good mother NO WAY.

Obama's view of the future of America - Socialism which is the next step to Communism!!

Under socialism a ruling class of intellectuals, bureaucrats and social planners decide what people want or what is good for society and then use the coercive power of the State to regulate, tax, and redistribute the wealth of those who work for a living. In other words, socialism is a form of legalized theft.

The morality of socialism can be summed-up in two words: envy and self-sacrifice. Envy is the desire to not only possess another's wealth but also the desire to see another's wealth lowered to the level of one's own. Socialism's teaching on self-sacrifice was nicely summarized by two of its greatest defenders, Hermann Goering and Bennito Mussolini. The highest principle of Nazism (National Socialism), said Goering, is: "Common good comes before private good." Fascism, said
Mussolini, is "a life in which the individual, through the sacrifice of his own private interests??realizes that completely spiritual existence in which his value as a man lies."

Socialism is the social system which institutionalizes envy and self-sacrifice: It is the social system which uses compulsion and the organized violence of the State to expropriate wealth from the producer class for its redistribution to the parasitical class.

Despite the intellectuals' psychotic hatred of capitalism, it is the only moral and just social system.

Capitalism is the only moral system because it requires human beings to deal with one another as traders--that is, as free moral agents trading and selling goods and services on the basis of mutual consent.

Capitalism is the only just system because the sole criterion that determines the value of thing exchanged is the free, voluntary, universal judgement of the consumer. Coercion and fraud are anathema to the free-market system.

It is both moral and just because the degree to which man rises or falls in society is determined by the degree to which he uses his mind. Capitalism is the only social system that rewards merit, ability and achievement, regardless of one's birth or station in life.

    Yes, there are winners and losers in capitalism. The winners are those who are honest, industrious, thoughtful, prudent, frugal, responsible, disciplined, and efficient. The losers are those who are shiftless, lazy, imprudent, extravagant, negligent, impractical, and inefficient. [What about the role of luckbeing in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time? R. R. Pope}

Capitalism is the only social system that rewards virtue and punishes vice. This applies to both the business executive and the carpenter, the lawyer and the factory worker.

It never ceases to amaze me there are people "out there" that have the mindset to make the comments you made. Maybe you should consider changing your online name to "Mr/Ms Objectivity." Or "Mr/Ms Feral."

Wait a minute!! Now I get it.........you think you are the one she was winking at!

Excellent article. If McCain were to become president and, God forbid, die, Palin would be president. That would be a scary thought at any time. But during these exceptionally difficult times? I shudder to think that this is a possibility.

It's like a story where some evil force succeeds completely in the ruinination of our country from within. Bush/Cheney then McCain/Palin. McCain does not finish his term and Palin is used to complete the ruination of American all while "they" tell living Americans how much she cares about the unborn. We are left broke and broken. The victors pick up their chips and ride of to....?

On October 10, the Alaska Legislative Council found Sarah Palin guilty of abusing power. Immediately Ms. Palin said "if you read the report you'll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member." This quote by Palin is only 50% true. The Legislative Council report says it was LEGAL for her to fire Commissioner Monegan, since as Governor she has the right to hire and fire her staff at will. The report also says that her firing of Commissioner Monegan was an UNETHICAL abuse of power.

Palin tells you half of the truth, and lies outright about the other half. You know the old saying: If you tell a lie, make sure it contains some truth so it will be believable.

    From the report:

Palin tried to force the Commissioner to prosecute Trooper Wooten (her former brother in law) for illegally shooting a moose. The Commissioner explained to Palin that if they charged Wooten they would also have to bring charges against Palin's sister, who was present on the hunt, had the moose permit and illegally let her husband use it. They would also have to prosecute Palin's father, who cut up the moose and stored it in his freezer, sharing the meat with the Palin family. In other words, the Palins were OK with Wooten illegally shooting the moose when it happened. They participated in the hunt and kept the meat. But a year later when Wooten was divorcing Palin's sister, suddenly the Palins turned him in for illegally killing a moose.

The Palins turned Wooten in to the State Troopers disciplinary commission about a year and a half before she became Governor. The Troopers investigated Wooten, finding that some of Palin's allegations were true and some were false. The Troopers disciplined Wooten with a few days' suspension. When Palin tried to get Monegan (the new Commissioner) to re-open the case once she was Governor, Monegan told her he couldn't do it. All the allegations had already been investigated and Palin had no new evidence. Trooper Wooten belongs to a union, and he can not be fired just because the Governor doesn't like him.

So, the Palins hired a private investigator to trail Wooten, trying to catch him doing something wrong. The investigator took photos of Wooten dropping his kids off at school, using his patrol car. The Palins file a complaint, saying it is illegal for him to ferry his kids in a patrol car. They try and get him fired for this, except it turns out that since Wooten was working a swing shift, his Commander had given him a waiver to bring his kids to school in the car.

Wooten and Palin's sister have been divorced 3 years, yet the Palins continue to persecute Wooten. Palin just can't forgive and get past this family drama.

not a favorite source, but you can't have everything.

    • Posted By: Nins @ 10/11/2008 10:30:45 PM

Did you follow these links? They lead to intentionally misleading, hate-based journalism. They try to imply that Palin was found guilty of abuse of power solely because a Democrat, Senator French, was on the Committee that investigated her. But here's what those links don't tell you: that Committee was not only bipartisan, it had a REPUBLICAN MAJORITY. Palin was found guilty based on the facts. The events that occurred as well as the start of the investigation all took place before Plain was nominated as VP, so to say that the investigation was out for blood, trying to influence the Presidential election is ridiculous.

I am so glad they concluded their investigation before November 4th. America deserves to know whether or not Palin is guilty. And it turns out that she is guilty. Does that make her less electable? You bet. Was it a Democrat plot? No, it was not.

Have you all forgotten that Obama has less governing experience than Palin? And he's running for PRES not VEEP! And what does his "foreign policy experience" consist of ?

    • Posted By: Nins @ 10/11/2008 10:29:55 PM

Actually, Lisbet, Obama has been on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee for the past 4 years. He has made several trips overseas as a US government official, visiting Iraq, Pakistan, Afganistan, Russia, Israel and Europe in that capacity. He worked on nuclear disarmament of the former Soviet Union. He graduated with highest honors from the Columbia University School of International Relations, the school that trains most of our diplomats. Additionally, Obama spent part of his childhood living in a foreign country, and had travelled all over the world even before he became a Senator.

Palin just got her passport last year; she has been to Mexico and Canada. And let's not forget, she can see Russia from an island in Alaska (but has she ever even been to that island?).

Their level of experience in world affairs is quite different. I think it is great that you like Palin, go ahead and be inspired, but don't be fooled into thinking that her international expertise is anywhere near Obama's.

It's obvious that Mccain is ill-prepared for this election. He is just relying on his inexistent experience to get him to the white house. After spending more than two decades in Washington, he still wants to continue on the failed policies of George Bush and make the economy even worst. Since when this campaign started it has always been clear that Mccain has nothing to offer, and the recent debates are a confirmation of this.To chose Sarah Palin as a running mate has shown his unseriousness in solving the problems of the American people. Mccain/Palin!, don't even think about it. At this point in time when there are so many gruelling issues to handle this would be the worst pair to occupy the oval office and in general the fate of America.

  • Posted By: Mathilda @ 10/04/2008 5:47:45 PM

Gov. Sarah Palin doesn't strike me as someone I would want in top office. While it's always great to see women running for top office, she's way out of her league. I don't want a small town mayor sitting in the big chair. I want someone like Sen. Joseph Biden who's been around the block a few times, and has a real sensibility for any number of complex issues, from global threats to economic challenges at home. Gov. Palin seemed ill at ease and unable to answer the tough questions. If she's unwilling to give the American people a basis for comparison in a national debate, what will she do during times of national crisis? During arms talks? During a time of war? You can't change the channel. You can't blame the media. You can't "straight talk" your way through these moments in history. Sen. Barack Obama and Joseph Biden seem to be a real team with real ideas and plans. They're not the flavor of the moment, and Mr. Obama certainly did not pick someone to make him look younger, fresher, or smarter as Sen. John McCain did. I think I'll go with the Democrats this November. We can't afford to take any more chances with inexperienced ingenues like Gov. Palin.

    • Posted By: Lisbet @ 10/09/2008 4:18:59 PM

Then why not vote for McCain who has "been around the block a few times" instead of Obama who has served less than 175 days in the senate before he began campaigning for the Presidency. All of you "lefties" keep squawking about Palin's "lack of experience" yet she has more governing experience than your Pres. candidate Obama. And yes, tax increases on the wealthy to give to the poor is REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH and it is nothing less than SOCIALISM!!! OPEN YOUR EYES!! And in case you forgot it's the "evil" businesses and corporations that provide your jobs!!!

How is it that a First World Nation, the power house of the world, give opprotunity to a person like Palin to run for VP. With Mc Cain state of health, she could very well become the President. Can USA afford to have such an incompetant person running the country. I watched 8 years ago Bush and Gore in debate and TV interviews-- Bush could not pronounce nor did he know some countries and the population voted him for 2 terms. What kind of nation is this ?

  • Posted By: Dylan Rossi @ 10/08/2008 12:50:20 PM

There are two things that a leader can do that will cause havoc. He can fail to consult and go with his "gut instinct." He can over-consult, and choose the path that has no guiding principle. McCain's choice of Palin was obviously the first. But Obama also has to step up and show that he can make good choices based on sound judgment. The choice of Joe Biden was a start. But where does he go from there?

The country needs a strong leader, not just a census taker.

  • Posted By: 3kds2dg @ 10/08/2008 8:36:12 AM

She is scary. If by some odd chance McCain is elected, I pray nothing happens to him. She is unfit to run this country. I had certain amount of ambivalence regarding this election, until McCain chose Palin, No More. Save us from right wing radicals.

Dear Fareed, I have always been very impressed with your very insightful and balanced views over the years since yo9u started with Newsweek. I also enjoyed your weekly CNN interviews. Keep up the fantastic work and look forward to more.

Regarding Sarah Palin, is she really that bad? Isn't it too early to judge her? Most VPs and Presidents have little or no experience with running the country before they got elected. I don't get it. Why is the media so anti-Palin?

If you can get past partisan politics, it is obvious that Palin is a breath of fresh air. She thinks like a normal US citizen, talks like one and acts like one. Her lack of knowledge is attributed to being a short timer in national Washington Belt politics (although she appears to be a fast learner) with limited information available to her in a short time. She shows grit, determination and definite leadership potential with a little fire and consideration of the american poeple. We should be so lucky to have her lead us, Maybe we could get something done.
