Excellent article Fareed! I think that Tina Fey would make a smarter VP than "Airhead" Palin. I can't wait for Thursday's debates as we all get to watch "Sinner" Sarah make a total fool of herself and there'll be no editing to cover up the dumb answers she's bound to give. I'm still waiting for her to blink and chicken out somehow, maybe she'll hear her baby calling. I can't wait to hear her wax clueless on the economy some more and tell us how Putin is buzzing her airspace, yeah there's enough airspace between her ears to fly a whole fleet of Russian bombers around in.

YOU ARE THE ONLY AIRHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SARAH IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, please explain what this means: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the???it's got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

It's Newsweek, what do you expect The only thing missing is Fareed's "Obama/Biden 08 button.

You can't disagree with the substance so you try to marginalize the source. Why don't you bring some facts with you next time?

  • Posted By: Alicerod @ 09/29/2008 7:16:37 PM

I don't think that Sarah Palin will drop out of the race. But it is very true that she is not ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. She doesn't seem to have the ability under pressure to express her thoughts clearly on the issues of our day. It is difficult even painful to watch her interviews. Her inability in this area is help for the Democrats, of which, I am one. I want knowledgeable, educated, articulate leaders for our country who can get our economy stable, get us out of a bad war, and support education and healthcare. Obama and Biden are my choice.

John McCain has always put John McCain first.

Palin is even worse than irresonsible. She is dangerous. Her religious views on the Rapture and End Times make increasing strife with the middle East not only likely but inflammatory. If the public knew more about these wild, destructive fatalistic beliefs, they would not stand for her to be even considered as VP. PS---I'm a white woman who formerly attended a fundamentalist Christian church, so I know how she thinks.

All this criticism of Sarah Palin does not take into account the historical context. Viewed in the light of the outstanding choices the Republican Party has made in the past, she fits right in. The GOP has offered us Nixon, Agnew, Quayle, and Cheney. Governor Palin is in the same mold. She has utter contempt for law and abuses power, like Nixon and Cheney, she is corrupt like Agnew, she has that same "deer in the headlights"; quality that Dan Quayle exhibited. Oh, yes, and she is a pathological liar. A perfect choice.

The situation with the Palin pick and the impending utter destruction of the Republican Party that is taking place is true Karma taking place. The greedy and power hungry core of the republican party decided to deceive the Christian Right into coming to the party by dividing the country with the issues of Abortion and Gay Rights. They do not truly care about these issues much less the core issues of christiantiy(THE GOSPEL): Helping the poor, Not passing judgemnet on others, turning the other cheek(being peacemakers not war mongers), being truthful and not bearing false witness, loving your enemies.......I feel sorry for Sarah Palin and all of the christians that have forgotten what the founder of our faith taught......Wake Up People!

I would like to know why the Republican house or the Republican Justice Dept. didnt conviene congressional hearing or and investigation into Wall Street . I ve been telling both of them that Wall street has been on Steriods for YEARS.. Just a thought

How long must this Palin spectacle go on? This is not funny anymore, folks. John McCain has made a mockery out of the most important election of the 21st century by picking this uneducated, unqualified woman, whose sole purpose for being on his ticket is to attract women voters from the Hiliary Clinton faithful. If McCain was serious about having a woman on the ticket, he had many more choices than this.
And for all of you women who continue to support her for the sheer fact that she is a woman: You are playing right into John McCain's original plan. When he picked Palin, he had you in mind.

    Go Obama/Biden!!!!

I couldn't agree more with Fareed Zakaria regarding Sarah Palin. What appears to be common sense knowledge to the thinking citizen of America appears to completely evade the right wing politicians and the Republican voters . I can only hope that good sense prevails during these elections.

  • Posted By: kennedy1988 @ 09/29/2008 6:35:42 PM

I just want to know if someone, anyone had mentioned to Congress or the Justice Department that Wall Street was on STEROIDS would there have been an Investigation. Just a Thought

  • Posted By: AlteredEgo @ 09/29/2008 6:32:06 PM

Thank you for speaking the unspoken truth. McCain is no true patriot anymore. He is a desperately ambitious politician who has put country last in the selection of Palin as VP. He has sold out America's security for electoral gain in his courtship of the religious far-right extremists with Palin.

  • Posted By: McHudson @ 09/29/2008 6:26:58 PM

Couldn't agree more with Mr. Zakaria, but the majority of right-wings americans are to stupid and blind to see the truth. They will vote for McCain no matter who he picks for VP. Those idiots would still vote for McCain if it was Bozo the Clown his running mate.

  • Posted By: GregHere @ 09/29/2008 6:19:07 PM

........................................The "Concept Of Sarah Palin" for McCain came along when Hillary Clinton was still a major posibilty to be with Obama as his V.P. Choice. Palin was supposed to be this big appeal to the Far Right Wing of the Republican Party that McCain needed to solidify. Palin had the credentials that she was a Former Beauth Queen, Born Again Christian, Pro Guns, Against Womens Right to Choose, Friend of Big Oil and other points that McCain thought he could exploit to his advantage. McCain thought America would go for Palin because she is an attractive woman and could take womens votes away from Obama reguardless of Sarah's major lack of meaningful experience or impressive education credentials. Will Americans be wise with their votes or cast them away frivolously???

  • Posted By: Panamalive @ 09/29/2008 6:15:30 PM

Aside from ultra-conservative Republican Kathleen Parker's article last week -- begging Palin to step down -- this is the most truthful article I have read so far in this campaign.

  • Posted By: Not That Girl @ 09/29/2008 5:55:32 PM

I agree! In deciding Sarah Palin as his running mate, McCain simply stated to the world that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants regardless of how the decision affects the country. Regardless how you feel about the issues that both candidates stand for, you have to acknowledge that Sarah Palin is simply not ready to be Vice-President. I would have to question whether or not Sarah Palin is qualified for any position within the new administration.

  • Posted By: verameihanlam @ 09/29/2008 5:11:42 PM

Why should we be surprised about Palin's answers? She's a politician with good looks, good people skills and good old American values. She can relate to people in Middle America. That's what the majority of American voters want, Zakaria is too intelligent. People who are going to vote for Palin wouldn't even read Newsweek, let alone listening to Zakaria.

    • Posted By: Kathy1960 @ 09/29/2008 5:54:05 PM

I thought that religious tolerance, fighting for social justice, and being educated and informed were good American values. The middle America that tolerates religion as long as it is Christian and is more informed about the NFL, NASCAR and the NRA than it is about politics and economics was something to be ashamed of. I don't find Newsweek too intelligent and would be embarassed to make that assumption about most Americans.

  • Posted By: erisamaven @ 09/29/2008 8:05:59 AM

I would rather have Sarah Palin as Vice- President than immediately have Obama as President. Obama has the glib acting talents to PLAY a president on TV, but he is much less qualified than Palin, who is the actual, elected governor of a state. Obama is a performer who has never accomplished anything in his life, except writing books about himself. An Obama Presidency is a likely disaster.

Please do your research on SENATOR Obama's record. Both he and Abe Lincoln were one term senators from Illinois before becoming president. If you spew silly terms like "empty suit," well, you're playing Palin-style Mad Libs. It has abolutely NO meaning. Dude, ya gotta back up your assertions with facts. Obama is not only a senator, he was a professor of consitutional law at Harvard Law School, and editor of the Law Review. He was number one in his class. Do you know how hard it is to get into Harvard Law School? And incidentally, he did not report his racial background. Gotta do some reading or you'll sound like Sarah Palin when you talk.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/29/2008 9:49:40 AM

Perhaps experiece of Palin ls sounding more like someone who has no brain. Experience that makes Dan Quayle sound like a genius compared to Palin. Experience that if I lived next to Canada, that I can say I have foreign policy experience. Experience to compare a Harvard constitutional lawyer who has a brain, to someone who is clueless? Do I need to go on? This is not a Republican versus Democrat issue, this is an issue that affects people on a global level too. Think MACRO!

Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

And the above list of conservative commentators are some of the most prominent on the right side of the spectrum. Considering the facts and the commentary of these well respected journalists posting what they did, can you still look someone in eye, knowing that Palin could become POTUS, and say without hesitation, or trepidation that she is ready right now to lead our country after seeing Couric's interview with Palin?

I'm sorry, but can someone tell me how all of a sudden being a governor of a state is 'tried and true' as to the sound-mind and experience that is needed to be a successful commander in chief of our country? Umm... last time I checked, GWB was the governor of TX and look where all of his experience has brought this country. Thus, the 'community organizer vs. executive of a state' argument is pretty tired and stale @ this point.
