IF PALIN WINS THE UPCOMING DEBATE, I WILL WALK FROM IL TO AK, (maybe). IT WAS DISRESPECTFUL OF MCCAIN TO CHOSE THIS INDIVIDUAL TO HELP HIM GOVERN (should he win). HIS CHOICE SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT HIS LACK OF JUDGMENT AND CHARACTER.

It also speaks of his "strategy." Palin was obviously an attempt to gain the women voters for Hillary Clinton. Apparently McCain believes the American people are stupid, but based on the die-hard McCain/Palin supporters...they just may be.

I won't accuse you of sexism. I will accuse you of being politically incorrect!
Palin reminds me of someone...

Sarah Palin went to 5 different schools to get a degree in journalism, John McCain graduated 894 out of 899 students. It may not matter to you but it matters to me that the leaders of this country are intellegent and have the understanding needed to negogiate with people from all over the world. We need a thoughtful executive branch of government. We need people in this branch of government who know history and people who actually know the people of this country. We need a president who will not act on the first thought that comes into his head. I wish people would stop comparing Palin to Obama. She is running for vice president. Oh, Joe Biden went to law school too. Nuff Said!
How can a headline be so misleading? PICKING PALIN WAS UNPATRIOTIC. I guess the libs don't remember how the cried about unfair treatment when they said that just because they didnt support the war didn't mean they were not patriotic. But I uess Newsweek got what they wanted. Me to read their page. To bad I will never buy their product or anyone who advertises with them
Actually picking Palin was patriotic, indirectly. It ensures that McCain will not win the presidency, thus wresting the government from the hands of the party that has virtually ruined this country.
YOU are part of the problem with why we are losing journalists that are unbiased. You can't take the facts so you are not going to buy products advertised through this publication? GROW UP! Quit complaining and do your research. You don't have to agree with everyone. When you don't agree, however, it doesn't mean you throw a tantrum about it. I repeat, for the record, YOU are part of the problem with why we are losing journalists that are unbiased.
To sunnfjord, Point taken, but 100,000 civilians is considered an off-the-mark estimate when it was in The Lancet, and still now., The civilian deaths are also attributable to sect nationalism and terrorism waiting in the wings for the falling of the police state, we don't want to compliment Saddam for protecting Shiites and Sunnis from each other. The U.S. and England were protecting civilians before the War, many Shiites and Kurds--and since the invasion, the Marsh Arabs, who probably number more than civilian casualties..
Sarah Palin is perhaps unqualified to look good in the salons where Mr Zakaria likes to shine. She is extremely qualified as VP. Please don't call this piece an "analysis"; it's an opinion piece which mainly shows the prejudices of its author.
Clemence- you must know something I do not. Please fill me in on this woman. I want to know where SHE stands and how SHE would approach the following issues: Education, Health Care, the financial crisis, domestic security, international relations, international security, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, should we go to war with Iran, what about North Korea, when did the dinosaurs exist, did God tell her to become VP and is this His war we are fighting in the Middle East? Zakaria???s article may be an opinion piece but it is based on fact and reason, two things Palin has never been able to intertwine in her responses in any interview (the few she has given at least). But maybe I am wrong, please- go into great detail of how this woman is qualified.
I am a white woman with an economics degree. She is a not ready for VP. She is on overload. Very scary with McCain being real old.
I guess if you can say that about Zakaria, you might as well toss George Will, David Frum, David Brooks and Kathleen Parker into the fray of conservative writers who think McCain made a mistake too. The Peter Principle has struck Palin. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle
Dear Arcady, Obama was chosen as the Presidential candidate by American democrats electing him. We believe he is qualified, and if you don't, then don't vote for him. Palin was chosen with no input from the American people but solely by McCain's judgment. Which a lot of people are questioning since she is clearly so unqualified.
Duh, Sarah did not get picked because of her vast national political experience. She is a real person, a charismatic honest politician who believes in the principals that has made our country great.....and has shown that she makes the correct decisions. Obama lies at ever turn, he will do anything to get elected and will do anything to stay in power.....he has shown this even if the press will not.......he took money from fannie when he knew it was filled with fraud.
http://outoftownnews.blogspot.com/2008/09/democrats-caught-red-handed-in-fannie.html
fool stop lying....you honestly don't believe this bs you're speaking
President Obama???get used to saying it pal. If you actually think the Bush Administration has done ANYTHING other than make this country poorer and weaker, then you obviously aren't objective enough to look past your republican goggles.
See my comments two down from where you have posted. Can you honestly answer my question with a straight face?
Here you go Palin fans...What has been exposed of Palin is called the Peter Principle. I will even provide the link....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle Every person with the exception of Bush and his administration reaches it some point in their life. Eight years late, and this article has nothing to do with him.
When a person is properly vetted, they go through an interview process. When a person is improperly vetted, things come out sometimes in the worst possible fashion. When you saw Palin being interviewed by Couric, the answers that were given by her were unscripted. Unfortunately, questions were not asked of Palin like Couric and the three other interviews she gave as part of the vetting process. If she was asked anything like that before she was introduced, she would never have made the cut. Or you can speculate that she was given questions like that, and McCain liked the answers she gave. We will never know.
Sure you can practice for the debate. Sure you can even memorize some things, and perhaps we may see some improvement on her answers Thursday. However it does not change the fact she has gone way over her head with her abilities.
George Will, David Frum, and David Brooks and Kathleen Parker have asked her to step down. Zakaria is now joined in the chorus of concern. I think that everyone should be taking a close look and think about one thing. Do you think based upon her interviews, that you can look at someone in their eye and say, I think Palin is presidential, and can take over in a moments notice?
And one other note, if Palin did step down, she would not be the first one either. Think Spiro Agnew and Thomas Eagleton in modern times. Sure saving face is ideal, however, under these circumstances, is it better to save face, or think of the good of our country. And this my fellow bloggers is coming from an Independent who would not have hestitated to vote for McCain in 2000.
No matter what Fareed doesnt have a clue Zakaria says, appointing Palin to VP was a spectacular move. I have heard democratic women who were hardened supporters Hillary, already say publicly that a woman in office is all they wanted. Those same women will vote on the McCain/Palin ticket because they want to see a woman at a height unseen in national politics. Yes Palin is unexperienced but Obama is still trying to forget high school prom. I think Obama would do fine as president but I dont want a person who is new to politics running my country. Have you ever heard the saying "We learn from our mistakes", those mistakes are usually my by politicans in the senate or in there local offices, but as president. Palin will bring in more votes than Biden if you think I am wrong let me know why you think Biden will actually get any votes for Obama.
Then why is McCain losing by an ever growing margin every day?
It is also called the Peter Principle.
Some want to compare Sarah Palin with Barack Obama. Why? Obama ran in a primary against Hillary Clinton and the rest of the field for a year and a half. He presented himself and was voted on by millions of people. THEY gave him the nomination of one of our national parties. On the other hand, Sarah was interviewed by John McCain a couple of days before HE decided on HER. If we are fortunate, this will be his first, worst and LAST decision as a would be Commander-in-chief.
This is really surprising news considering the New York Times backs Obama. And, it's absolutely Amazing considering Barack Obama has no more qualifications than Sarah Palin that they say this. So what makes Obama more worthy than Palin? And, I find it amazing that Obama accuses John McCain being George Bush III when in actuality Barack Obama would be George Bush III. Spend, spend spend.
Wow. I guess the irony went totally over your head. Bush went into office insisting on reducing spending. By getting rid of the oversight of Wall Street and mortgage companies we were forced into a culture of spend, spend, spend. Obama, if you have been listening, proposes spending in arenas that will help Americans. People accuse McCain of being Bush III because of the continual mistake of reducing regulation and ignoring the onslaught of health care, education, and domestic and international security issues our country faces. His proposals on how to address these issues are at best a slim variation of what Bush has done for the past eight years. Obama has eons of experience over Palin, but we are not here to compare the two. Let???s compare VP candidates- Biden???s years in politics- more than McCain- puts him in completely different ball park than Palin. I find it absurd that you actually feel this woman with so little common sense, understanding of issues that face (well the lower 48 and that of the rest of the world) putting aside her lack of experience, could actually be in a position to be Vice President, or more horrifying, President.

We will never know.

Btw George Will, David Frum, and David Brooks and Kathleen Parker have asked her to step down. Zakaria is now joined in the chorus of concern. Do you think based upon her interviews, that you can look at someone in their eye and say, I think Palin is presidential, and can take over in a moments notice?
To the Republicans, evangelicas, whatever you call yourselves, please answer this:: Okay, you have run the country for 8 years, we are now the laughing stock of the world, we have no credibility, you still talk to poor American working people as if they are nothing and because they didn't get to where you are, we are lazy and don't deserve social programs and money taken from those who earned it, WELL, we have all learned that you earned it dishonestly.
GOD is trying to get you on the right track of the Bible that you so love and preach from but you do everything it says not to do. But don't worry your preachers will be you down below to counsel you.
An intelligent person with this country's best interest can see McCain, by his own will, is selfish and only thinking of himself. He has ruined Palins political career for his own because she would have been ready in a few years but he didn't care it's all about him. He has followers who don't want to help us poor lazy Americans but they now want our money to help them out.
I say let them fall. We know how to live without nothing, they don't and they need a hard lessoned learned because they use us and use us and try to talk to us like we are dumb. If you voted for McCain twice, you do not have good judgment, that's for sure.
Obama may not have experience, but he surrounds himself smartly and has ran a campaign for two years with no disruption like Hillary's and McCain's and didn't go bankrupt like Hillary and McCain, which the latter the press is not telling you about.
I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am a Democrat, but I can admit that Palin did some good things for Alaska and WAS a rising star. Unfortunately, McCain shot her down by choosing her, long before she was ready for the national scene. They have coached and handled her to such a degree that she is terrified to say anything and cannot remember what they told her to say. The Sarah Palin that Alaskans know, is not the Sara Palin that Couric interviewed.
I agree with fastwriter. McCain has ruined Palin's political career in an attempt to "shore up" his own.
I would have to say that picking Palin was a great choice for VP. I only say that because I have read many many articles and websites about women who were supporters for Hillary are supporting McCain now because of his Palin pick. Weither you want to beleive it or not most women democratic or republican have admitted just wanting a woman in one of the highest positions in our nation. Also Obama is just as inexperienced as Palin he is still thinking about high school prom. I beleive Obama would be an okay president but i just have to think about the old saying, "Making mistakes is learning", but not when it is president of my country. Most politicians make mistakes early on in there terms, weither it is as a senator or local state representative and we have had enough mistakes in our leaders. The last thing I would say is do you actually think Biden will draw more votes than Palin, it is obvious that Biden doesn't draw even the smallest interest for the country. In retrospec though I dont like Obama or Palin both for the same reason, Experience.
McCain's first act as a candidate was to pick the wrong person as running mate. He may learn from his mistakes, but I'd rather have someone who has the intelligence to think through an issue before acting. That's why I've supported Obama from the beginning.
It's safe to say that neither Senator McCain nor Governor Palin are equipped with the judgement and temperament required to deal with the crisis brought on by this administration's failed policies. Their "Forrest Gump" campaign message insults credibility itself, and their political tactics are worthy of a Lester Maddox in his heyday. Political cynics who play the fool are fools indeed.
A year ago Obama didn't know any more about foreign policy than Palin does now. Too bad the liberal press doesn't give her enough time to study all issues like he got a chance to do before they throw her to the wolves. She may even be able to make intelligent comments without having to use a teleprompter.
One other thing, Regan, Carter, Clinton, and certain our current president did not have that type of exposure before they became POTUS either.
Make your mind up. He's either an elitist because he's educated (knows about the world we live in) or he is an idiot who cannot speak without the words been feed to him. You can't have it both ways. There is a huge difference between someone who took their education seriously and someone who when to 4 different colleges to graduate with a degree in journalism. This would make her a part of the so called bias press. Huh!
The questions the press asked are the types of questions that should have been asked of her during her private vetting process. If her anwers to the private vetting process came out like this, well who knows, perhaps they still may have let her on the ticket.
Conservative columnists George Will, David Frum, David Brooks and Kathleen Parker have now been joined by Zakaria asking her to step down based on her answers given to the press, and trepidation about what she knows and does not know.
Let's see. The Democrats have a far left liberal with almost no experience who has done nothing but say what he told to say, but he does sound good. The Democrats have a VIce Presidential candidate who walks and talks most of the time with his foot in his mouth It could only come from a progressive (radical left) writer that Obama who has accomplished nothing as a community activist and organizer, a State Senator and a US Senator is the least qualified to answer the phone at 3:00 amd at the White and competently make a decision and have enough time to call his handlers to know what to do and say. Duh!
You left out one thing. Obama will be the next president. The 30% folks who still like Bush can throw out pejoratives against Obama but they are not sticking. People know a baseless attack that is contrary with the facts when they see one, and simply discount the critique when not in accordance with reality. Thus, your rant will never change a single mind.

I hear the same comments about Biden stepping down. The dems could have had 16 years in the oval office, all they had to do was nominate the best person for the job, Hillary Clinton. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot , it wouldn't even be close.
NO, We chose the best candidate.....your party has the problem.....clearly political and sexist.....and if Hillary supporters choose not to vote for Barack, then they were never true democrats and they were never going to vote for Barack.....which is senseless considering what McCain does not offer....how pathetic are republicans....they are really embarrassing
Thank you! Someone is finally saying what, I think, many americans are thinking! Many of us in Alaska are really just shaking our heads at the absurdity of Ms. Palin.--Kerri in Alaska
