I am voting as a Democrat this Novemeber, but I really am now feeling sorry for Sarah Palin. I believe she is good doing Alaska politics, but she needs to be barred from the National stage. She just needs to stay where she is comfortable at and leave us alone......

I am a 30+ yr old independent voter and I honestly have not much use for Dems or Repubs, but it has come to a point in my life where I truely have given up on the intelligence of people. Yes... we all have are biases and preferences due to whatever reasons be it from upbringing, lack of knowlede/education, but to defend McCain's pick of Gov. Palin as ready to lead when they will not allow her to even do interviews with media or townhalls with their own supporters is just blatantly absurd. I can understand someone wanting their party to win but when does a person who truly claims to love this country stop lying to themselves and others and just admit the obvious? Palin is not ready as the journalist rightly stated and the more peole try to deny it without offering any points as to why she is ready based on their limited knowledge and access to her viewpoints then it is time to stop the ignorance and be honest with yourself if you really do put our "country first".

You are ABSOLUTLY right. I, at the beginning of the election, was an undecided voter. No longer. We cannot "pretend" that things are not like they are. Because we like a candidate or can "relate to them because they are like me" does not make them a good leader. If we as voters want to stop the old mindset we have experienced for the past few terms, we have to move forward. If as a person, town, or country, we are not learning, growing, or moving forward, we become stagnant. That is where we are as a country at the moment. We as a country have to move forward. We cannot pretend ignorance, and lack of preparedness is exceptable. It is absurd to expect us to believe and accept lack in our candidates. No matter how much we like their glasses.

As an American, I'm embarrassed by Palin. We tend to say that we don't care what the world thinks of us because we are so ***-sure of ourselves. Someone needs to remind us that our ***-suredness came from a time when we had the high road. Now we are wallowing in a history we have contradicted.

  • Posted By: rogerhall @ 09/29/2008 10:28:29 AM

How ignorant do you have to be to think that Palin and Obama are even in the same league?

Maybe a mouse would think Madonna and Shaq are about the same size.

Of course the mouse could be forgiven if Madonna can make free throws occasionally.

      ROTFLMAO :-)

Since there is no true third party to represent most Americans and the Dem / Repub political parties always win I would say they are in the same league.

A year ago Obama didn't have have as much knowlegde as Palin does now. Too bad the liberal press is so prejudiced. In a few months she can be just as efficient at answering questions and hopefully she won't have to us a teleprompter.

that's a lie and you know.....tell the truth and shame the devil.......and the devil is you

Fareed, you are absolutely and completely correct. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from Gov. Palin during the Couric interview. Gov. Palin was totally off-point and speaking almost total gibberish. I don't understand why so many people are so enamoured with her. I think that if I were an Alaskan, I would be completely embarassed.

There is no way she can be compared to Clinton. Clinton had the basic knowledge (and prior person to person contact) of the international scene. He had a great grasp of the economy. He was a total bonehead when it came to personal integrity, but when it came to governing, he was brilliant. Based on her comments and response to questions by Katie Couric, Gov. Palin seems to have some personal integrity, but is a total bonehead when it comes to the economy and international politics and governance.

John McCain's reputation for spiteful, malicious behavior seems to be rearing it's ugly head again. He didn't get Joe Lieberman, so by gosh he'll just show us! His remarks before and after the first Presidential Debate indicate he is still angry about Obama's fefusal to attend the Town Hall meetings, so naturally he blames Obama for the need to "suspend" his campaign to go to D.C., and , as it turns out, make a bad situation worse.

  • Posted By: Texan007forObama @ 09/29/2008 11:43:49 AM

It is so scary. It is obvious that McCain cannot multitask and he is only a couple of heart beats away from a heart attack. He is simply not able to handle the demands of the presidency and we could be left with Sarah to run our country. God help us!!!

  • Posted By: Mom of 5 @ 09/29/2008 11:43:44 AM

Finally, someone honest enough to say the truth, without fear of being called "sexist." Palin is not ready to be VP, she isn't even passingly informed about the economy, domestic affairs, or international affairs. She only cares about becoming powerful. She loves the attention, as you can clearly see from watching her convention speech. She may love Alaska, as her personal playground. It doesn't seem like she is concerned about the environment, or her constituents.

Scary, scary, scary. John McCain picked the wrong person, and he did it to further his political ambitions, not because she was a responsible choice. What other choices will he make for political expediency, rather than because they are the responsible choice?

Our lives and well being are hanging in the balance on this one. You may think that's an exaggeration, but I am very concerned about my future and the future of my children.

Just tell McCain and Palin "no thanks" on their administration to nowhere.

This is one article by Fareed Zakaria, who has in fact supported the policies of George Bush on many occasions when he has agreed with them. Question, Is it always sexism or liberal bias when the qualifications of a republican candidate are questioned? Are we ever allowed to ask these questions?

I agree that just going to Harvard or Yale are not qualifiications in and of themselves, but we can certainly look at what the candidate did while they were there. It's well documented that Bush partied, and while good grades don't mean Obama is qualified, doesn't it show a seriousness, intelligence, and desire to achieve that would be desirable for one representing us in the world.

As a woman, I believe in equal opportunity and woman's rights. I have been waiting for Palin to say something that indicates she is aware of the economy and foreign policy that are both in the United States and the rest of the world. So far, I have been disappointed. In fact, it has gotten to the point I can't hardly stomach her discussions on any issues. I feel embarrased for her. I feel like she has a pull string on her back that works great sometimes and other times the batteries are all hay wire. I really tried to give you a chance Palin, but sorry, your circuits are on stimulation overload and you aren't able to handle that. I hope any well being you have survives this as well as your family. It is is easy to want something so bad you will sell your soul and everything around you for it. It is another thing to actually be able to handle it when you get it. I am a traditionally married mother of 3 who believes in the right to life and the rights of the living. Let us hope we can make the life of the living who are making the choice, nice enough that they choose life for the ones they may be bringing into this country.

    • Posted By: Andrea from Indy @ 09/29/2008 11:40:08 AM

Reply to Woman in Indiana: I, too, am a woman from Indiana, and I TOTALLY agree with you. I went into this election undecided and open. I truly have done my research to try and be a responsible voter and cast a vote based on fact and not hype. I must say, I have waited to be excited about Sarah Palin to move forward with confidence, and SUBSTANCE. But that has not happened. It has nothing to do with liking her.
It is obvious after two minutes of an interview, she is out of her arena. Not to discredit her accomplishments for what she has done, that is great. But I am not willing to jeopardize my country, and cast my vote in that direction, towards someone who obviously has no clue. The sad part is, the majority of citizens, who see it as plain as the noise on their face, would willingly deceive themselves into thinking her lack doesnt' exist, rather than vote a candidate of different skin color. They just don't want to admit it, so they would choose, "what they have always known" and act as if her ignorance doesn't exist rather than vote for Obama. Sarah Palin has convinced me, with everything I have considered, including McCain's unstable actions, and stunts, that Obama has the integrity to take our country forward. Not stay the same. If you don't move forward, you become stagnant. That is what has happened to us as a county.

Thank you for writing this article. I was unsure about Palin from the beginning as little was known about her but over the past weeks, this uncertainty has become outright fear. We as Americans cannot afford to have someone in office who is not capable of their position with knowledge of the world around them. Shame on John McCain for making his VP choice strictly about his campaign and not the country. I have never wavered on my support of Senators Obama and Biden. Senator McCain's supporters should be thinking twice however.

Look at where we are. Stop listening to these dumb WHITE people. I will call it as it is. You should be embarassed that you left this country vulunerable to the terrorists. You stupid people.

You know, we see 24/7 on the news who needs to grow up. You McCain/Palin people are sounding more dumb than anyone can imagine. But GOD is doing his work. Just ask your fake minister to be honest with you. Oh, thank Bush for making you rich and now taking it away.

Are you aware the Bush Administration is charging those poor soldiers in IRAQ $40 for a case of sodas charged back to the GOvernment???? Go do your homework. GOD does not like ugly and we can see you freaking out in all your comments. Republicans

I couldn't have said it better myself. Regardless of ones political affiliation, you must in times of national crisis do what's best for the NATION. We as Americans have become so easliy distracted by "smoke and mirrors" fighting over completely meaningless things that we have failed to hold our government officials ot the same standard of conduct that we expect of any responsible citizen. As a military member I swore an oath to defend the US Constituton against ALL enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC. I fear my friend we have found the enemy and it is US. I think the far right of the GOP has doen to Sen. McCain what the Viet Cong couldn't, they have stripped him of his sense of honor and duty, and letf him a broken shell of his former self. The is NO WAY that the McCain of 200 would have ever choosen someone so clearly inept to occupy an office as important as Vice President. Would CAPT McCain USN, choose a person like Gov Palin as his Nav Officer or chief engineer? Heck No!! I am praying for all of them because we need whoever gets elected to govern with wisdom and compassion

    • Posted By: wtfcherry @ 09/29/2008 11:32:00 AM

I respect your response........I applaud your bravery.......My father, along with two of his brothers faught in WWII and through the years we've had other members in the family who have served in the military....Thank you for protecting us. I do agree that McCain's choice was all wrong....clearly political....and I hope you are supporting Barack...because when the dust settles you have to use your better judgment.....

  • Posted By: ajkriv @ 09/29/2008 11:30:30 AM

I have to agree with the article. John Mccain's "fundamentals" are not strong. He has picked a very inexperienced and uneducated person to help him lead. This all goes to Mccain's JUDGEMENT. This was purely a "political stunt" like many others we have seen in the last week. If I want entertainment, I will watch letterman, not our elected officials.

  • Posted By: mkailene @ 09/29/2008 11:26:40 AM

"she is tenacious in her actions and she's like a junk yard dog when she gets her teeth into an issue she won't let go"

This is not what I want as a VP pick! We need someone who can "let go" of the proverbial bone when they are headed in thewrong direction. You prove the point of why Palin/McBush is just "MORE OF THE SAME!"

  • Posted By: golda @ 09/29/2008 9:23:24 AM

This is not just a case of electing a president. McCain would be the oldest man ever elected to the job so his v.p. choice becomes more important. This woman is a disaster and definitely shows his lack of judgement. What it does show is that he is deperate to win at any cost.

    • Posted By: crunch05 @ 09/29/2008 11:24:35 AM

He sold his soul to the devil to win an election!

  • Posted By: bigsky_58 @ 09/29/2008 11:11:37 AM

The left wing liberal media has not supported Senater McCains selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate since day one. I think she will be a real asset to our country. You may think that because she's beautiful is my reason for saying that. WRONG....She could be the ugliest woman I've ever seen and I'd still vote for her. I say that because she is tenacious in her actions and she's like a junk yard dog when she gets her teeth into an issue she won't let go. Washington DC needs to be taken by the scruff of the neck and given a good shaking and John McCain/Sarah Palin are just the folks that will do just that. LPosey

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/29/2008 11:22:41 AM

I guess George Will, David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, and David Frum are part of the liberal press asking Palin to stand down (sarcasm but true). Get your facts straight and do a little bit more research.about people on the right are equally concerned.

    • Posted By: bennettsusan @ 09/29/2008 11:20:41 AM

Before Sarah Palin can "get her teeth into an issue", she first must demonstrate that she understands what that issue is! So far, she has shown that she has little understanding of any major national issue. Tenacity combined with ignorance is exactly what we got when we elected George W. Bush.

  • Posted By: Azim @ 09/29/2008 11:19:55 AM

Ditto Mr. Zakaria, you have made your point that Mr. McCain has put his political ambition first rather than country first. I believe majority of the American believes what you have written in your piece that Sarah Palin is in no way qualified to be a Vice Presidential candidate in this critical time.
Remember, John McCain is 72 years old and the oldest Presidential candidate in the history of the nited State. His health condition is questionable to be running for the highest office of the land. that is number one concern, and number two he has made a judgement error by picking Ms. Oalin as his running mate. In case Mr. McCain is incapacitated God forbid that does not happen but if it happens, watch out it will be Ms. Palin assumes the responsibilities of the President of the United States. I hope the American people understands that.
