Add to this the fact that McCain is old, the oldest ever if elected. Putting country first should mean in his case an extra burden of responsibility to choose someone who is ready to be president. He failed and thereby added yet another huge error in judgement.

Terrificworld you are ignorant! Clearly, Palin doesn't know what she is doing. Senator Barrack Obama will win and prove your racist #$% wrong.

Without being disrespectful, how did she become the Governor of an American state? I listened to her response, as to why being a neighbor to Russia helps to boost her foreign policy credentials and I was completely embarssed by her response. I hope Mr. Putin and the Russian president didn't watch this interview. I would advice Senetor McCain's campaign team to find any reason why she should not take part in the V.P. debate come Friday. Can a presidential candidate change his/her running mate? Please answer me.

I understand that Governer Palin is nervous, perhaps scared to death in these interviews and it shows. Will she improve in 37 days? Not a chance. Will she improve in 37 months ? Probably, but how much is the question. I am sure she is a fast learner, but while I believe that under NORMAL ROLES of ther VP of the UNITED STATES she is qualified to be VICE President She is NOT qualified to be President in case something God forbid were to happen to John McCain. Nobody wants that off course, but all things considered it should have been the #1 consideration in choosing her. It wasn't. She is a woman, she is the darling of the extreme religious right which McCain is not and I believe she was chosen for him to bring them around, he had little choice. If he DID CHOOSE HER OVER OTHERS it shows bad judgement on his part. I see her as "unqualified" ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. I also see a rather blatant opportunist, many times and there is a suggestion that she would turn on McCain in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself. NOT GOOD. But then, look what we have had in the Whirte House for the last 8 years, A totally clueless individual with totally opportunistic advisors and staff in far too many instances.

So when you do the math, you do get FOUR MORE YEARS of GEORGE W: BUSH in reverse.

I agree, she should step aside. maybe in 4-8 years with a little OJT "(On the job training")somewhere else then we'll see..

An excellent article that puts Palin in the social context that supports her is "Mad Dog Palin" by Matt Taibbi, currently on AlterNet. And to JungleJim: be fair; Palin is a bunch of talking points looking for a mind. Do you know what CONSERVATIVE columnist Kathleen Parker said about her? "If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street by herself".

Thank you, Fareed! We had a public embarrassment years ago with Dan Quayle, who, in retrospect was eminently more qualified for the VP (and by extension the Presidency) than is Sarah Palin. We are fortunate enough to live in a Great Nation, harboring a powerful economic system, a powerful workforce, a powerful military, a powerful collection of entrepreneurs AND (when properly regulated) powerful large corporations. We were a superpower in a world of two superpowers during the cold war, and we have the obligation to be a superpower in the far more complex world of the 21st Century. And in this light, we have the obligation as citizens to choose leaders (in all elected offices) who at least UNDERSTAND the world and nation in which we live. I will give John McCain credit for understanding these things based on his experience. But I will criticize him for being wrong in his ideas about how to govern our Nation at this time, and I will criticize him as irresponsible for selecting a running mate so underqualified either to assist or replace him as President.

A McCain-Palin administration would be unsafe for America, unwise in the presidency, and an insult to all Americans. If you support them now because of your agreement with their positions on several issues, you should consider on election day the risks to yourself, your family, and your fellow Americans in selecting a president who does not need to blink...his eyes and his running mate's eyes are already closed!

If McBush wins the election and has health problems (he's 72 years old, had cancer 3 times and is on 6 different meds), this random Palin woman will be President. What is her international experience? "I can see Russia from my house". YEAH...THAT'S WHO YOU WANT LEADING YOUR COUNTRY (sarcasm). I HOPE AMERICANS WAKE UP! Remember the headline of London's Daily Mirror newspaper back in 2004 when Americans re-elected Bush: HOW CAN 59 MILLION PEOPLE BE SO DUMB?

So , you are OK with a guy that has a Radical anti American past and his Harvard Law School Education days was paid for by Khalid Al-Mansour, a Black Muslim and Black Nationalist who was a "mentor" to the founders of the Black Panther party at the time the party was founded in the early 1960s.
"Al-Mansour has worked closely with a Saudi billionaire anxious to "exert influence in the United States," Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. It will be recalled that the latter was the Wahhabi whose largesse then-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani famously spurned after 9/11 upon learning the Saudi royal had blamed American policies for that day's horrific attack. Obama reportedly benefited from [his] help in securing a position at Harvard Law School."

"New questions have been raised about Obamas student loans and Obamas ties to a radical Muslim activist who reportedly was raising money for Obamas Harvard studies during the years 1988 to 1991."

You are OK with Radical Muslims having a huge influence on a POTUS?

You are OK that Obamas former pastor Jeremiah Wright , who called on God to "damn America" convicted terrorist William Ayers, and Frank Marshall Davis, a "Stalinist black communist" whom Obama described as a formative influence during his early years in Hawaii."

    But Palin "scares you"

Go read the Washington Times on this!
    and that
A leading national security expert has cited this exclusive report by Newsmax correspondent Kenneth R. Timmerman in an article about Barack Obamas ties to controversial figures.

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/28/2008 8:09:32 PM

You can throw all the dirt you want to about Obama. The article has nothing to do with him. It is about Palin and whether or not she is competent to become POTUS. You can cut an paste all you want to from all different sources; it is not going to change the course of the race. The scary part is not that the left wing is calling Pallin out, the right wing has joined the same chorus...

And lastly your bigoted commentary shows how shallow you are as a person. If you watched the debate, you would see that your remarks are out there. One more time, how do you answer to conservative commentators who agree with Zakaria about him stating that Palin should not continue being in the race?

      • Posted By: Obama McCain @ 09/28/2008 9:01:55 PM

Obama does not have no more experience than Palin, but yet you want this guy as President. I am just going to have to concede to the fact that you don't know no better.

        • Posted By: Hokuto @ 09/29/2008 6:01:13 AM

Those on the right aren't calling for her to step down on the "inexperience" issue; it's her lack of intelligence, curiosity about the world, common sense, and judgment that's at issue. No one in his or her right mind can watch the Couric interview and come away with any sense but that she is drowning in a world far beyond her depth.

        • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/29/2008 12:14:14 AM

Is this the best you can do? You cannot answer why the right is calling for her to stand down...When you answer that, then I will discuss other issues...NEXT!!!

      • Posted By: moniqueO @ 09/28/2008 8:39:11 PM

        .

Yea, I saw that you cut and pasted the same story of one Republican rhino 20 times, so it must be true!
So what part are you calling "bigoted"? You mean the parts that are TRUE FACTS. You mean the part that states who funded Barrys education. If you are afraid of Facts there is nothing that can be done for you. A Radical is a RADICAL, and Barry O has surrounded himself with them all his life.
Name calling will get you nowhere, Go ahead, scream and cry and whine Racist now. I love when Libs try to silence people by calling names. It makes me laugh every time. Go get Barrys "Truth Squad" to come after me to silence me, I dare you!

Shallow is when people do not want to look at all the facts about their own side, Shallow is when people do not want to hear fact that are unpleasant, shallow is calling names to silence others from speaking out about stuff you are afraid to hear, shallow is believing everything someone says just because it is coming from a Democrat.

My answer to Zak is JEALOUS!! He knows Obamas a Loooooser with a lot of really bad baggage about to hit the fan, and now has to cover for his boy by picking on the VP pick, not even the PRES pick!

Perhaps experiece of Palin sounding more like someone who has no brain. Experience that makes Dan Quayle sound like a genius compared to Palin. Experience that if I lived next to Canada, that I can say I have foreign policy experience. Experience to compare a Harvard constitutional lawyer who has a brain, to someone who is clueless? Do I need to go on? This is not a Republican versus Democrat issue, this is an issue that affects people on a global level too. Think MACRO!

Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

And the above list of conservative commentators are some of the most prominent on the right side of the spectrum. Considering the facts and the commentary of these well respected journalists posting what they did, can you still look someone in eye, knowing that Palin could become POTUS, and say without hesitation, or trepidation that she is ready right now to lead our country after seeing Couric's interview with Palin?

And don't give the BS that Couric was hard on her. If you saw the debates last night, Couric's questions were easier than the ones that both McCain and Obama were given. So if you think Couric was hard, what is she going to do when she has her face-off with Biden? Case closed

Holding an objective view I couldn't agree more, these are trying times and given the age of John McCain it is all to important to have placed such a wonderful woman in such bad position. He should be ashamed of himself. This is not "country first" this is "McCain first".

would you trust sarah pail to manage the local wal-mart with over 100 employees ?? obviously not she has no business skills she is a spokes model. she had to hire a city manager for wasilla she was in over her head there.
alaska already had dept managers so she mainly was a state cheerleader.
a state like california where arnold just had a protracted budget battle is so far out of her league its ridiculas. arnold has a degree in business fianance.
populisim only goes so far the founding fathers were right the presidency is to important to trust the people to a direct vote thats why we have the electoral college.
unfortunately many will view the author of this piece as some sort of undercover operative by his skin and name, this thinking is primitive and tribal.
yet when half the american people actually think the bible is true and not a collection of myths mixed with historic conflicts wriiten in somatic metaphor, they simply do NOT have the mental capacity to understand the world as it actually is.

the thing that sucks about criticizing journalists is that whatever you say, they turn to their own advantage. if i say zakaria is great, he gets a lump in his throat and his eyes get misty. if i say he is a terrorist-sympathizing, muslim-dominated, foreiginer who is taking advantage of american's kind freedoms, he gets a lump in his throat and his eyes get misty. just for the reocrd, i think he's the second

The saddest thing about McCain's choice to pick Plain was that, much like Wall Street. he choose to opt for a quick quarterly return over a long term investment. By pandering to GOP stockholders he has irrevocably damaged American politics - the voters deserved to be presented with a better choice. Chame.

McCain learned well from W: say whatever you can ("swiftboat" a decorated war veteran), do whatever it takes (push-polls in S.C.) to win the election. After you're in office, nobody cares how you got there. Palin isn't going to bow out - she's doing exactly what she was designed to do: cover McCain's right wing. Of course she's not qualified. That had nothing to do with McCain's choice.

I'm really sorry for her.... now she will loose her reputation in Alaska also.... I don't think Alaskan would like to have her after all that happened.... so sometimes you have to BLINK.

If you were the boss, who would you hire???

OBAMA: Harvard law professor, Juris Doctor of law degree, constitutional law expert, Senate committees: foreign affairs, homeland security, veterans affairs, family, education, health.

BIDEN: Juris Doctor of law degree, Senate committees: Foreign affairs (chair), economy, health, crime, women's affairs, education, technology, environment

McBUSH: graduated from the naval academy in the bottom 5% of his class, senate committees: economy, environment, official conduct (arguably the 3 biggest Republican failures!!!!!!!!!)

PITBULL PALIN: went to 6 different universities before finally getting a BA degree in journalism, no domestic or foreign policy experience but can see Russia from her house.

SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A NO BRAINER!!!!

zqll seems to just be spouting more right wing nonsense. Bush has responded poorly- myopically almost always, dishonestly always. The right keeps pointing out how he's "kept us safe"- but 9/11 happened ON HIS WATCH. It is ridiculous to say that he should be credited because it didn't happen multiple times- it shouldn't have happened once! It didn't happen under Clinton- IT HAPPENED UNDER BUSH. He BROUGHT Al Quaida INTO Iraq, and failed to defeat them in Afghanistan. Meanwhile North Korea ADDED nuclear weapons, Russia invaded another country for pete's sake after the idiot in chief declared that he had "looked into his soul" and gave him some bizarre spiritual seal of approval. SAFER? Are you out of your mind?

    • Posted By: Braes @ 09/29/2008 3:47:05 AM

The entire communications strategy of the GOP is to heap falsehood upon falsehood, becuase you can not argue a lie. It is or it isn't.
They specifically target the non-college educated market with flaws you are taught to reject in English 101 at any college or university in the world. They use ad hominems, appeals to authority, wave the bloody shirt, etc. They scare people into submission. Fear works.
Lincoln rightly observed that you can not fool all of the people all of the time.
Now they can't fool anyone who is willing to look.
