Seems to me Ronald Reagan had the same intellectual limitations Palin has--lack of curiosity, limited experience, and a black-and-white worldview. But he was good on camera, so it took us a while to figure out that he was a disaster, too. It galls me that now people look back on REagan like he was some kind of genius.

Under Reagan the government grew , there was budget deficits every single year and the national debt more than tripled. And 'conservative' small-government fiscally responsible republicans love the guy??!!

Why don't everyone let Palin be her self. She will be the Vice President of the United States, not the President. As far as Palins interviews goes, everyone who has interviewed her has been pro Obama. With the Charlie Gibson intereview, Palin actually gave excellent answers. However, ABC wanted her to look bad. So they edited out the good answers and replaced them with answers from other questions, just to make her bad. "See NEWSMAXTV.COM investigative reporting". Newsmax obtained the actual transcript of the interview, and discovered the cutting and pasting of her answers. All of the News Media are pro Abama... I have not heard one instance where anyone has put Obama under the microscope like they have Sarah Palin. They, "News Media and the Obama Camp", are searching and trying to dig up anything they can to discredit Palin. Point Blank, Palin has more experience than Obama, and he is the one running for president. Palin would make a better president than Obama could ever dream about. Obama has never been through the scrutiny that Palin has, because he is the golden child of the networks. Yhey do not want America to know what he really is or what he actually stands for.
Obama has more skeletons in his closet that you can imagine, He helped a friend get a $100K grant to build a park on Chicago South side. The park was never started, the friend spent the money on something else and the property, under the Rail Road Tracks is grown up with weeds, concrete bricks, rats, and any kind of trash you could imagine. However, nothing has ever been said. Obama's camp and ABC, CBS, NBC AND MSNBA will not let that information leak out. They will protect him. They will not intervies Obama for religion, Muslims, God, or Raceism, Obama is a liar, He and his for mer pastor has had many talks about hateing the white people and America. In his own hand writting he said, " I will stand with the Muslim".
Should Barack Obama with the Presidenct of the United States, "GOD HELP US ALL".

      WoW! Right on!! Spot on!!

His ties with Radical anti-American terrorist, Radical racist anti-American Rev, Radical Anti-American Muslims that paid for his education, Started the Gestapo "TRUTH SQUAD" the list goes on and on and the MSM have been covering for him from day one!
Liberals cover for each other to hide the truth when it is unpleasant!
The masses have no idea about the truth of this thug.

You would think that the fact that Barry O has "changed his mind" FLiP FLOPED 3 to 4 times over on every issue would have sunked his ship a year ago. The Liberal media does not seem to care.
And the fact that Sarah stopped the bridge to nowhere is a big thing to them,
NOT the fact that OBAMA and BIDEN both voted FOR it TWICE!! How weird is that!

    Mr. Zakaria,
Thank you for finally pointing out the obvious truth. I think the selection of Palin shows that McCain utterly disrespects American voters and believes that we are a nation of Homer Simpsons.

The Fall of Every Great Nation started with the Decay of the Morals of the People. If you don't believe this, go back and study history. If Obama Wins the Election, you will see that decay speed up. He promotes the Homosexual agenda and late term abortion, He said deciding where life begins was above his pay grade. Well he believes life begins after birth, if not he is promoting murder through abortion. Where do you think Jesus stands on these issues?

    • Posted By: Reality_Mack @ 09/28/2008 6:12:55 PM

Who cares what "Jesus" thinks. Religion is the foundation of virtually all major divides and conflicts throughout history. Its the easiest excuse for a pinhead to express a view based on "Christ" or any other religious figure for that matter. But hey, I suppose if I were raped or my Uncle forced sex on me it would be far too much to expect that I would be able to abort the unwanted child - oh, then again under McCain/Palin it wouldn't... Its time your kind woke up to the present day that we live in as a society. That is, unless you would like to join the likes of the Taliban and their NON-DECAYED society in the year 600....

      • Posted By: Obama McCain @ 09/28/2008 7:12:52 PM

I am sure you would not wait around for a late term abortion if that happen. Have you ever seen a late term abortion, when the fetus looks just like a small baby? If you have you know how gruesome this is. If not, you don't know what you are talking about. Obama is an advocate for late term abortion. The Taliban kills innocent people. Can you see the similarity between Obama and the Taliban when it comes to the innocent?

        • Posted By: comicoffee @ 09/29/2008 12:03:04 AM

For what it's worth, the overwhelming majority of late-term abortions are performed because of massive genetic deformities in the fetus that only occurred or were discovered late in the pregnancy--problems that would usually be fatal shortly after birth and also could threaten the health of the mother should the pregnancy continue to term. These babies were for the most part very much wanted, and it was agonizing for the mothers to abort them. Unless you have been in this position yourself, you have no business acting all self righteous and supposing you have the superior judgement to determine the course of other people's lives.

    • Posted By: MoralDem @ 09/28/2008 6:14:27 PM

Morality should not be legislated. Everyone is responsible for his/her own soul. Your government does not make you more or less moral -- that is up to you alone. Besides, you are presuming to define "moral" for all of us. If you must vote based on what Jesus would do, why not ask the same about McCain/Palin? One thing Jesus did do is take care of the least among us. You will search the GOP platform in vain for this.

      • Posted By: Obama McCain @ 09/28/2008 6:51:04 PM

I agree so why does the government want to legislate homosexuality.

        • Posted By: MoralDem @ 09/28/2008 7:09:31 PM

The government isn't legislating homosexuality. The fact that Obama and most Democrats do not back a BAN (that's the legislation that OTHERS keep putting on the ballot to get the bigots out) on homosexual marriage or an AMENDMENT (that's the legislation that OTHERS are promoting to change the US Constitution) to define marriage as only heterosexual, does not mean they are legislating the opposite. You can take off your aluminum hat now.

          • Posted By: Obama McCain @ 09/28/2008 7:20:28 PM

Take that bucket off your head and at least see both sides if you are going to make a comment, haven't you heard that states are trying to pass legislation to make homosexual marriage legal? Why not leave it alone? I have no problem leaving it as is. Do not pass legislation either way.

seems to me Ronald Reagan had the same limitations Palin has--lack of curiosity, black-and-white worldview, and limited intellectual powers. Wait, that describes George Bush, too. But Reagan was good at reading the cue cards, and his BS sounded a little less like Miss Teen South Carolina. So now he's remembered as some sort of genius, rather than as the narrow-minded disaster who put us on the messed-up road we're still on. Bush, who's no good at on-camera BS, gets labeled the disaster he is. Why do we keep making the same mistakes?

Zakaria- Excellent article! Thank you for speaking the truth to the American people. Anyone who thinks Palin is qualified to be VP/ one heartbeat away from the Presidency must be putting their head in the sand. My friend is Palin's cousin and he won't even vote for her! To those people who are unwilling to admit the obvious and make up some nonsense that everyone should believe in one religion or should have an American name, let me remind them that our Constitution allows for freedom , separation between Church and State and no one except for the Native Americans were here from day one. We all immigrated over here for a better life from other countries. This is a time to come together as Americans, do what is right for our Country and end prejudice once and for all.

All this Palin-bashing reminds one of how Reagan was belittled for being an actor rather than some slick talking lawyer/professional-politicain of the type that today's stupid voters think are the only ones qualified to be President.

Why is the newsmedium not "mocking" Obama for trying to project "foreign policy experience" by virtue of giving a speech in Germany? The American people are going to see past this lopsided treatment and coverage.

There is no such thing as "foreign policy experience." That the media talks as if there is, simply shows the degree to which liberalism has corrupted the English language. We could legitimately speak of "negotiating experience", because "negotiate" is a verb - something one DOES. On the other hand "policy" is a noun, and you don't DO nouns. And in order to gain EXPERIENCE in something, you have to be able to DO that something. You cannot gain experience in anything that does not involve DOING something. One can
have KNOWLEDGE of policy - historical knowledge, or knowledge of the current policies of a particular administration. But it makes no sense to talk about "policy experience", foreign or otherwise.

As the brilliant black economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, the only people who could acquire negotiating experience are the President and the Secretary of State. A senator or governor visiting foreign countries, or giving speeches in foreign countries, or meeting with the heads of foreign countries, does not give that person any negotiating experience whatsoever. He or she has no authority to negotiate. Politicians like Obama, who take these kind of junkets at taxpayer expense, are doing so simply for show, trying to build up phoney foreign policy "experience" "credentials that will help to convince a dumbed down electorate that they are "seasoned" and thus "qualified" for more lucrative governmental positions.

Thanks for noticing the cosmic gulf between my rational commentary and the comments of all those pseudo-smart fools (primarily Obama supporters) who have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by the power elite controlled media and academia. Notice how they are all herded onto the same bandwagons, like this pathetically hateful Palin bashing.

They seem to think that foreign affairs qualification consists of having hobnobbed with different heads of state, when exactly the opposite is true. The last thing you want in a President is for some rapport, camaraderie, or friendship to get in the way of telling some world leaders to f**k off if that is what is in the best interest of the United States.

  • Posted By: ksam177 @ 09/28/2008 11:49:29 PM

Since the comparison has already been made, the biggest difference between Palin and Obama is that he is smart. Smart is generally a good thing and can make a big difference with complicated issues and making decisions. Lots of employers even try to hire smart people because it can help their business do better, particularly in executive positions (those that are responsible for running the company). We need a smart president for a while because America is facing some tough times. After that we can have another Republican. As for Palin, after the election I'm sure she will be hired as the chief executive of a Fortune 500 company, perhaps HP. So her fans need not worry. However, I suspect she would be better suited working on a farm applying lipstick to pigs.

  • Posted By: Nins @ 09/28/2008 11:37:10 PM

Sarah Palin is a fraud. She was pregnant before she got married, her 19 year old son is rumored to have serious drug problems, her 17 year old unwed daughter is pregnant, and she has used her political power to get even with people who disagree with her, yet all she talks about is being a "good Christian" and doing God's will. As a Christian she is a hypocrite who can not walk her talk, and as a politician she is completely unqualified to be Vice President. Her interview with Katie Couric showed her to be a woman with a disorganzied mind, a woman who is in over her head, utterly unprepared for the twist her fate has taken. Even committed Republicans who support McCain have to ask themselves if they really would take the risk of putting our country into Palin's hands.

  • Posted By: ArgotMay @ 09/28/2008 11:36:10 PM

Why did we have to wait for Tina Fey to deliver on Palin? If Palin gets in, it is the faults of the millions of cowards who could have spoken up a LOT earlier. Shame, shame, shame.

  • Posted By: fr3dmars @ 09/28/2008 11:34:08 PM

    Simply put - BRAVO!!

Had McCain selected a competent running mate, he _might_ have had a chance!

Double-digit lead in the post-VP debate poles (in Ohio!)?

For the Barack bashers - sorry Bubba, Palin makes Dan Quayle look like a Rhodes scholar - clueless, fearful of witchcraft(!), even further divorced from reality than Sen. McCain vs. Barack Obama, editor of the Harvard Law Review (one of the signal achievements possible for young scholars), who suffers from over-coherence (AKA - thinking deeply and well) rather than the _incoherence_ of the lost generation of Republicans - yes, 2 of 3 current candidates are qualified to be president (Sorry JM - you political whoring rules you out too!)

What depresses me, however is that Obama has found the passion - and doing so has allowed his campaign to descend into mud-wrestling, trade-a-lie-for-a-lie same-old-same-old disgusting politics. He never needed to.

Palin is MORE qualified than all those idiots on Wall Street who have gotten us into the financial mess we are in, and all those wellllllllll educated boobs in Washington, DC who let this mess happen!!!! Its you elitist media types who don't see what we everyday Americans see. You are bigots plain and simple!!!

    • Posted By: Indy Thinker @ 09/28/2008 11:32:52 PM

To zqll, MotherLodeBeth and other GOP worshipers, who feel you are on solid ground pointing out Palin has as much experience as Obama. It's not just experience we need. You idiots voted in Bush twice and he's proven to beyond incompetent AND was a govenor of a state.. maybe 50 maybe a hundred times larger than Alaska? The real issue that that one needs the mental acuity and curiosity to tackle very complex issues that the US faces. Barak is very sharp. He can go toe to toe with Putin. Palin can't. Bush can't. McCain has proven to be too risky.

First, congratulations Mr. Zakaria on your insightful and thought provoking program on CNN. Your questions always evoke the most considered responses from the guests appearing on your show. Now, on to the topic of Sarah Palin's readiness to be Commander in Chief, I agree wholeheartedly that, based on her performance thus far, she is not. Moreover, I believe that Gov. Palin has become the victim of a political charade constructed by John McCain to cast a web of deception and win the power of the WH.

I believe that under other circumstances, Gov. Palin may well have developed the foreign and domestic bona fides over the next 4 or 8 years to easily pass the Commander in Chief test. However, as things are now, she is merely a spectacle, a humorous anecdote on the road to the Nov. 4 elections. Her future political prospects have been squandered on a political gamble. Her credibility both in Alaska and the lower 48 has been lost. And that, in my view, is unforgivable.

  • Posted By: zqll @ 09/28/2008 11:09:17 PM

Whatever criticism that can be leveled agains Palin can be leveled against Obama in spades. Obama takes a trip to Europe, meets some European leaders and according to his backers he has now gained some foreign policy experience? Gimme a break!
Obama would have had us out of Iraq by now regardless of conditions on the ground and Iraq would have gone to hell in a hand basket. That is why a terrorist group like Hamas sees Obama as a "useful idiot" and supports him for the presidency.

The following comes from pagamasmedia.com dated May 15, 2008 - by Steve Gill:

"A few weeks ago, Ahmed Yousef, a top political adviser for terrorist group Hamas, said in an interview on TheWABC radio in New York that the group supports Obama. ???We like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,??? Yousef explained. Hamas, which seized control of the Palestinian Gaza last June, has long been designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department."
"The Obama campaign has claimed to be ???flattered??? by the fact that the Hamas endorsement compared their candidate to Kennedy. Obama himself told the Atlantic magazine that he understands why Hamas would support him. ???It???s conceivable that there are those in the Arab world who say to themselves, ???This is a guy who spent some time in the Muslim world, has a middle name of Hussein and appears more worldly and has called for talks with people, and so he???s not going to be engaging in the same sort of cowboy diplomacy as George Bush.??????
    ----------
It's no surprised that Zakaria has not commented on Obama's lack of knowledge, understanding and concern that Hamas is a terrorists organization nor commented on the fact that Obama shares and sympathizes with Hamas' view concerning Bush's diplomacy concerning the terrorist group Hamas. It is no surprise because Zakaria shares the same views toward Hamas as his bud Obama does.
    Shameful!

With all do respect to all who is posting here...What does Sarah Palin's experience (or lack there of) have to do with Obama. Why is it that the only way anyone can defend Palin is to discount Obama? Listen, no one can deny the contribution that McCain has made to this Country, but please...Sarah Palin is not the best that the Republican Party could do for a running mate for Senator McCain. It is unprecedented that a Presidential Candidiate choose a running mate that he did not adequately vet and then deny the press access to that running mate. Since we only have the three interviews to judge Palin on, I would say that he did choose someone who is not qualified to be the VP. Her record does not matter, she can't form an intelligent opinion by herself!!! That is scary. Even if you don't like Obama (yes, I support him but thought that McCain won the debate) you can't deny that he is informed about world issues. The candidates just do not degree. That is usually what happens when people are on opposing sides. But back to Palin...I consider her an embarrassment to the Republican ticket and I fault McCain for making such a poor choice in running mate. While she energized the GOP for a couple of weeks she can not fool everybody all the time. She gives a great speech but when she has to think on her own, she hurts McCain way more than she could ever help him. And that is a fact.
