I am an impartial foreign observer.Democracy is a wonderful prevliege we all seek to enjoy, the US is seen as the front runner for the Western World The sad fact is th Village Idiot can rise to power. But I fear for an old man a other of a young family trying to lead the world I think the US owes it to the World to come up with a better option

    Hi Fareed --

I agree with your evaluation of Gov. Palin's readiness for the office of V.P. But, what can we do to encourage Sen. McCain to ask her to leave the ticket? I guess this is really a reason to vote for the Democrats in 2008.

Swansonss do you need a Waaaaaaaabulance?? with that whine? Sheesh. Foxnews has been in the tank for Bush and Republicans for years. Since 9-11, our media was too scared sh*tless to be balanced or even tell the truth that Bush was/is an idiot. That liberal bias is only balance you are reading/hearing. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN are finally growing a pair and questiong the last eight years of Bush's bull.

Poor, poor, extreme rightwing Repubs just cannot see the fact that Sarah Palin truely is incompetent for the "HIGHER ECHELONS" of public service. A small-town mayor and a small-population governor who has not kept up with world affairs (by her own admission) and with the lower 48 is selected by a senile, 72 year old "maverick" and you people think she's ready for VP? McCain met Palin ONE time and then met her a SECOND time at one of his many homes and offered her the VP position. McCain did not even KNOW this person!! There are many Republican women in government positions who are 100 times more knowledgeable of every phase and factor in governing, yet McCain bypassed all of them for this woman. Go figure!! Guess he picked her because she once competed in a beauty pageant. His first wife was a beautiful model, his second wife, Cindy, was a rodeo queen, guess he also wanted a beauty pageant contestent! Remember, McCain VOLUNTEERED Cindy to enter the Buffalo Chip Beauty Contest where the women dress sparsily?? Remember he said he would be very proud to have Cindy as fist lady and a beauty queen at the same time?? Guess since Cindy did not enter that contest, McCain decided he would pick Pilan as his VP so that if he won the election he could then be proud to boast she was his veep and beauty queen! Think about it. I tried to get into McCain's head and this is the only reason I could formulate as to WHY he would pick such an incompetent person to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. Please try to remember that when McCain first introduced Sarah, he described her as "MY PARTNER AND MY SOULMATE". Again, please think about this, what SANE male candidate would describe his female runningmate in those terms??

Mr. Zakaria is from India. One should be wondering what the heck is his business with giving analysis on U.S. Politics. He would be of much help if he uses his great talent in journalism for the betterment of his country. Most of the regions in India live in poverty and should stick his nose there instead.

Mr. Zacharia cares very deeply about the citizens of the world. Unlike yourself, he possesses powers of analysis that make him eminently qualified to observe both our triumphs and our inanities. You, too, would do well to develop the ability to think globally, since we are a planet in crisis on so many levels.

To all the GOP dead enders who feel they are on solid ground pointing out Palin has as much experience as Obama. It's not just experience we need. You idiots voted in Bush twice and he's proven to beyond incompetent. What is also required is experience AND the mental acuity and curiosity to tackle very complex that the US faces. Barak is very sharp. He can go toe to toe with Putin. Palin can't. Bush can't. McCain has proven to be too risky.

I agree with your comment. But I think the problem that John McCain has is he is suffering with Alzheimer. This is causing him to have memory lose and his brain cells are not functioning the reason he has become a big liar and forgets all the time. Could it be that Sarah Palin is showing some signs of Alzheimer too? Maybe she is just plain dumb.

It's sad, truly sad to see you spew the same anchient Republican rumors that were put out early in the campaign. The "Hussein" Obama bit which is supposed to make us believe he's a terrorist, the not putting his hand on his heart (see Snopes.com) and the flag pin, which he only skipped wearing a few times and has nothing to do with you patriotism. Are you wearing your flag pin right now? I actually feel sorry for you that you're so easily convinced. Try thinking for yourself- you might find it refreshing.

Recent poll summary from TMP listed below.... BIG Obama bounce post debate..... The majority of Americans see what McCain is... an angry country club vetran and cancer survivor whose better days are clearly behind him. I respect his service to his country but he's not the answer. Six years of GOP rule has bankrupt the country.

    TMP
With one new day of post-debate data within the three-day tracking polls, Barack Obama's lead is growing.

??? Gallup: Obama 50%, McCain 42%, with a ±2% margin of error. Yesterday, Obama was up 49%-44%.

??? Rasmussen: Obama 50%, McCain 44%, with a ±2% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.

    ??? Hotline/Diageo: Obama 47%, McCain 42%, with a ±3.2% margin of error, compared to a 48%-43% Obama lead yesterday.

??? Research 2000: Obama 50%, McCain 43%, with a ±3% margin of error. Yesterday, Obama was up 49%-43%.

Adding these polls together and weighting them by sample sizes, Obama is ahead by a margin of 49.7%-42.9%, up from a lead yesterday of 49.3%-43.8%.

These numbers entirely span the time since John McCain announced his quasi-suspension of his campaign to deal with the financial crisis, and they include one day of post-debate data. And it looks like that period of time has been very favorable for Barack Obama.

Jojousa, the least you can is give sensible feed back. Are you one of those who can't call a spade a spade? Even a child could see that Governor Palin genuinely messed up in this interview. She was pathetic, she was embarassing, she is simply not ready, her addition to the ticket was simply political. What does Mr Zakaria's birth place have to do with this? Hey guess what, I am a republican and I can call a spade a spade.

  • Posted By: wertheworld @ 09/28/2008 10:44:38 PM

What is this. The bloggers don't even know that Putin is no longer the president of Russia. The president of Russsia is Medvedev. So much for foreign affairs.

Seems to me that Sen. Obama family represents the most stable and truely inspired vision of the American Family . More so than the twice married Senator Mccain or Palin the mother who puts her own special needs newborn ,preganant daughter and children's lives in the hands of nannies and government appointed yes men so her and her hubby can "unblinkingly,
" yet niavely" accept a job way over Sarah's head to satisfy her egotistic ambitions.

Senator McCain made the wrong choice. His camp thought that this woman would both stimulate the Hillary voters and the republican base. The truth is undeniable; she is not prepared to lead. She is not the least bit "worldly" and knows little else about the world other than her home state of Alaska. The Republicans know this, but they have to make the best of McCain's choice. You certainly wouldn't expect any loyal republican to say it was a bad choice- they're going to tow the company line and do it with a smile. They???re clearly putting the needs of their party ahead of the needs of this country, but it is typical of the current Republican "win at all costs" strategy, which brought them to power in Washington.

  • Posted By: Unapym @ 09/28/2008 10:41:51 PM

A mindless Glide you are. Sitting in a POW camp is tough service worthy of commendation, but it does not, in and of itself, add to one's qualifications to lead. As Bill Maher noticed of Palin almost immediately, she has a small mind, meaning that she does not view issues globally. The Couric interview demostrate that Mr. Maher had her pegged from the start. And now we see that she puts faith in witch doctors!! But even more bothersome is McCain's recklessness in having chosen her. McCain's age and his bouts with cancer make it all too likely that we would face a Palin presidency. That risk, frankly, cannot be taken.

Say all you want about Sara Palin but someone needs to tell the messiah who graduated from Harvard the difference between an FHA loan and a VA loan. During Obama's interview at Columbia university he stated that one of the benefits his grandfather received after serving in World War II was that he was eligible for an FHA loan rather than a VA loan. Someone also needed to call him on not being completely truthful as it was his great uncle who served in World War II and not his grandfather

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/28/2008 10:40:55 PM

Both grandfather and great-uncle served in the Army in WWII. Perhaps Obama's grandfather used an FHA instead of a VA loan. The advantage of a VA is that it required no down payment -- but there were tighter controls on what the buyer could pay for a house. If Obama's grandfather wanted a house that cost more than the VA said it should (not uncommon in Hawaii) and he had the money for a downpayment, he might have been better off going FHA. Does it matter? The point is that Obama's family served their country and got a head start because of the benefits afforded working people at that time.

    • Posted By: wildernesskitty @ 09/28/2008 7:52:29 PM

Yes, that's truly what's important , FHA v. VA loan.... keep grabbing on to whatever tiny insignificant bit you can, and watch the rest of us progress and elect Barack to bring the country the same success he built in his own life

      • Posted By: Smart Democrat @ 09/28/2008 8:07:24 PM

Miss Kitty we will just see how far you progress when Obama becomes potus.

This article is not about Obama. This article is one of many both on the left and right side looking into the qualifications of Palin. Here is what the right has to say about Palin...

Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

And the above list of conservative commentators are some of the most prominent on the right side of the spectrum. Considering the facts and the commentary of these well respected journalists posting what they did, can you still look someone in eye, knowing that Palin could become POTUS, and say without hesitation, or trepidation that she is ready right now to lead our country after seeing Couric's interview with Palin?

And don't give the BS that Couric was hard on her. If you saw the debates, Couric's questions were easier than the ones that both McCain and Obama were given. So if you think Couric was hard, what is she going to do when she has her face-off with Biden? Case closed.

Let me make this brief. There would not be any controversy if Sarah Palin were qualified.
