Can we admit the obvious? Obama is just as unqualified and Zakaria and others don't seem to care. Anyone critical of Palin's lack of experience who does not acknowledge the scant experience of Obama is a very poor journalist. McCain and Biden are the most qualified, and their partners are inexperienced celebreties.

Truth hurts the Liberal nut jobs. But I would take a Palin over a Radical Socialist Obama any day!

Accurate and masterful piece.I couldn't agree more!!!.
Given the overwhelming evidence regarding how and why John McCain chose Sarah Palin over Mitt Rommney, Tom Ridge and all the other mor qualified candidates; McCain was purely motivted by pure selfish interest to get elected president. He didn't exercise the "superior judgement" and didn't consider even once that "the country security and welbeing" come first!!!.
The central question for the voter is can you trust the security of your kids, your family and yourself in the hands of Sarah Palin???. John McCain met Sarah Palin only once. And the second meeting decided to chose her as his running mate.Other than answering some questionnaire gleaned from google; the McCain campaign never really vetted Sarah Palin effectively. The first tme in modern American presidential history; a very very unqualified VP is being pushed through our throats by lies and deceptions. You ask questions, you're accused of sexism and partisanship!!!. Freedom of press and speech has been manipulated and undermined just to hide a "terrible misjudgement of one erratic and temperamental nominee, John McCain!!!.
Now, the voters are paying attention and have decided John McCain is too erratic, irrational and lack the judgement and cool mind to lead this country in the 21st Century!!!!.
We don't need a soldier nor a pilot whose basic instinct is to "scramble the jets to shoot and bomb and ask ask questions later. Instead of another 8 years of ruling by "guts" like George Bush; we need a smart, intelligent leader who rules by reason and commonsense!!!.

Is it "we send out those" or is it "we send those out"? You say both.

  • Posted By: clarelav @ 09/28/2008 9:37:51 PM

Let's face the facts, McCain only selected Palin ask his VP running mate to one up Obama. McCain made this chess move as a result of Obama not selecting Hilary Clinton to be his running mate. It is clear that McCain made a huge mistake in judgment. Afterall he had only met Palin a few times and new little about her. Palin's interview with Katie Couric was so ludicrous it was embarrassing. This country will be in even more trouble than it is in now if McCain wins the election. He is 72 years old. Can you imagine what a disaster things will be in if Palin becomes the President. She is inexperienced, unknowlegdeable on key issues that are pertinent to our country's economy and interests around the world. She couldv'e travelled to Russia as a tourist for crying out loud. Afterall, she is the one that keeps reminding us how close Alaska is to Russia. She's travelled nowhere and knows next to nothing about running an entire country. Heck, she cannot even run her own household. Where was she when her teenaged daughter was making an out of wedlock baby? She needs to keep her day job and take care of her family. Leave the job of running this massive country to those who can handle it. McCain you really are suspect and should be held accountable for your lack in judgement. I thought you always put your country first?

Sarah Palin: Proof that Murphys Law is still in effect.

As to her experience vs. Obama's, just sit down and listen to each one of them talk about the issues. If that doesn't do it for you, then I'd suggest you get on the first flight to Alaska and be on the lookout for them Ruskies...

Hear,Hear. I could'nt agree more. This woman was chosen merely for the virtue of being a woman. It is horribly uncomfortable to watch her regurgitate these talking points that have been drilled into her in a random manner to any question of substance asked of her.McCain should be ashamed of himself to put this hapless person in this position and for endangering the country by potentially putting her in line to be the president! HHhhhhhhhhHow freaking scary is that?

Calling all Palin supporters. I will ask yet again that one of you please translate the following passage of Gov. Palin for the rest of us.

    From the Couric interview.

COURIC: Why isn't it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy? Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: That's why I say, I like ever American I'm speaking with were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the tax payers looking to bailout. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy. Helping the ... Oh, it's got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americas. And trade we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive scary thing. But 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

Somewhere poor ol' Senator McCain is beating his head against a wall......

    • Posted By: wertheworld @ 09/28/2008 9:07:44 PM

ITS SIMPLE. A BETTER ECONOMY HELPS EVERYONE. ITS A RIPPLE AFFET. FOR EXAMPLE: The more industries we have, the more jobs there will be. If our financial instutions are stable, they will be able to lend money to buy a car or a home. Therefore, growth in our economy will not only help individuals but create more revenue on the state and federal level.

I guess it was difficult to understand who was not a student in economics or ran a business.

I figured since no one answered your question, I will add mine on too. Because nobody has an answer for you or wht follows either...

Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. Parker's comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president.

And the above list of conservative commentators are some of the most prominent on the right side of the spectrum. Considering the facts and the commentary of these well respected journalists posting what they did, can you still look someone in eye, knowing that Palin could become POTUS, and say without hesitation, or trepidation that she is ready right now to lead our country after seeing Couric's interview with Palin?

And don't give the BS that Couric was hard on her. If you saw the debate, Couric's questions were easier than the ones that both McCain and Obama were given. So if you think Couric was hard, what is she going to do when she has her face-off with Biden? Case closed.

No doubts that Gov, Palin is politically charismatic, but one wonders how she can stand to the challenges facing this great nation if she cannot comprehend the questions and issues but rambles on important issues of our time. Her answers to recent interviews were embarrassing and belittles her intelligence but one is mazed that those answers were hailed by her party supporters.

Palin is a VP pick. not Pres pick.

Youv'e seen the scariest president over the last eight years. So you failed by electing bush don't fool yourself into making the same mistake twice. And when your praying to Karl rove tonight as him if he can undo the mess he and bush put this country in.

      • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/28/2008 7:42:07 PM

OMG where have you been for these last several days? You must be kidding. Even people like George Will question Palin's qualifications. You can name call Obama all you want. It is not going to change the outcome of the presidential race. It just shows a lack of class and character by you. Do I need to say more?

  • Posted By: HowToLearn @ 09/28/2008 8:52:32 PM

It's tough to imagine how much worse things could be, but if Sarah Palin is the best we've got for John McCamin's running mate, then we are in more trouble than we think. The woman tells lipstick jokes to heads of state, and can't put together a coherent statement on any of the issues (except maybe that you can see Russia from Alasaka) and it is beyond imaganing that Sarah Palin can do anything other than look good killing moose and wearing lipstick. Other than that, she simply fires people she disagrees with and heat's up google's search engines about her legs and affairs.

    NObama.....
I agree with Obama Mccain ==This country is heading for a great fall, not just the morals of the country which government can't regulate anyway, nor would I want it to but in every aspect because we continually refuse to learn from history. That makes us stupid and very, very foolish and I'm afraid we'll to regret it later. I'm amazed at the people that want a hand-out (not speaking of those that are in TRUE need) and want big government to play big daddy. We're just a few hairs away from living in a socialist government as it is now. What is wrong with a people that would prefer that to living in the freedom that our forefathers fought and died so that we could reap the benefits. They knew what it was like and wanted better for us. Not just Obama buying votes with all his promises of all the give-a-way programs he can think of, but Democrats in general. They've tried every way they know how to make each of us as dependant on government as they can. What a sad state of affairs. After reading some of the of comments about Sara Palin I've come to conclusion that jealousy is a terrible thing. As Obama says, 'Just Words'.....WE have a lot more serious, life threatening issues to be concerned about than whether this person running for VICE president is as smart as one running for president. You people are scary ones.

Thank you Mr. Zakaria for writing the truth about Sarah Palin. The choice of Palin is important not on because she would be on 72 year old heart beat from being President, but also because it shows how reckless and unpredictable a President McCain would be. In these difficult, complex times, America needs a steady hand at the wheel, and with the selection of Ms. Palin, McCain has clearly shown he not the person for the job.

  • Posted By: jgohio @ 09/28/2008 8:30:59 PM

I believe McClain used bad judgment when choosing Palin for vice president it was so un professional of him to put her in that possession knowing she wasn't ready to lead this country if by chance he wasn't able to do so. he only chose her to get the votes and that's not putting this country first its putting him first I think its degrading to the American women to think that we are stupid

  • Posted By: vakosh @ 09/28/2008 8:29:18 PM

Yeah I know ... all the men in the world are perfect and all the women are stupid. WE GET IT LOUD AND CLEAR. You will find fault with ANY FEMALE ..... but let empty headed Barrack stand up there and that is just perfectly fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see the men have done so well as evidence by our current state of affairs, but let's keep going down that big ugly dark road because, we don't want to let you in, no matter what.

Yes, I am Okay with it but what I am not ok with is YOU! It is people like you that try to put a good man down I bet you have so many skeletons in your closet matter of fact you probably have the whole cemetery buried there. So if I was you I would be so quick to judge. Also I bet you are probably catching HELL just like a lot of more Americas because of how the economy is functioning today but you hate to see a good man win. Well if I was you I would get ready because Barack Obama will be our next President! Sarah Palin might try to get her pastor to perform a little witchcraft but it want work No weapons form against Obama shall prosper. What Palin needs to do is get on her broom and fly back to Alaska and keeping looking over there at Russia!

Fareed you just let the cat out of the bag, the elephant in the room is sexism ,its always used as an excuse when she is questioned and when the media lay emphasis the fact that she is not qualified to run anything. who was she running against in Alaska? is there a forum where you can put me up against her on foreign affairs? someone please ask her whats the difference between democracy and capitalism, the rule of law anwhat a plebisite

  • Posted By: pastorvm @ 09/28/2008 8:16:03 PM

I never felt that the Palin pick was smart. John McCain was simply attempting to score points with women and also attempting to steal some of the history making from the democrates. McCain is a veteran and a former POW and I am proud of him for that. I have great respect for anyone who puts theire life on the line for this great country. I gave 25 years of my life to servint in the U S Armny, and spent two tours in Viet Nam. If I am ever asked to put on a uniform again, I would do it without hasitation. This is why I cannot understand why a man who says he puts his country first would pick someone who may have to take his place as the leader of the free world, who is totally unqualified. Gov Pain is no more able to fill the office of Vice President than "Mikey", who is my pet golden retreaver.

  • Posted By: Therese in NV @ 09/28/2008 5:24:16 PM

Everyone knows the media is pro democrat. How can a media analyst state Governor Sarah Palin is not capable of being Vice President. She has successfully managed and balanced a multi-billion dollar state budget, she has executive experience on domestic issues. With Russia and Canada at her borders, she has strong national security experience. All these traits are necessary in a Vice President and neither Senator Barack Obama or Senator Joe Biden have any of these experiences. Sarah Biden is a proven politician and it it scaring the "beans" out of the Democrats and their supporters.

    • Posted By: sherrybb @ 09/28/2008 8:15:20 PM

So Theresa, you mean you buy that national security experience argument because of the location of her state????Please tell me that isn't so. What is so very sad to me is that people like you like her because she is personable, nice..probably like her rabid right wing views too? She hired someone to run the job as mayor..she could not handle a town of 5000, and she left that town in terrible fiscal shape. Governor...looks like she has done ok for the people if you don't care about the abuse of power, or that she hires her very unqualified friends. Lots of strong conservatives are urging her to back out..what is their angle? Are they too biased? Alaska is like no other state, and being governor there is nowhere near like being governor of New York, or Calif...heck even the mayor of New york has more experience than the gov of Alaska. Yes, it scares me that you really might believe what you say.

    • Posted By: bennettsusan @ 09/28/2008 6:31:17 PM

      Dear Theresa in NV,

It is people like you who scare me to death in this election. Anyone with a clear thought in their head can see that Palin is way out of her league. McCain lost every bit of credibility when he selected her as his running mate. He put our country at risk.

The only reason there is a risk, however, is that apparently there are some people, like you, who for reasons I can't fathom, are willing to set all evidence to the contrary aside, and vote for McCain/Palin. To down play Palin's role, and assume nothing will happen to McCain is a risk our country cannot afford to take. Any responsible person should be furious at McCain for this outlandish showboating.

Your shallow argument is essentially that because Palin governed on a local level, she trumps Obama and Biden in the experience category. It doesn't matter that Alaska has significantly less population than any large city in the US. She has had absolutely ZERO exposure to national issues and Alaska's proximity to Russia and Canada has still given her ZERO foreign relations experience. She herself has admitted to never having dealings with either country. To suggest that she has better national security/foreign relations experience than Biden is beyond laughable. Until last week, she has never met even one foreign leader! Biden has met MOST foreign leaders and he knows them and they know him by name. Even Republicans name Joe Biden as one of the most knowledgeable in the world on these issues. Obama has been in the Illinois State and US legislatures for years.

To begin with, both Obama and Biden have law degrees from some of our nation's finest universities. Both have been professors and lecturers, of Constitutional Law. They have studied it extensively. Palin has a four year journalism degree that she aquired from a mix of six different average community/state colleges. She went on from there to be a sportscaster. She doesn't even have the education to build on. You can glorify her "regular woman" status until the cows come home, but the job of VP of the USA is not a job for a "regular woman."

Make no mistake about it. If your idea of putting a thumb in the eye of Washington is to vote for McCain/Palin, than you are being an irresponsible voter. McCain blew it when he selected her. His incredibly dangerous move is putting our country at risk.

Theresa, you irrational ranting is scary. You are obviously hearing/seeing what you want to hear/see. You may like her because she is a woman. Palin is an insult to every qualified woman McCain could have selected. If you simply don't like Obama, okay. That doesn't make Palin qualified either. Vote independent, or don't vote at all.
