Sarah Palin is an over achiever. She reached her level of incompetence when Alaskans elected her as Governor. She is now reaching for new heights. The ???Peter Principle??? is alive and well. By selecting this cognitively challenged running mate, John McCain reached his own level of incompetence.

Republican or Democrat, you must admit those were really poor answers to the questions. It is apparent Ms. Palin can not formulate her own ideas, on the spur of the moment. She lacks not only the vocabulary of politics but also the charisma. I think proximity politics is at work here and it's designed to attract and entice only the dumbest Americans. In what reality does being near something (i.e. Russia, a foreign person) automatically produce expertise on the subject? How does being in the executive branch of state government translate to executive experience at the national level? Oh both terms have "executive" in them so the American people will buy it. I was excited by Palin (I'm not liberal by any means) but then she has simply not produced one moment of flash or brillance. That she is being hidden from the media can only say one thing. No, the media is not sexist and mean. Being hidden means McCain campaign is afraid to gamble on what stupid thing she might say next. Please Gov. Palin go back to Alaska.

"How does being in the executive branch of state government translate to executive experience at the national level?"

Do you even realize how idiotic you are. You have just implied that the only persons qualified to be Presidential candidates are past presidents!

      Bwhahaha!!!

Palin's just making things up and trying to sound confident about it. She has very little awareness. Little phrases like "shore up the economy" pop in and out every once in a while, but she's too stubborn to admit that she doesn't know what she's talking about and isn't what she's pretending to be. The sad thing for her is that is is painfully obvious that she is rambling incoherently. How humiliated she must feel. Shame on McCain for putting her and her family in this situation. And Shame on McCain for doing such a piss poor job in selecting a potential president.

When McCain carefully selected Gov Palin, after a lengthy 15 minute glance, I can imagine his handlers screaming and jumping about like a cage full of hungry monkeys that had just been given a basket of something they did not consider to be food. Picking a blank cartridge like Sarah Palin, you have to wonder just what it was that came ahead of John McCain's consideration for this country.

If experience is so important why did we have failures from: Lyndon Johnson, Viietnam 48,000 dead, and The Great Society which broke up African American families.,John F. JKennedy, Bay Of Pigs where 1500 Cuban Americans were slaughtered because the Cuban air force wasn't destroyed as planned. Richard Nixon, Watergate, Jimmy Carter, 20% interest and , Iran hostage crisis.. Common sense listening to good advice is what the job is all about. and a strong character

You are absolutely right, a strong character is very important and this will bring some good appointees to advice and guide them.

Lyndon Johnso, Vietnam, JfK, Bay Of Pigs, Nixon, Watergate, Carter, 20 interest, and Iran hostage crisis. Lot's of education and experience!!!Good, common sense and good advice is the commodity needed..

another great article Fareed! Palin is becoming a serious problem for McCain. If he went with Romney, at least he would have someone who would be an expert in the economy. I would not be surprised to see Palin back out of this race.

After realizing what McCain pulled from well-deserved obscrtity, I can imagine his handlers jumping around, screaming like a cage full of hungry monkeys that had just been given a basket of spoiled fruit.

Why exactly is Back Obama more qualified Sarah Palin? His Russia-Georgia gaffes ought to have been a red flag- and those gaffes came after the world was made aware of his '300 foreign policy experts.' Was Jimmy Carter more qualified to president? He was surprised to learn that the Soviet leadership were evil and duplicitous. What makes Palin less qualified than Obama or Carter?

Watch the Couric interviews and all will be clear, except the Governor's responses. Seriously, watch it , I dare you.

      • Posted By: researchok @ 09/27/2008 10:18:45 PM

I watched Obama made a fool of himself on the world stage with Georgia-Russia remarks. You don't want tto play the comparison game. What is undeniable is Obama's lack of executive experience. Saying 'I'm Barack Obama and I approved this ad' isn't exactly a resume builder.

        • Posted By: neos @ 09/27/2008 10:29:23 PM

Oh yes I do want to play the comparison game. Watch the interview!!! And watch the debate where Sen. Obama and Sen.McCain showed what presidents sound like.. I double dare you.

If experience is what is needed why did we have so many spectacular failures from Lyndon Johnson (Vietnam) John Kennedy (Bay Of Pigs) Richard Nixon (Watergate) Jimmy Carter (20% interest rate) . What the job requires is: Pick the good advice offered by your cabinet and others, and use common sense. The main problem is that ,"Common Sense Is Not As Common as you think!!!

Many of the posters here refer to Palin as a conservative, or they use the term neo-con (Whatever that is?). Why don???t we ask Sarah Palin to define conservatism? I???ll bet that she doesn???t have a clue. I???ll give you a clue. People who appear uninformed and cognitively challenged are not by definition conservative.

Excuse me but where did some of you gentlewomen and gentlemen get your manners? Are you in the habit of spouting hate and bigotry when you are face to face with someone? This is an important election. Please read the candidate's positions and the party platforms as well as listen to interviews and commentaries. Try to be unemotional. We need to pick leaders who can discuss tough problems with other world leaders and who can listen to their points of view with respect and understanding. We are not the rulers of the world, we live with other people having different cultures. The way you are talking you sound like you hate everyone who questions your candidates qualifications. If qualifications cannot be discussed in a rational way how can we possibly make any kind of informed decision. Remember it is the job of newsmen to ask questions. Do you really think name calling is conducive to a good discussion of ideas?

PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A SECOND AND LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS...
Things are rarely as simple as they seem on the surface. I feel like McCaine camp is hiding Sarah Palin for a reason. Her limited exposure to the Media and American public could be well thought campaign strategy.
The ???ELITE, biased, and liberal media??? and democrats are seeing her as an unfit person for the office. Now just when everyone calls her off, and VP choice seems like an obvious disastrous mistake she will make a remarkable comeback in the debate. If she beats Biden on Oct 2nd, McCaine will get props for his wise and bold judgment. Media will lose some credibility among independents. McCaine might come on top again.
    An Obama Supporter.

I've considered this as a possibility, but I keep coming back to one factor. Could ANYBODY other than a veteran actor pull off such a farce as believably as she has done?

I'm glad you found the post so amusing, "DaNoot". It's important to laugh. Thanks for reading.

"Bone Dry": He's been cancer free for 8 years. Check your facts. And 'egoist'? The only thing BO's truly capable of is writing books about himself.

Naive, idealistic, radical Islamic(???) socialist (but no "hidden agenda"...). These are desirable qualifications for the highest executive office in the land? I know opinions and the right to express them are what this country's all about. I also know it scares the s*!# out of me to even think about putting someone in the White House who is too cool to put his hand on his heart when pledging his allegiance to the country he wants to lead.

How do you know anything about McCain's health? He won't release his health records as others have done before him...and he has a propensity for lying. So, you actually know nothing except that he has an idiot for a running mate that even his conservative colleagues can't get behind. Open those slits in your head called eyes and read something that isn't completely right-wing drivel.

  • Posted By: NewsweekReader2008 @ 09/27/2008 10:20:49 PM

Wow! I didn't think I could be more astounded than when I heard Palin's comments about how being in proximity to Russia made her qualified on foreign policy. But, her ramblings in response to the bailout question remind me of Caitlin Upton's infamous response during the 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant. I was concerned about Palin's experience level, but now, I'm concerned about her basic ability to synthesize and understand complex issues. Unfortunately, she is proving herself unsuited to be the Vice President.

Nice article! Coming from an author who has always been non-partisan, its clear that Palin is completely unqualified. Every time she opens her mouth, any informed person is like "huh?" even more so than for George Bush.
