Fareed, A very well thought out and crisp piece. It was indeed McCain's folly to have thrust Gov Palin in a spot which she is not prepared for. Why Gov Palin, when he could have asked Ms Condoleeza Rice to be in the VP spot. Few would have a quibble with that.

Well written article - these points are clear, but I unfortunately, I don't know how well rational and logical thinking will sway voters. But I will tell you that with McCain's old age and his extensive history of health problems, having Palin one heartbeat away from the Presidency scares the heck ouf of me. Palin should look America in the eye and say, "You know it's true I don't have the foreign policy experience that Joe Biden has. And you know what...Neither does the top of his ticket!" Getting your passport stamped on numerous photo-ops around the world does not count as "policy" experience! And the only reason people think Obama did so well at the debate is because expectations were so low to begin with. It's kind of like having your child at their first hockey game and being thrilled because he managed to slide the puck on the right direction even if he couldn't score.. When this election is over, the liberal media will be left out on the ledge. Go ahead, JUMP!

With the Road to Nowhere, Bridge to Nowhere and Sarah's pet earmark's, I think that the press is just beginning to do what they are supposed to.

I cannot wait for Sarah Palin the fraud to be exposed.

Qutie true. It also speaks of one other thing people aren't saying about the elephant in the room.
John McCain has been getting away with calling himself and her "mavericks". What people say quietly is that John McCain appears erratic when he makes the decisions he has made, Sarah Palin for Governor, going back to Washington DC to involve himself in the 700 billion bailout; no one is saying he is dangerous.

  • Posted By: sjaunna @ 09/27/2008 8:38:10 PM

AS McCain would be the oldest person to be elected as afirst termPresident, that puts Palin one heart beat away from President. If that in not enought to terrify you I don't know what will.

The media just does not get it. A presidential qualifiction does NOT include being on the debating team or impressing Katie Couric, or YOU.

What we are looking for is someone we trust, who shares our beliefs. If Palin needs INSTANT foriegn policy experience, she turns to peole like Kissinger. She trusts him, we trust her,

Weather she has answers at her finger tips is meaningless. Weather she shares our views, and McCains views is important.

Bottom line - how can you trust Obama given his NAFTA letter to canada the same week he speak the reverse to auto workers. He lies.

What was that button thingy in his mouth during the debate??

Joe Q Public, you seem to be telling it like you see not - not making up garbage. Thank goodness!

    accompany Russian bombers near Alaska
    12:11 | 09/ 04/ 2008

MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - NATO fighters accompanied Russian Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers on a regular strategic patrol flight on Wednesday, a Russian Air Force spokesman said.

Four Bear bombers and four Il-78 aerial tankers conducted a patrol mission over the Arctic and the Pacific Ocean and performed aerial refueling, which is the second exercise of Russian bombers near Alaska in three weeks.

"During the flight over neutral waters near Alaska, the Russian planes were accompanied by NATO fighters," Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said.

Interceptions of Russian combat aircraft by NATO fighters have been a common occurrence since Russia resumed strategic bomber patrol flights over the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans last August, following an order signed by President Vladimir Putin.

Drobyshevsky reiterated that regular patrols of Russian strategic bombers do not pose a threat to other countries, and Russia always issues prior warnings of their patrols.

He said that the main purpose of these missions was to train pilots in instrument flight and aerial refueling.

What was Palin's role in this incident?

  • Posted By: don r @ 09/27/2008 8:33:22 PM

MORON..........WHAT SARAH WAS REFERRING TO WAS THE EXTENSIVE RADAR AND NORAD COMMAND AND MISSILE DEFENCE SYSTEMS WHICH ARE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE FACING RUSSIA.

Sarah may have been referring to those things, but she didn't actually mention them!

As Mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin ordered the town hospital to make women who were sexually assualted or raped pay for their own forensic investigation kits. The federal law that Joe Biden got passed through Congress specifically prohibited this. Alaska state legislators had to pass a state law requiring Wasilla to stop this practice. We need to ask her why Wasilla did this to women in the first place.

Fareed, A very well thought out and crisp piece. It is not fair for Gov Palin to have been put in a position that she is unable to handle. What was McCain thinking? He had the choice of bringing in a brilliant statesman - Ms Condoleeza Rice to be the VP on the ticket (assuming she would have accepted). No one would have had a quibble with that.

Palin is exactly what this country needs. I'm not surprised by the author, for he supports a man, B. Hussein Obama, whose best friend is William Ayers, a former Weatherman whose group was responsible for a bomb killing a police officer, and recently had his photo taken STANDING ON THE AMERICAN FLAG, and a pastor who hates white people. So why does it not surprise me he doesn't support a strong, intelligent, white woman?

What is not said in all the discussion about the feminist warrior of the frozen north is that she's a sleaze and a liar. Everyone comments on how ill-prepared and-- well, there'sl no way to say this nicely -- stupid she is. How is it that no one is paying any attention to the graft she has taken, the abuses of power in her roles as small-town mayor and small-state governor, the lies about her holier-than-thou rejection of earmarks? How is it that you Palinistas suck up her myth and never even consider the reality of what a bad choice she is? Can you really be that stupid?

It is absolutely appalling how the press has given up their obligation for informing the public and are blatently trying to force Obama on us. If you guys only did 1/10 of the reporting on Obama as you have on Palin there would be more than enough evidence to show he is unfit for the presidency. He has absolutely no clue what he's doing and has no executive experience doing anything. He's the lipstick on the same old 60's crap that is already been proven it doesn't work anywhere it's tried. Your affirmative action lending programs are repsonsible for this mess we're in now. Putting that empty suit in office will only further wreck this country.

To all republicans supporting mccain and palin, you are entitled to believe whatever nonsense you believe in! But don't tell the American people that Sarah Palin is the best choice for vp and is overqualified than Barack Obama! If you compare their academic credentials, expertise in policies and economy, and experience, it is very obvious that Obama is far more superior while Palin can't even give a coherent answer! Mccain choosing Palin as his running mate is an insult to America and to all of us intelligent people. There is a reason why people attend good universities to fulfill their academic potentials and become the best of the best. Judging by one's academic achievements, we can predict whether the person is able to make sound decisions and has the ability to perform well. Obama has clearly proven that he's the right person for presidency by his academic achievements alone. Does Sarah Palin have good academic credentials? I think not! American people deserve the BEST of the BEST.

She has the best academic credentials -- she didn't attend an Ivy League university.

Fareed: It seems that Pailin is too "Un New York" for your taste. Maybe you should write a book titled , "Why They Hate Us", about the feeling the rest of the country has for Manhattan.

Well and good to have a glimpse of what the RepubliCONs are putting up for VP. But don't fall into the trap of spending a lot of time on Palin, this contest is McCain vs. Obama. They have both demonstrated the soundness of their judgment in their VP picks, and this article makes clear that McCain is sorely lacking good judgment. There are a modicum of Democrats that claim Obama made the wrong decision in not selecting Hillary as his VP, but to me that just further increases his stock. Instead of making a decision based on political expediency, he judged that he and Hillary would never have a working relationship with her as number two. As I said you can bash McSame for his VP pick with good effect. Bashing Palin is really what Steve Schmidt wants you to do, keeps the heat off McCain and allows him to scream about how Democrats are disrespecting Motherhood, God, and Apple Pie. Palin will self-destruct every time she gets in front of the camera's and has to respond to something that can't be answered in a Schmidt spun sound bite that she's been required to memorize. God, I bet they are panicking about the Palin-Biden debate at campaign headquarters.

Considering the responses from the wingnuts here, they know the score. There is simply no rational defense to McCain's VP choice, it was pure political expediency to bring the religious wingnut faction onboard. Listen to them, they are where they belong, in the outer darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. That's where they will be after Nov. 4th. for sure.

All the things you mention can be applied to Obama at least as much as Sarah. Also don't think that the Bush tax cuts cost the country income when in truth it added income to the treasury. McCain and Palin are right when they say the problem is spending. The Congress would be in Jail if they ran a business like they run the country. If you applied the same standards to Biden and his gaffs as you apply to Palin, you might have some creability, but as usual you have none.

    • Posted By: champgrow @ 09/27/2008 8:29:22 PM

Obama is nothing like Palin. He has the guts to speek with (not just to) the American people. He is intelligent and articulate, and he shows a clear understanding of domestic and global issues. This reminds me of the Gore and Bush debate when Bush accused Gore of using "fuzzy math." To him, ANY math was "fuzzy" and he banked on the fact that the majority of Americans shared his mentality. They sympathized with Bush and fell for his Rovian ploy. When will we wise up and choose the head of the class instead of the flunky.

  • Posted By: cfrei0227 @ 09/27/2008 8:27:54 PM

Oh my goodness, are you people mental? I suppose it is just too much to admit that your parties "maverick" VP candidate is so unqualified, so out of her league that it is laughable. How long can the world possibly watch her, cringing and actually feeling bad for her as she gets more and more over her head? she simply barfs up a conglomeration of all of the talking points her advisors are desperately hoping will substitute for lack of experience. It is embarrassing.
What is equally embarrassing is your acceptance of her jibberish and clear confusion as completely valid, a futile and desperate effort to try to make her out to be something she is not.
If this woman gets anywhere near the white house, we are all screwed.
