What kind of insecure, idiot has their screen name "MBAfromharvard"?!?!?!? Are you SERIOUS? Really? You can name yourself WHATEVER you want and you name yourself "MBAfromHarvard?" I'm still totally in the dark about what school you went to and what degree you have. Can you offer us ANY clues? You have GOT to be a man with a really, really small penis. Brian Wallace

Someone who could be running our country (and isn't that part of the Vice President's job--to be ready to take over) should be able to handle both the media and the campaigning. Put her out there and let her prove to us that she can do the job--so far, all indications are that she is running for MIss America. Mrs. Palin is certainly a novelty, but I think in these troubled times we have to hope for more than that in our leaders.

As an independent I'm left stupefied after reading so many of the comments posted by Palin defenders. You folks must not have watched the same interview I did. After listening to Palin's fumbling, disjointed answers to Couric???s predictable questions it is painfully obvious to me that she is not the right person for the VP job. Her performance was embarrassing and she is not fit for the national stage. We all know how blindly allegiant Obama true believers can be, but the poor logic, childish counter-attacks, and shabby rationalizations spewed forth here by some Republicans takes the partisan cake. Mr. Zakaria is right on target about Palin and any rational person without an enormous political chip on their shoulder will agree with the points he makes here.

Sarah Palin is a real train wreck! I almost felt sorry for her til she made that snide remark about rich college kids getting passports and touring the world on their parents dime!! Whenever she goes off her crazy ,mixed up talking points she fires off some hateful remark! She reminds me of all the popular mean ,empty ,headed girls I went to high school with. They were just like her only interested in getting to the top of the heap by any means possible!!! Sarah Palin is totally wrong for any type of political office!!

It's time for Republicans to stop the nonsense, and start saying publicly what they are saying privately. Namely, that Sarah Palin is a disaster as McCain's VP pick. Republicans need to stop carrying her water. The Couric interview confirms what everyone knows: Palin is not only unintelligent, she is unintelligible. The true believers need to stop being selfish, and put the nation first. Stop carrying Palin's water. She is a disaster.

Would any of you liberals moonbats like to talk about ACORN and Obama's associations with them?

  • Posted By: Ditcatcher @ 09/27/2008 7:19:23 PM

Reading some of the comments makes me think that they are rejects from J Leno's on the street routine. How come they can't see that the only things BHO is really known for is the anti-american company he keeps, is long record of voting "present" to avoid commitment and his excellent speaking abilities, however, when he is finished your asking yourself "What did he say????" This is a sad election, the best of the worse is McCain and Palin has more exc eperience that all the others combined. She is more qualified that BHO for vice than he is for Pres and it tells you something that he is running against her. And Biden, what a great Pres he would make. Jay would have a field day.lin

Simply put, it's time for responsible Republicans to step up and stop carrying McCain and Palin's water. It's time for Republicans to stop playing games, and say publicly what they say privately. Namely, that Palin is an absolutely frightening choice by John McCain. She lacks the required intellect to be a VP, much less President.
Republicans, for the sake of the country stop lying. Stop carrying her water. Say it: "Palin is a disaster."

I agree, I want A student... president of the debate team....not prom queen, or "guy you wanna party with".... ya know????

let's go Obama, show us how to run this country the RIGHT WAY!

With Obama, and his tax hikes, and programs, we'll take home 38 cents on the dollar from our paychecks. I'll take a gamble on Palin. I think her track record for cutting spending is far more palatablel, then goughing every nickle and dime that I would use, to support my family, on programs that continue to enable those in the welfare system, and the invevitable drive to put more in, and make them reliant on government.

    • Posted By: Mtobias @ 09/27/2008 6:38:14 PM

      Tax hike?
Congratulations, you must make more than a quarter million per year.
In that case you can afford a couple of percent more per year.

The rest who make under $250K will see a lower taxation.

      • Posted By: mcgreen @ 09/27/2008 7:16:21 PM

Yep - those corporations that only average 10% tax rate - they want more of your money - forget spending on education, health care, our out of date power grid and water infrastructure. The republican boys want more money spent on the military and wars over seas.

Shame they don't teach much honest American history these days. Selecting two-fisted pragmatists over elite/effete intellectuals is how we got Truman and Eisenhower over the likes of Thomas Dewey and Adlai Stevenson. In fact, Harry and Ike kind of remind me of Palin and McCain. Thanks for giving us more reasons to vote for them, Fareed!

  • Posted By: simonanunhappydem @ 09/27/2008 6:48:52 PM

I congratulate Fareed for daring to state the obvious, without being afraid of labeled as a sexist. I have read everything available about Ms. Palin and it is clear to me, as it should be to everyone, that she is a a totally clueless incompetent bimbo, as Bill Maher and John Stuart so correctly stated. Fareed was the first one brave enough to state the obvious in a main stream publication. I have some doubts about Obama, but no-one who cares about this country can vote for a ticket that includes Palin.

      .

Funny how everyone IS afraid of investigating Obamas past because they WILL be labled a racist!

Barry O now has his little "Brown Shirts" running around with something they call "The Truth Squad" to slap a lawsuit or jail anyone that they say is spreading "Lies" aboutthe new little Adolf.
I thought Liberals were against this sort of crap? And you libs have the balls to call Bush hitler. Way funny!

If you watch Maher you do not have a valid point and are just another Liberal that can not think on his own.

    nowaynohownomccain,
Funny I think the very same thing in regards to how anyone does not have a mental disorder can claim to be a Liberal.

  • Posted By: newmoon @ 09/27/2008 6:42:58 PM

    Mr. Fareed Zakaria
Listen with all due respect before you list Palin who is running for VP as unqualified please look at the top of your ticket Obama who is even less qualified. A 2 year senator who has accomplished NOTHING other than supporting ACORN. Your story here lets everyone see exactly what kind of editor you are and how far

    • Posted By: lmrgreen @ 09/27/2008 6:53:23 PM

Do your homework. Obama has far more experience than Palin; he is also far better educated. Not only does he hold a law degree (top of his class) from Harvard, but his undergrad degree was in International Studies (you know, as in learning about the world and different countries out there - how they work and how that relates to the US). Here's a list of Obama's accomplishments. Once you read it, why don't you paste Palin's resume and we'll compare.
      # Obama has served 12 yrs at the federal and state level (4 yrs US Sen + 8 yrs IL Sen)

      # Obama co-sponsored 15 bills that became federal law and co-sponsored 570 bills

      # Obama sponsored 823 bills and cast over 4000 votes in the IL Senate

      # Obama would be the first President with 10+ yrs experience as a Constitutional Law Professor

      # Obama spent 3 years as the executive in charge of a budget that went from $70K to $400K while serving as a local community organizer in Chicago

      # Obama had 80 editors under him as President of the Harvard Law Review

      # Obama's runs a campaign with over 2000 employees, more than the White House staff

      # Obama got an International Relations specialty in college, later served 4 yrs on Sen Foreign Rel

      # Obama's combined time either in public service, studying foreign policy, or directly pertaining to Constitutional Law adds up to twenty-five years, as long as McCain has been in office

      # Obama???s record of experience is more diverse and in touch with America than McCain???s, as Obama understands how things work at the local, state, and federal level; McCain has zero local or state experience, with all his experience in office taking place in Washington DC

      • Posted By: mush101 @ 09/27/2008 7:14:47 PM

Thank-you. I am so sick of hearing the broken record that Obama is no more qualified than Palin. Please, it is ludicrous. There is no comparison. I don't want subpar and mediocre running the country. We tried that for 8 years and look where that has gotten us.

    • Posted By: psnlf @ 09/27/2008 6:51:17 PM

I don't think anyone who watched the debate last night still puts any credit to this "talking point". The country has been clear about our need for change! I used to respect McCain pre-2000. Since then he crawled in Bush's pocket, as evidenced by his Palin pick. Her lack of qualification is not only embarrassing but terrifying if you consider she might actually become the president. Obama's professional history, knowledge and skill set will bring us the change we need!

I wonder when we will read that Fareed says the same thing about Joe Biden. All his agffes are dismissed as " Its Joe being himself" The biggest decison taken by Obama to date has been a collossal admission of his own inadequacy: and he is running for President. Obviously Sarah Palin has to be doing something right or else she would not be having an 80% approval rating among people who know her most. Like most others in the print media Fareed and co live in the same echo chamber that famoul;y said that they did not anyone that voted for Nixon, and he still won. Nov 5 will show us what America thinks! This si an alomost evenly divided country and so almost half the country will vote for guy who loses. The editor of Newsweek, Mr. Meecham has in the past said that the favorable media coverage of liberal candidates is worth anywhere from 5 to 10 points. Lets see how it pans out.. In contrast to Gov Palin, all Sen. Biden has run is his mouth and frequently he is wrong!!!

Research a little bit about Alaska - did you know that they don't pay any state taxes, the state gives every man, woman and child a check from their windfall profits on oil produced in Alaska? Windfall taxes on oil, like the kind Obama proposed to cover the programs he wants.

Did you know Palin hired lobbyists to further earmarks for Alaska - that the federal government spends more of our tax dollars on Alaskans then any other state? We are paying more in taxes and gas so Palin in her republican state can collect more boondoggle money for her citizens.

Now tell me proudly about her support... I still doubt it, there have been protests by women in Alaska that she doesn't represent them - they're mad and aren't going to take it anymore. She's faced a recall attempt and may yet face another.

McCain really played the republican party for fools... she is his parting shot of attitude. He could care less about country - it's all about his ego.

Oh please, get off your high horse arthritic doc, she's an airhead and you know it!
The bailout is to free up credit, ever tried to but a car lately?
Why doesn't she know that, because, she hasn't an ounce of common sense, only a whole 'lotta amition, pronounced, nukleer. Biden can sound like a dope sometimes, so what, he gets foreign policy and you know it!

      • Posted By: psnlf @ 09/27/2008 7:05:50 PM

Actually Palin's approval ratings are plummetting as people are really getting to know her. Here is the free fall in her home state of Alaska where she once enjoyed that 80% but no longer as people are seeing who she really is. The next link reviews her approval free-for-all in the US overall. These have not yet factored in the uniformly panned Katie Couric interview, so.... it's only going down from here. http://alaskareport.com/news98/x61643_approval_rating.htm

Yes, Biden sometimes talks faster than he thinks and is wrong. I am a democrat and he was not my preferred VP choice. But Ms. Palin is always wrong when the answer needs some thinking and is simply clueless. It is beyond me how she can be on a major party ticket. It shows how totally and fatally screwed up our political two party system became. We badly need a third party of middle of the road rational thinkers.

I don't understand why the conservatives are blindly supporting mccain and palin. Anyone with a brain and common sense can clearly see that palin is not fit to be vice-president much less president. We as American citizens cannot overlook the fact that mccain is in his 70's with a history of health conditions including skin caner and that he may die anytime soon. And the thought of palin becoming the president is scary indeed. We have to clearly analyze this situation and understand that voting for mccain with a high possibility of palin taking over will be detrimental to America and the world. As seen in her interviews, it is evident she is a total airhead and embarrassment and even dumber than George W. Bush. Is she the best vp candidate for the party? oh please! Someone who got a BA degree in journalism and went to several schools to get it is qualified to be president?? I think not! We deserve the BEST of the BEST and not a hockey mom who does not have a clue about America and the rest of the world and still pretends to have expertise in foreign policy with a lying smile. George W. Bush has put America in trillions of dollars in debt, with 2 wars abroad, brought up the unemployment rate to 6.1%, and recently wanted the bailout package of $700 billion passed. Hasn't the Republican Party done enough for America? To all the republicans and conservatives, grow a brain cuz it's obvious you haven't got one!

Those smitten with Sarah Palin should ask themselves one question; "If anything were to happen to John McCain before the election, would Sarah Palin be my choice for President of the United States?" Faced with any question not stored into her read-only memory, she looks and acts like a deer caught in the headlights and begins rambling incoherently. Something like Bush Jr, but much MUCH worse.
