I agree that we need to be a player in global trade, but to our benefit, not detriment. What about the trade deficit, the fact that other countries own our buildings, industires, and God knows what else.....What about American jobs?

I don't think it's just about what Obama can do for that generation.....Just because they're there, doesn't mean they're owed anything but oppurtunity......

What would McCain "do for them?"

I think we're all needed to address the complexity of our problems, but I agree that we "the older generation" should not be irresponsible with our materialism.....let's stop importing all that crap that Walmart sells.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE TO BE HELD SUNDAY AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY

The Free and Equal Elections Coalition (FREE) and the Columbia Political Union are pleased to announce that a Presidential debate will be held this coming Sunday, October 19th, 2008, on the campus of Columbia University.

ALL SIX of the Presidential candidates who appear on enough state ballots to acquire the 270 Electoral Votes needed to become President are invited. They are as follows (listed in alphabetical order by affiliation):

    Constitution Party Candidate: Chuck Baldwin
    Democratic Party Candidate: Barack Obama
    Green Party Candidate: Cynthia McKinney
    Independent Candidate: Ralph Nader
    Libertarian Party Candidate: Bob Barr
    Republican Party Can John McCain

The Columbia Political Union will present the debate from 8:00pm to 10:00pm in the Altschul Auditorium, located at 417 International Affairs Building. The debate will be moderated by Pacifica Radio's Amy Goodman, the host of "Democracy Now!". CSPAN will cover the debate, and live radio broadcasts are expected.

"The Columbia Political Union is committed to energizing political discourse on Columbia's campus," said Allon Brann, Columbia Political Union Publisher. "As a non-partisan organization, we work to provide students with opportunities to encounter and engage with political ideas across a wide ideological spectrum, and on a wide range of issues."

"It is with these goals in mind that we have organized this Presidential Debate: to give all candidates-- either within or outside of the political "mainstream"-- the opportunity to speak directly to students about their goals on the issues they deem critical for this country."

"We have invited all eligible candidates, and it is our sincere hope that all will participate, to ensure the substance and rigor of the dialogue which we believe is crucial at this time."

Certified letters officially inviting each candidate have been sent to the respective campaigns.

The Free and Equal Elections Coalition and the Columbia Political Union await the response from the candidates. All candidates' supporters are encouraged to contact the Presidential campaigns and urge them to attend.

The Columbia Political Union seeks to enhance involvement in the political process, domestic and international, and draw every member of the campus community into an ongoing discussion of political ideas.

FREE is a coalition of political parties, independent citizens and civic organizations formed to promote free and equal elections in the United States.

John McCain is a good man, who got carried away by ambition, bad people and bad decisions. I think his conscience is bothering him now, and makes him more appealing, and more the man I know him to be.

Sarah Palin may be smart, but she's not who you think she is. Sarah Palin is a traitor to America and to her party.

"Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

Let's hope that McCain will take off the gloves and not be such a NICE GUY!!!!! We've seen EVERY reason in the world why WE SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR OSAMA!!!!! TO point out the process of how Osama got where he is.....he has associated with EVERY BLACK "who's who" in the USA..regardless of the good or bad baggage...that's how he ended up at Trinity..with the BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY....and pretend his too dumb to understand what "GOD DAMN AMERICA" really means......the presentation of awards to the much hated and militant Farrakhan...throw in a few militant white militants (Ayers) and some Hollywood trash and you have somebody worthy of the WHITE HOUE......back in the days, this guy would have been lynched or at least DEPORTED....what Rev.Wright did was called Heracy....Wow, I miss those days when wrong was clearly labeled 'MAY CAUSE PERMANENT DAMNAGE".......McCain represents honor, call to duty, love of country, accountability, and DEDICATION!!!!! Just say NO TO O

I love when particularly smelly members of the rabid, racist, and uneducated Republican base comment on stories. You do Sen. Obama many favors every time you open your mouth or type a comment. Thank you!

If you're going to make an argument against Senator Obama then use his actual name. This way you can state what you'd like to see in a candidate and which candidate possesses these qualities or has policies that you believe will benefit Americans. Being disrespectful and offensive is not helping your case, because most won't listen to what you have to say.

    The Antichrist!:
When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn???t stop himself. He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the ???bubble of American supremacy,??? because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global ???equilibrium.??? So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms ???regime changes,??? is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment. But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it. Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an ???economic war criminal??? who ???sucks the blood from the people.??? Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a ???third way??? toward economic stability.

Wake up, America, before it is too late!!!!

Good thing this silly generation hasn't asked Obama for a lot - he doesn't have much to give past vague generalities. This generation is too young to understand how dangerous that is. Obama is a fraud, and will never get my vote.

1.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

2.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, his cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya . The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone.

Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started.

3.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

4.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, his name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya , his father's family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro).

5.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office.

    • Posted By: merrylea @ 10/02/2008 10:20:38 AM

You are so ignorant. Check your facts on factcheck.org or snopes. Don't believe anything you read in a mass e-mail. The fact is that the man is Christian. Even if he was Muslim, it shouldn't make one lick of difference. Muslim does not = terrorist.

      • Posted By: Pallisor @ 10/04/2008 5:48:41 PM

Have you not wondered why the peaceful Muslim's of the world won't police their own? That's a question many people have. And Obama's Christian faith? It doesn't bother you that he sat in a racist church with the race baiting, maniacal Reverend Wright, who thinks our Government created aids for black genocide? I wouldn't sit in a church that spewed that garbage for 5 minutes let alone twenty years, would you?

        Why would Obama?

    • Posted By: VoiceFromWhoville @ 10/01/2008 10:50:38 PM

The details of Barack Obama's father's family are not relevant. His father divorced his mother and left Hawaii when Barack was two years old. He didn't know that side of the family. Barack spent most of his time living in Hawaii with either his mother, or from the age of ten, with his maternal (Caucasian) grandparents. He was not raised as a Muslim, but was taught to respect all religions and cultures. As an adult, he found his identity as a Christian after working with church groups as a community organizer.

What difference does it make what his ancestral lineage is? Every person on this planet started out as an African at some point in history. You can trace your own ancestry through National Geographic's Genographic Project https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/

In that case why does Obama plaster the pictures of himself with his African family all over the Internet. In the first debate with John McCain, Obama referenced his Kenyan born father. Obama seems to keep linking himself to his African roots as a constant reminder to everyone. Obama's natural father was a muslim and his stepfather was a muslim...Obama was influenced by that religion in his early childhood.

Several years ago while traveling to Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Southeast Asia (Singapore and Malaysia) I asked about going to nearby Indonesia (where Obama lived a few years with his mother and Muslim stepfather during his childhood), and I was told there was nothing interesting to see in Indonesia. The tourist office said it was mostly rubbertree farms in Indonesia. Singapore had a British influence which made it seem very well organized and clean. Malaysia had a lot of Muslim Arabs living there.

      • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 10/02/2008 1:18:39 AM

You crack me up; you are so in awe of Obama (evidently your Messiah) that you happily gloss over the fact that he was born a Muslim and spent the early part of his childhood learning the Muslim faith. You don't exactly get the name "Barak Hussien Obama" at a synagoge or at baptism. And when you say "he was taught to respect all religions" my response is - how in the hell do you know that? You weren't there!

I ask again; how can you be in such slack-jawed awe of someone who has accomplished so little?

The link below contains a purported list of the top 25 in Congress who got contributions from the folks at Fannie and Freddie. Obama is listed third, after Dodd and Kerry, even though Obama is just a junior Senator. Obama is followed next by Clinton. Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi are on the list as well.

Interesting article ... but I've actually been paying attention to the ways in which the Obama/Biden ticket have been addressing these issues and creating substantive plans for dealing with them, and I like what I've read and heard. Obama has laid out specific measures he will take to provide working solutions for the global warming crisis, jump-start the economy & create millions of jobs, and -- as you mention -- fix our floundering Social SEcurity program. The splan you mention in your article is the same that is outlined in detail on hiw website. Are you suggesting that because he hasn't spoken as much about it in recent days that he is no longer of the same stance? I am far from a "mindless follower" of Barack -- in fact, I was an avid supporter of Hillary Clinton before Obama beat her out in the primary. However, not only do I believe he is a better choice for our country -- and our gneration's future -- than McCain/Palin, but I actually agree with the vast majority of his platforms. While I , myself, am frustrated with the seemingly mindless following of some Obama supporters, it is unfair to make such a blanket generalization about our entire generation. Give us some credit. Another reason we are special is because we can get the facts and make a sound, mindful decision on our own.
