    quote= Her goal should be to not make news. And that means when Biden attacks, or the moderator's questions are detailed, she should not respond at length. Instead, she should focus on her personality. She should want that lead to be: Palin came across as a likable, caring person who believes what she says."

    REALLY??? Come on.. I didnt know we voted for the President and VP based on personality (caring and likeable). If that is the case, I got a few of my dogs here that could easily be VP because they are soo likeable and loving, and they dont need lipstick!

    "Instead, she should focus on her personality."

    Are you kidding me?!?! We are NOT electing her to be Miss Congeniality. It must be about more than just a pretty face and nice personality. I hope to God we are not that superficial!

    Sarah will do fine, she knows all about debates, she saw one just last week.

    Are you kidding?1?! We are deciding whether or not to elect her Miss Congeniality at a beauty pageant!

    It's almost a shame to have to say this, but I am so sure that Joe Biden will cream Sarah Palin so badly that I almost feel sorry for her. Thsi woman is totally inept. She never have even been considered by McCain. Gov Palin, Go back to Alaska

    • Posted By: Husker84 @ 09/29/2008 11:56:52 AM

      I think it would be a mistake to assume that Palin will fall on her face. Even Georgw W. was coachable enough to have a decent performance in the debate. She will spew all the usual GOPer talking points and won't be pressed much by the moderators. Nobody wants to look like they are picking on her. unfortunately, mediocre is all Americans require these days...

      • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 09/29/2008 1:47:26 PM

        You make an excellent point but even Bush did his homework (and I can't believe I'm using him as a positive example!). Bush never won a debate, either against Gore or Kerry but he could cite figures and keep his talking points straight. Palin has had moments like the Couric interview several times on the campaign trail already, even on a question referring to her supposed expertise; "Energy".

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvUsdmqGYV8

        Then again, I agree with you that expecting Biden to mop the floor with her works against him because then people will expect too much from him. I'm also concerned at his tendency to put his foot in his mouth! I'm not about to tell Biden, who has been in congress almost as much as I've been alive, how to debate her but I wish he would get a sense of where she is and if the opportunity comes, open up the artillery.

        My point is, this is no cake-walk, a fight never is. Here's crossing my fingers : )

    All Joe has to do is talk policy. Address George Bush's failed presidency and talk policy. As long as he looks Ms. Palin in the eye and says "that hasn't worked, that failed, that's been tried and didn't work...." Attach John McCain to the torpedoed Bush Admin....Palin has no policy manipulation. She can be smarmy and play to her base, but thats not what middle America is looking for. She is ill equipped to give middle America what they are looking for....a way up and out of these last eight years.

  • Posted By: dwfeltgen @ 09/29/2008 1:34:29 PM

    Here is the problem: We need substance, We need someone who can take over the Presidency if the need arises. Stevens advice that Palin "should focus on her personality. She should want that lead to be: Palin came across as a likable, caring person who believes what she says" does not convince me she is a leader. The McCain camp has done everything it can to hide her. We need to know what she is all about, and that means substance, not whether she is likable.

    i am waiting for the day when we all wake up, indpendents, democrats, republicans, WHATEVER...when are we going to stand up, and i mean STAND THE F**K UP AND FIGHT BACK! more than voting, we need some kind of physical viewable action to let these politicians remember that they work for america, we dont owe them any favors by the looks of things... im waiting for a Martial law police state to happen, which will be the end result of...reformation or bust's post below...

    "The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    From Bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to complacency;
    From complacency to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage."

    the meat(america) is prime right now for such a happening...we are doing ourselves no good but just "being informed voters", and posting on message boards...that doesnt stop crooked politicians and legislators from making money off our hard work, that doesnt stop illegal wars, that doesnt stop poor decisions made by the few affecting the masses...why dont more people feel sick when they think about how much money bush (and any president and politician for that matter) is earning off of the american public while the people that are giving him his income suffer? i work hard for what i have and it aint a whole lot...

    dont get me wrong, im not an anarchist, or commie, or anything. government is necessary, but reformation needs to happen. we are working on an old an outdated system. we wouldnt ever allow our computers or cars to become outdated...why do we allow our government to do so on a daily basis?

    ill say one thing, if they ever plan a police state/martial law/or dictatorship, they made a big a** mistake by letting millions of pride driven americans to own guns...everything from small arms to automatic assault rifles...

    to invade (foreign or internally) america is to be met with a gun behind every blade of grass

    Palin should do the Republican party a big favor and say something to the effect that, "Hey, I just remembered I have to take Bristol to a parenting class! Sorry, gotta go." and withdraw from the campaign. She is not qualified. However I for one can't wait to hear the debate and all the dumb and hilarious stuff I's betting she'll say. I'm beginning to think that McCain is throwing the election!

    The war in Iraq was necessary, I feared most after 9/11 that if we hadn't had gone over the next attacks would have been on our home soil. Biden is a pretty boy, and should not just pat Palin on the head, after all she has managed a tow, as mayor and a state as governor, but most of all as a wife and mother. And who should know better how to manage a situtation than a mother!

    • Posted By: Husker84 @ 09/29/2008 12:04:33 PM

      Moma K,

      By linking Iraq to 9-11 you only show how silly it is forn one to restrict their viewing solely to FOX. Please do your homework before posting. Thanks.

    • Posted By: tinkeraw @ 09/28/2008 1:01:57 PM

      Please please do some hard thinking before you vote. Palin is NOT running for Mother of the Year. She is running for Vice President of the US with the possibility of becoming President of the US.

  • Posted By: Husker84 @ 09/29/2008 11:49:24 AM

    Sarah Palin should continue with the talking points, be cute and folksy. She's done quite well without substance and quite poorly when she tries to bring substance to the table. She needs to stay on script, waive the flag, and hammer at the Dems as socialists, tax-and-spend, un-American elitists. She should continue with the GOPer code to bring attention to the fact that Obama is "different" from the "majority." (celebrity, unpatriotic, would rather loose the war, etc.) Unfortunately for her, she is far too much like George W. Bush, in "lipstick," to try and campaign as something different.

  • Posted By: sassy08 @ 09/29/2008 11:11:10 AM

    It really will be a comedy hour! Joe Biden will mop the floor with Palin, whom as we have all seen on those now imfamous interviews, has NO IDEA what the reporters were asking of her! Those interviews were a test to what she will get at the debate. Candidates shouldn't worry about how hard they come at an opponent, after all, when in office, it will be even tougher! Can't take the heat, Palin/McCain, (which goes to show you, who she secretly thinks is going to run the show, if elected) oops, lol, McCain/Palin, stay out of the kitchen! After laughing all night, I too will vote for Obama!

  • Posted By: fccFH @ 09/29/2008 10:54:12 AM

    I totally disagree with Stevens strategy- not that I want to help out the Palin camp at all- I am waiting in earnest for Palin to fall directly on her face come Thursday- America has already heard her sob story, they connect with her- we get it, she is a hockey mom. But that does not mean she understands how to fix these issues. If most people are like Palin they should be asking themselves, yes we are all facing this crisis, but do I know how to fix it? What would be the first thing I should do? And if you cannot answer that question, you should not be voting for yourself, and you especially should not be voting for Palin. What Stevens should have said, is that Palin empathizes with Americans, but here is her and McCain???s plan- unfortunately there is not much in the McCain economic policy and strategy arsenal, so it looks like all she may have to go off of is, Im a hockey mom too- vote for me.

    McCain graduated from the Naval Academy 5th from the bottom of his class. Obama graduated magna *** laude from Harvard University. He was also President of the Law Review when he was a mere sophomore! Something tells me there's a valid difference of intelligence here. McCain served honorably in the military; Obama served honorably in his community. Both men have had "moral failures" in their lives - Obama's marijuana and alcohol and McCain's abandonmeent of his first wife and his unfortunate habit of interrupting and cursing at reporters - cursing in general.

    • Posted By: sue_in_Jersey @ 09/28/2008 8:48:51 AM

      Kaelinda, I would like to note, however, that Obama's "moral failure" (marijuana) not only pales in comparison with McCain's, but that Obama was very young when he used pot and has since reformed. There's been no sign that McCain has evolved at all -- if anything, he seems more sexist and bombastic and reckless since his earlier years in the Senate.

    The Most Complete Political Incorrect Political Analysis Of Sarah Palin.

    By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet Of Environment.

    Since Palin is from the West, those battle ground states such as Alaska, Oregon, Hawaii and Washington State can be won more easily by Republicans. There is also potentials for a California victory which will definitely be decisive on the whole election. Obama was born in Hawaii, Obama's defeat there will be his greatest humiliation. Alaska is one of the biggest oil producing state. When oil drilling is the number one issue in this election, being a govenor of Alaska will certainly help. Alaska is also the last remaining wilderness of the U. S. A. It will be a good opportunity for the Republican to show their concerns of the Environment by using her. Palin is a woman therefore will attract women voters. As a former beauty queen, she is young and very pretty with great sex appeal to straight men and lesbian women also. Her pregnant teenage daughter will draw sympathy from those who were teenage unwed mothers and pro-life anti-abortion voters. Single mothers will also be attracted to the Republican Party. She represents traditional White families of Puritan values as opposed to those predominately single parent unwed mother type Black families. Neither McCain nor Palin are political correct. They only speak the truth and are very "genuine, what you see is what you get!" as quoted from the Alaskan Republican Convention delegates. She represents White people who have been displaced from the lower 48 states due to crimes and harassment from Blacks there. Those White people have little or no choice but to seek Northern Exposure living in Alaska for peace and quiet. They will certainly revenge Black intimidation and harassment. McCain's situations is quite similar. After the Civil War, the U. S. was destabilized by its Black minority. The only way to unite this country was to destabilize other nations and the world. To achieve that goal, the U. S. had to invade other countries such as Vietnam. McCain was a pawn and victim of such U. S. aggression. He certainly will blame African American for that. Palin was the military commander of the Alaskan Air National Guard which are useful experience for a future Commander-in-Chief of this country because Alaska is bordering Russia and near China and Japan with one fourth of all U. S. nuclear missiles located in that state. McCain who was also a professional soldier himself will feel comfortable working with Palin. Among both Republican and Democratic Party tickets Palin is the only one with executive and administrative experience . All other candidates McCain, Obama and Biden have only legislative experience.

      You are getting your notes so jumbled together you might as well be Sara Palin.

      A) The Civil War ended in 1864. American troops were sent into Vietnam a full century AFTER that. In the interim there was the Spanish-American war, two World Wars and the Korean war, as well as several interventions in countries ranging from the Philippines to the Dominican Republic.

      So Wow, your historical knowledge has more holes than a hunk of Swiss cheese.

      B) Are mendacity, cynicism and misrepresentation of truth "Puritan American values"? Because that's what McCain/Palin have been engaging in in this campaign, and have been called out by fact checkers in the media (even by Fox News!) especially in the last few weeks. Doesn't sound very Puritan to me.

      C) International air space is a federal issue, not a state issue. So Palin's claim to be watching the Russians for us is risible.

      D) China and Japan are nowhere near Alaska.

      E) Most of the American nuclear arsenal is located in the Midwest.

      F) For all the "executive experience" Palin claims to have, she knows less about current issues than most well-informed citizens. In other words, what good is 16 months of executive experience when you don't have an earthly idea about what the Bush Doctrine is (the failed foreign policy she wants to take over) is going on with the economy.

    What I see happening; and yes this is a parody. This is meant to be a JOKE, so please save your overly sensitive BS for someone being serious.

    Moderator: Govern. Palin how do you see America's standing in the world?
    Sarah Palin: Well when Russia attacks us from space wars you'll see that I was right!
    Mod: Govern. Palin how do you feel your gender affects this campaign?
    SP: As a woman i enjoy killing large mammals!
    Mod: Govern. Palin what do you feel makes you qualified to hold the second highest office in the Country?
    SP: You see because God is the highest authority in the country I'd be more like a Lt. General or Grand Marshall in heaven's big army!
    Mod: *Stares blankly*
    SP: God bless America! Support our troops! Say no to be government! Drill 'til the earth bleeds! Moose is Good!

      That's exactly why I am going to watching the debate. I really could use some humor. It is going to be the best comedy in town!!! When I am done laughing, I will cast my vote for Obama.

  • Posted By: ike2000 @ 09/29/2008 10:38:23 AM

    I hope we'll have a CPR emergency unit close to the debate podium. If Palin can last 3 minutes, she will win the debate. My concern is she will hyperventilate and fall into a cardiac situation. Her big-eyeballs in these debates, indicate clearly, hypertension. This is no joke!

    Democracy

    At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler (a Scottish history professor at The University of Edinborough) had this to say about "The Fall of The Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior:

    "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

    "The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    From Bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to complacency;
    From complacency to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage."

    It seems to me that the bush white house played in the hands of the terrorists. The terrorists attacked the wold trade center. The center of the US economy. The US government got involved with a war that the enemey is vage. An enemy who is like a ghost. Guess what? Our economy got hit hard.... And that what seems to me what the terrorists wanted.
