OBAMA's RISE IS IN POLLS IS MOSTLY DUE TO PALIN'S LOWS

GOP Conservative Commentator and Journalist George Wills called this one correctly while GOP Evangelist got it wrong. Wills and other GOP conservatives warned John McCain and the Republican Party that Palin may appear to be the Evangelical's "Great Religious-Right Hope"; but it is blatantly obvious that Palin has NOT been properly vetted and she is brutally short on the minimum substance needed to hold an office "one heartbeat away from Commander-in-Chief" of the most powerful country in the world. The public is now seeing, grimacing, and barfing at the thought of Palin being that close to so much power. Independents and some moderate Republicans are 'quietly' making the switch to the Obama-Biden team. This is partially the reason McCain-Palin numbers are down 4-points while the Obama-Biden numbers are up 4-points.

In his recklessness attempt to "immediately squash" the poll numbers received by the Obama-Biden team after DNC's Invesco Mile Hiigh stadium event, McCain decided to cheat & gamble by selecting Sarah Palin as his VP. In so doing, McCain has also: (1.) humiliated Palin; (2.) frustrated common sense Republicans; (3.) embarrassed GOP supporters, but; (4.) most importantly put the nation severely at risk should Palin be required to take the helm if McCain wins but never makes it to January 20, 2009.

McCAIN IS DANGEROUSLY RECKLESS AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH THE NATION's INTEREST IN HIS HANDS.

In 2005, for the first time in history, a serious Fannie and Freddie reform bill, S. 190, was passed by the Senate Banking Committee. The bill gave a regulator power to crack down, and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets. If that bill had become law, then the world today would be different. But the bill didn't become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn't even get the Senate to vote on the matter.

      http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aSKSoiNbnQY0

In support of S 190, also known as the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, John McCain said: "For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay."

      http://www.govtrack.us/congress/record.xpd?id=109-s20060525-16

Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 would have Amended the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and Soundness Act of 1992 to establish: (1) in lieu of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), an independent Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Agency which shall have authority over the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Banks, the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac); and (2) the Federal Housing Enterprise Board.
Most importantly with regard to the CDS situation, S. 190 set forth operating, administrative, and regulatory provisions respecting: (1) assessment authority; (2) authority to limit nonmission-related assets; (3) minimum and critical capital levels; (4) risk-based capital test; (5) capital classifications and undercapitalized enterprises; (6) enforcement actions and penalties; (7) golden parachutes; and (8) reporting. Adoption of these regulatory provisions would have undoubtably affected the way CDSs were dealt with in "private" enterprises.
The bill would have also amended the Federal Home Loan Bank Act to establish the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation., and transfered the functions of the Office of Finance of the Federal Home Loan Banks to such Corporation. If this had been in place three years ago, this whole situation might have been averted.

Biden will have the good sense to let Palin hang herself...if she even shows up. Really, I think Americans don't want to see the woman humiliated. McCain is a misogynistic jerk for using Palin as a human shield, and all the women in the U.S. should be FURIOUS that John McCain put her in this position.

I want to record Oct. 4th's VP debate for future entertainment purpose. It's going to be so GOOOOD that I want to watch it over and over again. I hope Biden will have the good sense of letting her hang herself. He doesn't want to be called "sexism", does he? Any attack (even it's based on facts) on Palin is an insult to small town value and will infuriate people across America. I think Biden has a tougher job to do than Palin. All she has to do is play victim and then no matter what you say will be criticised. Watch out! Joseph, DO NOT fall into that trap!

This is a remarkable state of affairs in which we find ourselves. John McCain, once a proud but wounded symbol of the American spirit, an embodiment of the rare straight talk absent from political discourse, a genuine bipartisan agent of transparency and compromise, has betrayed his personal principles to shore up the support of a constituency which he disdains. That perhaps would be understandable if he had chosen a superior and qualified counterpart, however extreme his or her positions. But the selection of Sarah Palin is unfolding into one of the most horrifying denouements of political theatre ever to have disgraced this great nation. Discounting the experience factor, there is simply no excusing the complete lack of mental acuity demonstrated by this candidate. Governor Palin cannot overcome this basic intellectual failing---on all levels. And by putting the entire nation at such potentially great risk by his selection, Senator McCain has committed an unpardonable breach of trust against us all.

Biden should look at Palin and laugh. All serious minded people who still believe in the political process find her to be a joke. And the joke's on McDaddy!
Yes, I'm for Obama and I'm a white older woman, so make of that what you will.

Biden should focus on the fundamental differences between the parties of McCain and Obama. He should focus on the economy and illustrate how the current financial disaster is a direct consequence of "trickle down" economics. Corporate tax breaks and the "hands off" de-regulation policies, which the republican party and McCain specifically tout as the backbone of their economic strategy, have not resulted in job creation and econimic growth but have, in fact, trickled down (or should I say gushed down ?) a big fat bailout bill to the american tax payer.

"She should want that lead to be: Palin came across as a likable, caring person who believes what she says."

Problem is.... She is the only one that can understand what she is believing based on what she says....

Ok article, however IF Palin comes across as the article suggests it will confirm my belief that she could not hold this office and especially true regarding the Office of the President. I don't want a VP or President that just knows how I'm struggling, I want one who especially knows how to get me out of this mess, and handle ALL of the super important repair jobs left to us by the repug party which she is part of.....NO SALE......O8/12

If nothing else this debate will be entertaining, I would like to see Palin try to defend her self described conservative economic policies, after she ran a debt free community of then 5000 into a 22million debt largely because she built a hockey rink so she could be a hockey mom.

    • Posted By: joe_mama @ 09/28/2008 11:20:38 AM

$22 million for a hockey rink?????

      that's about right

mccainsupporter tries very hard to paint an alternate picture of McCain's dismal performance in Annapolis by arguing that it was McCain's "honor" causing him to sink into the bottom tier. First, that would take a HELL of a lot of demerits, and secondly, there has been so little evidence of this vaunted McCain "honor" during this election as to make such a theory absolutely laughable. McCain has been lying, cheating, disgraceful.

    Economic Situation In the U. S. A.

By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet Of Environment.

The Wall Street is currently continuing its drastic collapse and there is no light can be seen at this tunnel to Hell. Much of the U. S. economic problems are related to their current election. The following are my perspective to the the current economic situation in the United States:

    (1) The current stock market collapse may be artificial which was cause by Blacks who want to create sight of economic downturn o force Americans to elect Barack Obama for a solution of their problems. Small investment groups of minorities could short sale in the stock market to bring about drastic Wall Street collapse.

    (2) The U. S. housing could be caused by Black who might have relocated to other states and live with relatives and friends to generate favorable electoral environment and vote counts according to percentages of state population. This is to help Obama in their election. So there is a possibility that the housing crisis could be resolved after the election.

    (3) The housing crisis was cause by the White people also for favorable election outcomes in a particular state. This is similar to situation number (2). In general, the American political system is now proven to be a great failure which has and will continue to affect the well being of Worldwide economy for long term. Whenever there is a election, one side always need to create economic downturn to blame on the incumbent government. Also, a change of governing party will create instability and insecurity to invite terrorist attacks such as the September 11, 2001 disaster. The U. S. should adopted new form of political system and learn from the Chinese before it is too late. Communism Chinese style is the best political system.

    (4) On the other hand, the American economic crisis could be real and there will be no solutions in sight and the Great Depression II is imminent. So Environment help us!

Kwansi Mifune denied today that Biden will be asked to step aside if he does not perform well in the debate. "Barack is proud of his choice of Mr. Biden. Barack looks forward to having Mr. Biden as his VP. However, should Mr. Biden develop a serious medical disorder such as migraine headaches or carpal tunnel syndrome, or seasonal allergies....you know allergies can be very disabing....or if he develops something even more serious like erectile dysfunction.....well......then Barack will put the interest of the American people first. "

Now what Biden needs to somehow highlight tthe UNCERTAINTY associated with Palin. She hasn't been vetted. No need to vet her. Unvetted means uncertainty. The obvious thing on everyones mind is what will happen if Palin is President. That is scary... and it brings up an uncertainty which is voters do not like.

Biden has to use McCains line that "I do not believe Gov. Palin is ready to be commander and chief." He needs to say that. Its an especially good line because McCain used it against Obama. People will know where that line came from. At least in the back of their minds, people will contrast Obama and Palin. On the one hand, it may bring up the inexperience of Obama. But that is all right because the benefits are greater. First, almost everyone (except some die hard Republicans), as far as competence, understand that Obama is on a much higher level than Palin. Second, it reminds Republicans (who wouldnt vote for Obama anyway) that their own VP choice is utterly inexperienced. Third, it highlights the risk associate with Palin. No one knows for sure whether Palin is competent. It doesnt matter whether she is or not. It is importantant to highlight the UNCERTAINTY.

I think that is what Biden will do in the debate. He will somehow highlight the UNCERTAINTY of a vice president Palin. He doesn't have to show she is incompetent. He also doesnt want to give her a chance to shine any competence she has. Let her try to do that on her own. All he needs to do is increase the uncertainty surrounding her. Bidn should only test her competence in areas he knows she is incomepetent. I am sure the Obama camp already knows her strength and weaknesses. Well I would hope so.

It is quite predictable what will happen during the debate.... they are going to use Palin to throw the kitchen sink. She will take the talking points from Hannity and Limbaugh. This will be attractive to the hardcore Republican base, which she has been hired to attract. It will attract some Woman votes (maybe) to come accross as the fighting woman fighting against the Old Boys Club.

There is no way she will present her depth on national and international issues. She has very little. The most job for Plain is to shore up support of her base. The most rational and efficient (easiest) way to do so is to throw the kitchen sink at Obama.

We saw it in the Primaries with Hillary v. Obama.... with some success for Hillary. She will play that Fighting Woman act. It is her only option.

I cannot imagine her playing that nice soccer mom act (which she is). It will not help McCain.

Its a high risk strategy with uncertain results. But its the best use of her. She needs to throw the kitchen sink.

Biden should quote Palin from the Couric interview "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border.." if it ever comes to discussing foreign policy

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 09/27/2008 8:50:27 PM

You know, back in the old country I used to live close to the American, German, Italian and French embassies, all within two blocks on either side of my house. By Palin's reasoning, at 10 years old I should've been a full-fledged diplomat. : )

  • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 09/27/2008 8:41:08 PM

Interestingly enough both strategists are making the same points. Yet, Stevens is probably thinking of the best advice he can give Palin, considering she is unprepared to begin with and has jumped into the limelight recently. And really, you have an intellectually incurious governor who knows less about issues than many informed citizens going against the most prepared foreign affairs political animal in DC. When Musharraf faced a crisis a year ago he personally called Biden before calling the White House for advice! Palin cannot "cute" her way through this debate as she did in Alaska, when even there she was lackluster in the debates. The nature and scope of presidential politics is so large and sophisticated there's just no comparison and I honestly don't even think Palin could say what the acronym NATO stands for! Palin will have to answer for all her snarky comments since the convention.

Having said that, anything can happen, but this is a lot like having your overweight, out-of-shape cousin fight Mike Tyson for 12 rounds. "OK, he's stronger, more skilled, experienced and aggressive than you are so you've got to run around and try to jab him." The best advice under the circumstances.

Palin is terrifyingly unqualified and the McCain camp knows it. What other antics will they pull out of their hats to keep her from debating? It''s not going to be pretty.

  • Posted By: ipaintgolf @ 09/27/2008 7:34:37 PM

Biden is not going to attack her. Thats the strategy, let them self destruct on their own. They have enough knowledge now to realize that mcain will screw himself up. His family of origin story keeps coming up in his head.
She may be bi- polar. I hear she has been to at least 5 colleges, why is that? What happened back there? yeah, lets talk personality.

  • Posted By: COdem42 @ 09/27/2008 3:58:17 PM

Is anyone else hearing the Republican strategist Stevens as suggesting the debate should be about Palin showcasing her personality? What do Republicans think of this scrupulousness? That the American people should be hoodwinked by carefully placed narratives devoid of content, substance, or substantive talk of the very tenuous issues this country is currently facing. Doesn't Steven worry about the fate of this country? Ugh. Although not surprised, I still feel sick.
