All I hear is "OBAMA IS BLACK AND US BLACK FOLKS WANT HIM ELECTED!" Seems to me that if black folks want to be counted as equal in this fine country, they ought to spend time educating themselves on issues and Obama's character rather than simply voting on his skin color. I can tell you that America is sick to death of hearing about "BLACK RIGHTS" and all the demands and screaming and yelling about race. If black people truly want to be counted as equal, then GET AN EDUCATION, keep yourself off wlefare, get a job, and stop gangs and teen pregnancy! Get a clue - you'll NEVER have equal rights until you learn to do the right thing in life and stop demanding that everything be handed to you on a platter!

Jaspermoon- African-Americans turned out in masses for the American Revolution without any promises of a future. We turned out masses for the Civil War without any promises of a future. This was our country before your family came to Ellis Island. Allison Samuels the author of this artcle has a whole series of this type of drible for Newsweek. Allison as a journalist you should do some real background on black people before you touch the keyboard again to give yourself some credibility.

This article underscores precisely why Obama's candidacy would be problematical even if he were qualified to hold the Office.Geraldine Ferraro was exactly right, a white candidate with his meager accomplishments would not have been seriously considered in the first place and his media shills are now preparing the ground so that if he loses, it will be because of the racist public. It is obvious now that until the black community matures, the nomination of black candidates will be an extremely problematical proposition

IN MY OPINION: I SAY IT THIS WAY IN ORDER TO QUALIFY MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND OF THE PRESS. IF SENATOR OBAMA BEAT SENATOR CLINTON, A SUPER LADY, A MILLION TIMES BETTER AND MORE QUALIFIED THAN THAT LADY FROM THE SMALLEST STATE IN THE UNION (POP), THEN HE WILL BEAT McCAIN HANDS DOWN. WHY? I BELIEVE THAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE TAKEN FROM THE POOR TO GIVE TO THE RICH UNDER THE EXTREMELY DISLIKED BUSH ADMINISTRATION. AND I BELIEVE THAT THE RIP OFF WENT AS FAR AS INCLUDING THEIR OWN PARTY MEMBERS: A WHOLE LOT FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS! THIS IS WHAT I CALL GREED WHICH LEADS TO SELF-DEFEAT. THEY LOST INSIGHT INTO THE DAMAGE AND TO WHOM THEY WERE CAUSEING IT. IN MY OPINION, SENATOR McCAIN WAS IN THERE WITH THEM: HE DOES NOT WANT TO TAX THEM! WHY? THEY ARE HIS FRIENDS! McCAIN CLAIMS TO BE A MAVERICK, I BELIEVE THAT IS COW. HE IS LYING. REMEMBER THE OLD DEVIL ADAGE: ONE DEVIL WILL NOT CAST ANOTHER DEVIL FROM THE SAME HOUSE. IN OTHER WORDS, McCAIN WILL NOT TURN AGAINST HIS BUDDIES, EVEN THOUGHT HE TALKS AS IF WILL. ALL HE HAS TO DO IS TO LEAD THE VOTERS TO THINK THAT HE WILL. AFTER THE ELECTION, THE FOX WILL NOT FOLLOW THROUGH.

    BEWARE: DO THE MATH- 8 + 4 = 12 HELL NO! 12 NO! HELL NO! 12!
VOTE DEMOCRAT: OBAMA/BIDEN, THE BEST CHOICE, THE ONLY CHOICE.
WHEN THE DEMOCRATS WIN, THE PEOPLE WIN!

I find it humorous that the wingnuts in this posting continously refer to Black crime. Last time I checked, we were all about to be mugged for $700 Billion by a bunch of white guys.

To pipelin/american soldier and others. You have clarified why Obama should be president. McCains
experience that you speak of is rooted in special interest and lobbyists. He has been a strong backer of
deregulation and basically voted with the republican administration that has now put our country in the
worse position since the Great Depression. We are weak financially and have lost our ability to manufacture.
It has all gone overseas. Our auto plants are really assembly plants for products made everywhere else.
As for blacks being fearful that someone who represents them NOT being elected. It is valid. What if all the
people in your city governmet were black or hispanic and made their chioces based on their race and
background? Would you have the life you have? If your black and see someone who can finally at least
understand your history then of course you want them to win. As for the halh black comments, Obama is a
guy who spent a lot of time on the south side of Chicago and was raised by his grandma. There is no
privilege there. No multimillion houses or silver spoon back ground. He only has one house and one car.
He isn't tied to big oil or big money. McCain voted against decent medical care and education funding for
veterans. He voted for every tax break for large corporations that came along. He was very strong for going
into Iraq. Iraq has become the drain people were warned of. We have a great military but, they are just about out of equipment because of this war. Look around at what the republicans have done for the last 25 years.
No regulation of anything that protects your homes, your food or getting an education. We are laughed at
overseas because we claim to be so moral but torture people. We talk about soveriegn nations like
Georgia but give people our invasion of one as an example.. Wake up!! You are voting against your own self
interest. I am voting for Obama because he is intelligent and makes good decisions. He can speak about
and do things that need to get done to bring our country back from the downward spiral started by The Clintons
and the Bush administration. I also grew up in the western Chicago suburbs and realize the inner city of
Chicago where he became a leader is one of the toughest places to get ahead. But they made a difference.
They helped regular people pull themselves up. John McCain and specially George Bush have helped the rich
because they are rich. I am 58 and had been a lifelong republican until 2004. I feel every bit as desperate
as the black people of our country. As should the hispanics, native americans, asians and everyone else
who has to actually work for a living and support a family. We need to go in a different direction completely.
The corporate lobbyists have picked this country clean and now the investment bankers are finishing the job
with this bailout. McCains staff is made up of lobbyists. What do you think he will do if elected?

How did I qualify that Obama should be president? I pointed out that he has no experience, and therefore no business being "COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF" and thusly, shouldn't be President. He has never served this country in a military capacity, and has self-admittedly allowed his patriotism to come into question. He doesn't deserve the right to be my boss--that is what I said. If we were talking about Gen. Colin Powell (RET) I'd vote for him in a heart-beat, even over McCain. It's not about race, it's about who's got the stuff to do the job, and there's no way you can refute his lack of military knowledge or experience--there is none for Obama to speak of. If you're gonna respond to someone's blog, please read it completely before you do so. Those were the points I was trying to make, just as I'm responding only to your specific comment of my having qualified Obama reason for needing to be our next President. That is the only thing I'm responding to . . . the experience I referenced for Sen. McCain was specifically his military experience, and as he was a Naval aviator, POW, and officer, you're damn right that makes him a leader--what the frick do you think officers do?! According to the entire annals of recorded history, OFFICERS LEAD!!!!!!! Senator McCain's track record speaks for itself when it comes to his voting, and he has never tried to shirk from it, but has stood by it. I'd like to point out something from the debate last Friday--McCain said that Obama voted against funding for troops on the ground in the middle of a war, and Obama tried to point out that he voted in favor of troop funding as long as there was a time-table, but McCain voted for funding without said time-table. Which one passed, I wonder--to argue semantics is ridiculous--the point of the issue was, once it was clear which bill was going to go forward to be voted on, Obama voted against it. What the media doesn't tell the American public when they talk about someone not voting for this or that, is that there are usually riders attached to bills, and those riders are usually what precludes someone from voting in favor of that particular bill. Those bills who are really important are usually re-drafted and put through with success once the riders have been eliminated. That is why you'll have the voting records that you do. Just because I'm enlisted and an NCO don't presume that I'm simple or uneducated, sir. I don't do politics or BS, I don't have time for it. I deal with facts, because that's all my time is worth, not twisted rhetoric for political gain. Senator McCain, I believe, is of the same mind-set (oh, and how would you like your entire past history put on trial for the country to see, read about and blog about as we are doing now about our two presidential candidates) and yes, he, as with everyone else, has made mistakes. He's owned up to them too.

It is very interesting that people are attacking the candidates when this article is about how whites should be afraid of black people!!! The KKK should of wrote this article in their publications and it would have at least put the hateful, devisive, garble in context.

  • Posted By: browneyez703@yahoo.com @ 09/29/2008 12:47:14 PM

To Joan R. when you become a State Senator, a U.S. Senator and sponsor legislation, then you will be qualified to define someone???s qualifications. White candidates with meager accomplishments have been the standard choice for years (no being Governor doesn't qualify either).

I will agree that this notion of "what if he loses?" is nonsense. If he loses, then we all move on. It is very simple minded for you to say that the entire black community "matures", black candidates nominations will be problematic. What's problematic is when a white candidate runs on his "record" of being a career Senator and the fact that he was imprisoned for 5 years makes him more qualified. What has been problematic for years are the candidates that have been elected with the qualifications of a peanut farmer, an actor, a wealthy elitist and the wealthy elitist???s idiot son? You say that those choices didn't have much along the lines of accomplishments. Ferraro was wrong because our list of previous presidents prove that white candidates with meager accomplishment were not only considered, but were elected

Obama is inspirational. This year the turnout for new votes is unprecedented! Imagine how much change he can make world-wide when elected!

Get out there and convince two others to vote! This is not a time to sit on the sidelines!

Obama 08 for the Change we need

    • Posted By: josey123 @ 09/29/2008 12:11:34 PM

Obama's support is unprecedented. It is true that not all African Americans will vote for Obama. It's also true that he support is not only from African Americans. I'm volunteering for the campaign and there is a diverse range of support. That encourages me. I will say, though, that my hope is not in Obama. It never has been. So I'd be disappointed not because we missed a historic moment, but because we missed out on a great opportunity. This man brings so much more to the table than just the color of his skin. African Americans need not feel that having a black man as president means that "we've arrived." What it means as a race we have a new standard. Our image needs to change.

I've heard a number of people very nervous that he will lose. That simply cannot be our focus. Unfortunately, American history doesn't give us much faith in one another. More and more to me it is becoming clearer that he will indeed win. If I focus on that, and not my fears, I'm more encouraged.

  • Posted By: voyager5 @ 09/28/2008 11:58:19 PM

I know a fair number of black people, and I don't know ANY who will admit that they are voting for Obama. All of those with whom I have discussed him, consider him to be an embarassment, and someone who will set race relations in this country back many years. It is not his personality. He seems likeable. I think so too. The problems are his policies. He views government as an agent of change for the better, and real people know this is a farce. You don't have to be white or black to understand that government cannot fix social problems, and only makes them worse. Liberal dogma is his undoing.

  • Posted By: Thinker0891 @ 09/29/2008 1:40:59 AM

I can't say it enough. This is NOT about race! This is about the future of America in the midst of an onslaught of attacks from dictators around the world. Nothing would please them better than to have an American President who can't think for himself. They will hold him accountable when he speaks. Unlike the voting public who grants him a pass as long as he says "Let's be clear, what I said was......(insert bullshit advisor revised position here)".
Not to be an alarmist, but having a wishy-washy, position-changing President who can't think without a teleprompter is not what we need right now. The President will not be giving inspirational speeches to people in stadiums on a regular basis. He will be involved in high-level, closed-door meetings that will determine our future position in the world.
Personally, I don't want to be intimidated in any way by the likes of Russia, Venezuela, N. Korea, Iran, etc. Obama is intimidated by NRA commercials in Ohio and Penns. And his supporters in Minnesota (I think it's Minnesota) are ready to arrest and sue ANYONE who libels him...what happened to free speech???
    Not Presidential at all.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/29/2008 7:32:49 AM

"Wishy washy, position changing" describes McCain. They both use teleprompters.
When you are listening to somebody like McCain, you need to check the facts on everything he says.
Changing positions may not always be a bad thing, but when you are not able to explain your position changes with sound reason as is the case with McCain (the Double Talk Express), then people need to start worrying.

      • Posted By: Alvy @ 09/29/2008 11:51:08 AM

McC*** looked kinda angry without his prompter. Did you notice he never really embraces his trollop? His words - not mine.

  • Posted By: Young Hickory @ 09/29/2008 11:37:46 AM

The fact that almost all blacks support Obama is not racist. Almost all blacks supported Clinton, Gore and Kerry because the Republican party is the party of exclusion. Just look at the sea of white faces at the Republican convention. Having said that, African Americans hold the key to this election. The polls are close enough that if African Americans turn out in high number to vote then Obama should win this election walking away. As a Democrat, I say to everyone get out and vote because if we lose we have no one to blame but ourselves.

  • Posted By: HAL--- @ 09/29/2008 11:21:47 AM

This article is trolling...and the writer a TROLL. You cant speak for ALL African-Americans...we are ALL individuals.

    Mr American-Soldier
You stated that you are half vietnamese I wonder what the other half is. I agree that Mccain served in the Army and was a prisoner of war but does that automatically make him a leader. This is a great nation and if we are to keep it that way we should get rid of the status quo. Its time to diversify and try something new.

    • Posted By: American-Soldier @ 09/29/2008 10:48:53 AM

I don't think there is a single American who would count 22 years of service as a Naval officer (he was in the Navy, haven't you been paying attention--I'm in the Army) the same as 20 years of being a community organizer in a small-to-mid-sized town south of Chicago. He hasn't really done much for the people who live in that town, or for the people of Illinois since he was elected to his current Senate office. As for my ethnicity, what does it matter whether my other half is white, black, or a different asian minority. What was the purpose of asking that question, when one of my main points was that it doesn't and shouldn't matter. Obviously, the color of someone's skin, or their parent's skin says alot about who they are--is that what the readers on this blog should assume about you??? That's what I'm getting. I serve this country with pride and honor, as did Senator McCain, and I believe he will continue to do so. I'm surprised, although I probably shouldn't be, that your first comment was about my ethnic background and not the topic at hand--does that make you a racist, or a person who places importance on the color of someone's skin? I'm a soldier and an American, and I defend this country and YOUR rights, that's all that should matter to you, sir. Keep that in mind, will ya?! I wear a flag on my right shoulder everyday, I believe in God, and my blood is as red as yours and every other human being on this earth--at least I know what I stand for, and I can say that I serve with my fellow soldiers regardless of their religious or ethnic background because we're American soldiers. (Here's a hint for you--notice I keep mentioning and using the word 'American'--that's because every citizen of this country, regardless of religion or race is just that--an American, and that was my point--everyone need's to build a bridge and get over the race crap and focus on America and it's future, and vote based on merit, experience, and track record, not on color, which is what the undertones of the article which sparked this debate seemed to lean heavily on--color, and how it was a factor (when it never should be, in my opinion)). That, sir is all I have to say in response to your comment. Good day and God bless!!!

Obama was raised by his white mother - other than being abandoned by his black father - he really has nothing in common with the average black man and the challenges a real black person faces in America.

    • Posted By: jath123 @ 09/29/2008 10:44:09 AM

I was going to suggest you may be a tad racist, until I looked into it and saw an NPR report that up to 70% of American blacks are now born out of wedlock. Holy cow! Hopefully a healthy loving Obama family in the White House will create a positive image to be replicated by all.

  • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 09/28/2008 9:36:12 PM

Obama will lose on his socialist past and embracing Biden as his VP, making the ticket entirely left wing, entirely liberal.
Obama will lose on his radicle past---which he denies with words... but history makes it clear his companion, Bill Ayers, is a terrorist and the goal was to bring all the violence around the whole world onto the streets of the USA under the call, "Bring The War Home."
For those who don't know, the weathermen were NOT a black organization, but a bunch of dumb rich white kids trying to allign with black causes...and shape them to their own ideas of...of...of...CHANGE!
History records the weathermen broke a black civil rights activist out of prison...but also Timothy leary... and for money! $$$$$$
Obama and biden are NOT a Robin Hood and his Merry Men out to equalize and assure fairness! But just the $ame old $ocialism and Americans $uck First campaign we've heard from the left wing for decades!

Please continue with these talking points! The undecided independent voters don't listen to AM radio, don't know the script, and have no idea what the f___k you are talking about. Please keep wasting your breath. Otherwise, you might use your time to actually persuade voters to support your disasterous candidate. Thank you for your service.

Why is there no discussion of the nearly 100% polling numbers for Obama in the Black community? Is this not considered racist in itself? What if he does loose? Could it be because he is the most liberal leaning, socialist candidate the dems have nominated for president in last 100 years? And could his loss be attributed to a repudiation of politics and ideas and not because he's black? I have noticed all the racial and sexist comments are coming from the left. Why?
