What If Obama Loses?

I am a senior in high school this year. I'm your average caucasian teenage girl, and I won't be able to vote in this election. However, I believe that if Obama loses the young generation is going to suffer also. More young people than ever are getting out to vote and are paying attention to this election. If Obama loses, our futures will suffer. More soldiers are dying every day and it's my generation that is signing up for the army and going to Iraq if McCain wins. I really just hate to see that happen.
And on another note, a more positive one I believe, IF Obama loses, it's still a huge step for African-Americans. Most people didn't even believe that he could become the democratic nominee and now he's right up there debating the points with McCain and getting his voice heard. I think that even IF Obama loses everyone now knows that it's okay to vote for a black man in the primary or to support a black man. I believe that his nomination is a big stepping stone for the future of America.

You are TOTALLY correct. Please speak louder so that everyone can hear you.
Yes, it is your generation that will suffer. Your generation will be forced to enlist in the military for housing, food, jobs and retirement plans. Your generation that will die fighting frivilous causes around the world. Your generation without the AMERICAN DREAM !

To be still in high school, you seem to 'see' some things that others do not see or maybe wish to ignore.
      Yes, it is YOUR GENERATION

I'm so sorry to have to wake us all up. It was so nice while it lasted. HOWEVER please keep in mind the following:

    1. We are in America. The good, Best, Brightest, Most Qualified, usually DON'T win or make it to the top.
    2. Gore LOST!!!
    3. Kerry LOST!!!
    4. This country elected George Bush TWICE! Yes that's right TWICE!!!
5 Al Gore and John Kerry. (Both fine individuals and also very intellegent) should have won but didn't.
    6. The Republicans are simply EVIL incarnate. They worship money and power and will do ANYTHING
to keep it. They use thier code words like "liberal", etc. to try to demonise anybody of concience.
And this is very effective and goes unchallenged in the media.

    7. They have literally stolen the last 2 elections with the help of the DiBold voting machines. The process has
been well documented in HBO documentary film. The repubicans and power elite have found a way to fix
elections (a. make it seem close- e.g. media polling) and then have it come down to the last 2 or 3 states
(with the rigged Dibold voting machines. After election, no questions will be asked.
    8. After IRAQ, KATRINA, $700B bailout, $4 gas prices, ENRON, speculators driving up prices of oil,
rising deficit, etc.....and the polls have it CLOSE!!!!!.
    9. NEVER IN HISTORY has a sitting president had dis-approval numbers of 82%. but it's "Close".

    10. It doesn't matter if he wins or not at this point. After a $700B bailout of wall street executives, his
administration won't have money to do hsit for anybody black or white!!!!
    11. The repubicans have the country at gunpoint right now on the bailout and it seems thier Democratic
partners are equally working to ensure that either he or McCain inherits a bankrupt goverment.
(Lets see how much "change" is gonna happen when your Trillions of dollars in debt)?
    12. I pray I am wrong about all of this. But if I know my good old reliably racist, stupid, easily fooled America
with the short memory, this party is soon going to be over for all of us. And the spineless
Demoncrats will let them get away with it yet again.

    13. I am sorry to put all this negativity out there. But I know how I felt after Gore and Kerry lost and I vowed I
would never fall for this election crap again....And then came Barak (our modern day JFK or Bobby Kennedy)
some of what they had is in him.

I Really, Really hope and pray I'm wrong about all this. He would be just what the country needs now (if he were all European, white I would still say the same thing).

African Americans have worked just s hard to create the backbone of this country as any other immigrant group thinks they have. However African Americans were not able to hide their race by simply changing their last name. The 'we're owed' mentality did not start with African Americans. As each ethic group invaded a section of the culture, they are sure to fill vacant positions with their own kind. It's just the American way to feel that you're owed (probably because each 'group' has felt shut out at one time or another). Let's face it, if the world worked fairly, these issues would never have come up in the first place.

some times you have ask where in your mind if the people who want to kill us LIKES THE NEW PRESIDENT WOULD THAT NOT LEAD TO FRIENDSHIP STUPID

      • Posted By: California66 @ 09/28/2008 3:08:38 PM

        Nuking45,
The people who want to kill us want Obama to win because they know he is weak. Wanting him to win and liking him are two different things. They'll still hate us and want to kill us regardless of who wins, an Obama win will NOT make them want to be our BFF. Also, calling someone "stupid" is rude, please don't do that again. And if you absolutely MUST insult someone else's intelligence, you may want to consider using proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar while you do so. Your comment was nearly unintelligible.

To say that blacks in this country vote for Barack obama simply because he is black is about the most insulting rhetoric to our intelligence since the 1950's. We are all Americans first. race has no bearing when it comes to paying taxes, the economy, and who dies in Iraq. As Americans, we vote for the best man for the job that serves all of our best interests. Sure blacks in America can be proud, much like Irish Catholics were proud of Kennedy, but a black President is not going to stop the cops from pulling me over for no reason.

Legitt, don't believe all the funky emails you receive. Go to factcheck.org to clear up your other comments, too.
This is the text from Audacity of Hope regarding Muslim Americans in the US:
"Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]: Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

You are ignorant or muck-raking, probably both.

  • Posted By: Legitt @ 09/28/2008 3:03:59 PM

Yeah lets talk about stealing votes ............. google several sites that expalin how obama stole votes from Hillary Clinton ......... blocking and locking doors, telling senior citizens that the polls closed down, forging signatures of people, some alive, some not ........... yeah lets talk about obama's ethic record.

The race with John McCain is as tight as Sarah Palin's smile? I thought it was as wide open as Barack Obama's ears, or maybe as delicately balanced as Biden's hair plugs. Wow, I felt stupid even replying in kind to your ignorant comments. This article is an embarrassment...

Thank you, Blackvet. Though I won't be voting for Obama, I would have most certainly voted for General Colin Powell. Again not because of something so unimportant as the color of his skin, but because I respected Gen. Powell, and agreed with his politics, and trusted him to do what was right. This is about the good of our country, not about putting down the white man, or who will do what is right by you only. No president will ever be able to please everyone. I only want him to do the best he can, taking into account every aspect and every outcome, with a nod to his conscience. It certainly isn't easy to do what you believe is right when perhaps what is right isn't what is popular.

This article is obviously meant to inflame whites sentiiments against Obama. It is not written by a white person but by a jew. They have only Israel's interest in mind and have been out to spread rumours about Obama. Remember the New Yorker magazine cover. If as usual whites take the bait, then they do so at their own loss.

I am a 47 year-old, white male, been a registered Republican for 29 years, serves my country for 19 years, 16 of it as an Officer. I have watched our country fall apart over the last 8 years, members of the Presidents inner circle commit acts of treason (the Plame incident), a President who openly lies to the country still, whether it was the lies of WMD and Al-Qida to get us into Iraq to "finish" the war his father started, or the lies of economies stability - right up until the Stock Market almost crashed this past week.

ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP!! I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign or domestic - that's straight word for word from my commisioning oath. Our Government is corrupt, the system is so broke it is almost beyond repair. The Insurance, Drug, and especially the OIL lobbies have bought off our Government, and we are only looking at more of the same, or worse, for the next four years if McCain-Palin are elected.

If you are ignorant enough to buy into their "Maverick" BS and actually vote for them - without looking at their records with an open mind and eyes, then you have nobody to blame but yourself when you lose your healthcare coverage, you lose your job because the company has "outsourced" them to a third world country, you can't afford $7 a gallon gas, and you can't put your kids through college.

No, although there are those who want to reduce this Presidential race down to terms of skin color and what religious belief the candidate holds, there are those Americans like myself who remember the greatness this Country once had in the eyes of the World, how we are a shadow of what we once were, and that it is beyond time for change, and this may be our last chance for it.

That is why, living here in the heart of "Red" territory (another devisive tactic) in Nebraska I, a life-long Republican, joined MoveOn.org two years ago, actively and financially support Scott Kleeb for Sen. Chuck Hagel's open seat, and actively and financially supporting Barack Obama's candidacy for President - because it IS time for change!

The problem with this article is Allison Samuels. I just scanned thru past articles she has written. This woman is a racist who also seems to hate men. And how is she qualified to be a reporter? She has a BA from some no name school. Newsweek editors: you couldn't find a more qualified (eg, MA in journalism from a better school) person to write than this racist Allison Samuel????

what if Obama doesn't win? we get what we deserve. A man gets caught behind enemy lines and that makes him a hero?As a pilot of the military he probably dropped more explosives on defenseless people than anyone has.He is lucky he made it home.Senator McCain has been piggybacking this war hero story for quite some time.He reminds me of former mayor Guilano. He claimed to be a hero for doing press conferences. When the Govenor has the power to diploy the nationalguard.Don't try to make an embarassing situtation into a heroeic event. No one has previous experience as the president.I would rather take my chance on a young family man than a disgruntle freed POW!!

WOW whats interesting here is the black population is always touting RACISM RACISM, when they are the most racists of all. How many blacks were protesting what Rev. Wright was saying in his sermons, not many I will bet you and his sermons were horrendous. I have personally in all my years never heard a pastor talk that way, let alone to be preaching it in the church.
Who ever heard of riots and protests when the election is not won. Do the blacks think they own the election? If obama loses, it will be the peoples choice, if he wins, should all the white people protest and riot? Thats why people are so afraid of the black race, they have shown themselves to be unstable and eratic.

    • Posted By: valleybilly @ 09/28/2008 3:00:46 PM

the only probem though is that Rev Wright was right, so there was no need for protest

Those of you who "talk race" are biased. AMERICANS are not of any one race or color or religion. I am tired of this "africian -american" phrase. I am of German, Dutch, and Irish families. But here in AMERICA....I AM AMERICAN. Lets drop all of this race talk and get along. Judge a person by his QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE. That is what is going to get us ahead in the end. GOD LESS AMERICA and GOD BLESS THE TROOPS !!!!!!!!!! ksmom58

What is scary to me is that we have people just voting because of a name and race. Is that really the smart decision? Or should we be voting on the issues the person stands for...I would hope so. So besides Obama being black what is he going to bring to our society? What changes is he going to make for our future Stop talking about race and gender we, can't base the country???s future on that. What are the facts, what are the values, what do these people truly stand for? Do your homework and find out before voting for anyone. That's the smart thing to do!

  • Posted By: unitingIdeology @ 09/28/2008 3:00:06 PM

Susi-Q, sorry but you are one of those people that are bigoted and are in denial. In the most recent debate between Obama and McCain, Obama clearly stated that he will not raise taxes for anyone making UNDER $150,000. So, if he stated this, then why do you insist that he is planning to raise taxes? Well, three reasons are possible: 1) it's either you hate him THAT much because he is black or a Democrat, 2) you are just incredibly uneducated and uninformed, or 3) You make A LOT of money. Obama is more qualified to be President than McCain because the democratic ideology is far more in tune with the rest of the world than republican ideology. Think about it, there is far more people in the world that DON'T HAVE rather than HAVE. We need to be united and at one with the world. I don't think McCain is Bush, but I don't see him as someone that can restore our standing with the world. 9/11 should have taught you taught you that the world DOES matter. We have to care about those less fortunate than us. McCain isn't racist, he isn't bigoted, but he IS Republican. That means he wants to give tax breaks to the rich and hope it trickles down to the less fortunate rather than giving to the less fortunate so that they can live life easier. Nothing is wrong with that except that with this economy, the ones with money are not re-investing in America. They are hiding their money in overseas accounts and simply pocketing their profits. Just look at all of the CEO's that have let their corporations to failure and left with so much money. But back to the topic of the article. Polls show that some whites won't vote for him because of his skin color. I just hope that fact doesn't cost him the election. If he does lose, I hope it's mostly because Republicans love their ideology and visions more than true change.

What I find amusing is that all of you and millions more actually think american citizens actually have some say in who is the president. It's amusing in the sense that 90% of americans are ignorant fools who will believe whatever they hear on TV or the internet. The president is decided by the electoral college. Not us. Look up the definition of the electoral collage, the very definition states that it is in place because we are not wise or intelligent enough to know whats good for us. This world always has been and always will be ruled by greedy power hungry tyrants. There is no possible way in this day and age to rise to the power of the US president and remain a good honest person who cares for the people. If by chance you do reamain a good person, you will be killed. So if you're wondering who would be the better president, who would change things for the better, wait until one of them is elected. If he follows Lincoln, Kennedy, and and Martin Luther King to the grave, then we'll know he was a good man. That is the only true test of a good leader. You change the world, you die. Look at history

    • Posted By: hammy06 @ 09/28/2008 2:56:53 PM

The electoral college decides who they vote for based on the popular vote of their state. To say that our votes don't matter is ignorant in and of itself.
