I am a white man supporting Obama. I would expect black men and women to take lose like anyone else. I would be surprised if they did protest if the election is won fair by McCain. Thats like saying the seniors are going to protest if McCain looses.
But not to worry. Obama will win. Its aricles like this that keeps seperation between people. Quit trying to start something that isnt there. Got to love the media.

Well, I am a middle-aged white male, and I would have LOVED to have voted for the first black president or first female president (black or white). I don't care much for McCane's politics but I care less for ultra liberal leftist politics. So I would vote against that politic regardless of who the candidate was or his/her race. To vote in an ultra liberal leftist would be to start the ball rolling towards a socialist United States. I shudder at the thought... our individual rights have been eroded enough without adding to the present liberal leftist-leaning congressional majority a leftist-leaning liberal president. Fifty years ago a young, charismatic revolutionary lulled the population of Cuba into believing he was bringing the "change they needed." He brought change, but the one HE thought they needed -- Leninist/Marxist and in the process he destroyed Cuban society. Don't think that's not possible in the US. THAT's why I CANNOT VOTE FOR OBAMA, because he represents that danger to me. HIS POLITICS is the reason, not his gender and not his race. But let's keep the HOPE alive that one of the parties will someday put forth a BLACK or FEMALE candidate that will espouse the conservative politics that will take the United States to a higher level of GREATNESS as the truly democratic power it has been and not drop it into the disastrous tailspin that is socialism. FYI - Arizona ignores most holidays! Prior to moving to Arizona - I always got presidents day off. AZ doesn't recognize it as a holiday - so the majority of us (unless you work for the government) have to work most holidays! So don't blame McCain for not approving a holiday. We Americans cannot afford to let Obama win! He never gives straight answers, says "ugh" lots, stutters, lies, is disrespectable to McCain, etc. Most of all he doesn't have the experience, professionalism, & maturity to be our president! God help us if he wins! From a female democrat who is going to vote republican for the first time in her life!

Theresa in Oregon you talk about changing the electoral college if Obama loses. How comes no one wanted to change the delegates to the popular when Clinton lost to Obama. Do you think too many people were being sexist.

I am 100% asian and not ashame to say I am a 46 years old Thai lady. I will NOT vote for Obama not because of the color but I know better who will be best to lead the country at this point with all qualities as a leader should have. Eventhough McCain is not the best choice but still better than a dreamer. To those that have never ever voted before in their lives and come out this time just because of the color. I think you need to educate yourself some more.

My parents came to this country from the nation of Trinidad and Tobago. I was born and grew up in the United States . Identified, at various times in my life, as Colored ,Negro, Black, or Afro-American, I thought and acted as an American .
The handlers of John McCain and Barack Obama are both selfish and greedy only differing in degrees. and it is easy to see how they have lose sight of those qualities which makes our country the place where many others want to live and raise their children.
Change will happen. As Americans we need to be less selfish and greedy than those who surround our candidates . . We must always think of America first . We are one family and at times like most families think speak and act horribly towards one another. For most of us, however blood is thicker than money.

My mother who lived to age of 101 once told me to have courage. She did
not say dont be afraid, she said have courage. .

Race is only an issue in this country because people cannot stop themselves from talking about it. If something doesn't go your way, then it is a racial thing. Anymore, race is merely a crutch. If Obama wins, do you really want a country that limps along because we Still cannot overcome something innocuous as skin color? If McCain wins, are we going to fall back on racial pride and anger, proving to those dwindling number of rascists still out there that they were right all along? Personally, if we wish to stamp out racism altogether, then let us stop stereotyping ourselves as African-Americans, Italian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, etc. and call us all what we truly are: Americans. I'm a melting pot, and proud of it. I believe our country is greater for our diversity. If Obama doesn't win, perhaps it simply isn't time for him. Perhaps in another 4 years, another black man will rise up with more experience and better able to lead us. For me, race isn't the issue; economics, foreign policy, education, taxes, national debt . . . these are the issues. I will vote accordingly for what I feel is the best thing for our country. And, whoever wins, history will be made . . . the first black president or the first female vice-president. We are ready.

First Obama is bi racial, does that mean he's what ever race is needed at the time? NO. Voting isnt a black or white issue and this shouldnt be about his race. Mr Obama is a trailblazer in his own right. We need to stop and remember a gentleman named Collin Powell. He became top in his field not becuase of race, but he was qualified and a cut above his peers (many races not just white). Carrying undertones that there'll be trouble if Obama isnt elected is the fastest way to NOT get him elected. State as a person what points you feel are important that he supports rather than say becuase he's black thats what matters. Anyone who has been in combat to support our country doesnt always support who was in office, yet when your buddies are hurt, hit, and dying around you, You dont care what color the medic is becuase where all green. Anyone who has been in combat or served doesnt take the lives of americans lightly. Quit blaming Bush for all our problems, our personal choices decide the outcomes of our days. White, Black, ... it doesnt matter. Vote for who you'll think will help improve our country, not who you believe will give us handouts.

I am a senior in high school this year. I'm your average caucasian teenage girl, and I won't be able to vote in this election. However, I believe that if Obama loses the young generation is going to suffer also. More young people than ever are getting out to vote and are paying attention to this election. If Obama loses, our futures will suffer. More soldiers are dying every day and it's my generation that is signing up for the army and going to Iraq if McCain wins. I really just hate to see that happen.
And on another note, a more positive one I believe, IF Obama loses, it's still a huge step for African-Americans. Most people didn't even believe that he could become the democratic nominee and now he's right up there debating the points with McCain and getting his voice heard. I think that even IF Obama loses everyone now knows that it's okay to vote for a black man in the primary or to support a black man. I believe that his nomination is a big stepping stone for the future of America.

Oh, I'm sorry---somehow, I thought the race for presidency involved having the skills needed to lead the country. I'm glad this article cleared it up. If Obama wins, should that be a "slap in the face to white people?" No, it will declare the stupidity of this nation to look at this as a white vs. black race where black people, again, feel entitled. "How should people feel?" Come on, anyone is disappointed if their preferred candidate loses, and that is the bottom line. God help us if Obama wins--guess what, black people, you'll be paying more taxes, too... or will that only be the white people? Get a clue, Newsweek, and be fair.

I am a white middle-aged women (naturalized citizen) who had straight A's through High school, my parents came from nothing worked hard and became lower middle-class in this county. I went to college and had to work 3 jobs to get through, it was hard, I didn't get any money from anyone, meanwhile minorities were there for free, had the nicest clothes and I served them their dinner. I'm not bitter, it's just so interesting to me. Same with the loan debacle, we have no debt (we go without to do that), we have a sensible mortage and never moved into a mini mcmansion, we could have, but we live within our means...now I have to bail out people who WANTED the dream home and felt they should have it because people kept telling them, it's not fair, you've suffered. Things will NEVER be equal. The pendulum will always swing and life will not be fair. McCain IS NOT Bush, that's why he won the primaries and the other Repubs didn't. Ageism is a prejudice. too. I work with a 72 year old woman who is as sharp as any of my peers. Shame on those who talk about his age and his cancers (do some reading and you'll find out that most of the cancers are pre-cancerous and people get them taken off ALL the time, it doesn't mean they HAVE cancer). I am so sick and tired of all the focus on the little issues...we need a take-charge person, someone who talks without talking around the issues, someone who doesn't take credit for other's work, someone who has suffered for this country , someone who really will CHANGE things. Here's a thought...he's too old to worry about his reputation or his future..there's some comfort in that.

I'm a white woman also, and I'll be more than angry if Obama loses this election. All Americans, no matter what our skin color, our ethinicity, or religion simply CANNOT afford 4 more years of similar failed policies, lies, fear mongering, and just rotten government we suffered under the Bush/Cheney puppet show. Make no mistake, despite McCain's puny efforts to distance himself from Bush, his consistent Senate voting record shows otherwise.

Obama is the shining beacon of the future; he's young, he's brilliant, he's willing to listen to the opinions of others before making some sawed-off cowboy knee jerk decision. McCain, demonstrated his scratching & clawing political Me-First ambitions, by appointing the very perky former beauty queen, Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.. Even the most conservative of the political pundits are now calling for her to step down--for the good of the GOP and the country--due to her stunning inability to carry on simple Q & A sessions with Couric, Gibson and other TV talking news heads. Today it's Katie, tomorrow it could be Dimitry (Medvedev who is actually the president ot Russia, no longer Putin). Poor ol' John is not getting any younger or healthier. The thought of this woman, who is breath-taking in her obvious lack of political savvy and vital facts possibly becoming president would almost resemble a Saturday Night Live skit if it weren't so pathethic. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, get involved in your communities these last weeks before the election; make sure all eligible voters are registered, ask about oversight at the polling places in your neighborhoods (so we don't have a repeat of the 2000 election crimes committed in Florda). We can elect Obama and have bi-partisan legislation especially as it affects the horrendous financial quagmire we're facing, or we can elect McCain who just a few months ago admitted "the economy is not his strong suit". Is this not a NO BRAINER???

The comment from Jacon Richmon is very telling...he's never voted before?? REGARDLESS OF THE COLLOR OF YOUR SKIN, if you do not vote, do not complain about the situation our country is in. I didn't want either candidate in the last 2 elections ....did not feel they were speaking for me either but you have to look at who would be the best choice and go with it. If I chose to not vote, I have absolutely no business complaining.

Who cares if he is black or white. He is by far the most qualified, intelligent, forward thinking, passionate man for the job. Who would want to listen to the too little, too old, too cranky troll for the next four years destroy any chance of USA credibility in the world. At least with Obama whether he is black or white or green we have a man who potentially can lead and inspire the USA to begin a recovery from the worst eight adminstrative years in our entire history.

Allison, you're a fool for writing an article like this at this point in the race. Why are you constantly whining about everything? You remind me of Jerry Rice constantly complaining that he didn't get as many commercial endorsement offers as Joe Montana and blaming it on race. Well, Michael Jordan got a lot more commercials than Montana and he was black. He also had ten times as much charisma as Rice.

You're constantly whining about women being oppressed and blacks being oppressed. Oprah Winfrey doesn't seem very oppressed to me. Maybe you should ask her what you're doing wrong.

And why in the world would you start out an article with this: "how to please your man in the bedroom" or "pimps in the pulpit." You're really going out of your way to stir up stuff.

Quit your whining ahead of time. Obama hasn't lost yet and he's not going to lose. Asking a 21-year-old black man what he intends to do about it if Obama loses is just about the worst sort of "journalism" I have ever seen. You have one big, gigantic chip on your shoulder and it's showing. Get over it. Newsweek had to be crazy to let you write this article. Either that or they're in the tank for McCain.

It is a shame you feel this is a racial issue. I work with many intelligent black, hispanic and other ethnic groups. Has it ever occured to you its not about color its about who is best for the job. If an ethnic person applys for a position and is qualified they get the position. I really get sick and tired of the "poor me " attitude I see. Many of the racial issues happened many years ago get over it. You don't see scholorship awards for just white people. Our country is a mixture of many different races and cultures. I hope who ever wins this election can really do whats best for all the people. I would prefer less government control. We are all smart people and if we treated each other how you would like to be treated things would be much better. If America is so bad why do people want to come and live here. It is because we have the most freedom. If you work hard and not expect handouts the world is yours.
