This sounds less like a story than a (not-so) subtly veiled threat. I also don't think I feel like applauding the fact that more felons and drug users (and this is not my opinion on African Americans, but is rooted in the facts the story portrayed) are registering to vote. That isn't who I want helping to make decisions for my family.

Comment: I am voting for Obama because he is the best person for the job. I can't pretend to understand what it is like to be African-American in this country because I'm not. So when I say I know your fear, it's not because of the race issue...I know your fear because I watched white corporate America steal the Presidency not once, but twice from my candidates who, although they were white, were also the best people for the job. After 8 years of the Bush/Chaney debauchery, I am feeling desperate and panicked...what if the best person for the job doesn't win yet again?! I am seriously considering leaving this country to live elsewhere. Not because a person of color didn't win, but because the BEST CANDIDATE didn't win and our country is too stupid, or too blind, or too corrupt to care. I hope my country doesn't disappoint us again. Power to the people!! VOTE and we will prevail!!! Kathee H.

I'm white,,middle class and I love Obama. I too will be greatly disappointed should he loose. But voting is so important, especially now, please vote especially if you love Obama.

I have a white friend who is a court reporter and decided she wanted to live in the South. She bought a little trrailer and moved all around the South looking for a court reporters job or even free lance deposition work. But all the judges and lawyers were black and refused to give her the time of day. She had to leave.
White people who are voting for Obama don't realize that Blacks are getting ready to take revenge and turn the discrimination clock back 100 years. Once they start discriminating against us, all our gains in this area will be lost. You can't tell me it isn't true because I saw it with my own eyes. Blacks aren't looking for equality, they are looking to get "even"- just like in the O J Simpson murder case. We all saw that with our own eyes too. What has Obama done to show us that he is not that way? He seems like an angry black male too who was busy being a corrupt ACORN organizer, trainer and lawyer. My personal opinion is that he has anger isssues with his white mother abandoning him- that is why he clung to Black Liberation Theology so hard and so long. I don't see Obama being President of all the people. And neither does Linda Wright, who knows white people are turning over the keys to the Kingdom to Blacks. She and I are on the same page- we both acknowledge reality. It is a shame we don't trust each other. Maybe someday.... Abyssgazer is insulted by her comments, but he is the one living in a dream world.

I find this person is afraid. Afraid of what? It appears you resent the fact that black people want equality. I sense a real fear of the day black people will "measure up". Don't you feel it will be nice and that will bring more peace. When you have people around you who are deprived of feel deprived, then they become dangerous. I feel that you should live and let live. Vote for your candidate but do not spread fear by making statements that you cannot defend with fact.

Nobody is thinking about revenge. Please know facts so that you can write an intelligent comment. Barack was never abandoned by his mom she raised him and loved him. American belongs to everyone! Change is coming ,but it will be good for all. it has nothing to do with race.

If Obama wins, and when he screws up the country, he'll just blame Geoge Bush. The liberal media and the rest of his sheeple will belive him. We are ready for a black president, just not him!!

For a race of people to vote 90% for a candidate strictly because he is black is why black america continues to struggle in the united states. Look at the top 10 cities for violent crime and when the last time a republican was mayor of those cities. The Democrats and Black America deserve each other because the ignorance shown in voting in mass quantitiy for a man who has no qualifications or experience to be president shows why black america is the most racist race of people in this country and why they struggle so much.

People are making this a race issue, why? just becuase he is the first major BI RACIAL person this close to office they should Auto win NONONO. What about hir non black half? So which is he? If people want to vote becuase of skin color and that basis alone then they are being Racist. Look at the whole picture, anyone remember Collin Powell he got his job becuase he WAS qualified and a step above his peers not becuase he was black. Start stating the policies that make you support Obama instead of playing the race card and saying if he doesn't win, there'll be trouble.

Cont???d . . . McCain has a PROVEN, RECORDED, and DOCUMENTED history of getting the job done regardless of whom he was working with or for--Obama doesn't, and now isn't the time for him to develop that record as President. I'm a medic, so believe me when I say that 3mm is about as deep as the pigment goes--without skin, we're all the same. The Civil War was 143 years ago, and if the African American community wants to bring up reparations and complain about their lot in life, then blame the Spanish and the Portuguese--the ones who captured, transported and sold your ancestors over here!!!!! It's called the Triangle trade, and I learned about it in 8th Grade US History. There isn't a single other minority group from the Philippines (abused in WWII), Koreans and Vietnamese (battle grounds for almost 2 millennia), the Jews (self-explanatory), the Irish (the famine was real people) who publicly *** about what happened to them way back when. The time is now, America, and we need to act and vote responsibly as Americans, regardless of ethnicity. Let's keep building on the dream we live known as America--we're the only ones who can . . .

African Americans should fear that their biggest dissappointment will be if Obama is elected. In that case, they will find that the only thing he shares in common with the average African American is his skin color. Is not the decendent of slaves and shares no cultural affinity with them. He was raised by a white mother and grandparents and spent a large part of his formative years overseas and in Hawaii. His one conection to "African American" culture was his African father who spent little time in his life or in America. Obama is a Harvard educated elitist who share more in common with my white anglo saxon protestant background than he does with that of black americans. If I were black I would be indignant that Obama is leveraging his skin color to achieve his political ambitions. Trojan Horse yes. But whose Trojan Horse is he?

  • Posted By: American-Soldier @ 09/28/2008 2:36:58 PM

Why has the Presidential election become a black versus white issue?! The African American community needs to stop talking about the 3mm of skin pigmentation that makes people's skin tone different and concentrate on the rest of the person that is Barack Obama. I'm half Vietnamese, and I could care less about the skin color of my future boss (I'm in the Army). I do care about whether he has the knowledge and experience to lead myself and my fellow soldiers. This is a no-brainer--McCain can, Obama can't. There is no way that Obama would ever make a public statement to our great nation and impress upon them not to vote because of race or skin color but vote for whom will be the best choice for our country on the issues that will make or break us in the next 4-8 years. I don't want to be lead by someone who has no comprehension of what it means to wear the uniform of a soldier, airman or seaman, and has allowed his patriotism to come under severe and self-admitted scrutiny. The last time I checked, and I check rather often so as to better educate myself about the history of both men funning for president, Obama's record of voting concerning the military, gun control, and freedom of speech concerning the use of the word "God" is an affront to our founding fathers. If you want to talk party politics, there is no way we should put a Democrat in the Oval Office. Four years ago, when they were promising change if they got elected to the Senate and the House, and achieved numerical superiority in both, the housing market has bottomed out, prices for gas have doubled, and all they can do is blame President George Bush. They believe that the American public is stupid enough to believe that Bush is solely responsible for all that. We have 3 branches of government, and the Executive branch (Bush) cannot pass laws without the consent of the Legislative Branch (the Senate and the House), and they are the ones responsible for drafting and voting on the laws and riders that Bush then either signs into law or vetoes. This is 11th grade US Gov't class stuff people. Wake up America, "We the People" need to take a stand for our rights as Americans as "One nation, under God", stop talking about black or white, and start talking about the issues and who is best to lead--I want a veteran who's spent his life serving this country, not someone who's looking for experience . . . would you want your sons and daughters serving in the military to be mentored by a Private (E-1) or an experienced NCO, like a Command Sergeant Major (E-9), or led in to battle by a brand new 2nd Lieutenant (O-1) or a Colonel or General (O-6-10). This isn't about skin color it's about experience in leadership when the stuff hits the fan--McCain was a POW in Vietnam, and served in the military for 22 years--Obama was a community planner/organizer in Chicago . . . cont???d

How can a man with his limited credentials be the best man for the job. He cannot even articulate clear pintpoint answers with specifics during a debate....all he talks about are large ideas and being different than GWB. Mcain at least tell us how he will be different than GWB. Listen directly to the canidates, not the propaganda media.

I'm a white male, and I intend to vote for Obama.
Not because he's black, but because he's a Democrat, and embraces the needs of The American People.
I understand the African-American view of having a black man run for President.
However, I think it's wrong for ANYBODY to vote for a candidate because of his race.
The primary consideration is how will this man do his job, will he work for the betterment of the American People, or will he adhere to the foolish ideology of the Republican view?
Anybody who votes for McCain might as well just shoot themselves in the foot now, and be done with it.

So you wont vote for someone because of race BUT you admit you vote because they are democrat?
Thats a crock in itself. People should vote for the person NOT the race, not the party not anything but what the candidate can do to make it better for the American people and the future of America. Im so sick of hearing how its ALL Bushs fault. IN truth the problems started a LONG time ago, before either Bush, before Clinton, Before Regan....how far back doesnt matter..what matters is what is going to be done NOW to change things? Who is the most QUALIFIED to change things? Who has the most support and backing from people of experience to make the changes they promise??? I dont feel it matters who gets into office because either candidate is going to be blamed for not cleaning up the messes made many many years ago...whoever gets into office wont change a darn thing until we get the people in congress OUT and get all new people in that dont bow down the the lobbists and the money hungry people just raping us middle class americans for everything they can get out of us. THis country is in trouble. Who is best to start the change we need?? Think long and think hard because YOUR VOTE DOES matter!!!!

This country is still dealing with racism and probably always will. It's been true for a long time that a an African American has to work twice as hard, twice as long for half as much pay just to be considered an "equal" to their white counterparts. Racism is never going to go away. It's roots run extremely deep in the psyche of white America. However, that being said something extraordinary has still taken place. The Democratic Party who could have chosen ANYONE to be their presidential candidate CHOSE a black man, Barack Obama to be their candidate. Never before in the history of this country has that ever happened before. Some have tried but didn't get very far. Something else too. Barack Obama could not have been nominated as the candidate for his party without the support and votes of a large number of white voters across the U.S. There are not enough black votes in this country to elect Obama on their own. He's going to need the help of white voters as well. There are people in this country who will never be able to wrap their minds around the concept of electing a black president. But as Barack has said, "This is out time, this is our moment" He certainly has the legitimate chance to do this. He can be elected. There is something very different about Barack, different from Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson et. al. The challenge for Barack is that if he succeeds and is elected he will then have to perform as he has promised. No president operates in a vacuum. He has to deal with Congress, the Judiciary and the opposing party. To be able to truly work to bring bipartisanship to fruition is something many presidents have not been able to do.. Racism will always be here. It will always play a role in politics. If Barack is elected and he performs well in office, then maybe this country chips away a little bit more at that wall of racism . That wall won't come down in my lifetime or probably even my children's lifetime but what a better time to start than now. And not that this should matter to anyone out there but I am one of those white voters (along with 4 other voters in my home) who supports Barack Obama and will vote for him in November.

I think it shows more respect for the man if you treat him as any other candidate: Vote for him if you agree with his politics, and don't vote for him if you don't.

This idea that you must be racist if you don't vote for him is comical.

How many white liberals would vote for Clarence Thomas for president?

If Obama wins or loses we can't disregard the historical significance of what he achieved. He is still the first African American to be chosen as the presidential nominee of a major party. African Americans should consider that achievment and if he should become president then bask in that glorious milestone. We as African Americans must not become hate filled and riotous if he loses but think of the victororious nature of Obama's achievement. I for one will be dissapointed if he loses because I believe he is a better choice for the country than McCain. We have had to live with an unqualified president for eight years we can't afford to have another unqualified person in that office for another four years.

As an African American I must admit that it does bother you when you hear people will not vote for Obama because of his race. I mean that is a slap in the face. I have voted for all races in my lifetime, race should not matter. I also live in FL so I understand it when people are concerned about an election being stolen. Vote against Obama because you do not believe in his policies, not because of his race.

This has got to be one of the most passive-agressive racists articles I have ever read! What Samuels is trying to do here is associate Obama's race with 'gangsta's'. 'ex-cons', 'rappers', etc. and implying that african americans might respond violently to Obama's possible loss on November 4. How insulting can this woman be to a race?
The reality is that ALL Obama supporters will be disappointed if he loses...not just blacks. All RATIONAL thinking people who have had 8 years of a corrupt and inadequate Republican administration should be up in arm if John McCain is allowed (with his idiotic choice of VP) to ruin this country for another 4 years.

This article has no good intent. There is no good that can come from an article like this. It only brings out the worse of our insecurities and fears on both sides. I am a 39 year old African American. I support Obama because he is exceedingly qualified and represents my views, so was Bill Clinton, Al Gore and all other white politician I supported. I respect most of the efforts that Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton have made in the arena of civil rights, I would not support them for President of the United States. Obama has a sensitivity for all American???s who aspire for the American dream in which he stands as a clear representation. I think the anxiety in African American relates the fear that the American Dream may be only a dream. This is many African American???s first opportunity to believe or see the dream realized. And believe it or not African Americans are very proud to see so many white Americans give Obama chance. Obama is a candidate all American's can be proud with out the filter of race.
