The author of this article is an ignorant race baiter.
I go door-to-door nearly every weekend in an affluent area of Fairfax County to gauge the sentiment of voters from every hue about how they are leaning or voting this November. I am A-A and a woman. Most of my fellow canvassers are white or from India. All but about 1 percent of my house calls are made to people who are polite, friendly and engaged in presidential politics this year.
I think Newsweek would do well to focus on the sea change we have made as a country on race relations and the pride African-Americans have for a nice American family who happens to look like them, instead of an anticipated dejection they might feel if the Obamas lose the election.
Rather, have your editors considered the psychological burden African-Americans will also have to endure, if Mr. Obama wins? Already we've seen the monkey caricatures of Obama, endured the racially-tinged jokes, and winced at the broadcast of a Hillary Clinton supporter calling him "an inadequate black man." Most African-Americans I know understand that he won the Democratic nomination thanks to a multi-racial and ethnic team that believed in him and is the collective reason for his success. But you wouldn't know that reading this article from Newsweek. In fact, the subject itself diminishes the accomplishments of a lot of proud Americans who believe in what Obama represents about our country--not just the color of his skin.
-What scares me most is that most people are just going to vote "how they always do." Just Rep. or Dem. w/out even considering the issues/truth. To them I say "You are Sheep...And they (the party) knows just how to herd you...
-Conservative/Liberal= Yin/Yang. Both are fine at cetain times, and both are vaild viewpoints. Us for our situation now, we need change and progress. And, by definition, progress/change does not and cannot come from a "conserve-ative" viewpoint.
-SOCALISM=COMMUNISM/SLAVERY?
Cause yeah, a 700mil bailout to failed businessmen isn't... Get a clue. I swear, every businessman is all anti-socialist..until THEIR business needs help. Then all of a sudden they're all for it! Hypocrites...
P.S. JESUS WAS A SOCIALIST. He didn't care about "abortion" or "Gay Marriage", those are smokesreens politicians have used to hijack Christianity for their own political purposes. It's all in MATT. 25: "Did you feed me when I was hungry? Clothe me when I was naked? Heal me when I was sick? IF NOT, DOPART FROM ME , I NEVER KNEW YOU!!! Sounds pretty socialst to me.

I can't help being disturbed by the tenor of this article. The thinking is that Obama should be elected because somehow it's a black person's turn. If not people will take to the streets? So no matter how qualified or not you think he is or if you agree with him or not on the issues somehow he should be voted in because it's a black person's turn? So if he loses if will be white America's fault? Racism in either direction is wrong. I for one will not
I am a 35 year old white woman and I will be devestated if Barack Obama does not win. (As will be the futures of all middle class and poor Americans, regardless of their race.)

There are plenty of reasons that Sen. Obama could lose besides racism. His positions on the issues are indistinguishable from Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore and John Kerry. All of them lost despite the fact that they were white males. As admirable as Sen. Obama's personal story is, if he is not selling the policies that America is buying, he will not be elected.
I love how the liberal media is inciting racism into this campaign. People aren't voting against Obama because he is black! Good Lord people! Alan Keyes or J.C. Watts (both whom are black) would make a MUCH better candidate than Barack Hussein Obama (who is HALF WHITE). People aren't voting for Obama because he does NOT represent change. You want to see your "boy" Obama at work? Then watch this video and if you have even HALF of an open mind, you'll see the light.

I am an Asian American. I support Obama/Biden. My thought is that if Obama did not win, the black community will certainly be disappointed but I don't believe they will become violent. Black people have come a long way. I know they are holding their hope for Obama with certain reservation because of what their grand fathers and great grandfaters had gone thru. Tthis shared feeling among black people will help them carry Obama's defeat with a lot more rationality than what this article has suggested.
By the way, I honestly don't believe an article like this will help in anyway. It only provokes white people to be against Obama and set a "reminder" for black people that they should get violent if Obama did not win. It's an article of nonsense!
Cain has adopted Muslim relatives in his family. Does that matter?
For the first time in history, America has a Black presidential candidate that is half white (American), half black (African), is genetically related to six former presidents, one civil war General, and even the Vice President. If Jesus was to come in the form of a black man, many white Americans would reject him as well! Even sadder, are the numbers of blacks and whites who somehow feel all that our welfare (the country as a whole) will be better in the hands of a white President. LOOK AT THE COUNTRY, BANKS, THE WORLD ECONOMY, ETC. The country, the banks, and Wall Street are all in the hands of white men! For once, let's pick a qualified President!

Good points! I am a 57 year old white woman and I could care less what color Obama is. I've listened to the debates and speeches of both candidates, and it is clear that Obama is the best one for the job. He is the most intelligent, most articulate, has the best temperament in order to deal with other countries and has made an excellent selection for vice president. On the other hand, McCain came across in the debates as exactly what he is - an old man set in his ways who refuses to listen to anyone who disagrees with him. He very nearly lost his temper in the debates a couple of times, and he has chosen an airhead for running mate who also has a history of refusing to listen to anyone who doesn't share her opinions. McCain is a loose cannon and from articles I've read by people who know Palin, she shares that characteristic. God help us if the republicans steal another election (and I believe that's the only way McCain/Palin can win as I am still idealistic enough to believe that the majority of the American people are not stupid enough to vote for him). I am surprised that Mr. Bush hasn't run this country into a complete depression, but maybe I'm speaking too soon on that as we're not rid of him yet. With McCain it will be 4 more years of Bush politics and this country cannot survive more of that.
"On the whole Negroes are simply incapable of behaving civilized" by Goldmasters
I wouldn't go so far to say a stereo typical statement like that. Doesn't mean that every African American is out there to act ignorant and run up the AIDS count. It's not my fault goldmasters hung out with crybabies who were the same race as I.
The beautiful thing abojut America is that we have the FREEDOM to hang out with whom ever. If you hang out with like minded individuals who are sucessful, chances are you'll be successful too. On the flip side if you surround your self with people who whine, who sit and watch all the news all day and bitch and act negative, chances are you'll become a stereotyping cry baby like Goldmasters. Instead of doing something about it 97% of Americans would rather sit around and whine about their problems.
Thats whats wrong with America.
It's tough watching the news and hearing these type of stories goldmasters harps on below but the bigger picture is that this election is about hope. This will probably go down as the most exciting presidential race in American History. For all obvious reasons we know of. We have an Obama/Baisden vs McCain/Palin. Hopefully people will be filling the polls in record numbers.
Being that I'm African Aemerican I went to school, educated myself and I choose who I want to hang around with. It would be so cliche to have this election be about race. It's 2008 and we as Americans need to stand tall and put this racist crap behind. We have bigger issues then race for example, our economy/global warming, banks buying banks, the gov. seizing banks. . .We all bleed red and breath oxygen.
This election offers a unique opportunity for America to show that race should not determine one's destiny. Nonetheless, the presidency is far too important to be used just as a measure of the progress of African Americans. To black supporters of Obama, I ask: what is the basis for hope in Obama's candidacy? Does his track record justify the belief that he can truly bring about the the change that he eloquently but vaguely trumpets?
AS A WHITE, MIDDLE CLASS, INDEPENDENT FEMALE, I AM ANGERED BY THIS ABSOLUTELY RACIST ARTICLE. PERSONALLY, I KNOW OF MANY, MANY WHITE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA, SIMPLY BECAUSE WE BELIEVE HE IS THE BEST ANSWER TO OUR COUNTRY'S PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME. NOT BECAUSE HE IS BLACK, HALF BLACK, HALF MUSLIM, HALF WHITE, WHITE, OR ANY OTHER ABSURD COMBINATION. THE BLACK POPULATION NEEDS TO GET THEIR RACIST HEADS OUT OF THEIR BUTTS, AND STOP DOING RACIST THINGS, LIKE VOTING FOR SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE. BLACKS ALWAYS ACCUSE THE WHITES OF BEING RACIST, BUT THEY ARE DOING THE SAME EXACT THING, BUT I GUESS THEY THINK IT'S OK. STOP CALLING OBAMA BLACK; HE IS OF MIXED RACE (HALF AFRICAN (NOT AF/AMERICAN) AND HALF WHITE. PEOPLE WHO WRITE ARTICLES LIKE THIS ARE JUST INSTIGATING WHAT IS WRONG IN THIS COUNTRY AND WHY WE CAN'T COME TOGETHER. WAKE UP PEOPLE; TIME TO PUT ASIDE THE RACIAL CRAP AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!
What an idiotic waste of time this article is. It insults black and white alike. Voting for someone just because of his color (regardless of which color it is) is foolish and racist. Assuming or implying that someone else is voting for or against someone based on color is insulting and racist. Implying that IF Obama loses it's because all white people are racists is irresponsible and immature. We're all Americans equally and we ALL want the best person for the job. Who cares what color his skin is as long as he does right by ALL of us? If Obama loses it will be because more people agree with McCain. Period. If McCain loses it will be because more people agree with Obama. Period. It's about politics, not color. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to grow up.
What blacks have to remember is that it isn't the black vote that will get Obama elected but the white vote. Without a large white vote, he isn't going to be elected.
If Obama does not win I will be devastated and floored!
He is young, highly-intelligent, highly-educated, forward-thinking, dynamic. He knows the and what to do for the benefit of the American people, domestically and world-wide. The economy is paramount, but so is WAR. He is not a war-monger. He is a cool-headed diplomat. Negotiation IS needed...not war on a turn-key. And his running mate is a well-seasoned Senator. In office with as with many years, as McCain. Both men have INTEGRITY! Good Character.
McCain is old, but that is not a reason not to vote for him. However, McCain has a serious form of cancer, Melanoma. He has had it for many years, but this cancer becomes very aggressive in the elderly. He is visibly worn out and more confused than ever. It is as if he has age-related conditions. And his mental health is more than questionable. This man is a disaster. NOT a disaster-waiting-to happen. That belongs to Sarah Palin!
It is almost a given that if McCain wins he will not live to complete his term. Aside from Palin not knowing how government works, she is has a back-woods, low-grade mentality and intelligence. She talks circles around an issue or question, i.e., gibberish. Conservative to the MAX! I am shamed at McCain for having her as a running mate. What does HE care for the country by choosing this woman!! He only cares to be President, no-matter-what. It is his mental disorder. Yes it is!! Many want to be President of the United States, and qualified. McCain is NOT qualified and to win is his obsessive, borderline/narcissistic personality disorder. He needs to fulfill what he could not in the Navy as his father, the ADMIRAL did. He is real a real damaged man. Just look at his anger...his rage, kept under wraps for the election, of course. And there is more. There is a reason he will not give out his medical records as politicians running for office do!
If Obama does NOT win, it will be a catastrophe for America. And yes, I do believe under-handed means can be in place to make try to have him not win. It has happened too many times before.
I am shamed of America, voting for a bimbo with a pretty face. And a bimbo without decency or conscience. Without experience. And she states she "will change Washington, DC!?" Talk of grandiosity! And be sure she does not only mean changing our government for the better of the people. She truly means what she says: "Shakin & Fixin." She speaks like a Dictator wanna-be. Mrs. Palin is a shame on all American women! She has already set woman back by more than decades.
I do have confidence that Obama will be the next President of the United States. I still have confidence in the ability of voting Americans to reality.
I am a woman and I am a white. Sad that I needed to identify myself as "white," for I do not differentiate people according to race or color.
Thank you.
My comment is to dawnNY. You wrote"I am a woman and I am a white. Sad that I needed to identify myself as "white," for I do not differentiate people according to race or color".
Its to bad that all the black americans you side with, about obama, DO differentiate the fact that their color is the reason they're voting for the man!
Blacks need to ask themselves what a man such as Obama, who has had a well documented, long standing, close frendship with the likes of hater and racist Louis Farakhan can possibly do for them or for the rest of America, for that matter. Obama is a gifted orator, but you will know more about him by the company with which he has surrounded himself (Farakhan, Ayers, Wright ad nauseum) than you ever will by his smooth rhetoric.
How can people think it is not fair if Obama loses? "OH NO! WHATEVER WILL WE DO IF OBAMA LOSES!" I have no problem with a black man being president. Just not THAT man. I have said the same thing about a woman president. Just not THAT woman (Hillary). Stop saying that America is racist if it does not want a liberal do-nothing with socialist leanings running the country. Obama is not the new MLK, he is the new Walter Mondale, the new Michael Dukakis, the new John Kerry. We will not be bullied into voting for him.
many (most?) blacks are stuck in their own racist mindset...would you vote for him if he were Asian or Indian or...white? Look at what he believes! He is the most ardent supporter of black genocide via abortion. Who is the racist?
McCain is a WAR HERO. He will win. I can guarantee you if Barack was a war hero instead he would win. Also, regardless if all black voters get out and vote, they are ONLY 11% of the country.
