I do agree with steven627 about making an informed decision. While I certainly don't believe that the Republican Party is pure evil, I also don't believe that the Democratic Party is evil either. I just hope that more Obama supporters make their decisions in a similar manner as steven627; it will kill me if Obama wins because of uniformed voters.

I lean Republican most of the time, especially on economic issues. I intend on voting for John McCain. The reason I would not vote for Barack Obama is his set of political beliefs. His race does not influence my decision in the least. He is by far the one of the most liberal members of Congress, and that is the sole reason I will not vote for him. I would certainly support any candidate regardless of race if I shared his or her beliefs, but too many people seem to have jumped on the Obama bandwagon without being truly versed on the issues at hand. It has become the "cool" thing to do to support Obama; I have seen countless people wearing Obama t-shirts, and I think many Obama supporters do so solely because they identify with him based on race. I wish the American public would make the smart, informed decision and decide on a president based on policy alone.

You know, for a bunch of people who want to be treated equally, and who jump at any vague comment in retorts that it racist you have in fact become the racist's yourself.
Would you say its racist if a white person votes for McCain because he is white? I can imagine the answer is most definatly yes.
So then how come it's not racist to say you're going to vote for Obama because he is the same color you are?
I personally believe there is NO difference whatsoever between a black person and a white person. I also believe that everyone no matter what they look like has the inalienable right to be treated with equality. The key word there is equal, not more not less. The same standards should apply to everyone, the same consequences, the same oppertunities. These oppertunities should not be mandated by law to favor one side or the other, because that is showing a seperation and fundamentally changing the balance of equality. This is the message Dr. King was spreading, not one of entitlement, but one of equality.
I guess because I'm younger I don't see race as an issue as much as an older person would. The point is that if he is qualified then he should have an equal chance of winning the election as anyone else, to claim that it takes your hope away because he's the same color as you makes you the racist.

Hey, I'm black, and I support Obama. But that wasn't always the case. For the first three-quarters of the primaries, I was a Hillary supporter. But as I listened to Obama, I became more and more impressed with what I saw and heard, and I now support him wholeheartedly. Not because he's black, but because I believe that he's the very best guy in the race. And, at the end of the day, shouldn't that really be the reason ANYONE votes for ANYONE?
Look, I know there are a lot of voters out there that will make their decisions based purely on race. Every single one of them is making a mistake. A white president is perfectly capable of driving this great country into a ditch. But for me, the kicker is that I really don't believe Colin Powell could have done any better. Maybe his motives may have been purer, but he IS a Republican, and I think the current incarnation of the Republican party is as close to pure evil as I've ever seen, and THAT is why I'm voting for the Democrat. In this election, the Democrat just happens to be black.
Now if you agree or disagree with my views (Republican = evil, Bush policies have been disastrous, US standing in the worldview severely tarnished, Yes we need to talk with our enemies, etc) then that is the basis of a healthy, productive, and respectful debate. That's good for America. But please, folks on both sides, let's do what at least one of the presidential candidates is asking... let's keep this about the ISSUES.

Here's a thought... If Obama does win, the expectations will be unimaginable. The first black "anything" simply has to perform at near superhuman levels, or it's not just failure, but "I-told-you-so disastrous". So if he's unfortunate enough to win the job of fixing the mess he'll inherit, he damn well better balance the budget end the wars with decisive victory, find, castrate, stuff, and mount Osama bin Laden, reduce unemployment, get gas under $1 a gallon, clean up thei global warming thingy, and eliminate the notion of taxes. And in his secong week as President...

    re: A real American

I noticed your examples of what black America has dealt with is based off of the year 1960 a before. I would like to educate you on how your race has been held back since 1960 and as recernt as the 2000's.

Over the last 45 years their has been a REPORTED 25 million blk on wht crime.
    Imagine the numbers including unreported,

10,000 cases of blk on wht GANG RAPE from 2001 -2003
0 cases of wht on blk GANG RAPE

15,400 blk on wht individual rapes per yr from 2003-2001
900 wht on blk rapes per year same timeframe

1.9 million blk on white crime in 2002 ALONE versus
360 wht on blk crime (note) whites have 4x's the population

And the kicker I know you love the most.............

7 yr period 1995-2002 Murder rate of black on whites is roughly the same as the troop death in IRAQ WAR!

Seems if it was so hard being blk these days, you could provide some examples a tad more recent then 50-60 yrs ago.
But please, do tell us about what was happening 400 yrs ago again......

Angry convervative posters: Do me, yourself and the GOP Party a favor: Put just half the effort that you put into bashing Obama and the Democrats into praising the real values of the Republican Party and it's ticket if you want to get McCain elected. All of this peurile and acrimonious name calling and outright antagonization is not helping our cause, makes the conservative base look childish, unintelligent, frightened and self serving. It turns off Independent voters and so basically serves the Dem's interests. I'm sure you are venting, but it's NOT helping us.

Given the number of blacks who are not supporting Obama, I think the black community will do just fine. Of course, some organizations such as ACORN will be very upset since their un American practices will have been uncovered. ACORN threatens people by their mafia type tactics - showing up unwanted at meetings and threatening the attendees. Registering cats and dead people. Such organizations will call foul.

In response to comments from dougharr:
The African American community will do just fine if Senator Obama does not win. As a race, we have endured slavery, racism, murder, terrorism, and other dispicable treatment from our fellow americans. We have never had an African American President and have no reason riot. On the other hand, I believe whites will be the ones rioting if Senator Obama wins since many feel they are superior to all other human beings and would feel ashamed of being led by people of color. As far as the comment about Afro Americans being forced to get off welfare if Senator Obama wins. Well, everyone who is on welfare, including corporate america and other nations, should get out of taxpayers pockets as soon as possible. But since more whites are on welfare than African Americans maybe you should be telling them to get off welfare because "all" american presidents have been white. Your standard not mine!

If Obama Looses, we will wittness riots unlike none in the History of the United States of America.
On the other hand, should Obama win, the Afro American Community will be forced to get off Welfare. This could cause Obama the Black and Hispanic vote.

Win or loose, there will be opposition by the Black and Hispanic Communities.

In response to An American Male's comment,
I would question your perception of reality as I note the obvious hatred you have in your heart. I feel sorry for you. You are truly troubled if you need someone to hate to feel better about yourself. I have served this country for 22 years and have witnessed firsthand the racism that exists in this country against all people of color, not just blacks. I was personally discriminated against even as my father, who served in the military for 26 years, fought in Vietnam for this country. It is still happening to this day. I am not bitter. I just understand that many Americans who are racist are falling short or are not interested in helping this country to be a truly great nation. No nation can achieve greatness or maintain it by excluding its citizens, or by judging its citizens by a different standard....only failed nations do that! I still remember growing up listening to whites in this country spewing propaganda about what blacks in particular could not do...ie.not intelligent enough to play quarterback, not smart enough to run a business, not coordinated or too heavy to swim, not smart enough to coach. Bottom line, today and after all the hateful propaganda directed against people of color, we have blacks and all people of color as lawyers, businessmen, teachers, police officers, judges, Olympic champions (swimming too!), and people of color who can run for president...and you should notice that blacks have voted for both white and black candidates for public office. Instead of attacking people of color for supporting Senator Obama, maybe you should ask yourself, honestly, why is John McCain able to run for president? You know, the John McCain who was implicated in the Keating 5 Savings and Loan Scandal that cost the U.S tax payers billions of dollars, the John McCain who "palled around with" Watergate burglar G Gordon Liddy, who advocates murdering federal agents? The John McCain who picked a running mate who is under investigation for ethics violations (found guilty!) and ???pals around" with members of the Alaska Independence Party (her husband is a member) who wants to break away from the United States and remove a star from our flag? You know, the John McCain who lied to the American public about Iraq and how Gen Petraeus was traveling around in unarmored humvees. I could go on but I won't. The point is...America.. Let???s be honest and fair with each other and work together to make this nation great for all of us. ???A Real American"

This is a reply to the comment posted by sufilover7001 and other avid Obama supporters. First of all Obama wouldn't even be a part of this election if he was white. The only reason he is there is because he is black. Yes, he is an elegant speaker. I will give him that, but he is now having to denounce almost everyone within his life. Including, but not limited to racist preachers and terrorists to their own country. Bottom line is that he is an inexperienced, shady senator who was given an enormous amount of money by Oprah, along with a national platform on her show. The only reason the black people are voting for him is because he is black. The black people of this country are the racist ones! Not the whites. This is becoming a bigger and bigger discussion in the white communities and more and more people are becoming sick and tired of being condemned by the blacks of this nation. If a gangster politician from Chicago with ties to racist terrorists becomes president of the United States, the United States is nothing more than a failed nation.

Contrary to what this skewed article presents, (it is true that all African Americans do not think alike), African Americans will not riot or do anything to frighten white people out of their safety zones. If McCain wins, the majority of us will go on accepting the status quo and we will again realize that if one is an American with an African racial background, it matters not how hard they work in obtaining their education or how hard they work in becoming successful in their career. Obama has done everything that he can possibly do in jumping over all the hoops of America???s fears and still, it does not matter. America will choose Palin (yes, it is possible she could become president) over Obama because it is far better to feel safe in the so-called value of whiteness than to risk the unknown. This means that the real issues in this presidential race are related to American psychological and sociological dysfunction.
It is quite ironic that African Americans have always voted for a white candidate without any fear whatsoever. It is also quite interesting that if Obama were white, we simply wouldn???t be talking about this article and the polls would have shown a landslide in his favor by now. Deep down inside you know this to be true. America needs to deal with its unconscious fears about race in this country, recognize how powerful people play on those fears, and honestly look closely at feelings of insecurity and racial fears that have been rooted in American society since slavery. Until that happens, the rest of the world will continue to laugh at America???s childish behavior, and condemn America???s mental illness and ignorance. This is what African Americans really know and what the article does not state.
