The Way It Is - Bruce Hornsby
Standing in line marking time, waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by as he catches the poor ladies' eyes
Just for fun he says "get a job"

    chorus
That's just the way it is
    Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
Ah, but don't you believe them

They say hey little boy you can't go where the others go
'Cause you don't look like they do
Said hey old man how can you stand to think that way
Did you really think about it before you made the rules
    He said, Son

    chorus
That's just the way it is
    Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
Ah, but don't you believe them
    solo

Well they passed a law in '64 to give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
Because the law don't change another's mind when all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar

    chorus
That's just the way it is
    Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
Ah, but don't you believe them

I am voting for Barack Obama because of what he is. He is a man of honor, intelligence, confidence, and cool under pressure. I love to hear this brilliant man speak in such an eloquent manner. I love to see his love and warmth with his wife and family. His running mate has many years of government experience and is a good family man.

I will not be voting for McCain because he is a hot headed, arrogant, womanizer, with a questionable past (Keating 5). I find his interactions with his wife cold and forced. His running mate is very narrow minded and completely lost and over her head trying to win the vp spot. I am even embarrassed for her. I am tired of being embarrassed by the leader of the country I love and don't want to continue to be in the next 4 years.

The Democrats and I share the same opinions on many issues. This is why I am voting for Barack Obama and the only reasons! The color of ones skin does not matter to me one iota!

I agree with onerdrfan. This just shows how racist black and Latino people really are and how they really feel about white people. It's scary to me that gang members and ex-cons are voting and let's face it, the majority of these people are the ones that have committed more crimes against there own race. If you want to talk about "white collar" crimes, there are plenty of unethical black and Latina politicians and unethical black and Latinos that are part of this financial mess right up with there with the unethical greedy whites. To also have protests if Obama doesn't when? Are we a Third World Country that protests? In our democracy the majority rules, and all the protesting will not change that. It will only show how divided by race we really are. I have also read comments about the war and how much money and lives it has cost, but not one of these comments talk about how Obama wants more troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan. How many lives will be lost in those places, and how much money will that cost? He also says that we are not well liked in other countries because of the way the US went into Iraq, and I agree with that, but does he think we will be any more popular and liked if we go into these two countries? Russia, China, North Korea, Valenzuela, Iran to name a few are showing their aggression to the US and I am not going to vote for Obama just because he is black. If you are voting for Obama because of his skin color then this country is in really bad shape. Let's not forget people, Obama is half white. I am a Latina women and I am voting for McCain.

I happen to be white...& I guess color blind because, I, too am scared if Obama does not win. McCain & Palin are just too scary, but Obama is exactly what we ALL need in a president. Can't we forget color just this once??

Last time I checked, there were quite a few Asians in this country....

I guess this must mean they don't have anyone to vote for in this election, given the absence of an Asian-American candidate.

Don't they have a right to be "really mad" about this?

Caucasians would never be so racist as to vote for someone by a greater than 90% margin simply based on race, like the black community is. The fact that he is half Kenyan and grew up priveleged shows he shares nothing with the black community, but black Americans don't care. The venom toward Sarah Palin (and Hillary before her) is like that shown against another white woman murdered by OJ Simpson, while the black communtiy defended him as one of their own. Shame on black Americans to push this unvetted young inexperienced candidate out there before his time for naive and selfish, even racist reasons.

They said the same thing about Bill Clinton: he's too young and inexperienced and look what the result was. This country was in a surplus when he left and now we're in a mess and you want to blame Clinton and Black America for this mess. Look at who's in the White House and where this country is now. You can't blame Clinton for that.

Wake up you stupid ignorant people. I'm amazed how the democrats think it is their God given right to win every election and every decision. When they loose, the election is considered "stolen" or a "mistake". If the Supreme Court rules opposite their belief , it is the "wrong decision". The democrats are free choice, but only if that choice is to abort. The democrats are for women's right's, but only if you if you share the same belief. The democrats are for civil rights., but if your black in a Republican Administration, you're a "house ni@#$er".

If you ever wonder why many americans fight so hard to carry a gun. It's the fear that the democrats will take over and strip us of every right but the one to agree with them 100%.

I'm not voting for Obama because I think he lacks the experience and the conviction to be President at this time. Maybe in another 8 years when he has shown to be leader and not a follower in the Senate. When he is willing to stand up and have his voiced heard first before deciding which way the wind blow. When the company he keeps doesn't include financial fatcats that rape the finacial markets and radicals. When he has a solid record of long-term fiscal responsibility and a well documented voting record.

I personally would like to see the newsmedia stop trying to start a fire so to speak. Race should NEVER come into any election. What? Are women suppose to riot because a woman isn't going to get into the highest office of the land? Seem's also the media forgets that Obama is not African American, he's American and like most in the US he is made up of more than one ethnic group. He can easily be called Caucasian. Therefore in theory he will not be the 1st African American in office, he will be an American who happens to have a father who was from Kenya. Since the news media has not researched every President since Washington family heritage what real proof do they have that he will be the first to have African blood? None!

Two-party system = system of CONTROL and OPPRESSION. Do the USA a favor and remove yourself from this monarchic system via non-involvement i.e. DON'T VOTE.+

    Proportional representation NOW.

Hey Joshy, read what Ischumacker wrote! Race is completely irrelevant to me and most americans, I think Clarence Thomas is a great Supreme Court Justice because he shares my values. I will vote for McCain because Obama does not. It sounds like people such as you are the haters!

my my my how this country has changed. wake up people for crying out loud. I am a democrat however i would never sit here and say I will vote for obama. what every american needs to do is consider this. To be President is nothing more than getting hired to do a job. so when you hire someone for a job you base that on what? Experience. whether you people believe it or not the person that is elected had better have the experience that is needed in this world to protect this country. wall street and high paying ceo's is to blame for the market and you know what just like before the government will take care of it and all will resume as usual in a few months. we can handle that. but.........can each one of you handle russia invading the us or iran destroyin countries with nuclear weapons can each of you handle another 911 all because you voted on a job for this country based on color of the skin an lack of experience to do the job. you each had better take a real hard look behind the wall street fiasco and look at the world in which we live today is it more important to you to stay alive and ur children r safe or is it more important you elect someone becuz their skin is white or black whether they have the ability and the experience to protect ur butts .

Typical, conspiracy, racisim as the only possible reason why Mr. Obama could lose. Typical of the left and the politics of race that they work so well. I suspect that just as many people will vote for Mr. Obama because he is half black as will vote against him for the same reason. Is either group any more or less biased? However; I suppose that the author of this article will explain that those black people who voted for him based on Mr. Obama's race were only doing so out of hope.

Just another 'Whine if I don't get my way' article from the liberal media based Newsweek rag. The real question is; If he doesn't get elected, Why? Probably because he's a Socialist that refuses to lead with any 'Real" decisions, because he doesn't want to offend anyone. Couldn't even get involved in the Bank Bailout. Had to let McCain take the lead. Obama's a very bright guy, but great ideas and a good orator don't make a great leader. Good start though.

  • Posted By: johnc @ 09/28/2008 1:44:29 PM

If he loses it is not the white mans fault it is the fault of those who did not vote for him. It will be because the majority of America decided that the other man was better for the job. No one should vote because he is black or white. What if both were black???? or white???? or jewish or islamic. The race card certainly should never be payed in this situation but looks like that is how it will be.

Ryan go back to the school of hard nocks and learn something. Study the Qu'ran and learn about the religion that vows to annihlate western civilization. If the words Qu'Ran, Muslim is associated with a person running for the highest office in the country, then that person should be disqualified from running. Color has nothing to do with why people are not voting for him, its his lack of patriotism, political record which lacks conviction.

By the way, would everyone stop calling each and every black African American. I have an African American friend and he is white. Everyone does not call me a Norwegian American. Our strive political correctness is an inference that we know everyones nationality. White or Black should be just fine.

While I do think it would be especially hard on many in the black communities to see such a hope slip through their fingers. There has just been so much hype about Obama it's hard not to get a real gut-wrenching feeling hearing there might be a possiblity he could lose. Howerver most black people I know will take it in stride.

After the initial anger from disappointment fades, sanity would take over and they'd realize what an amazing thing has occured - even if the first black candidate EVER to run for President should lose - he did run. AND - as Scarlett said after it looked like all was lost and she had lost Rhett - 'TOMORROW is ANOTHER DAY!' Obama has paved the way and been a great energizer for blacks - especially young black men and others of color to become involved in running for office of all kinds..

No - don't expect our strong American black bros and sises to go in the tank emotionally for long. There won't be riots - they've been charged with some real dignity now and will conduct themselves accordingly. They'll do it for Barack.

Wait a minute! I am black and will not be voting for Obama. I have listen to Obama and do not like what I am hearing from him. He is too liberal. I have made some enemies in the black community for stating that I am not be voting for Obama and I am OK with it. I do not think that it is a question of entitlement but most of my black friends think that they have to vote for Obama because they have to support a "CAUSE". I think that attitude is a racist attitude. I am not voting for the person that I think is the most eloquent. This is not a american idols. We are voting for somebody to hold the higher office. Thus I have to put my Country first, because I am an American first. I am very offended by this posting. So why Obama does win? He is the most liberal in the Senate. He want to raise taxes on small business whose owners cannot already afford to pay taxes as it is now. He is all talk and no solution. He is only good about inciting class welfare, he deals with cons (Rezko), terrorists (Ayer). He wants change but demand tax -payers over 1million dollars a day on frivole spending to help his lobbysts. He and his senators friends Dodd and Frank got the most money from Fannie Mae CEO who in fact is one of his top financial advisors. Thus he is much at fault for Wall Street meltdown. They got pay to close their eyes and guess what they did allow their CEO friend to steal 90 millions from us tax-payer. Even after the melt down his senator friends want to add provisions in the so call bailout to allocate more money to their friends in for low income mortgage which got us to that mess in the first place. Obama has yet to rekease his medical record, his birth certificate, and his thesis from Havard bashing the US. Finally, I still question Obama patriotism and do not trust him in the Oval Office. In my opinion, he cannot protect us. He is more worry about given rights to terrosits, he is more worry about America's image in the world. I do not trust someone that has to apologize to other country for the US. He is weak and only care about his image. We need courage in a president and the only man in this race with courage is John McCain. So you see, they are many reasons why Barack Hussein Obama should not win regardless of his race. To say that he is entitled to win in November because he is BLACK is a DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to get the fact. It okay that your black and not voting for Obama you have that right however let me educate you on a few things.Tony Rezko got "political favors" including "$14 million from taxpayers." But there's no evidence of any connection to the Obama home purchase. The $14 million was to build apartments for low-income seniors. Obama wrote a letter supporting the "worthy" project, but both men say Rezko didn't ask for the letter. Obama was born at 7:24 p.m. Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu. http://cdn.factcheck.org/imagefiles/Ask%20FactCheck%20Images/Obama%20Birth%20Certificate/BO%20Birth%20Certificate.jpg Ayers I not going to even go their with you.

Racial prejudice is not just a "white" thing... it crosses all lines and is no respecter of persons. I am a half Jewish anglo-american who just got off the phone with one of my best friends - a Black American. I can feel the racial tension growing in this... I read that if Obama looses, it's a slap in the Black man's face... What about what he believes? What about the inexperience of this pseudo-messiah. Let's forget about race. Let's make everybody neutral in color and cut to the chase of what they believe. Neither candidate is a great choice, but one will win. If McCain looses, will this be a slap in the white man's face? Will this be a slap in the face of those over the age of 60? Why do we dumb ourselves down. I'm reading about ex-criminals who now suddenly find a need to vote for their black brother... as if he's a savior. He's not! There is more shady with Mr' Obama than not. It's scripted and in all honesty, maybe one of the most extreme cases of charismatic deception this country has ever seen. We are treading in very dangerous waters.... but to make this a "racial" issue which could lead to potential extremism with a loss for Mr. Obama... is dangerous, and potentially destructive. Beware and forewarned... this is not about color... but about truth and lies. Passion belies reason... Propagating and promoting such things as we read above is insidious.
