So from this article I guess Obama deserves to be elected because he is black? I smell racism at its worst. I have 5 black children so don't preach to me about fairness and racism.....but race is not what would make Obama a good president nor would it be a victory for the black culture.

Racial prejudice is not just a "white" thing... it crosses all lines and is no respecter of persons. I am a half Jewish anglo-american who just got off the phone with one of my best friends - a Black American. I can feel the racial tension growing in this... I read that if Obama looses, it's a slap in the Black man's face... What about what he believes? What about the inexperience of this pseudo-messiah. Let's forget about race. Let's make everybody neutral in color and cut to the chase of what they believe. Neither candidate is a great choice, but one will win. If McCain looses, will this be a slap in the white man's face? Will this be a slap in the face of those over the age of 60? Why do we dumb ourselves down. I'm reading about ex-criminals who now suddenly find a need to vote for their black brother... as if he's a savior. He's not! There is more shady with Mr' Obama than not. It's scripted and in all honesty, maybe one of the most extreme cases of charismatic deception this country has ever seen. We are treading in very dangerous waters.... but to make this a "racial" issue which could lead to potential extremism with a loss for Mr. Obama... is dangerous, and potentially destructive. Beware and forewarned... this is not about color... but about truth and lies. Passion belies reason... Propagating and promoting such things as we read above is insidious.

The way Bush and his cronies have made such a mess in these United States of America, we all should ask ourselves one question. *Who in their right mind would want to become President and inherit such a mess?"
John Mc Cain? Here is a man who stated years ago "I just want to be president just to say I have been." Here is a man who lies more than 85% of the time when he opens his mouth concerning politics. Here is a man that barks about what he has done to serve his country and of his prisoner of war days. Here is a man who claims to be a Maverick ( 24 years with unseen changes and this mess that we are presently in).

Barrack Obama? Here is a man who is of the opinion that he can make a change and put this country back on track to "Respect " and "Honor," while helping to make the normal family feel as through they and their children can live. Here is a man with a vision of all people living in harmony and peace. Here is a man who is well educated and truly cares about all people. I can without a doubt say if he was not biracial and a european white man, he would be favored in this election by a margin of over 80%. America should be tired of the last 8yrs and of this economy, but I am willing to bet you that a lot of "white people" would rather starve and be broke before they will vote for Obama (and by the way I have heard all of my life that one drop of black blood makes you black in the white person's eyes). I just want to say that John McCain my be a hero to a lot of you, but a hero to me is not someone who gets himself captured and sells his soul, My idea of heroes in any War are people that gave their lives, limbs and made a difference in that conflict, as did my brother and several of my friends and many other Americans. John Mccain is not the only person who has been to war, and that certainly does not qualify him to run this country because he was captured. What is will be, but people if we don't choose wisely we will heap more havoc on ourselves. Forget about whose the hero and whose not, what race he is or not.whose a democrat or republican. Think about your childs future, your remaining time on this earth and are you better off today, than you were 8yrs ago. Do we really want change or do we want more of the same.

I mean, honestly, why does black America continue to play the race card. Racism is all but dead and the only thing keeping it alive is our prejudice toward white people. I know what it is like to be descriminated against. I grew up in the 60's as a young black man. But the truth of the matter is that the entire issue of racism is only being kept alive by those of us who think that the government (or white man), we seem to use those words interchangably owes us something and therefore are too lazy to get out there and live the American dream. And as for the celebrities, the mere fact that they were able to achieve what they did in their career is a testament to the fall of racism. Think about that the next time you open your mouth.

First of all: I am not black nor do I care what color a person is;. Obama stands for my ideals. Yes, I am concerned about foul play, which happend when our now fearless leader was put into the presidents seat. If Obama does not get elected I feel there will be a major outcry from many people, including myself. We are all citizens of the United States. Let us cast our vote and be counted. Elizabeth

THE ELECTION IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT RACE!!! BUT ABOUT QUALIFICATION!!
    Obama is not EXPERIENCED ENOUGH!!!

veteran...he is far more in tune and educated to the woes the middle and lower class have suffered through.
I am ridding selfishness, greed, super power and supremacy, and ignorance by voting Obama.
You and the country will be better for it and I won't come back at you and say I told you so!

There is no debate or grey area here, everyone needs to get over it and admit that "HYPEN" anything or "BLACK" anything is wrong.... end of lesson.
    African-American = Wrong
    Black Liberation Church = Wrong
    Get it?
We are Americans, we come 1st before any other country including our Allies.
We believe in God, Judeo-Christian values... ALL OTHERS NEED NOT APPLY, there are other places in this world for you... NOT HERE.
God does not care if you are BLACK... stop making this about being BLACK!!!!

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 1:39:49 PM

What a backwoods racist. African-American is the preferred term because it is more descriptive and has less of a negative conotation. People no longer use "colored" or "negro." It just makes sense. Also, where do you get that in order to be a good American you must believe in God and have Judeo-Christian values. This may come as a surprise, but NO WHERE in the Constitution are the words "God" "Christian" "Christianiy" or "Judeo-Christian" mentioned. What is mentioned is "Congress shall make NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHED RELIGION."

What is White America afraid of?. You read these comments and all you hear if fear. The colser Obama gets to winning the Presidency the more you hear talk of race and guns and assination. Black folk have learned the lessons of hundred of years of opression in America. We are not interested in enslaving or opressing anybody.
As black people continue to work hard, often times without just recognition or reward we would continue to find our rightful places in society. Let them continue to call us lazy, violent and complaining because white folk are not lazy, not violent, and never complain.

"He managed to take us to the brink of bankruptcy in just 8 short years" Sorry, Ryan01976, but our financial meltdown was brought to you care of the Democratic Party, with Bill Clinton and civil rights activists starting the sub-prime real estate market in the 1990's, and then Schumer, Dodd, and Frank in Congress protecting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from reform by Republicans so that those institutions could be looted by the likes of Franklin Raines. You must be a masochist if you want even more of the donkey party in power.

This emphasis on race in America is sickening. It is a disgrace. Wonder If Christ was around what He would say>. Polling has to be monitored by police that is nt prejudiced. Only God can save us from racist propaganda.. It is spiritual bakruptcy that breeds the idea of race being more significant than spiritual and meritorious assets. God is neither black or white. God disd make a blunder to trust humans to be fair to each other. God should have painted everyone green.

Seriously if Obama loses America loses more than Obama . This country will go further into decay if led by the same rules as it has been led for several years except there was some fairness when Bill Clinton was the president.

Ahhh... so if the FIRST black nominee in a race for president doesn't get eleceted... we have to worry about the consequences? What about the FIRST woman nominee for vice-president - no consequences there to worry about? hmmmm Just because a person is a first of anything... doesn't make him the presumptive winner... (even if the press is treating him that way)... and loosing an election happens to some one EVERY time...

I agree that the Obamas are smart and articulate; but they do not share my values. He is an economic and technical iliterate (not to mention a principal in this financial melt-down and bailout a la Franklin Raines (among others)). She is a Marxist. Given their associations with the likes of Rev. Wright and Wiliam Ayres, I cannot for the life of me vote for the man.

    To gareyb:
Why are you calling people white idiots? This is the kind of behavior that will cause people not to vote for Obama, afterall he did attend a hate teaching church for twenty years. I have white friends and black friends and hate no one. You should consider retracting you're very racist comments.

  • Posted By: Khadija @ 09/28/2008 1:38:32 PM

FLY ICHARUS, FLY!!! Obama will lose, that we can be sure of. No matter how many black people go out to vote, there are not enough of us to change the color of the talking head on top of the suit that gives the State of the Union Address. Ask a white democrat if they will vote for him and to your face they will say yes, but when they get in that booth "*** about it" no freakin way. I hate to burst your bubble, but this is still a racist country, and we have got to deal with that.

  • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/28/2008 1:38:32 PM

To everyone "outraged" because black people are voting for Obama in record numbers -

Do you think white people aren't doing the EXACT same thing? That polls said something like 20% of white voters can't bring themselves to vote for a black man?

  • Posted By: travellin111 @ 09/28/2008 1:38:00 PM

Isn't it a shame if Obama loses. It won't necessarily, because of rascism, shady dealings or whatever. You know what almost every election I vote in. The person, I vote for loses. It is because majority rules. Get used to it. This is how government works. If you can't deal with it. Keep getting your news from the TV. You get out of it, what you put in. It is a lot like school or work.

  • Posted By: blissbitten333 @ 09/28/2008 1:37:30 PM

menglish...Barak was addressing the mediator. If you want to bring up rudeness, how is it that you don't acknowledge the rudeness of McCain - who didn't look at Obama AT ALL, even when directed to do so by the mediator. Just wondering....
and "black brother talk"? Really? You are a painful example of a racist American still in the dark ages. If a black man (who you point out is only a fraction of the race they claim themselves to be) calling somebody Tom shows that they have a chip on their shoulder, I can only imagine all of the other great ideas knocking around in your little head might be. Do the world a favor, and don't have kids, ok? Please! Before you try any of your racist bullshit on me , I am a very white, very intelligent woman.

  • Posted By: joenorris @ 09/28/2008 1:37:23 PM

Let's turn the argument around. What if McCain wins? Oh, that' just racist. With black people voting for Obama 97 -1, that's NOT racist? What if white people voted for McCain 97-1. The black community would be up in arms about white racism. The real story is. "Why are so many white people voting for a black man?" The answer of course from whites is "because race doesn't matter to us." Unfortunately, is matters to most blacks and the Democrats and liberal media continue to drive the wedge between the races. Turn your arguments around and see how silly you look.

This article expresses what I fear our presidential race has become - just that - race. Surely there are still individuals who carefully consider the issues each candidate represents and not just the color of his/her skin. If not, then we really are in a crisis. I resent deeply not being allowed to make my choice based on issues important to me without having to submit to a title of "racist". Surely those who choose to vote for Obama are not voting for him simply because of his color. I refuse to consider color, sex, religion, accent or age when selecting the President for this nation. Until we start doing just that as individuals we will remain a "house divided" by discrimination of every sort.
