Race is not going to be a big factor if any. If Obama loses it will be to the fact he lacks experience. Yes, he is likable, but I don't consider the presidents to be our friends. It scares me to know that so many countries our rising up to power again. We need someone who has the experience to control it. If Obama gets elected the Congress and Senate will not respect him at all. He'll be a deadfish in the water. It saddens me to know that both parties have agreed that they will not be able to fix this economy. Wake up and listen people...we have some ruff times ahead. Here's my advice America! Work hard and if you can't work, pray hard and if you can't pray go fishing......

I am a white man and I took the time to read this article and I will vote for Barak Obama. Maybe it's not just black people. My sister is Korean and she wears an Obama tee-shirt. Maybe you have more friends than you realize. Maybe he will win.

I support Senator Obama because he represents, hopefully, a brighter future for this country than the last 8 years of complete misery brought about by President Bush and his administratioon. I don't care about the color of his skin. I know race plays a large part in how a person is viewed in this country. It makes me feel very sad this is so. As I grow older I now understand more and more just how foolish and irrational racism is. I hope someday people of all races will just think of themselves and others as human beings deserving of respect.

I cant believe that you all would put any credit into a left-wing drive by media article like this. I find extream irritation in the implication that republicans and whites would cheat to keep Obama from winning office. I work in inner city Cleveland and day after day after day, I witness impressionable young black americans out soliciting people to register to vote. Hurray for them.....till the truth really comes out. As one solicited me. Are you a Obama support. Yes I replied....even though I am not. One would get shot in Cleveland stating otherwise. Are you registered to vote? Yes again I replied. Been registered since I was old enough. Well what if I told you that we would pay you to register again, perhaps under another name, so that you can help us insure Obama makes it to office. Hmmmm I replied. Dont think so get out of my business and dont ever come back. This has happened on three seperate occasions over the past two weeks. So I dont want to hear some garbage about how if Obama looses its because of Repulicans and whites cheating the system. I have yet to be approched by anyone getting me to vote multiple times. So if Obama looses then to me its obvious America did not trust his plans for a greater america. If he wins.....then all I can do is wonder the what if. The what if people didnt vote multiple times. All I can say is that this election will represent a sad day in America when the system truely fails.

I am American. I can name 5 countries I have heritage from but I am 5th generation American. This is my heritage. I have a problem with putting people in a catagory. I work for the army and even the army of all people have gotten past don't ask don't tell after generations of throwing people out of the service. I think we can and are on our way to getting through racism as well but it will take some forgiveness from both sides. When people are smart enough to know that a person of another race does not judge or present a threat to you I believe we have taken one step forward. We are all human beings and have more in common that our differences. We all want the same things. To live in peace and to have the american dream for ourselves and for our children. I think the biggest threat we have now is ignorance. We must educate our people and no one can be throw away.
I honestly would like to see the Dem and Rep work together this time. God knows there is enough of a mess to clean up. We can't blame Bush for all of it and I am grateful my family is safe tonight for Bush. I just think it is a time where it is going to take all the opinions to make a reasonable decision about what is best for the country. I like Obama because he listens but he scares me with some of his lack of experience. He wants to make all these changes that will cost money in a time that we need restraint. I like McCain when he says to freeze govt spending until we can figure out what can be cut. I also like the fact that he is willing to tap into these funds we have been sending to other countries just to keep the peace. Its time to stop bribing people they have more to loose if our economy fails then we do.
I don't like McCain because sometimes he seems like he is out of step with the rest of the country.

Dem and Rep its time to be humans and do the right thing for the people of this great country. I am tired of hearing the back and forth sniping. Lets hear some real issues. I want to know what the real differences are.
My husband lost his job in January. My property taxes went up 25 % but my home value went down 25 %. I need help not more taxes. I don't want a handout I want jobs to be created.
My motto is your either the steam roller or part of the pavement so let's see some real movement.

My vote goes to the candidate that is going to aggressively go after fixing the economy like the money is coming out of his pocket.

If Obama does lose, will we have the usual thing happen when something does not go the way the African-Americans want it to, riots, burning of their own neighbors etc. that we have all seen over the years? Hope not, but if all they are looking at is the color of a canidate's skin, they are as racist as the KKK.

All These happened during Obama's senator year in Illinois.

In Chicago Tribune, Saturday July 7-26-2008, there

is article titled " Illinois is 43rd in black male graduates".

"fewer than half black male students across the

country are graduating from high school, and the number

is even lower in Illinois and Chicago, according to national

study. ......graduation rates from the 2005-06 school year

and found that Illinois ranked 43rd out 50 states for the

number of black male students gradating that year. In the

city that year, only 37% of the `102,185 black students

    graduated...... ".

In Chicago Tribune 12-16-07, there is special report

about Illinois' poor: "Our Hidden Poor". There are about

1.5 million people in Illinois--- 12 % of the the state

population live below the poverty line.

Sen. Obama was a community organizer in a tiny black community
for 20 years in south of Chicago before he was elected as senator. I would
    like

you to ask him what he did to increase black male high

school graduation rate and decrease the poverty during

his Illinois senator year? How can American people trust

him when he did not change anything in his community

    and his state.

Also, as far as the mortgage/credit crisis...um did anyone really stop to get the facts straight, that under the Clinton admin was when they tried to make it so more people could qualify for all these defaulting loans. They claimed the big banks/lenders were being discriminitory agains people who made little money and they should so to speak bend the rules to let these people get home loans. Also another thing I am sick and tiered of hearing people blame Bush for is 9-11...all the planning, years and years of planning took place under the Clinton admin as well

hrtsgn11 your comment is so RACIST!!! It's disgusting...FYI you are the one ignorant because in less than 40 years "minorities" will be in majority in this country so no matter what you think someday one of them will become president!!

Why do they have to assimilate??? why can't they have they own langage??? and stop being so arrognat and stupid because a lot whites are on walfare and kill people too...and what does Obama has to do with some blacks being "thugs"??

Does the African American community really believe that having Barack Obama as President will solve their social problems? I'm an Asian, and although having someone of the same race as President would be a great role model, I do not believe that that person would be the savior of the Asian community. It seems to me that yes, race did play a role in this election. We shouldn't vote for someone just for their color but for their values.

GirlFromMD, use that same logic. Why have most blacks voted for the Democratic nominee-black or white..BECAUSE THEY ARE MOSTLY DEMOCRATS!. Now ask yourself this question..why are some white democrats not voting for Obama. BECAUSE THEY ARE RACISTS! Psue , this answers your question, too. The only democrats who are changing their usual methodology are WHITE RACIST DEMOCRATS. Blacks have always, overwhelmingly, voted for the democrats. It just so happens, this time he is black. Is that not clear to people?

The problem of course with equating Obama's potential loss to racism is that it is setting the country up to be divided regardless of who wins. There are, after all, two tickets here each with members of underrepresented groups; Obama's has a black man and McCain's has a woman. If you buy into the reasoning that if Obama loses it's because the country is racist then you also have to believe that if McCain loses it's because we're sexist. So either way apparently we're bigots. That does not sound to me like the unifying force Obama claims himself to be. Thus far I haven't heard anyone make the case that if Palin loses it's because America is sexist. Minority politics is a thing to be discarded not embraced. Unfortunately an Obama win or loss will only mean we hold onto it that much longer; because his camp has set it up that way.

Hello? We are not living in the 1960's! Black people in America are on equal footing, unfortunately they choose to keep themselves in a racist mind set. Honestly, Get over it! What I find the most distrubing is that the black community will flood to the polls voting strictly because of race- who are the biggots now? They are. And when they don't get their way... they will react in violence because that is all that they know. I am totally sick of the double standard in the black community. They don't know what they want and they change constantly. For example, God forbid anyone uses the "N" word, but they support this word amongst themselves. I have zero respect for this kind of double standard. The racism they experience is imagined in 2008....or more like an excuse for failure. Get over it!!

If anything wakes you up- compare Palin's Couric interview w/a Miss Teen U.S.A. beauty pageant contestant on youtube. I pray that those of all colors and stripes will rise up and vote Obama/Biden. It's not perfect, but it is the only hope for us.

Please God let Obama lose, and save this great nation

Being an African American, I think its great that the "LAND OF OPPORTUNITY" is slowly becoming that in every walk of life! However I just want people to vote for Obama for the mere fact that he is the better candidate! Forget his skin color. I hate the fact that its alway an issue and will be! McCain may be a great American but I think it could be argued that he is the worst Republican candidate in many years! He has had to work hard to get even his base behind him! This race for President is close for only one reason, "THE COLOR OF OBAMA's SKIN"! Sad but true! ONLY IN AMERICA!

  • Posted By: lcgscott @ 09/28/2008 1:30:42 PM

This article expresses what I hate about this election. I cannot vote on the very important issues facing us as a nation without considering the color of the presidential candidate. Something is very wrong when our presidential campaign has come down to an issue of color. Many of us, white and black, are guided by principles that override the race or religion or accent of the candidate. At least, I hope that's still the case. If not, then we really are in a crisis.

Newsweek should be ashamed to publish such biased nonsense. Please don't be distracted by the media's attempts to increase it's numbers. Educate yourself, vote your conscience and move forward. Win or Lose, on November 4th we will make history by having the most voters the country has ever seen taking part in a presidential election. Hopefully Obama will win but if he does not, we will all be better because he has energized the masses and gotten millions of everyday people (black, white and other) involved in the process. That is far better than what any other candidate has ever done. If more people had been interested in making a difference 8 years ago, Bush might not have had the opportunity to make the mess he has.

All of this racism on the part of blacks -- and it IS RACISM -- does not do their candidate any good. A lot of people don't want to vote for McCain because he has been a Republican for so long. But it speaks well for him, in my book, that a lot of Republicans don't like him, either. He's much more his own man than Barack Obama will ever be. You have a candidate who's been sitting in a black separatist church for the last t20 years, who is married to a woman with very strong racist views, a man who connects himself with a disgraced past CEO of Fannie Mae, just because he's black, too. And people expect WHAT kind of leadership from this guy???
Past behavior is a good indication of future behavior. Barry/now Barack Obama will continue to perform for the black community, and if I were black (or even half African American, as some here have pointed out) he is exactly the guy I would want in office, no matter what his past. Why? Because I know he would work for me, that is what he's done in the past as the Senator from Illinois, that will be his future behavior.

If I were a non-African American trying to decide if I should vote for him, it would be a toss-up: How much do I hate Bush and the whole Republican party? How much do I trust Barack Obama?

The vote will reflect how the undecideds answer those questions for themselves.
