Was Al Gore's loss in that presidential election any less painful and frustrating given he actually won the popular vote? I will be equally as disappointed & angry if Obama loses and I am a white women. Why does it have to be a race issue? When someone you place such high hopes looses, it is always devestating.

I agree with elfensnowdad that this article shows the african american community in a negative manner, almost threatening, if Obama loses, which is a great possibility racism or no. You can also look at it the other way, almost every african american is polled supporting Obama, and whites are split almost evenly between the two candidates. If that doesn't show that race plays a significant impact on how people vote I don't know what does. I personally am a 29 year old white middle class male that has been donating and supporting Obama's campaign, not because of his race, but because he is articulate and smart. Mccain is very simple minded just like Bush and is unable to see the big picture and I have no confidence in his ability to run something as large as the United States government. He seems to narrow minded and listening to him during the first debate made me sick, all he did was try to play on the emotions of the listeners with stories that he repeated through the debate. Palin is even worse, I am more qualified to be President than she is, she is not only inexperienced, but very ignorant.

8 More years of Republican rule will bring the Middle Class to it's knees. It will rapidly fade away, just like your freedoms. If you think that this bailout is bad, wait until the next one. Of course, that is after the burden of another war, this time in Iran. In my book, it is time to exit. The expat thing looks really enticing. We are at a major turning point in American history and all too many are asleep at the wheel. Greed and ego wil ruin us.

Rascism is not playing much if any factor in this election. Besides Obama is half black and white. If Obama loses this elction it will be due to the fact that he doesn't have enough experience. I am a Democrate, but having another president without experience scares me. Especially when you have countries that are rising up again and showing might. The bottom line is this, neither candidate can fix this economy... They both have agreed on this; open your ears!!!!!

lol, yep, if obama loses its rigged. what a joke. i am so tired of all the reverse racism out there. i am not prejudiced but i can see why people are. its not the color of their skin, but the agenda and ignorance of the group dynamic that makes people disregard the blacks. when people flock to some one who has no experience, 2 years in the US senate, it makes you wonder if they are only voting because he is black too. oh dont get me wrong, he is not really black. he doesnt identify with any black group per se. his house cost 4 million and he is a harvard law grad. so is president bush. see any problems here? if we run to our "messiah" based on what i have already said, then something is wrong. SERIOUSLY wrong. simply voting for one parties candidate or another isnt whats going to get things fixed anyways!!!!! THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED TO GET BACK TO AMERICAN VALUES! IT IS NOT THE PRESIDENTS JOB TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE JOBS. ITS HIS AND MOSTLY CONGRESS TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE OPPORTUNITY. AND THAT IS ONE THING YOU WILL NEVER HEAR ANY CANDIDATE SAY BECAUSE THEY ARE COURTING VOTERS WHO ARE POOR AND UNEDUCATED, OR EDUCATED AND STUPID. THEY WANT TO BLAME "THE MAN" WHEN THEY SHOULD LOOK AT THEMSELVES (GENERALY) DID BUSH MAKE PEOPLE SIGN THEIR NAMES TO ARM MORTGAGES? NO INCOME NO CREDIT HISTORY LOANS WERE A FAILURE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO NOT GET ROBBED AND HOODWINKED. THEY FAILED MISERABLY BECAUSE THEY WERE GREEDY. GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY.

I HOPE THE POOR RIOT ALL OVER WHEN OBAMA LOOSES. IM POOR BUT EDUCATED. I OWN TWO GUNS AND A LOT OF AMMO AND A HIGH POWER SCOPE. WE COULD USE LESS POOR AROUND HERE. I WILL PROTECT MY HOUSE AND FAMILY FROM THE HAVE -NOTS AND THE BLAME-EVERYONE-BUT-MYSELVES.

Make sure you stay away from the polls on Nov. 4th. We don't need gun toten idiots like you around. You go right ahead and barracade yourself right in your compound. Hopefully you'll accidentally backfire.

I feel offended and almost at a loss. I believe that the elections racial issues are overshadowing the bigger picture. We are at war. We have service members serving in harm???s way and dying every day. Radical Islam is knocking at our door. Our economy is getting ready to go into a depression due to our Countries abuse of credit and lack of spending discipline. The gap between rich and poor is growing. Our energy needs are irresponsible. We need to stop take and step back. The democratic process is a great system. But to make statements such as riot if Obama does not win is ludicrous. But I guess it shows the real side of what America may be coming. I know a good amount of men and women of all races that come together under a common goal every day, service to their nation. We get knocked down regularly from losses of fellow Soldiers, budget cuts, extended deployments, and yet we still get up every morning or at times work through the morning without sleep at all. Yet we maintain our professionalism. Is it too much to ask to get through this election without asking for us to mobilize to quell civil unrest because a select few decided that the democratic process didn't work in their favor due to the majority???s decision?

Those who think Palin is the totally unqualified to lead should remember another governor of who that was thought, and he became President.

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 1:28:45 PM

And look at the mess that former governor made of this nation! It's because of him we are where we are. He managed to take us to the brink of bankruptcy in just 8 short years.

"People that I know that have never cared about politics are registering to vote this time: gang members, ex-cons, you name it," says rapper Snoop Dogg. "I hate to see a lot of that hope go down the drain, and if he loses, it will." ... yea like I or most of Americans think what the criminals want should really matter... or the actor who said "My kids love Obama"... I'm so sure your KIDS pay real attention to the important issues going on in the world and evaluate the views of our presidential candidates.

  • Posted By: Graham13 @ 09/28/2008 1:28:32 PM

This should not be about race. What if I were to say that I was voting for McCain because I am white. That would make me A racist.

As I sit and read the article above, my heart gets saddened. I understand the the trial and tribulations that black people have had to endure through the years to get to be American citizens with all the rights of that citizenship. I want to bring you to a revelation that I pray will make it into the hearts of the readers of this comment. When the children of Isreal were slaves to a hard Egypt, God delivered them. But they could not free themselves from the memories of the past, and it cost them the future promised land and they never got to recieve it. God has delivered the black people from the bondage of the oppressors and has granted them every opportunity to make thier life into whatever they wish. Those who hold onto the anger and bitterness of the past will not be able to go into the future, because anger and bitterness poison the soul. Instead of focusing on education, building a better life, and making this world better, they focus on destructive attitudes and offeses that will close God given opportunities to better thier life. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of faith and as the scripture points out.... faith works by love. Talk of rioting if Obama doesn't win and the anger just goes to show the amount of emotional uncotrol that has plagued people lives and kept them from going forward. Until every person can look themselves in the mirror and said that they have done the best that they can do to make thier life better, you have no one to blame about the state of your life but you. After all, who's life are you living? Grow up, take responsibility for yourself and quit blamming everybody else for your downfalls. I had the same opportunity to an education that everyone else had. I did not take advantage of it. You may not have either. Barak Obama did, Colon Powel did, Condoleezza Rice did, and they all proved with out a doubt that the only thing holding you back is you.

This article is just crazy....talk about racism...seems like many African Americans are voting for Obama BECAUSE he is black...not because of his qualifications. I would hate to say I would only vote for a Caucasian just because I am white....everyone should vote for who they think will make the best President???.not vote for them because of the color of their skin, their age or gender.

  • Posted By: Whistlen @ 09/28/2008 1:27:30 PM

If Obama loses African-American people should be furious! Furious with themselves. They need to go out and vote. If enough African-American people vote then Obama will win. If they don't then they only have themselves to blame.

Please,Please,Please... WE and I repeat, WE, Whites, Blacks, Hispanics are facing the same pains, no jobs,no health insurance not because we are careless and do not want to, BUT because we can not afford the premiums, we are loosing our homes for the same reasons, we all have to get together and voice our position by voting for the BEST ONE that is willing to give it a chance and run for this position, this MAN regardless of RACE, is the ONE that UNDERSTAND the TRUE NEEDS of WE THE PEOPLE, and with the HELP OF GOD can try to LEAD the nation to correct all the mistakes made, this MAN is OBAMA.., he knows how it feels to survive in this ugly world where we attack each other instead of helping each other, he understood at a very young age HOW and WHAT he needed to do to be of SERVICE , I know he is not perfect, he does not have the experience that only is acquired with AGE, BUT he balances it out with the STRONG FAITH and DETERMINATION that he can HELP US have a better FUTURE if not for us, maybe for our childrens and grandchildrens, yes, maybe I'm dreaming, I'm a 57 year old hispanic woman, who raised my kids alone, and now for the grace of GOD, facing challenges with the family, CANCER, HANDICAP older relatives unable to take care of themselfs, and loosing everything material, because there is not work, no , I do not feel bad for loosing material things, but I do feel HORRIBLE for not been able to keep my WORD with respect to my responsabilities and looking around and finding out that the only ones GUILTY of this MESS are people given the power by a SIMPLE VOTE one day 8 LONG YEARS AGO>>>PLEASE< PLEASE GET EVERYONE OUT TO VOTE FOR THE ONLY CHOICE WE HAVE AND GET GOD ATTENTION BY DAILY PRAYERS...

Are black people that ignorant that they think they alone can elect Obama? Blacks make up only 13% of the population in the US. You all can get all your Bro's and sistas together to vote and you still wont make a difference without the sympathetic white mans vote. Do I have to remind you black folks that Barack Hussein Obama is not an "african american" and does not share in the "black american experience". He is of Kenyan Arabic descent on his fathers side and white on his mothers side. When Obama loses its going to be because he's a Marxist, not because he's black. It's very clear to me that the question is'nt, "is america ready for a black president'?...... the question is "are black people ready to do something for themselves and quit waiting for someone to give them more handouts." Until black people assimilate in to society and quit inventing new languages and traditions to differentiate themselves, they will never see the day when one of their own will lead this nation..........

The cloud of racism is still much out there and it has been reported by the media that some whites, quantity unknown, are not going to vote for a black for president, come hell or high water. I felt that priorities count and feel that women should be the first ones to break the ceiling, but blacks did vote more for racist purposes than with their gratitude to Bill Clinton, not foe nothing, named the first black president by the same black voters.
Of course, between a vote for McSame and Obama, Obama should be the choice, hands down, but, the eternal but, racism is in this country's DNA and I don't think that Obama can win this election and if gets to pull it from the hat, the republicans will pull a Bushie, the stealing th elections again, thanks to a partisan supreme farce.

I have read many of the comments on this blog by white Americans and it is appalling. It goes to show that a large portion of white Americans still believe in the negative stereotypes that is associated with black Americans before, during, and after slavery. One blogger talked about sending Mr. Obama back to his country. This is HIS country. These type of remarks that are being made would never be a point with two white candidates. The only one that is making this election racial are whites. Black people have been voting for white presidents ever since this country allowed them the right to vote. And even then, black people were still threatened and harassed to stop them from voting, and/or killed in retaliation for voting. These same white presidents that we black people put into office are the same ones that allowed segregation, illegal property seizures, lynchings, poor schooling, etc, etc, etc. If black people want to vote for Mr. Obama because he is black SO WHAT!!!. The only ones that are making this election about race, is the white race. The history of this country has been and always will be about two sides, black and white. When there are two white men running for office and black people decided to put all of their eggs into one candidate, as they always do, these types of discussions never take place. Mr. Obama has come a long way from the time of many of our black ancestors. His rise to this point of a major election is outstanding. The black community is proud of this fact and we are rejoicing, SO WHAT!! There are many, many, black people in this country who believe in hard work, self worth, and being independent NOT dependent. If that was not true, we wouldn't be talking about Barack Obama at all. I AM BLACK, I AM PROUD, I AM INDEPENDENT, AND AS AN INDEPENDENT BLACK AMERICAN, I VOTE OBAMA. SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We should think in terms of who is going to do the best things for all of Americans. Until that happens, we will never begin to strive as a nation of one. A major task is to get the owners of this country out of our political process, stop the lobbyist that are being paid by the super rich of this country from having influential access to our governing bodies. This whole election should open the eyes of the Poor Whites, the Middle Class and all Legal Minorities as to the realization of any election. The 15% of American that have all the money, have absolutely no thoughts about you or your family???s well being, they just want to keep getting richer.
Lastly, we must educate our selves to stop thinking in terms of race, color, religion, and anything else, other than what is best for all Americans and this great Country that we???re blessed to live in...

All we'll get with Mc Cain is another 4 more DANGEROUS years of the same, that's if he has does'nt die of old age in office. The you'll know another word for DANGEROUS and it'll be named after his running mate ! I don't know the name of her eye glasses ,but that seames to be Mc Cain's running mate. God Help us all if McCain wins. We May have a chance with out Mccain haveing family as the GOV. of the state they would need to win to head to the white house.

Great. Now the media is turning this into a false racial issue. When a black coach or black quarterback loses a football game, I guess we're supposed to believe that it was because he was black and that the system was set against him from the start. Please. Obama couldn't have made it this far without a large number of white voters turning out for him. If he fails, he fails on his policies and ideas. That's all. Leave race out of this. This country is ready for a black president, we're just not ready for socialism.

    • Posted By: RyanO1976 @ 09/28/2008 1:26:52 PM

He would have made it a lot further if so many racist white people weren't turning out to vote against him.

I am not voting for Obama and it has NOTHING to do with his color - It is because he supports killing babaies - Even babies that have survived an abortion....he still says "kill em anyway". I would NEVER vote for anyone with those beliefs - I don't care if he's the whitest of the white or the brownest of the brown. The blacks who are voting for Obama simply because he is black are doing exactly what Martin Luther King preached against! Jugde a person by the content of his character NOT by the color of his skin. Come on people, wake up and vote on the ISSUES not on COLOR! Don't you dare try to tell me I am predjudiced for not voting for Obaba. I vote by ISSUES! This is 2008 - get your heads out of your *****'s and THINK brfore you vote!!!!!!!!!!!!
