You listen to me now you Black Racist ... stop peddling your race based identity politics BS ok? Because remember if you can say because I'm white that Im a racist "devil" then you surely have no room to talk if I (or any "cracker") says because you are black you are (fill in the blank). So if a white person says you are a criminal who is under-qualified for a job and not worthy of a loan because you are black why are you complaining? Its ok to say an entire group of people can be characterized by their skin color! Get a life please.
You are all think that the President has absolute power! This is just not the case. While this may be the highest office in our country, go back to high school Government and you will see that we have other parts to the government for checks and balances. Bush did not create the mess we are in by himself. We have our representatives that we elected to thank for that. Just because McCain or Obama win, that will not entirely change the course of this country. They cannot make the changes alone. They need approval from Congress. Last time I checked, we had black Congressmen as well as white ones. No one should ever vote for someone based on color. That does not qualify a person. Frankly, look at your state representatives and that is where a lot of our current problems are coming from...
The President of the U.S. and the Congress do not and have not complimented each other for some time now. The Congress views issues brought to the table and will weed and muddle through the many propositions, but when it comes right down to it the President will either pass or veto.
Congress' duties and tasks have changed over the years and that is one of the problems with this present system. The President now reigns more powerful than ever. Read this amazing book, "It's as simple as it gets" authored by Bacevich (?) I cannot remember how his name is spelled, I lent the book to a friend. He is a retired, high ranked military man that lost his son to the Iraq war of the rich and famous (Bush and his cronies).
If only more readers would get educated before they vote, we may end up living in a better place!
take a basic economics class, find out what happens when things are handed to you instead of earning them we all lose in a socialist society which is where obama will take us closer to. typical harvard grad preying on the desperate minority. i hope all african americans know obama is counting on your desperation.
Now we are on the sexiest talk because Hillery isn't getting elected? ROFL
I challenge everyone to study the facts. We the people, even though according to some, are the ones who give or not give consent to our elected officials. Yes, every vote does count. The Challenge is to study History, history of our founding fathers, what the Real Dream of this nation , the Greatest nation in the World, what the real dream was for their children and their children s children. Life was First, not Abortion.

NOW THROW IN THE "BRADLEY EFFECT" AND McCAIN IS ACTUALLY AHEAD...BAD NEWS FOR OBAMA!
You will vote for the right candidate if you believe that he is the right candidate and not black or white. Please do not make this into a race issue, yes the color of the skin is black and white but voting for a president isn't. You vote for what you believe who is going to be the right candidate that will give us employments, keep our country and economy strong and who is not afraid to fight terrorism anywhere in the world. Please do not make this into a race issue. In election day, it is our right to vote and it is an honor to be able to vote. Thank you.
Ignorance and fear dominate these discussions. I suspect that a lack of education and the consumption of mass media substitute for an authentic worldview here. I'm a white male - blue collar, middle class and southern. I'm also educated, at least to the extent that I've been able. I don't fear Obamas' name, his mixed race, (we're all mixed race, fools!), his superior intellect, or his admirable accomplishments. He represents the best of America to me. The editorial focus of this article frames his candidacy in the narrow window of race, and drags the entire discussion into the mud of ignorance, fear and hate. In actual numbers, I'm sure that there are far more ignorant, hateful, racist whites than there are ignorant hateful and racist blacks. Keep the national discourse focused on race, and Obama will lose. Mr Samuels understands this, and has done his job well.
One or two generations of well-educated people may be the only hope the world has left. Obama would be an inspiration to that end. READ.
I'm Irish, when John Kennedy campaigned for President 99% of the Irish voted for him. His photograph was hung in the homes of nearly every Irish Catholic in Ireland too boot. If Obama wins, he will do exactly what all the presidents do, and that is to abide by the desires of the few people behind the scenes who really run our country.
I am a McCain supporter and in some respects wish Obama would win. It would compel blacks to abandom their victimology and pull themselves up as Obama did. Goodbye and good riddance to the Jesse Jackson's, goodbye to the Al Sharpton's, goodbye to African Americans; hello Americans just like me. If Obama should win I hope it spawns a whole new breed of black leader that promotes independence, self reliance and racial harmony.

I have mixed feelings re: your post. When you say "hello Americans just like me". Do you mean Americans who work towards and vote for a strong, diverse and well machined country, color and gender blind, with no need of Affirmative Action, because the countries mindset has become one where equal rights are automatic and checks and balances i.e. Jackson & Sharpton are not needed? Or, do you mean (and are you one) Americans that work towards and vote for a history lesson unlearned and to be repeated?
Yes, we (Americans) need to move on. We (Americans) need the opportunity to focus on the issues that has all but stripped the American Dream, sent our loved ones off to die, and has disrespected the 'bill-payers' of the United states, the Working Class.
I'm glad that you realize that a 'change' is needed, and hopefully the time is now.
I'M STARTING WITH THE MAN IN THE MIRROR. I'M ASKING HIM TO CHANGE HIS WAYS. NO MESSAGE COULD HAVE BEEN ANY CLEARER....IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AND MAKE THAT CHANGE !
OR, as Bruce Hornsby would put it: Don't YOU believe that SOME THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE.
What a beautiful way you put your words. Very articulate, and from the heart. Bless you. We need people like you.
yeh thats what I want, gang members and ex-cons choosing my next president solely on the basis of his skin color. People that have never taken an economics course or a government course and do not understand the first thing about how a country or an economy works. wake up people so guess your voting Obama because you support class warfare and socialism or do you just want a black president? be honest with yourselves now.
I have a B.A. in political science and an associates degree in economics. I'm voting for Obama because I don't want four more years of the what we've had the past eight years. Think about it: Are you better off now, are we as a nation better off now, than we were eight years ago? If you answered "yes" vote McSame. If not, there is only one clear choice.
If Obaman loses, every person who voted for him will get the opportunity to know what all of Hilary Clinton's supporters felt like when the DNP decided a black man was more important to give the votes to than a white woman ... when a woman becomes a leader of our country ... that will be saying something about America and its progress towards prejudice.
Obama will be elected by the White Vote. Without it, he has no hope. Therefore when he is elected, Black Americans need to shut up about racism. We are all sick of the constant mantra of "Oh I failed because of racism". Its nothing but scape goating. Mexicans suffer racism, Asians suffer from racism as do Africans (Black Amercans are NOT Africans)...yet these groups all do wonderfully - due to hard work and good values. The Black community as a whole, does a deplorable job of keeping families together -fatherless families are the norm for most black families. The prisons fill with the failure of Black fathers - if you do not stay around to support and raise your own chidlren, the streets will do it for you - and the result is our prisons are full of black men whose fathers walked out on them.
I am a 51 year old white male who owns a business and is a republican. I am voting for Obama not because he is black, but because he is well educated, thoughtful, brilliant, insightful and has good judgement. As for implied threat of riots and violence if Obama is not elected, Black Americans will lose even more credibility if such a thing occurs. You can't act like third-world savages and expeect to be treated with respect.
I work in black communities and for black organizations - and I have to say, black americans as a whole represent the most racist, bigoted segment of our population. When complaining of racism, they need to look at their own community.
If you are sure of your life in these United States play the role of responsible citizen no matter who is up for election - just do your part. Obama is not the great Black hope and neither was Lyndon Johnson when he oversaw and signed many civil rights bills into law. Obama is just another sincere civil servant who has turned to politics to live his passion - we all know that may or may not be successful but this is his attempt to do what he can given his talents. I would encourage others to look to themselves to do the same instead of looking to those they idolize/idealize. It is important to look within to find the hero within ourselves to determine what part we can play to assist our fellow man and ourselves in these perilous times. Cietta Tolbert
if everyone thinks about you will find thatONLY democrats and independents can be racist. think about it.
Obama has toooo much of a shady past and no experience. Why can we not learn how he paid for his college?Bill Ayers? The preachers who have damned America? this is not about race but honesty and experience. At first I actually liked him & the more I learned about him and Michelle..the scarier it got! God help us if he is elected. America will never be the same..It has nothing to do with his being Black. I was initally thrilled with him. Colin Powell..would make a great President, Rice would maken a great President..she is so qualified and that is what it is ALL about.......... Nothing to do with being Black..nothing!
X-Democrat voting MCain/Palin 08
onerdrfan made a good point in suggesting that blacks should vote based on specific and not color. However, I think most blacks are probably voting based on both reasons. Obama happens to be the same color as they are, which I'm sure creates some ethnic pride but he also identifies with their needs. He is for better education, better healthcare, more jobs in America, and many other issues in which the black community has been left out for far too long. He will do well for the black community, but in doing so he will also do well for the white community.
It's a shame this isn't discussed more. Everyone is afraid of "offending" blacks by telling the truth. They are being racists. It's no different than someone saying they are voting for McCain because he is white and there are people out there saying that. What is amazing is that people are using skin color as a criteria to elect some to run a country of 300 million people.
I resent Newsweek allowing racists to speak for "white people". They speak for themselves loud and clear..not for me.
the article is definitely askewed but, the what if is a serious qeustion . What if the police in la get off = riot. Fear of another riot = o.j. not found guilty, worrying about what if never leads to a positivr outcome and the question obviously goes both ways, to the caucasions if he wins will the market goe up for malt liqour, if he loses is Mcain going to be the final white nutbag to be in charge before the world blows up? If Obama wins, heres the the final injustice, nothing changes the prisidential position is that of a posterboy and the real power comes from congress which is full of caucasions. And my final point white, black, purple it really does not matter were all the same we all want the same things for our kids and family, and all want an opportunity for a good career. Regardless of who wins in the end our greatest fear should be nothing changes.
Your Comment: Regardless of who wins in the end our greatest fear should be nothing changes.
No, our grestest fear is that we change for the worse. Change is a double sided coin. One must be clear on the direction of the change.
We are not a socialist country and have no intentions of becoming one.
That is why so many, including myself, see Obama as a dangerous leader in his extreme left solidarity.
He would not be the first leader in history to rally the people on his rhetoric and charisma, but follow an alternative agenda.
One's past, especially recent past, defines their character as well as their philosophy.
Ayers, Wright, Obama divides based on racial and class lines. He pulls the race card and follows men who all have one common philosophy,,,,,, an agenda to destroy Amercia.
Obama = Dangerous
