how typical for a large portion of african americans, NOT ALL, and all others who love to blame everyone else for what they lack in their lives, this article dealt with not one single issue except that anyone with a record want's obama to be president because he's black and want's the U.S. to move more towards a socialist state where we hand feed people, drug dealers, welfare abusers and eveyone else who loves to sit on their ass. this country is losing it's identity from the inside out obama would be a massive step in the wrong direction. he's simply promising everything to everyone in a tough time for the U.S. and hopefully that won't work.

Comment: Polls have consistantly shown that whites are roughly equally devided between McCain and Obama

Polls consistantly demonstrate 95% of blacks support Obama

NOW TELL ME WHO THE RACISTS ARE !!!

Short, sweet, and absolutely true. Don't expect anyone to thank you for telling the truth, and fewer will address your point - why let facts get in the way of a good argument, right?

Maybe if Mccain was a Bill Clinton , the black votes would be different, but obviously Mccain is NO Bill Clinton, so its better for you to stop trying to spin the whole issue.Hell for that matter, 90% of southern whites are voting for Mccain, and your point is now???

for those African-American racists out there (yes, unfortunately they also exist)...rather than the win-lose question, the more salient question should be - did they think, that in their lifetime, they would ever see a Black/AA candidate running for president, representing either of the two major parties? His assention to this position is evidence of dramatic progress in American perceptions. There's no doubt that race will somewhat factor into the final decision, but Obama's candicy makes it easier for the next minority contender. Why not focus on the positive developments, instead of dreading the potential negative results.

Really simplistic view article. Kind of offensive too. Seems like you are just creating and fanning the flames of the stereotypes asociated with "the black man," as president. I am fifties, white, business owner, empty nester, looking towards retirement. Not exactly the polls demographic for a Obama Supporter. No tax benefits for me with either of them. And regardless of what McCain says, they are BOTH going to need to come up with TAX DOLLARS to bail us out of the Bush Borrow and Spend practices of the last 8 years. I am tired of the lies from anyone that says that they will not raise, much less reduce taxes, AND balance the budget. I cannot even imagine the embarassment and pain of another 4 years of a couple of Bush clones. I made my decision for Barack last winter and everything that has been said and done in the last 6 months has done nothing but reinforce that position. Time for integrity, honesty, openness, and transparency. Time for Obama / Biden.

The public is making this all about race. Obama may be black on the outside, but I bet if you looked on the inside he'd look the same as McCain. The black community is voting strictly because he is black, not because of his political views. If he loses then they want to riot and protest?? I understand they want someone to represent them in the office, but my god, you have to look at the bigger picture. I personally don't care about the color of our president, so long as he does his job accordingly. I believe Obama is fit to run this country, but that isn't the main issue with everyone. They're focusing on his skin. I'd rather see Obama win the election as opposed to McCain. Everyone needs to shift from the ethnicity of the candidates to their political views. This has basically come down to black versus white. When will it ever end. And yes, I am a white male. I will never let the color of a man's skin determine my decisions.

At this time, we do not need to be so singular driven when it comes to issues. Since Reagan, the political machines have done so much to polarize the American people. . . Republican vs. Democrat, liberal vs. conservative, environmentalist vs. industrialist, black vs. white, rich vs. poor, etc. We need someone who can pull from both sides of the imaginary divide created in our political psyche. My motivation in this election is to find the person who can get things done not based on his political party, but on his ability to make things happen. McCain has done that through the course of his career. Obama has earned my respect over the course of his campaign, but that is not enough. He does not have the ability to pull together both sides. He does not have the experience to make those things happen. In eight years, he'll have that experience, and I truly wish he would have waited to run so that he can prove to me that he is not just a product of the political machine, much the same as Hilary Clinton, who is not nearly as worthy of the Democrat nomination as Obama is. Now is the time for McCain. He's got the experience, he's got the moxy, he's a war hero, and he's proven himself over time. People say they want change, and they'll get it with either candidate, but McCain has the ability to get those things done. I've been saying for eight years that McCain should've been our President. I think we would be in a different place right now. Obama's election will further polarize the nation, and he will not be able to push his agenda because Republicans will not accept his plans. Congressional Democrats have proven over the last 20-plus years that they will side with John McCain. We won't get that with Obama. He's a good man and I think he has the ability to accomplish a lot, but now is not his time. It's time for McCain.

You just gave the real, honest and concerned american another boost. Sending out a message of fear like this just made me want to pound the pavement more for Obama. Thank you newsweek. Obama/Biden For Hope & Change 2008!!!

This is idiotic! I'm a white woman and you couldn't keep me away from the polls and voting for Obama. It's this kind of article that hardens the right and swings the swing voter away from him. Newsweek, you should be ashamed of yourself!! You are a magazine I admire, but now YOU"RE playing the race card. Obama should win because he's the best candidate...period!

Im sorry but this is just stupid. What kind of elementry school playground attitude is this? Let me have my way or I'll be really pissed and protest. Well anyone can protest anything they dam well want to, this is the USA after all. I have to agree though the black community needs to grow up. There may still be some racism in the world, but enough already. There will always be blacks who hate whites, whites who hate blacks, mexicans who hate whites, blacks or both, women who feel men are given advantages over them. The world is not perfect and never will be.

I'm a white male and I hope Obama wins, not because hes black, but because I like his stance on issues. If he doesnt win, oh well. Everyone in the country will throw out their votes and the majority will win. Thats the way its been, thats the way it will always be. People are gonna lose a lot of respect for the black community if they go crybaby if Obama loses. Lets hope they use their common sense because acting like a bunch of children will only set them back farther.

When McCain wins it will be just that--Winning, not stealing the campaign from anyone. And when the black people start rioting in the street and looting from the very town they live in and acting like animals it will be very evident that if a black person doesn't get their way then they throw a fit. Grow up black people----Vote on the issues not the color. And as someone else stated it brings me great comfort to know that ex-cons, people that don't have an address and gangsters want to vote--yes the pillars of society. Do the gangsters think that Obama will support their illegal gang activity just because they are the same race? Or that he will grant people less time in prison because he is black too? Then why are they so worried about voting this time around? Vote McCain, he has experience and knowledge.

Absolutely disgusting! Typical Republican prejudices. It is people like you that make me work harder in cleaning up the mess of the present administration and I will be damned if I am going to go through another 8 years of me, me, me politics.
Remember, the Constitution reads without racism, "WE the people..."
I will pray you will see the light before you pull the curtain and vote!!!

    • Posted By: OK Red ST go BLUE @ 09/28/2008 12:10:47 PM

Thank you. As a white, middle-aged woman, with a college degree find these these posts extremely racist, especially those from the white sect. We can choose to walk blindly into another 4-8 years of white supremacy abuse of power and unethical acts or we can choose to move ahead and clean up the mess Republican fat-cat bureaucrats have got us in.
Upon doing my homework I find Obama to be the only candidate that harbors integrity, respect, and genuine concern for all people. If anyone would bother to look up his past you'll see since he was a young man he had dreams and hopes of having all people learn to live together and to embrace diversity and inclusiveness.
Hands down, he comes with credentials I admire; more so than the likes of those that lie and abuse power, such as McC and Palin.
Wake up people...times running out. Think & vote with your conscious, not for the party! Obama 2008!

If the black community is voting for Obama for only one reason that he is black, that would be a sad day in America. Some have never voted before so now they will only for the color of ones skin. Martin Luther King Jr. must be rolling over in his grave. MLK talked of judging one not by the color of ones skin but by ones character! Take the time to investigate the nominees before you vote!

"Comment: Here's a bit of shocking history...for those who are racist.....read it and learn....
    African-American Presidents"
Then obviously America isn't racist now is it?

  • Posted By: robbopaloobop @ 09/28/2008 12:41:33 PM

Hmmm.... from reading this article, one gets the feeling that Obama's skin color is the only thing black voters seem to care about (the fact that Obama is half-white and was raised by two white women hardly ever seems to be mentioned - by the media or the candidate himself).
As a result, instead of celebrating the sucess of his candidacy (and yes, Virginia, there would not be an Obama candidacy without the support of many white voters) one gets the feeling that the black community has started to turn this contest into an entitlement issue - like Affirmative Action - where the candidate's ability to handle our nation's problems is subordinate to a perceived need to have a president with black skin tone......or else.

As long as you are a United States Citizen, over the age of 18, have never been convicted of a felony (or if you have, you have had your voting rights restored) and you meet the residency requirements of the state you live in to be considered a resident of that state, you can vote. Period. Show up naked and you can vote. You may get arrested for indecent exposure and taken to jail, but dress, cornrolls, eyeglasses, shoes or barefeet are not things that can keep you from being eligible to vote.

So vote. And if you get to do it twice, think nothing of it.

<for Obama to > lose will be just shady and a slap in black people's faces." Now who's being racist. Obama is a politician---a highly financed politician--nothing more nothing less. Here the color os green!!

Why don't "blacks" ever mention Obama's "white" side---remember his mother?? Oh but that would not be political adventageous. Obama has no connection to working class people--who come in all colors--people living in poverty--and they come in all colors---he's monied elite--how many of you can aford to send youir kids to Harvard??

Soounds to me like the "blacks" are threating to pull a "Rodney King riot" if Obama doesn't win. That's recism at it's worst.

Get a grip people---drop the raceism and become AN AMERICAN--and yes we All come form somewhere else---even those who call themselves "native"

Like one poster said--there is a "LOSER every 4 years" and the paper ballots are white with black ink.

Its funny some of you who say you will vote for mccain are so attracted to articles like these.Furthermore, some of the white folks need to stop putting "ALL" black people in one jar by saying "ALL" black people blame white folks. I certainly will say that i don NOT beleive Mccain has the best interest of "EVERYBODY " in mind , in most certainly has not been a Maverick when it comes to campaigning for the Black vote. So he wont have any excuse but to blame his own campaign when it comes to numbers of the black vote.
